Chapter 50: Palutena (Goddess of Light)

Palutena's Temple

The sky was a reddish-pink with the clouds giving off a golden yellow glow from the sunset. The structures of the area and the Temple have stood tall and are undamaged from all the universal chaos. But inside the Temple itself... sat a new ruler on the Throne. The Goddess of Darkness herself, Medusa. According to our sources at the Resistance Base, Medusa had taken Palutena's Throne hours after the Calamity attack. She knew that with the Goddess of Light and the two strongest Angels gone, she can rule the Temple and the rest of the world they live in without any consequences. Even with all the power she has, she knew that she couldn't rule this world alone. So she called upon her most notable members of the Underworld army: Twinbellows, Hewdraw, Thanatos, and Pandora(Amazon Form), to help her out in this world domination. To them, they are proud that she is ruling the world instead of Hades. To be honest... that is the only thing that they all can thank Pit for. If it wasn't for him, Hades would've made them his minions for all eternity.

But... that wasn't the only ally that Medusa has in her army. Days after her rule began, she met False Palutena for the first time; seeing her cause destruction and chaos to the world below her. At first, she thought that it was the real Palutena. But once when she saw what she was doing, she was very pleased and impressed. She instantly recruited her into her army, and made her into her Number 1 soldier; turning the world into a chaotic mess together. In reality, this made the other members of the army jealous; especially Pandora. Ever since Medusa made her join the army, she had felt like that she wasn't being appreciated for anything she does. She kept watching False Palutena getting all of Medusa's praise for everything she had done, and it has made her blood boil with anger and jealously. In secret; she, Thanatos, and Hewdraw, have made plans to take down False Palutena; but have failed in multiple attempts. Once when they heard that both Pit and Dark Pit were revived... they knew that they had to use both angels to their advantage. After making their new plan, they went outside with the rest of the army and looked out to the sky; ready for what is coming their way.

As they looked up, two slashes of light came through the sky and then made a circle; revealing the Smash symbol. Coming through the symbol was the ships of me and my team; quickly flying towards the Temple. "Here they come! Fire at will! Now!" said Thanatos. The monsters began their attacks on the Ships a few seconds later, and then the Ships began to attack back; destroying them in multiple numbers. "What!?" Thanatos yelled in shock. A few seconds later, both Pit and Dark Pit appeared from the clouds; fighting the Underworld army. Pit was wearing the Three Sacred Treasures, and Dark Pit was riding the Lightning Chariot; taking down their foes as a powerful duo. Hewdraw and Twinbellows went after them very quickly and attacked them. As they fought, me and the rest of the team appeared on the Temple grounds and began fighting the army. "Get them all!" yelled Pandora. "You heard her, everyone! Attack!" Hewdraw replied. After that, the battle for the Temple had begun.

Inside the Temple, Medusa and False Palutena were watching it all go down. "Heh, so those two angels have been brought back to life? No matter. They mean nothing to me. But as for this warrior... that must be the one you have been sensing for a while now, correct?" Medusa asked her ally. False Palutena blinked her eyes and nodded her head yes to her leader's response. Medusa smiled evilly at her and then looked back at me as I pushed through the army with ease. "...Kill her." she commanded. False Palutena nodded her head in understanding, and began making her way towards me.

Inside the Temple

The sounds of war echoed outside the Temple walls as False Palutena walked through the hall. She turned around and looked up at the statute of the Goddess of Light; staring at it blankly. She turned away, picked up her shield and staff, and began walking towards the exit. "Hey. Looking for me?" said a voice. She turned around and saw me appear from behind the statue in my Guardian form; staring her down. "Well. Here I am." I said. She blinked her eyes twice and then prepared herself for battle. My eyes and wings began to glow as I stared her down, and then we clashed. She fired a few Explosive Flames and Autoreticles at me, but I absorbed their energies and fired them back at her as Fire and Light energies. She tried to use Reflect Barrier on them, but the strength of my attacks broke the Barrier and her shield. Her eyes lit up brightly and she dashed towards me; hitting me with her staff. I shrugged it off and fought her up close. She countered some of my attacks, and then used other attacks that I haven't seen the real Palutena use in a long time.

I got away from her for a minute, and then used my Electric powers to bring forth a Lightning storm to strike her from above and bring her down. Once she was hit by the lightning bolt and began falling, I created a Ice Lance and threw it at her. Once she saw the Lance, she broke it with her staff and aimed it at me. My eyes lightly widened in shock to what she did, and then I saw the attack that she was about to do. "Her Final Smash..." I said to myself. She fired a black hole at me, and then flew far away from me to fire a Mega Laser at me. When I saw the hole get close, I quickly teleported away from it. The hole stopped where I once was and began to grow and absorb the Laser's energy. After they disappeared, she looked around the room; wondering where I was. A few seconds later, I appeared behind her and used my Space powers to bend the gravity around her; making her immobile. She turned her head and saw my glowing eyes looking at her. I then lifted my right hand and fired a Light Beam at her; taking her down for good.

