Chapter 49: Done before they even begin?
Three days later
July 4th
Later that evening
Two days after Billy and Juliet met they couldn't stop hanging out with one another, they would think after that first evening of them talking the night away, they wouldn't have anything left to say, but that wasn't the case.
In fact, there were times when it was silent between them, but they still felt comfortable around one another, which was big to him, mostly because he knew his parents could be the same way at times. Then another big moment that was special to him was when she joined him and his siblings for ice cream and was really engaged in whatever they were talking about, like she was hearing the greatest thing in the world, which in those moments, when he saw that she genuinely cared about what they were saying, was when he undoubtedly knew that this was something that could be really special.
He loved his family, and there was no denying that his younger siblings was his world, he would do anything for them, so whoever he was involved with who couldn't see that some of his time was always going to be reserved for them, no matter what else was going on in his life, then he honestly couldn't be in a relationship with them, which was another thing that kept him single most of the time because the women he was seeing before couldn't understand that they were important to him too.
Then just when that special feeling was building even more, the third day everything came to a holt for him, because no matter how much he tried, he couldn't get a hold of her, not even through her sister or Thomas.
But then like a miracle, later that night while everybody was at the beach setting up for the firework show, Billy saw her as he was taking a walk on the beach, so he sped up and said her name when he got closer.
Juliet just placed her blanket down when she heard his voice, then she picked up her blanket before turning around, but before she could walk away, he grabbed her arm lightly and spoke while trying to catch his breath. "Wait, please."
Juliet shook her head and removed her arm from his hand. "I'm sorry I can't."
After taking a few more breaths, he spoke as she started to walk away again. "Why, what's wrong? What did I do?"
Hearing his tone, made her stop and she shook her head again. "Everything."
"Juliet..."
She cuts him off as she turned to him, trying to hold on to her emotions as she confessed. "You made me fall for you."
He started to smile with his heart racing as he asked. "Isn't that a good thing?"
She shook her head one more time with tears in her eyes. "No, not like this, not right now, not when things are complicated."
When she looked down, he lifted her chin up before cupping her cheek. "I know that what you're feeling right now is scary, I feel it too, but for the first time, in a long time, this feels right to me, and I'm not ready to let it go. We can make this work."
"And you don't think I've heard that line before?"
He knew about the last boyfriend she had, which was a very significant one, and how he broke her heart when she caught him cheating on her the first college school break they had.
"He was an idiot. He couldn't see what an amazing woman you are." She was about to speak, but he continued softly. "I wish I can take away the pain that he inflicted on you, but I can't. I can only promise that I would never hurt you intentionally, and I know those are just words, but please give me a chance, give us a chance, don't let him win by closing off that beautiful heart of yours."
A part of her, the hurt part wanted to just turn, run away and try and forget Billy Arthur Grissom ever came into her life, but she knew that was never going to happen, he was a part of her now, he was in her thoughts, her dreams and in her heart.
She mentally shook her head and sniffled. "This is crazy, I just met you three days ago, but it feels like..."
He cuts her off with a tender look, feeling the same. "I've known you my whole life."
She nodded before whispering, the wall she's been building was slowly crashing down. "Can you hold me?"
He removed his hand from her cheek and wrapped his arms around her before bringing her closer to him, and while in his arms, the fireworks started going off, so they didn't move an inch as they watched the show.
Once the firework show ended, it was decided that the Holland and Grissom 'kids' would go over to the Caine household for a sleepover to give Sara and Grissom some alone time, and same with Scott and Kelly, but before Sara and Grissom headed for their hotel room, they took their evening walk along the shoreline, and as they were looking out at the darken horizon and hearing the waves, Grissom spoke softly. "Well, I know this isn't the beach we practically grew up on..."
Sara then cuts him off with a smile. "But this place is just as special, maybe even more so, considering what happened the first time we were here."
He then smirked. "Why do you think I suggested this place?"
She looked at husband with a raised eyebrow. "Oh, you think you're going to get lucky, huh?"
He smirked again. "Well, I will say my success rate is quite high. You won't get any complaints out of me."
She chuckled while lightly hitting him in the arm, then while he still had that smirk/sparkle in his eyes, she asked. "Ok, what's going on?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean, you have that 'I have something up my sleeve' look."
"Really?" After she nodded with a smile, he continued. "And you think you know all my looks?"
She chuckled as she moved so she was standing in front of him. "Oh babe, I've known all your looks since I was nine years old." He raised an eyebrow, causing her to smile wider as she cupped his cheek before whispering. "And I will say some of those looks had turned dangerous through the years, in the best possible way, I might add."
Seeing the route she was taking, he whispered, his tone had a little passion on it. "Oh?"
She nodded as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "They make my heart race, my skin tingle, my..."
He cuts her off with a kiss that was turning passionate almost instantly, so they pulled back breathlessly, then he whispered. "I say we take this back to our hotel room."
