Chapter 50

Carly was cleaning up in the kitchen when Rosanna came in;" Good morning, Carly."

"Good morning, rosebud." smiled she looking up;" Are you hungry?"

"A bit." answered her sister;" How are things between you and Jack?"

"Fine." replied Carly;" There isn't going to be much between us as long as he's still married to Janet and it doesn't look like she's going sign those papers anytime soon, Rosanna."

"Maybe I should have a talk with that woman." said she;" Jack wants to be with you and she should let him go instead of trying to keep her claws into him."

"Please don't go anywhere near her." begged her sister worried;" That will only make things worse and that is the last thing that we need right now."

"What are you going to do for valentine's day?" asked Rosanna quickly changing the subject;" Do you guys have something special planned, Carly?"

"I'm not doing anything for valentine's day." answered she with a sigh;" Jack is still married to Janet and the kids don't know any of this either. Until she signs those damn papers we can't go out in public, acting like a couple. Valentine's day is going to be like any other day of the year."

"Maybe we could go away on a little trip then since you're not doing anything special on valentine's day." began her sister hesitating;" Just you and me."

"I don't know, rosebud. I'd love to go somewhere with you, but I don't think that I'd be good company on valentine's day." replied Carly with a sad look;" I wish that I could be do something with Jack on valentine's day."

"I know, honey. But since you can't why don't you let me surprise you." said she;" I will take care of everything, Carly. I promise."

"Okay." answered her sister and walked away;" Maybe doing something with you is better than sitting at home, thinking about not being able to do something with Jack."

With a smile on her face Rosanna grabbed her phone, punched in a number and waited for someone on the other end of the line to pick up;" Hey, it's me. I took care of it and you owe me big time!"

Then she hung up and called another number;" Hey, it's me. We need to talk. I have an idea how to fix the problem."

A couple of hours later Sage came home from school and was surprised to find only her aunt at home;" Hi, aunt Rosanna. Where's mom?"

"She had to go out for a while." said she looking up;" You're home early from school."

"We finished early." answered her niece;" It's almost valentine's day."

"Yes, it is." replied Rosanna with a curious look at her niece, surprised that she was bringing that up;" Do you have a special somebody, Sage? A boy you like?"

"No,I don't." laughed she;" There aren't any cute boys in my class."

"Okay." smiled her aunt and got up from the couch;" I'm gonna make you some lunch."

"Are mom and dad doing something for valentine's day?" asked Sage as she followed Rosanna into the kitchen;" Together, aunt Rosanna?"

"Why are you asking me that?" said she surprised;" You do know that your father is still married to Janet, don't you?"

"But it's mom that he loves and she loves him." answered her niece with a stubborn look;" Dad doesn't love Janet!"

"I know that you have always hated the fact that your dad married Janet and that you'd rather have him come back to your mom, but please don't say stuff like that to your mom." replied Rosanna with a sigh;" Whatever is meant to happen will happen, Sage."

"Is dad leaving Janet? Is he coming back to mom and to us?" asked she suspicious;" Is that why dad is here so much and why we never see him with Janet anymore? We don't have to go to the farm anymore either. And each time we come in the room and dad is here mom suddenly moves away from him with a guilty look on her face like they're hiding something from us. And when dad isn't here mom is sad all the time and I know dad is too when he isn't with mom."

"Whatever is going on your parents will tell you about it when they think that it's time to tell you." said her aunt. She was amazed about how much Sage had already guessed and how smart her niece was;" Please don't say any of this to your mother because that's the last thing that she needs right now."

"So it's true!" smiled Sage happy;" Mom and dad are getting back together again, aunt Rosanna. I knew it!"

"Sssht!" warned she her niece stunned;" Please don't say stuff like that to your mother! Things are difficult enough for her as it is."

"Why?" answered her niece confused;" If dad wants mom back and she wants him too then why is it difficult?"

"It's not as simple as you think, Sage! That's all I'm going to say about it and please keep what we talked about to yourself!" replied Rosanna;" The last thing your mom needs right now is you asking her questions like that."

"I won't say anything to mom. I promise." said she softly;" But mom and dad belong together, so why do grown-ups always make things so difficult."

"You're asking that to the wrong person." laughed her aunt and gave Sage a hug;" It'll be okay. I promise."
