Crosshairs struggles for the next four days dealing with Drift's nightmares. The two mechs struggle to support Jayce, and J.R. Crosshairs knows how much Drift wants to see Jamie, but he's terrified to leave Jayce alone as he's terrified to leave J.R. alone.
Crosshairs hates how Drift doesn't meditate like he usually would to deal with stress and change his mindset. The two mechs haven't even told Jayce, and J.R. Jamie is getting better.
Bumblebee and Hound can care for the girls this morning, though they can't get Crosshairs and Drift to go see Jamie; at least the mechs are taking a break.
Bulma knocks on the door at noon.
"Come with me," she insists, "the girls are occupied."
"That doesn't matter; they were watching T.V. when J.R...you know."
"Drug them?" Vegeta asks sarcastically.
"VEGETA!" Bulma yells.
"I'm joking, actually wouldn't it be good to let the girls see?"
Even though Vegeta suggests letting Jayce and J.R. see Jamie, Crosshairs and Drift still worry about why.
No, I can't let them see her dead. Drift worries.
"It's good news, I promise," Bulma assures the mechs, smiling.
Vegeta has Bulma leave so the two mechs can talk.
"She says good news, but I think we better see what she's talking about before letting Jayce and J.R. see Jamie," Crosshairs suggests.
Drift sits on the bed, staring at the floor, "she said good news; you know she wouldn't lie about that."
Crosshairs sits on the bed and side hugs Drift.
A few minutes pass before Bulma texts Crosshairs.
Bulma; do you want me to send a picture?
"This has to be really good news for Bulma to ask if we want a picture," Crosshairs tells Drift and takes his hand, "I think our little lady has made great improvements."
Drift nods, though he's still worried about what Bulma will tell them.
Crosshairs: Go ahead
Bulma sent an image.
Bulma: She's able to breathe on her own with 50% oxygen support via a venturi mask. This is often the first stage in recovery. Only once, after Vegeta's initial attempt to kill her, she had a setback requiring the ventilator again. You guys want the truth, but tests show this is unlikely to happen.
Crosshairs is happy seeing Drift smile, even though they were told a setback is still possible.
"Come on, let's go see her," Crosshairs suggests, "I think you need time alone with your girl."
"It's not alone if you're with me," Drift smiles.
"I'll only stay for a few minutes."
The two get ready and inform the others via text before leaving.
The two mechs didn't think Bulma would be holding Jamie while sitting on the bed.
"I know you've been waiting to hold her," she says, smiling.
"I..."
Seeing Jamie still on a few medications, the feeding tube, oxygen tube, Urinary catheter, and EEG wires worries him.
"It's ok; you just need to be careful," Bulma assures him.
Drift sits next to Bulma on the bed and takes his small girl from her.
"How long are you going to keep the test going?" Crosshairs asks.
"It's been the same since the day we did Vegeta's plan. I just keep the test running worried we won't catch an unwanted change," Bulma explains.
"I don't think he's leaving," Cade jokes, whispering.
"Nope," Crosshairs smiles as he takes a few pictures, "ok, Drift, I'll be back soon."
Crosshairs leaves, happy his friend is happy for once in a long time.
Crosshairs shows Bumblebee and Hound the pictures he took.
"Finally," Hound cheers, and Bumblebee smiles.
"We didn't talk about showing Jayce and J.R. I'll leave him alone for a while," Crosshairs explains before the three of them go to the girls' room.
"Where's Drift?" Jayce asks while trying not to cry.
Crosshairs picks her up and sits on the bed.
This isn't good; she's so unstable.
J.R. leaves the room and sits on the floor.
Bumblebee and Hound sit on either side of her. Both hating the mental toll this is taking on the two girls, Crosshairs and Drift, even with their help.
"I can't believe she still blames herself," J.R. says in a sad tone, "so now, when Drift isn't around. He's back at the junkyard..."
J.R. couldn't finish before she cries.
Bumblebee moves her onto his lap and hugs her close.
Damn it, I hate how we do not know what Crosshairs and Drift are deciding around telling Jayce and J.R. about Jamie.
"Shh, it's ok," Crosshairs tries to assure Jayce, hating how much she's crying.
It's like she's making up for the time she was relaxed while drugged. Crosshairs sighs, dreading he's going to decide without Drift, but he's certain Drift would agree now they can finally tell Jayce and J.R. about Jamie.
"Jayce, look at me," Crosshairs instructs while lifting her head up, "look, this is from twenty minutes ago."
He shows her the picture on his phone. She takes his phone and stares at it as Crosshairs rubs her back. Jayce quickly calms down, but tears still roll down her face. Jayce knows this is good but also knows Jamie still has a little way to go. She still wants to be in Drift's arms, but happy he's holding his girl.
Crosshairs moves to lie on the bed with Jayce, knowing by now she's looking to take a nap.
Twenty minutes pass before Joyce is asleep. Crosshairs isn't surprised J.R. is also asleep, but he regrets not deciding to let Bee and Hound tell J.R. the good news. Hound tells Crosshairs he can go back to Drift and Jamie.
"You need a break," he argues.
Crosshairs didn't think he'd find Drift lying in bed, or he'd be asleep while still holding Jamie.
"He's exhausted," Bulma says in a sad tone, "which means you are; go recharge, and I'm not suggesting."
"You're not getting a turn for a while," Cade laughs.
Crosshairs smiles as he takes a couple of pictures before returning to his bipedal mode to get a little recharge.
Crosshairs could only recharge for three hours, knowing how much of a challenge the two girls can be. He left Drift alone, knowing Bee and Hound would help him.
Drift didn't want to leave Jamie. The fear she could still decline and become critical is still on his mind, but Bulma needed to take care of Jamie, and he knew Jayce would be a challenge.
"I showed Jayce the good news, but she's still distraught," Crosshairs explains as the two mechs watch the two girls watch T.V., "I can't get her to eat."
"Damn, she's going to need more time to recover mentally."
"J.R. is doing better, but still, both of them need to recover mentally from this."
The two mechs join the girls watching T.V., waiting for the opportunity to talk to them about Jamie's recovery even though Jayce already knows. Drift hates the way Jayce is hugging him as she sits in his lap.
She's happy I was with Jamie, but I know she needed comfort. She still feels bad she couldn't take care of Jamie. Damn, I'm not sure if I can help her with this. Drift worries.
