The next day, Eames woke feeling absolutely miserable. The cost of drinking vodka straight from the bottle at 34 and the broken heart of betrayal. She was lethargic. Her energy seemed to be siphoned from her body. Her hair was in a chaotic disarray as she was sprawled using the whole bed and completely covered in blankets despite a small piece of the top of her head. She looked at the offending object, her phone ringing bellowing from her sleep. Who would call me at this time? 5:00 in the morning. Of course. She saw the name on the display and tossed it back on the nightstand. Nope. She forced her body to move and she quickly dressed in some flexible workout clothes, tied her sneakers, picked up her hair in a ponytail, and grabbed her headphones. She would not entertain any thoughts of Goren today. She willed her mind to behave and closed the door behind her. She took to her favorite city route and ran, pushing her achy muscles to work like a tinman without oil. The pain was a distraction and the endorphins would come in time to ease any minor aches.
She ran dodging pedestrians and vehicles alike. The obstactles provided an extra workout on their own. She probably shouldn't be running after drinking so much but it was the thing she could control right now so she was not about to stop. Her legs had a mind of their own pushing harder on the concrete than normally she would go. She was lost in her thoughts and felt her legs feel as though they would give out but they didn't. It was like they were on autopilot. They moved on their own accord. She was grateful for her highly supportive running shoes. She felt like she was gonna hurl after the "second lap" but she fought the urge focusing on her muscles and the wind smacking her in the face. Her chest heaved as she tried to adjust her breathing.
She didn't know what to say to him that she hadn't said already. She bore her soul and her anger at him to the point where she felt completely empty and exhausted. But she wasn't. Empty that is. She was still angry whenever she thought about the whole scenario but tried to keep herself occupied because she was not ready to address the whole host of problems that had the big Robert Goren name on them. She was most definitely not ready to let him off the hook. Now, if he could take the hint and stop calling and texting her, that would help her tremendously. She cursed herself silently at getting involved with him. It hurt. It hurt that she was fighting with him professionally and also personally. He had begun to occupy so much of her time and energy that she was struggling to detangle him from herself. She knew that when she returned to work, she would have to find a way to find her identity again, away from Goren and she would.
When she returned home, she was sweaty and sore and wanted to feel nothing but the pressure of her shower head and the relief of water washing across her body. She was also extremely dehydrated and could not get enough of her water. She chugged it down like she was stuck on a dry desert for days and could not help but remember Goren's time after Tate's when he drank lots of water due to memories of dehydration. She would wipe his forehead with a cold cloth to remove the clammy sweat from his nightmares and then follow up with a glass of water. He always wanted water after his nightmares.
She did not expect the run to magically solve her problems but it served its purpose in distracting her, temporarily. Goren always had a way of sneaking in her thoughts. She stripped and entered her shower moaning as the hot water ran across her achy muscles and washed away the sweat sticking to her body. If only her problems were small enough that a run and shower could solve them.
Eames wasn't giving up. She vowed no alcohol, detox shakes instead, to rid her body of toxins. A focused body means a focused mind, she told herself. She would get herself back on track. Tomorrow, she would go to the shooting range to unleash some of the rage she felt. Tonight, she would rest and will her fatigued body to erase all thoughts and mental pain from her body.
