I DREAM OF RAINBOWS

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

The awesome and talented dowlingnana searched out my errors and corrected them.

The guard escorted Edward back to his cell block, and Edward was feeling more assured of the outcome of things than what he had before meeting Mr. Winston and Jenks.

CHAPTER 49: MOVING TOWARD THE END

Edward was feeling pretty confident that his time in the Seattle jail was going to be a very short lived one. He didn't really have anything that he had had to pack up to bring with him from L. A. to Seattle, but he did want to get settled during this little time that he realistically knew that he would be residing there in his current abode.

After that Edward wanted to find out the procedure for using the phone in the community area so he could see about getting word to his family of the fact that he had been transferred from the L. A. jail to the one in Seattle. He knew that they would worry if he all of a sudden dropped completely out of sight like they did before finding out that he had been arrested and was in jail.

Another thing that Edward was beginning to realize was that if he didn't get control of his tongue and temper then he was going have made matters a hell of a lot worse for himself. No matter his social standing, the cops weren't giving him any special consideration.

"Come on, Dad, time is getting short. We've got to leave now." Bella was yelling at Charlie since they had a little drive to be able to get to SeaTac on time to meet the older Cullen's.

She wasn't sure of the attitude that Carlisle and Esme would have towards her and her dad considering what was going on with one of their sons. However, she knew that it was the right thing to do to meet the couple once they landed in Seattle. After all, they all would be working together to get this entire shit storm fixed before it did any great harm to the reputation of the Cullen family or their business. And Bella definitely didn't want that type of publicity that could be attached to her name.

Taking Charlie with her, she felt that it would be a good move since it gave each side, Charlie's and theirs, a chance to express the different opinions. It also gave Bella the chance to let Carlisle and Esme know that she had no prior knowledge of any charges being leveled against Edward until her agent told her about the police investigation. It would give her the chance to explain, personally, that was when she went to her dad to demand some answers as to why all of this was happening.

Bella wanted everything to be fully disclosed so no one could claim foul play and couldn't be hit with any more surprises.

Alice was able to let everyone, Rosalie, Emmett and Jasper, know what Bella was planning to do by meeting Carlisle and Esme at SeaTac. Also, that Bella was going to have her dad with her to meet the older Cullen's.

"I don't know that that particular move is a wise one." Jasper remarked once Alice had told him about Bella's plan.

"Why? I think that it's a damn good move because it'll give Uncle Charlie a chance to explain, personally, why he did what he did. It takes all of the blame off of Bella who happens to be totally innocent in this whole matter." Alice told him.

"Aren't you afraid that your uncle meeting my parents is going to make everything worse?" Jasper asked with some hesitation sounding in his voice. He wasn't comfortable with what Alice had just told him and afraid that in the long run, all of the hard work that he, Emmett and the rest of the staff had put into getting this project off the ground, would be for nothing. All because Edward couldn't stop his ego from leading him around by the nose.

"Jasper, you might not be happy about what Bella is planning to do, but at least, she's trying to help get everything out in the open so all of this can be brought to a conclusion.

"And, hopefully, that conclusion won't result in your brother ending up doing some jail time any more than what he's doing now." Alice couldn't resist remarking.

She could understand why Jasper was fearful of what Bella was wanting to do, but that didn't mean that Bella was wrong in doing it. After all, that might be the pathway to getting Edward to change some of his ways and definitely get the whole project back on an even footing once more.

Rosalie and Emmett had remained silent during the short conversation that was taking place between Alice and Jasper. Everyone had met at Rosalie's after Jasper had finished at the office and Emmett had dropped off Carlisle and Esme at LAX.

But, after Alice had finished her last statement to Jasper, Rosalie had to offer her agreement to what Alice had said. "I seriously think that Bella has a good idea with meeting your parents with Uncle Charlie in tow.

"I mean, so far all of this has been nothing but hearsay from what we've learnt and then passed on to Carlisle and Esme. However, this way everything will make more sense coming from the person that started this mess in the first place.

"Uncle Charlie will be able to tell them exactly why he felt he needed to take the action that he did and then be able to answer any of their questions. Really, don't you think that your parents have a lot of questions that no one other than Uncle Charlie can answer for them?"

Giving it some thought both Emmett and Jasper had to agree that what Alice and Rosalie had said did make a lot of sense; especially the way Rosalie had explained it.

"Do you think this will really work?" Emmett asked Rosalie.

"Yeah, I do." She answered immediately.

"You guys have to understand that Bella is really wanting to get this all done and over so we can move on to the more important things. At least that's the way she's seeing it." Alice commented.

"From what she has told Alice and me, Bella was blindsided by all of this, but as she has told us several times, she is quite capable of handling the likes of Edward Cullen." Rosalie couldn't resist saying before adding, "And believe me when I say that both Alice and I have seen her do it, even all through our school years."

"I remember the first day that Ms. Swan…." Jasper paused in what he was about to say as he saw the frown that suddenly appeared on the faces of Alice and Rosalie. "Okay, Isabella, is that any better?" He asked only to received deeper frowns from the two ladies. "All right, Bella. As I started to say, I remember the first day that Bella met Edward and my parents at the office. She managed to give Edward a good smack that day and stood her ground without giving an inch.

"Edward isn't used to a woman responding to him in that manner, quite the opposite, and it made him more determined to bring her around to his way of thinking; if you know what I mean." Jasper couldn't resist laughing at the vision he was describing of that meeting.

Everyone else couldn't help laughing after Jasper had finished telling them all that had happened. And that led to Emmett asking, "It was right after all of that that I came into the office. Right?"

"Correct."

"Damn, I missed a good show." Emmett couldn't help commenting with a chuckle. "It would have been a sight to see baby brother defied by a stunning looking woman. One that didn't willingly fall apart just by him smiling at her."

