Jack knew he had left it there, he had only answered the door and come back and… where the hell was it?
Jack lifted the magazine on the coffee table to look at where he had last seen it…maybe… then he walked in a slow circle as he tried to remember if he might have placed to elsewhere. He was wracking his brain, "BABE? HAVE YOU SEEN MY WALLET?"
Ianto yelled back with annoyance "USE THE FECKIN INTERCOM!"
"WHY YOU JUST HEARD ME!"
Ianto lowered his book to roar back, and then he had a thought "Jack? Call the bank and put a pause on the credit cards."
"What?"
"Your wallet is gone, remember when Babs was little and you lost your credit card?"
"Fuck" Jack struggled from the chair he had flopped in to call the bank, relieved to hear the cards had not been used and as he asked for a 24 hour hold on them while he 'checked the vehicles' Ianto calmly went upstairs and opened the door to Hawk's room, finding the boy in there with the wallet examining Jack's licence with open intrigue.
"Hawk. Thievery is not very becoming a super hero" Ianto scolded.
"Borrowed. He left it on the stairs so… fair game" Hawk said as he held out the driver's license "Why does he get this photo thing?"
"It's a license so it the police stop and ask for ID he hands it over. It tells who he is, where he comes from and that he is legally allowed to drive" Ianto explained, settling on the bed next to the child and taking the license from his fingers "See? Birth date… here is our address on it… that is the date of issue and that is when he renews it. That there is the license number. Everyone gets their own."
"I want mine to be 007Hawkeye."
"You don't get to choose" Ianto was amused now as he saw the child was only playing. "The government issues it."
"Why not? This is our land, don't we have our own?" the child asked "Should have our own passports too."
Ianto sat back and considered "tell you what. Go talk to aunty Tosh, maybe she can make you one for the village. Maybe you are right, the villagers get their own special pass or something."
The little boy headed off on a mission and Ianto picked up the wallet with a smile, seeing that he had gained a little breathing room until the child tired of this latest thing.
"Did you find it? Hawk right?" Jack asked.
"Yes… your license intrigued him. He is going to sort out a village one so everyone has ID" Ianto said as he handed back the wallet.
"That's dangerous, giving him the power over that" Jack said with horror.
"Well, at least he's entertained. Getting harder, I cannot wait for school to be ALLLL day!" Ianto settled back at his desk and Jack stood in the doorway watching him with a soft frown.
Then he went after his child to see what idea he had.
Ianto was right… this one needed stimulation.