She nodded, and after a soft kiss, they headed for the vehicle as quickly as possible so they could get to the hotel as quickly as possible.
Once Billy and Juliet arrived at the beach house that Juliet was staying in with her sister, which was currently empty, she asked as they stood at the front door. "Do you want to come in?" She then shyly smiled. "I mean just to sleep, I..."
He cuts her off as he took her hand. "I would love to."
She nodded, and took a deep breath as she turned to the door so she could unlock it, then after stepping into the house, she asked if he wanted anything to drink and he asked for water, so she grabbed two waters from the fridge before both of them walked upstairs and into the room she was staying in.
She grabs her sleeping clothes and heads towards the bathroom while he takes his shoes and socks off before laying in bed, now normally he would sleep in just his boxers, but didn't want to make her uncomfortable.
When she came back into the room, they shyly looked at one another as she got closer to the bed, and after a brief hesitation, she got under the covers and moved to lay her head on his chest, and once he placed his arm over her shoulders, they no longer felt shy, it felt right to be laying like this and he kissed her head before whispering. "This is nice."
She nodded with a smile. "It is, it's the best feeling I had in a long time."
"For me too."
They laid there in silence until they fell asleep with smiles on their faces.
After Sara and Grissom made it to their hotel room, but before she could open the door, he wrapped his arms around her from behind and whispered. "Close your eyes, please?"
She did what he asked before he opened the door, then after guiding her in far enough so the door could shut behind them, he whispered again. "Now open them."
When she did, she gasped at the sight of candles around the room, then she turned around with tears in her eyes. "I knew you had something up your sleeve."
He smiled warmly before cupping her cheek and speaking softly. "Twenty seven years ago for the first time we shared something beautiful together, and while our experience is greater than it was that night, that feeling that I felt that is still there, it has never wavered, and after all of this time, it never will."
When their lips touched this time there was nothing stopping them from progressing, and before they knew it, they were on the bed, him above her as they were kissing each other passionately, then when he moved his lips over her cheeks before kissing her neck, she spoke breathlessly as she slid her hands up and down his back. "God, why do you always have to be right? This does still feel like our first time."
He smiled against her skin before moving his lips up to her ear. "And I really hope you're not complaining about that part."
She wrapped her leg around his waist with a smile of her own before his lips went back down to her neck then collarbone. "Hell no."
After a few moments and another round of passionate kissing, she whispered. "But you know what's different than our first night?"
Feeling breathless as he pulled back so he could look down into her eyes, he asked. "What?"
She smiled before surprising him when she pinned him down so his back was now against the mattress. "I have more confidence in taking control."
He chuckled, and once he got over the shock, he cupped her cheek and brings her down. "Which you know I have no problem with that." Her smile was cut off when her lips touched his, not that she was complaining.
Eventually they moved so they were sitting up with her in his lap, and after another round of passionate kissing, he pulled his head back as he held her close to him, then cupped her cheek and whispered with emotion. "And you want to know what's not different from our first night?"
After a small peck, she whispered. "What?"
"I still find you the most beautiful woman in the universe. In fact, you've only gotten more beautiful."
Once again her smile gets cut off, then she gasped in surprise as he moved them so her back was against the mattress again, he smirked at her once she calmed down from the shock before she cupped his cheek with a smile and brings him down whispering. "I love you."
"And I love you."
Next Morning
Juliet woke up to an empty bed, and after getting out of it, she headed downstairs and followed the wonderful scent to the kitchen, which she stopped in the door way to see Billy cooking away, and she couldn't help but think this scene looked nice and that she could get use to it.
She mentally shook her head a second later before clearing her throat and saying. "Hey, Good morning."
He jumped slightly causing her to give him an apologetic look when he had turned around, but he waved it off as he gave her one of his charming smiles. "Good morning to you too. I'm making pancakes, so I hope you're hungry."
She just gave him a nod while walking towards the kitchen counter barstool, sat down and watched his every move.
When he was done, which was minimal talking, but the air between them was calm, he sets her plate down in front of her, got the syrup once she told him where it was and set it in its place beside her.
After taking a few bites, in which she complemented the chef, she more or less picked at her food, and Billy noticed, so he asked with worry. "Hey if pancakes wasn't really what you want..."
She cuts him off with a sigh. "It isn't that, I just can't stop thinking about you lea..."
He cuts her off this time with a smile as he placed his hand on top of hers. "Then try to stop because, one, we still have a whole day together and I don't want either of us wasting time being spent thinking about that, and two, this isn't goodbye, ok, this is just see you later until next time, because I promise you, this is not the end, we are just beginning, we'll just have to figure it out." He then slipped his fingers through his as he spoke softly. "I want to figure this out."
Juliet took a moment, feeling the warmness from his hand before looking into his soft blue eyes, that was making her heart race and melt at the same time before she nodded. "I do too."
He then smiled with his eyes sparkling. "Ok then, why don't we finish breakfast, then if you don't mind getting ready for a beach day."
She raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
He nodded with a smile again. "Yeah, it's beach day with my family."
While they were releasing hands, she gasped with wide-eyes. "Billy, I don't want to ruin your beach day with your family, like you just said it's your last full day here, it should be spent between you and your family."
He shook his head before trying to reassure her. "You won't, they'll understand." She was about to speak again, but he continued walking around the counter so he could be closer and cup her cheek. "Hey, if we're really serious about this, then I want all of us to spend time together. I want you to get use to them and vise versa, you spending time together with them, not only with my siblings, is very important to me."
She nodded as she placed her hand on top of his that was on her cheek as she replied sincerely. "I understand that, and I never want to make you feel you have to split your time up between me and your family, it's just, isn't it too soon for all of that?"
He smiled as he finished. "We are not in normal circumstances right now."
She nodded with a slight smile. "I guess you have a point there."
And when he still saw a little worry in her eyes, he reassured her. "Besides, I can tell they already like you."
"Yeah, but that was when I was a potential friend at the very least, now I'm the..."
She trailed off, and he smirked that 'Grissom' smirk with that raised eyebrow. "The Girlfriend?"
She then shyly smiled. "Too soon?"
He chuckled as he took her hand and helped her up before wrapping both arms around her waist. "No, certain things I don't mind speeding up, and calling you my girlfriend, if it's ok with you, is something I don't want to hide."
"I don't want to hide that title either."
They were practically beaming when he nodded. "Good."
They held one another a few more minutes before parting so they could finish their breakfast, then she got ready and they left the house so he could go to the hotel and change before they met the Grissom family at the beach.
(45 minutes after meeting his family on the beach)
While Juliet was hanging out with Faith and Even, trying to build a sandcastle, Billy was moving towards the ice cooler, which was close to his parents, so he could get some water for Juliet and his siblings.
After he got the waters, he asked. "So, what do you think?"
Sara spoke first. "You know when we discussed you have a relationship like me and you father, I didn't mean for you to follow exactly in our footsteps when it came to the long distance thing."
Billy nodded in agreement. "Me neither, and I certainly wasn't looking for one like that, but the minute I saw and met her..."
Grissom finished his son's sentence in a knowing/understanding tone. "Everything changed."
Billy nodded again with a bright smile. "It did, and while being apart will suck, it will just make the reunions and being together all that more special." Sara and Grissom looked at one another as he said that, knowing how true that was, then when they looked at Billy again, he continued. "And I truly want to make this work because I know when we can really be together, without the time we have to spend apart, will be worth it. This is what I want, she's who I want to be with."
Seeing the look on his face earlier and in this moment, both of them believed that this one was truly his 'one', so they nodded with smiles before Sara spoke as she cupped her son's cheek. "Ok."
Billy raised an eyebrow as he replied. "Ok? That's it?"
They chuckled before Grissom asked. "What else do you want us to say?"
He chuckled while shrugging his shoulders. "I don't know, I thought parents could be a little disapproving on their kids' relationships at times."
Both of them shook their heads before Sara spoke again. "Not this time, we really like her."
As Grissom nodded, Billy smirked. "And does this have anything to do with her transferring to Harvard in the fall for her last two years of college? Or that she wants to be a CSI once she gets her degree?"
They chuckled while shaking their heads, then Grissom spoke as he moves his head towards the younger Grissoms and Juliet. "It's because she cares about your family, your siblings." He then looked at his son. "And I see the way she looks at you, there is something deep there."
Billy smiled with his eyes sparkling. "Thank you."
Sara removed her hand from her son's cheek as she spoke softly. "We know it's a repetitive thing to say, but it's the truth, we just want you to be happy."
Billy nodded with one more smile, and after he hugged them both, he started walking towards his siblings and girlfriend while Sara and Grissom watched him before looking at one another, then he cupped her cheek and asked with a comforting tone. "You ok?"
Both of them felt very confident that Juliet was who they were going to officially 'lose' their son to, and while it was sad thinking it like that, there was also so much to gain, specifically seeing their son, yes, so happy and in love, which Sara wanted all of that and more for him, so was she ok?
She nodded with a smile. "Yeah, I am. I mean look at that? Isn't that what we've always wanted for him."
They looked at the loving interaction between them, then laughed as they started chasing Faith and Even, tickling and laughing when they got a hold of them before they went back to their partially made sandcastle.
The couple looked at one another again, and Grissom nodded. "Yeah it is."
She cupped his cheek this time as she whispered. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For bringing us here, unknowingly changing our son's life."
Yeah, there was no doubt there will be rough moments, but like Billy basically said, he was all in no matter what, and they'll support him on that.
He smiled as he wrapped his arms around his wife and brings her closer. "Well, my dear, I believe you started it, you're the one that suggested we go on a vacation."
"Yeah, but you picked the place."
He sighed in content. "Because it was special to me, to us."
They looked over at their smiling oldest son as he looked at the woman who already stole his heart, and Sara smiled. "Now, it's a special place to him."