"That you did; that you did." Was the only answer that Jasper gave.

After that everyone moved on to other subjects and plan making of what they wanted to do and how they might be able to help resolve the issues that existed between Bella and Edward once he was released from the Seattle jail.

"Bella, you really think that it's a good idea for me to be here? What if they take exception to my presence and get all huffy?" Charlie moaned as he and Bella were walking through the airport to wait for Carlisle and Esme Cullen to disembark off of their plane.

"Dad, I really do think that Carlisle and Esme would definitely appreciate the fact that we're both here to meet them. We'll help them get to their hotel, to get settled and then have time to sit down with them for long overdue conversation about how we can get this whole damn mess finished.

"Also, I think they would really appreciate hearing from you about why you thought taking the actions that you did in the first place were necessary. And you can damn well bet that they will have some questions to ask you that only you can answer." Bella took the time to answer Charlie as they were patiently waiting for the older Cullen's to appear.

During the flight to Seattle, neither Carlisle nor Esme did much discussing of the purpose for their trip. Both were having a hard time understanding everything that was happening to Edward.

"My dear, why don't you go arrange for a rental for us to use while we're in Seattle and I'll take care of getting our luggage." Carlisle suggested to his wife.

So, the couple were prepared to go their separate ways, temporarily, until Esme happened to spot Isabella Swan standing with an older man and looking as if she were on the lookout for someone. She pointed this out to Carlisle and the couple started in that direction about the same time that Bella spotted them as well.

Holding her hand up and giving a wave, Bella grabbed a hold of Charlie's arm and began pulling him along with her as she headed in the direction of the Cullen's. Regardless of how all of this might play out, Charlie had no choice, but to follow through with what his daughter wanted to do. He still felt in his gut that this was a wrong move at this time.

Bella gave both Carlisle and Esme a hug and then introduced Charlie to them.

"So, this is the individual that started all of this mess where my son is concerned." Esme couldn't help commenting her immediate thoughts aloud.

Before Charlie could formulate an answer, Bella answered for him by replying, "I'm afraid so, but he feels that he had good reasons for doing so. That's why, when I heard that you were coming to Seattle, that I felt it would be a good idea for all of us to get together to allow him to explain his actions and it would give you a chance to get answers to any questions that you might have." Bella explained.

Carlisle and Esme were agreeable to Bella's reasoning, but asked why meet them at the airport instead of waiting until the couple had checked into their hotel in Seattle. And Bella explained that she thought that she and Charlie could give them a lift to their hotel where they could rent a vehicle for their duration in Seattle and then everyone could have lunch to discuss everything.

"No, we couldn't put you to that kind of trouble." Esme immediately responded, but Charlie was quick to reassure her that it wasn't any trouble whatsoever. "It would be our pleasure." He added while delivering a slight bow at the waist which produced a slight giggle from Esme and a small snicker from Carlisle.

"Well, if it won't be too much trouble, we'll be happy to take you up on your offer." Carlisle spoke before his wife could refuse once more. Having someone that knew the area would be helpful in saving time as he wanted to get busy on getting to the jail to see Edward and to getting an attorney hired to handle his son's case. And he was curious to learn more about Charlie Swan and what made him tick.

It didn't take long to get the luggage and for everyone to get started for Seattle. Then once at the hotel, Carlisle and Esme quickly checked into the hotel and made arrangements for a car rental and for their bags to be taken on up to their room.

After that, the two couples had lunch in the hotel restaurant and quietly began the discussion of why Charlie had taken the actions that he had. Once he had finished with his explanation, the Cullen's quickly began asking their questions for some clarification into some of Charlie's reasoning.

All in all, it was a very informative meeting. Carlisle and Esme, both, agreed that what Charlie had done, although inconvenient for their family, were actions that they might have taken under similar circumstances. They could understand the demands of Charlie having to do his duty as a police officer and then the feeling of needing to protect his offspring within the means that were available to him.

Edward was anxious to get a hold of his parents to let them know where he was as he dialed the number the phone did nothing but ring once it connected. No one answered and he began to worry about what was happening at home. He knew for certain that if anyone were at home, they would have answered the phone.

He decided that everyone might be at the office taking carry of business considering the time of the day, so he would try later in the day.

Time did pass and it was near three in the afternoon when Edward was informed that he had visitors. He assumed that it was either his attorney or Mr. Winston, so you can imagine his surprise when it turned out to be Carlisle and Esme.

"Mom! Dad! How did you know? When did you get here?" Edward kept asking question after question without realizing that he wasn't giving them a chance to answer his questions.

Finally, after Edward had taken a pause to draw breath, Carlisle was quick to answer, "We went to visit you at the jail in L. A. and were informed about you being transferred to Seattle. Didn't take us long to get here.

"Ms. Swan and her father, Charlie Swan, met your mom and me at the airport and drove us back into Seattle. It gave us a chance to have a good discussion with Chief Swan about why he made the decisions that he did, and I must say that I would have done the same thing if it had been me under the circumstances that he had.

"But enough of that for now, our main concern now is to get you an attorney and see about getting all of this handled."

And that was when Edward told his parents that Mr. Winston had gotten an attorney for him and the man had already met with Edward. "And the man seems to be quite capable of doing his job. For what I've been able to find out, he is one of the best in Seattle."

This information surprised Carlisle and Esme.

A/N: Okay, Edward is now in Seattle and has met with his attorney. Then to his surprise, his parents arrived unexpectedly. Carlisle and Esme had a chance to have a talk with Charlie and understood why Charlie did what he did. Didn't make them happy, but they understood it. When is everyone going to meet Mr. Winston and Edward have his day before the judge?

Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from you.
