'Sup guys, it's me the guy-who-probably-should-be-iconic-for-coming-up-with-the-most-stupid-names-but-somehow-isn't here and I'm back with another chapter!
But before I let you jump into that, we - and by that I mean 'I' - have some comments to answer!:
Notasavior - My thoughts exactly! Because breathing is important and stuff. For me too of course. I mean, it should be obvious for I am not a lizard of any kind. Nope. Just your typical mammal. Yup. Nothing to see here ;D
RandomReader867 - What happens in the hot springs stays in the hot springs xD Also, 341805 had me laughing at the start, comedy gold.
CarEnthusiast - Now that you say it out loud, quite a lot happened last chapter, huh? Welp, this time much doesn't happen I assure you! I hope I'm right now xD
OOF - ... This is the big one that I wanted very badly to answer, although I don't think if answering it has any sense to it, since I'm almost sure that this mans is not coming back here. I'm just gonna rumble so feel free to skip straight into the chapter. Now, this story has been started 2.5 YEARS ago and it has had quite a hiatus at one point where I decided to stop writing for some time. Now I know you haven't checked the rest of the story, and that's fine. I myself usually skip interesting stories if they are written with poor grammar and stuff, I acknowledge that. Even now, looking back at the first chapter I cringe with every line that I read, noticing all the mistakes I have made all those years ago. But, the reason why I haven't turned back to rewrite the pre-hiatus chapter is simple - I want this story to be a proof of my growth and improvement as an amateur writer. I want people to notice how I changed from someone who didn't know shit about writing, life and everything really into someone that knows very little about these things, but at least knows SOMETHING now. But I admit, it may not be a correct course of action... as such I've decided to try and rewrite the first chapter and I'll post it side by side, as in the same chapter with the original to try and show that I'm not terrible, but just bad enough to be bearable.
Now that my soul has been shown to you for umpteenth time, let's jump into today's chapter, huh?:
The long soak in Pussycats' hot springs was even more refreshing than they expected, all the tiredness of their journey through the forest gone and their aches relieved. After that, all the students went to bed to get in the mandatory eight hours of sleep.
Their plans were foiled however, when Pixie jumped straight into the boys' sleeping quarters, armed with two frying pans and started banging the utensils together, while Mandalay went to wake up the girls in a slightly less intense manner.
Needless to say, most of the guys fell out of their bunk beds and some of them even crashed on top of each other, creating chaos wherever you looked. There were also a few unfortunate enough to be sleeping on the lower bunk and instead of rolling to the side like the rest, their response was to rapidly sit straight up.
Yup, some of them were already nursing quite the sizable bruise and the training hadn't even started.
But, even in all of that commotion, one thing caught everyone's attention. The steady, but slightly strained, breathing of someone exercising.
The boys, plus Pixie, looked towards the last bunk in the shack. The person exercising, to no one's surprise, was Midoriya, who rolled out of his bed and started doing push ups. But that was kind of expected of him, at least by his classmates from 1-A.
But even they were surprised by the fact that Todoroki, who was sleeping above their resident green-bean, was now splayed on said greenhead's back, acting as weights for the exercising teen.
The whole shack erupted with laughter from most of the occupants or chuckles from the more quiet students.
After the comic relief that was waking up, everyone gathered outside for a roll call of sorts.
It would've been a fairly normal thing to do, if it wasn't still dark outside!
"Why'd you wake us up so early?!", lamented Kaminari, who was massaging his bruised forehead.
"The earlier we start, the more training we can squeeze in!", Ragdoll happily explained as most of the students groaned, some not awake enough to react at all.
There were no more questions/complaints, so Mandalay took the lead and started explaining in more depth the goal of their Summer Camp.
At school, they focused on technique and theoretical knowledge, whereas here they would use that to hone and strengthen their Quirks. Power and Control were the main things for them to improve during their stay.
The students, more awake than before, nodded to show that they understood their goal and Mandalay started assigning exercises.
Some were quite simple, like Iida's who had to just run laps around the entire training area at full sprint to work on his stamina and max speed or Kirishima and Tetsutetsu who had to take turns beating each other up to strengthen their respective hardening Quirks.
