Happy Sunday everyone! Sorry I'm updating later than usual, I've been in kind of a bleh mood. Hopefully you had a great week. If not, hopefully this makes it better!
Chapter Fifty
Fucking Tanya. I should've known she was up to something. She was a manipulative bitch. And if our families weren't such good friends, I would've blown her brains out. I planned on getting her back in some way, but I needed to focus on fixing things with Bella.
I stared at the bakery, praying she'd come out. If she would just talk to me, I could explain everything. I thought back to Tanya bombarding me in my office.
I couldn't help but countdown the minutes until Bella's doctor appointment. She had told me she was seriously considering keeping the baby, which made me happiest man on earth. Everything was happening a bit sooner then I expected, but, as my mother said, everything happens for a reason.
As I was getting ready to go pick up Bella from the bakery, Lauren told me that there was someone here to see me. To my surprise, Tanya walked in.
I couldn't help putting my guard up when Tanya came around. I mean, she has been a lot better lately, and she seemed to even be happy about my relationship with Bella.
"Hey, Tanya," I said, "What's up?"
She smiled at me, "I just wanted to talk to you. Do you have a minute?"
"Um, yeah," I told her, checking my watch, "But I only have a few minutes."
"It won't take long."
She moved around the desk and got closer to me. I reared back in my chair slightly, moving away from her.
"What's up Tanya?" I asked.
"This is so hard for me to say," She said as she looked at the wall, "I'm just going to say it. I've noticed that you and Bella really aren't right together."
My upper lip curled, "Tanya, I want you to leave."
"Please just hear me out," She said, "Bella is such a sweet girl. And I just don't think she'd be able to keep up with your needs."
I stood, "Get out. Now. Get your stuff from my house and leave."
She chuckled, as if she found it amusing, "Oh come on. I've noticed how you've been looking at me. You want me."
"I do not," I snapped, "Now get out."
She shoved me back into my chair, surprising me, then ripped open her coat. She was completely naked underneath. I turned my head away, but that gave her the opportunity to jumped into my lap.
As I was trying to get her off of me, my office door opened. I felt as though I was being punished for something. Bella was standing in the doorway, her eyes wide and filled with tears. Just as I was shoving Tanya off of me, Bella ran out of the door.
I chased after her, hoping to catch her before she ran into the bakery and locked herself up.
But she was quick. She was already through the bakery doors as I had gotten onto the street.
And ever since then, she'd been ignoring me. She ignored all of my text messages and my calls. I knew she was upset. There was a camera set up in the room she slept in and she cried all night. I wanted nothing more than to hold her and make all of her pain go away.
Fucking Tanya. She had caused all of this. And my stupid ass was the one who allowed her to infiltrate our home and our relationship. It was all my fault. I should've known better. She did nothing but cause trouble.
I had called Eleazar and told him that I wanted Tanya out of New York today. He was very apologetic and understanding. He promised he'd get her away from New York and keep her away.
I lit a cigarette, trying to calm myself. My hands were shaking now. I could usually control it better, but the thought of losing Bella was almost too much to bear.
I was beginning to lose hope, but then my beautiful angel walked out of the bakery. I jumped out of the car and reached out for her. She stepped away from my touch.
"I will go to lunch with you," She said coldly.
I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat as I opened the door for her.
"How are you feeling?" I asked after a long while of silence.
"How do you think?" She said emotionlessly as she stared out the window.
The restaurant was close to Bloor street. I was glad, the silence was terrifying.
I pulled her chair out for her. She looked like she'd rather be anywhere else but here. I sat across from her and gulped down the water in front of me.
"So," She said with a shrug of her shoulders, "Talk."
"Bella," I started with a deep breath, "I swear to god it's not what you think."
She snorted, "Yeah, they always say that."
"Bella I swear to you it's all a misunderstanding," I said, "Tanya is a fucking troublemaker. She just—,"
"Are you fucking her?" She demanded. Her use of the word fuck threw me off for a second. Bella rarely used that word.
"No, I swear to you I'm not doing anything with her." I said, "Please Bella, you have to believe me."
She bit her lip, looking towards another table. Tears fell down from her eyes. I gripped the table, wanting nothing more than to pull her into my arms.
"Bella, please," I begged, "Tell me what I can do to prove to you that I've never, would never, cheat on you. I love you so much."
She shook her head and put it in her hands. People were looking at us now, but I ignored them. My only focus was Bella.
"Bella I love you more than anything in this world. In this universe. I would give up everything I had for you. I would give it all away."
She took in a deep breath, wiping the tears away from her face. She finally looked up at me.
"You sent me your phone records. Why?"
"Because I wanted to show you everything I'm doing and everyone I'm talking too."
"Tell me what happened." She asked after taking a sip of her water.