I flew down to the ground and looked up at the statue; knowing how much Palutena means to this world and how she truly cares for it and its people. "I hope they find you soon, Lady Palutena. Your world needs you now... more than you ever know." I said to myself. "I know." replied a voice. I turned around and saw a familiar light begin to glow and restore everything in the room. I blinked my eyes once, lightly smiled, and saw the person for the first time. "Lady Palutena." I said. "Spirit. Thank you for coming here. If it wasn't for you and everyone else... this world would've truly fallen under Dharkon's control." she replied. I nodded my head to her, and then we turned to a hallway that lead to Palutena's Throne. "You know that she won't give it up easily." I told her. "I know. That's why I will handle her with Pit and Dark Pit. I want you to go to this location here and use your powers to restore the world." she replied as she handed me a map. "Got it. Trying to protect me from Medusa, aren't you?" I replied. "Medusa is not your problem to deal with. We can handle her from here." she replied. I nodded my head in understanding. "Hey, Palutena? When I come back... there's something I want to ask you... alone." I said. "And what would that be?" she replied curiously. "I'll tell you when this battle is over." I replied.

She nodded her head in understanding, and then we heard two pairs of footsteps running towards us. We turned around and saw both Pit and Dark Pit run upto us. When I looked at Pit, I saw that the Three Sacred Treasures were not on him anymore. I guess that he decided to only use it against the army outside and save it for future battles. "Lady Palutena!" said Pit happily with tears in his eyes. "Pit!" Palutena replied. They shared an embrace for a moment, and then looked at me and Dark Pit. "Lady Palutena, are you alright? No one did anything to you, right?" Pit asked her. "I'm alright. No one touched my Trophy, but right now I'm worried for our world. After seeing what Medusa and the Underworld Army has done to it and to the people, I have to stop her. Pit? Dark Pit? Will you two help me in stopping her?" she replied. "Of course." Pit replied. "Sure." Dark Pit replied. "Wait? What about Spirit? She can use her Guardian powers to stop her too, right?" Pit asked her curiously. "She can... but I asked her to do something more important." she replied. The two Angels turned to me, and I nodded my head to them. "Go. You guys have a Temple to reclaim." I said. They nodded their heads in understanding, and then we went our separate ways.

Throne Room

"Augh! That no good little! She destroyed my best soldier! That's it! Twinbellows, Hewdraw, Thanatos, Pandora! Go after that warrior! She's heading to the surface of the human world!" said Medusa angrily. "Of course, Lady Medusa. As you wish." Pandora replied. After that, she sat on the throne and watched her allies go after me. "When they find her, I will make her pay for my strongest soldier's defeat. Defeating a soldier that is as strong as Palutena will not be accepted on my accord. I will put her through a living hell that will be far beyond her imagination." she said to herself. "Is that so?" replied a voice. She quickly stood up from the throne and looked out to the door; seeing burst apart in front of her. After many pieces fell; Pit, Dark Pit, and Palutena walked into the room and stared down their opponent. "Palutena!? What the hell are you doing here!? I thought you were-" said Medusa in shock. "Imprisoned by Dharkon? Not anymore. Me and the two most powerful angels in our world have returned to claim back the world you and your army have plagued... and for my throne." Palutena replied.

"Your throne? Ha! There is no way in the multiverse that you are getting this throne back. Don't you see? Ever since you and your two little angels were gone, the world has become a better place. And with me as its ruler, I've made the humans below truly understand what it truly takes to respect a Goddess." Medusa replied. "Shut your trap, Medusa. All you and your army have done is turn this world into a chaotic mess, just how Dharkon wants it." Dark Pit replied. "Dharkon? Ah... him. So he was the one my strongest soldier was working for. No wonder she felt the urge to fight that warrior of yours, before her demise." Medusa replied. "Yeah! That's what he gets for messing with the Lucreans!" Pit replied. "Lucreans? Was that what your friend is?" Medusa replied. "Yeah, and she is the strongest out of all of them!" he replied. "Pit! Stay quiet about that! Do you want her Kingdom to go through war again?" Dark Pit replied. "But I thought that would intimidate her..." Pit replied nervously. "Enough, you two!" Palutena replied.