Others required a bit more thought, like Bakugo who had to hover and do all sorts of aerial acrobatics while propelling himself with explosions or Yaoyorozu who had to constantly eat and mass produce matryoshka dolls of herself.
There was also a small group that went with Tiger, who was supposed to spar with them and oversee their bouts.
The group consisted of Midoriya, Kendo, Ojiro, Kamakiri and Shishida.
Tiger led them to a more secluded clearing with a circular area marked by a white outline acting as an arena.
"You five are best suited for hand-to-hand combat as your Quirks don't give you any easily discernible ranged capabilities", the cat-themed Hero started. "From what I've seen of you so far, all of you incorporate your Quirks to suit your fighting styles, like Ojiro using his tail to strike someone while getting ready to deliver a roundhouse kick. Or Kamakiri using his blades to extend his reach. But none of you seem to do the other way around, so that's what we're going to focus on for now"
"What do you mean by 'the other way around' sir?", Jurota asked the question that was on everybody's mind.
"All of you use your Quirks in combat when you have a good chance to do so. But today you have to get out of your way to use them not only when it's convenient, but every time you can do so. Change your fighting styles to maximize your Quirk usage!"
With the aim of their exercise now clear, everyone was eager to get started as soon as possible. They would take turns sparring with each other, whilst the others observed.
First bout was between Kamakiri and Shishida. Both their Quirks were pretty powerful and with Jurota transforming into a beatman at the start of the fight, Kamakiri was eventually outperformed by his fellow classman and had to surrender under Gevaudan's onslaught.
Ojiro seemed to be quite impressed by Shishida's skill and asked for a spar with the beastman. The gentleman agreed to go for two rounds in a row as the previous fight hadn't tired him out as much thanks to his Quirk.
The second bout was much more even, with Ojiro using his tail and martial arts mastery to outmaneuver the beast, but not without slipping a few times and being painfully reminded of his enhanced strength. In the end however, Mashirao managed to jump over an overhead blow and used Shishida's head as a springboard to jump even higher and start somersaulting in the air to bring his tail onto Jurota's back with enough power to drive the man into the ground.
Tiger ended the fight right there and ordered the two teens to get some rest now. "We can't have you dropping dead at the start of the day now, can we?", he said with a laugh.
This meant that it was time for Midoriya and Kendo to test their mettle against each other. They both shared a look of determination as they stepped into the arena.
The two dropped into their prefered fighting stances and waited for Tiger to start their bout.
With a shout coming from him the fight started, but the participants didn't move.
Instead they stood there, measuring each other as they held an impromptu staring contest. They both knew that their opponents were more than capable in a fight and one mistake could spell disaster for the course of the spar.
And as such they observed each other, looking for a sign of the other making a move, but nothing happened. Kendo saw the tension in Midoriya's legs, reading it as an incoming rush.
Her assumption was confirmed when the teen suddenly appeared in the middle of the circle, his right foot planted firmly on the ground and his left arm cocked back.
The redhead once again tried to imagine what his next move would be and prepared to intercept his straight punch and then slam him into the ground using his own momentum.
He was within her reach and her hands were already tightening slowly to grasp his strike, when he suddenly disappeared. A second later she felt pressure on her gut as air escaped her lungs.
Turns out she was wrong this time. Instead of punching like she thought, he dropped into a roll on his last step and not only did he tackle her, but - in a stunning show of agility - managed to roll them over and throw her as he ended up in a standing position once again.
Kendo almost panicked but managed to keep her cool despite being winded and caught off guard and used her hand to stop herself from leaving the circle.
"Nice save Kendo!", Tiger commanded her and then turned towards her sparring partner. "Good tactic Midoriya, but you didn't use your Quirk at all, do keep in mind the goal of this exercise!"
"Oh, right", the greenette mumbled to himself as he looked at his left arm, before calling on his Quirk for a moment, sparks enveloping his hand as he did so. "I do have a Quirk, still forgetting about it", the boy chuckled to himself which proved to be a mistake, since when he opened his eyes, Kendo was already in front of him, an expanding fist flying towards his gut.
Midoriya tried to mitigate as much damage as possible with a hastily put up guard as he shifted gears all the way to four, groaning lightly at the sudden surge and then louder when Kendo's fist broke right through his weakened guard and into his stomach.