"Alright," I said, "So, I was getting ready to leave to meet you for the doctor's appointment and Tanya showed up unexpectedly. She walked in and started telling me how she didn't think you and I were a good match. I told her to get the fuck out. I was about to just leave, then she pushed me down into the chair and ripped off her jacket and jumped onto me. I was shoving her off of me, then you walked in. I swear to god, that's the truth."
She nodded and let out a tired chuckle, "You know, it's funny, I've been going over it in my head and it didn't make any sense. You knew we were going to lunch and to the doctor. Plus, I'm right across the street. And then Tanya came in today and now after hearing your story, I know it's all a lie."
A hard knot formed in my stomach, "Bella I swear to you I'm not—."
She put a hand up, stopping me, "When she came in today, she told me that you two had been sleeping together for a while. If that were true, you would've been smarter about it. I know that you wouldn't be dumb enough to try to squeeze in a quickie so close to when we were meeting."
I sighed in relief, "So, you believe me?"
"Yeah," She said, "I mean, I think I do. I just have a gut feeling that you're telling me the truth."
I smiled, "Bella you don't know how much that means to me. I swear to you, I will make this up to you somehow—,"
"You need to do some things for me. If you want to make things better."
"Anything," I said, "I will do anything."
"First, I want you to cut off all contact with Tanya," She said.
"Already done." I nodded.
"I want her number blocked and deleted. Any email she has, I want it blocked and deleted. I don't want her anywhere near me or you. I don't want to ever see her again."
"Of course."
"And" She took a deep breath, "This is probably selfish, but I don't care. I don't want to see her at any of the parties your mother throws. I know it's unfair to ask that—,"
"It's already done." I said, "I was planning on telling my mother about the incident later today. She was worried about us."
"You told her?"
"I didn't tell her everything. But I didn't really have a choice. She came over and she was asking for you and I told her that you were staying at the bakery."
She nodded, "Edward, I'm not really all that hungry." She closed her menu.
"Neither am I. Do you want to get out of here?"
"Actually, I rescheduled my doctor's appointment for today. Do you want to come with me?"
I smiled and nodded, "Let's go."
I left a tip for the waiter even though we didn't eat anything. Bella allowed me to put my hand on her back as we walked out of the restaurant. I wanted to hold her and kiss her so badly. But I wasn't sure if she was ready for that.
The car ride was pretty silent, but she let me hold her hand the entire way. Even that little bit of physical contact made my day. I knew things were going to be tense for a while but holding her hand did make things better for me.
She also let me hold her hand when we walked into the doctor. Even though she was allowing all of this physical contact, I could tell she was still holding back. I understood though, I had fucked up and it hurt her. It would take a while to move passed this.
"Hello, Miss Swan," the chipper doctor said as she walked into the room, "I'm Doctor Clearwater, but you can call me Leah."
Bella smiled at her, "Nice to meet you. You can call me Bella."
"And is this the father?" Leah asked.
"Yes," I said as I shook her hand, "Edward Cullen."
"Nice to meet you," She smiled, "Alright Bella, just put your legs up here and we'll see what's going on. Dr. Fuller told me he was about a hundred percent sure you're pregnant."
Bella nodded and took a deep breath before closing her eyes. I watched her face as Leah did her thing. Bella winced a couple of times, but finally, settled into a more comfortable position.
"Let's see," The doctor said as she looked at the screen, "Okay, passing the cervix and… oh! There we go," She pointed at the flicking thing on the screen, "Right there. There's the baby."
I smiled as I looked at the screen. There was my baby. It looked nothing more than a bunch of shadows, but to me it was the best sight in the world. I looked over to see Bella's face; she was engrossed in the screen, watching the shadows move and flicker.
"How are you feeling?" I whispered to her.
She took a deep breath, "There's our baby."
I chuckled, "Yeah, it is." I reached over and grabbed her hand. She squeezed it and smiled.
"I'm going to take a couple pictures for you two," Leah said, "And we'll get you set up with the dos and don'ts of pregnancy."
"How far along am I?" Bella asked.
"About nine weeks." Leah said.
"Wow," I said, "Nine weeks?"
"Mm hmm," Leah said, "I'm assuming this is a surprise pregnancy?"
Bella and I nodded, "Oh yeah. A big surprise." Bella said.
"Well don't worry. We'll help you get everything squared away."
"Thank you." I said.
Leah helped Bella sit upright then gave her a bunch of pamphlets and set up the appointments. She also gave Bella the list of vitamins she needed to take from now on.
"I think it went great," I told Bella as we left the doctor's office.
"Yeah, it certainly was," She said.
"So, are you coming home tonight?" I asked her.
"I was planning on it," She said, "Is Tanya gone?"
"Yes, I threw her stuff out onto the sidewalk. It was gone when I got back."
She nodded, "Good."
Bella laid down the law. I mean, can anyone blame her though? I'd want to fist fight Tanya if this were real. Be sure to leave me a little review! The next update will be on Wednesday!