Medusa laughed at their bickering and then picked up her staff; ready to fight. "Well then... I might as well take on this Lucrean myself, and see what she's really made of." she said in a threatening tone. "No you won't!" Palutena replied as she made a beam of Light from her staff; hitting her rival. Medusa shook off the pain and looked at her rival; seeing an intense glare in her eyes. "In order to get to her... you have to go through us." she said. Pit and Dark Pit readied their weapons and stood in front of Palutena; ready to fight. "Bring it on! I've been waiting a long time for this!" Medusa replied. After that, the four fighters charged at each other and the battle had begun.

Pit and Dark Pit flew up in the air and fired their arrows at Medusa; distracting her. Palutena was surprised to see them fly on their own as they did this; mostly at Pit. She lightly smiled as they flew around the room, and then began using Autoreticle on Medusa. Medusa retaliated at them and then used Explosive Flame on them, but saw them dodge it with ease. "What!? Impossible!" she said. "Nothing is impossible, Medusa." Palutena replied. She then made a light blue beam of Light appear from the ground and sent her flying to the ceiling and then fall down. Pit and Dark Pit flew towards her and used their Upperdash and Electroshock Arms on her; sending her flying up again. "With the strength of our friends with us... we can beat the odds of every battle we take!" said Pit. "Whatever enemies come our way, we will defeat them and save all worlds from darkness and chaos!" Dark Pit replied. "Because in the end... no one can hide from the Light!" Palutena replied. She raised her staff and used her Final Smash on Medusa; watching her get destroyed.

"No!" Medusa yelled as she was hit by the laser. The attack finished a moment later, and both Angels flew down to Palutena's side; seeing her look at the damage to the room. "Lady Palutena..?" said Pit in a sad, curious tone. "You okay?" Dark Pit asked her. She stayed silent and walked to her throne. She blinked her eyes, sat down, and used her powers to see where I was in this world. "Spirit? What's she doing down there?" Pit asked her as he and Dark Pit walked upto her. "You'll see. Ever since me and the others learned about her true past, I have been looking up history on her people and Kingdom; wondering how they all began and disappeared from their Earth's maps." she replied. "It's because they are stronger than the average human, and their powers would overwhelm them... making them go insane and power hungry." Pit replied. "I see. And I assume that this happen many centuries before Dharkon showed up?" she replied. Both Angels nodded their heads yes to her question.

She smiled warmly at them and then they saw me take down Hewdraw, Twinbellows, Thanatos, and Pandora in one attack. "Wow... she's getting a bit better with that form." said Pit. "Yeah, as long as she doesn't push herself too hard... she'll master it in no time." Dark Pit replied. "And that's something that she will have to learn on her own. The power of the Lifelight must still be too much for her. She's got some mental blocks to take down before having full control of the form." Palutena replied. They nodded their heads in agreement and then watched me kneel down to the ground and use my powers to restore the world from Dharkon's influence. Everyone at the Temple and the ground below saw everything get restored to its former glory and began to celebrate. "Alright! She did it!" Pit cheered happily. Dark Pit and Palutena lightly smiled at Pit's reaction, and then the three Fighters watched me fly away from the area. "Where did she go?" Dark Pit asked. "Right here." replied a voice. They looked out to the broken door and saw me walk inside the room; looking up at them.

I lightly smiled at them and then knelt down on my right knee. "Your world is now fully restored, Lady Palutena. The people are now free from the Underworld and Dharkon's influence. They now see that you have returned and that everything that they have lost has been returned to its former glory." I said. Palutena stood up from her throne and looked at me with a warm smile. "Spirit... thank you. Thank you for helping us in everything you have done for us. We are forever grateful." she said. I stood up and nodded my head to her in thanks. After that, the four of us exited the Temple and reunited with the team.

Inside the Great Fox

"So Spirit. What was it that you wanted to ask me back at the Temple?" Palutena asked me as she gently put down a cup of tea. I blinked my eyes, put down my cup of tea, and sat down next to Pikachu and Pichu. "It's something I've been wanting to ask you for a very long time." I replied. "Hm?" she replied curiously. "It's... it's about Pit." I replied. Her eyes lightly widened in surprise; wondering why I'm asking about him all of a sudden. I sighed nervously for a second and then petted Pikachu's head; comforting my senses. "How did he become an Angel? Was he born one? Or was he a human before becoming one?" I asked her. She lightly gasped in shock, looked down, and then turned away from me; trying to think of an answer. I blinked my eyes a couple times and then shyly turned away from her; now feeling bad of asking her the questions. "I... I had a feeling that you would ask me that..." she said.