The blow sent him tumbling back, but he managed not to fall to the ground as he did a roll and ended it on one knee, panting slightly and trying to catch some air.
"I advise to direct your focus to your opponent's moves and not her curves", Nana sassed in his mind.
"I thought that you went on vacation with how long I haven't heard from you", Midoriya said back as he stood back up.
Kendo was again already on him and he had to dodge to the side to avoid her massive swipes. Her giant hands were her strength, but also her weakness, because the added weight meant that she couldn't move as easily.
She must've realized that too, because her hands soon returned back to normal and she started chasing him around the ring. Although she tried, there was nothing she could do against his augmented speed, so he jumped from fourth to the third one, relieving some of the stress from his body as he thought of his next move.
His opponent however wasn't going to let him have his way all the time as she used her Quirk to quickly gain ground on him when he wasn't expecting, forcing him to always be on his toes.
"Nice thinking Kendo! Midoriya, if I don't see you use your Quirk in the next five minutes you'll lose!", Tiger barked, clearly displeased with the boy's performance.
"You try utilizing a Quirk that you've had for six months on par with some who had years of training under his belt!", he wanted to scream at the Pro, but that would just be making excuses. And Midoriya really disliked doing so. "I guess it's time to go Plus Ultra once again!"
He suddenly dug his right leg into the ground instead of dodging back and used that to propel himself straight into an open Kendo, who had both enlarged hands behind her, trying to catch up to him.
This resulted in both of his heels digging right into her stomach, which sent her tumbling backwards and put them on opposing ends of the arena.
"Well, half of my plan worked so let's try to continue my good spree!", the teen thought to himself as he cocked his left arm behind his back and lowered his entire body.
Midoriya called upon his Quirk once more, but this time he caught the feeling that appeared and spread it all over his left arm. The crackling of lightning could be heard as sparks started flying off of his limb.
The remaining students looked intrigued at the display, having not seen him use his Quirk in a fight at all.
Kendo managed to stand upright by the time the greenette had pulled off his move and they were once again staring at each other with determination on their faces.
They mirrored the poses with which they started and the waiting game began anew. This time it was way shorter however, as Midoriya propelled himself towards his opponent once more.
"This'll be your last move Kendo!", he yelled with a wide grin as he came closer and closer.
The orange haired girl tracked his every move and once again prepared to intercept his punch. She didn't let her guard down however and was keeping a close watch on his footwork to see if he was going for the same trick as earlier.
Time seemed to slow down as her left arm expanded and tightened around his right fist, her right arm quickly doing the same to his other fist and locking them together.
"Looks like I won!", she stated with a smile.
"I don't think so", came his calm reply as he smirked at her, making her feel some really confusing things before she felt his fists uncurl and press themselves to her hands. "Discharge"
All of her confusing feelings were replaced by pain as electricity surged from his left hand and went straight into his right one, following the route with the smallest amount of resistance. Which unfortunately turned out to be her body.
Kendo lost control over her Quirk and her hands went back to their normal size as her legs gave out and she started falling backwards.
She was however quickly jerked upwards as something gripped her wrists. Her eyes trailed up her arms and saw Midoriya slowing down her fall as he held her. He slowly laid her on the ground, before picking her up and carrying towards the nearest tree for her to get some rest.
She was vaguely aware of Tiger declaring Midoriya's victory, which meant defeat for her, but she didn't care. Right now, in Izuku's arms? She was as happy as she could be and no victory could topple that feeling. Ever.
As I said CarEnthusiast, not much action, just some fighting, fluff if you squint hard enough and that's that.
Now, I'm not good at dealing with emotions and stuff, so let me get something out of the way - Thank you. Yes, you and you and even you. Thank you for sticking with this story for this long, for getting me to 171 review, for hitting almost 450 favorites and even more follows. Thank you for all the views and just everything.
I'm not a great writer and not a big one by any means. I still read more than write, which probably won't change, but you are the ones that motivate me to keep writing and coming up with ideas to humour you and make you smile, chuckle or worry for the characters.
One last Thank you to all of you great people and we are done with the sappy shtick. I need a drink. And after that, it's time to get back to work.
That's all for today and I'll see you guys in the next chapter.