"Hm?" I replied curiously as I turned back to her. "Your questions... I had a feeling that you would ask me that. You've always been curious of how Pit became an Angel ever since we met in the fourth tournament. Everyone has been curious of Pit's origins, but they were afraid to ask me about him for a long time. And that has been a question I'm afraid of answering." she replied. "Ah... I'm sorry for asking you those questions. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable about it. You don't have to answer them if you want too. We could just end it here if you want too." I replied. She turned to me, blinked her eyes, and then shook her head no to me. "No, Spirit. You deserve to know about it. I can't keep it hidden longer from him and everyone else any longer. You all deserve to know the truth about Pit." she said. "You sure?" I replied. She nodded her head yes to my question. She then picked up her teacup, took a sip, put it down, and then looked back at me.

"Spirit... Pit was a human." she said. My eyes widened in shock to her response. "Many years ago, Pit was born in a little village near the one town that he saved from Medusa's return. His parents were both farmers that worked in the marketplace; selling food and other items to make a living. When he was born, they gave him the name: Perseus. He helped his father with the farm and hunting every day. His father even taught him how to use a bow. He had lived a healthy life with them... until he was 10 years old." she replied. "What happened?" I replied. She sighed in a sad tone and then I saw tears form in her eyes; realizing that this was going to be painful. "When he was with his father in the town... Medusa and the Underworld Army came from the coliseum and attacked everyone in the town. His father tried to protect him as much as he could, but they were both slained by Medusa herself. I remember watching it all from the throne; seeing the look of fear in his eyes. When his soul appear, I took him away before she could take him. I revived him with my secret Time Spring and turned him into an Angel. When he opened his eyes and I asked him for his name, he told me that he didn't remember what his name was. That was when I realized that when I revived him, he had lost all of his memories. I felt so bad when he said that. I wanted to find a way to get him his memories back in order to see his parents, but then I realized that if I did give him his memories back... he would want to seek revenge on Medusa and become a monster. So, I chose not to give him back his memories, named him Pit, and raised him as my own." she replied as she wiped tears from her eyes.

I was very shocked and surprised to hear all of this from her. Now I see why she had kept this hidden from us all this time. I felt my heart break and wiped off a couple tears off my face a couple seconds later. "Wow... that was a deep story. But... do you sometimes think to yourself what would happen if you told him what you told me?" I said. "I do. Now with Medusa gone... all I want to do is find a way to reunite him with his parents... and let them know that he is being taken care of." she replied. "But what if they already know?" I replied. "Huh?" she replied. "I'm saying... I think they already know how much you are doing your best in taking care of him. Wherever they are, I know... no... we know that they are very proud of him for what he has become here in this world. And when the time is right... one day... we will tell him the truth of his origin and reunite him with his family." I replied as I stood up. She was surprised of what I had to say. She gently put her hand to heart and saw that I was right. One day... Pit has to know the truth about his past. She knows that it will be painful, but it will give him, her, and his parents the peace that they deserve.

She moved her hand away from her heart, looked up at me and saw a light smile on my face. She lightly smiled back and nodded her head in thanks and understanding; making me do the same. A few seconds later, my Slate began to beep. We turned to it silently, walked over to it, and saw what was on the screen. "PAC-MAN. That's his Trophy location." I said. "In that Maze with those four Ghosts?" she replied. "Yep." I replied. We stared at the screen for a moment and then turned to each other. "Ready to go?" she asked me. "Yeah." I replied. "Alright. I'll tell the others." she replied as she began to leave. "Hey, Palutena?" I replied. "Hm?" she replied as she turned to me. "Thank you... for telling me about him. If you and him need any help in your world in the future, just give me a call. I am forever in your debt." I replied. "You're welcome, Spirit. We will keep that offer in mind." she replied. After that, we began our preparations to leave for the PAC Maze.

Thank you so much for reading Chapter 50 of the story! Wow... 50 Chapters... I honestly thought that I would never make it this far with the story. Tbh, I was feeling really burnt out for the past five months when it came to the series; though the reveals of Sephiroth and Pyra/Mythra have kept me interested for a bit. But now the burn out has been vanquished! I'm starting to get back into writing the rest of the story; especially now that we are pre E3 season! I guarantee that we are getting a Character reveal during the online presentation! Could it be a fan favorite character like Sora from Kingdom Hearts? Or a unexpected character like Cinderace or Rillaboom from Pokémon Sword/Shield? Who knows? We have to wait and see this June!

Anyways, thank you so much for reading and have an awesome day!

Next time, Chapter 51: PAC-MAN (Bane of Ghosts). The team arrives at the PAC Maze and take on False PAC-MAN and the four famous Ghosts! How will they conquer the maze without being KO'd by the Ghosts? Or will they be dinner to False PAC-MAN? Find out in Chapter 51!
