Is there such thing as too much fluff? What do you think so far? Do the transition chapters help give you an idea of what may happen? As always, thank you for the comments. You are all awesome!

Sam stood up and stretched. He was pleased that the movement didn't hurt. It took a while to heal but he only ached when he was up on his feet too long. His ribs were good as new. John and Dean had been hunting while he healed. He was almost to the point that he wanted to get back in the saddle. He doubted that John would be as eager for him to return.

Dean shut the door behind him as he ran into Bobby's house. It was October in South Dakota which meant the nights were colder than Dean preferred. Running in the cold was refreshing but he couldn't feel his face. He ran up the stairs and let the hot water from the shower wake up his frozen cheeks.

Bobby sat at his desk looking through a book. John was off on a hunt and needed information about a creature he wasn't sure how to kill. Bobby scratched his beard. This was how they had started out the year. He looked at the calendar. The months flew by fast.

Kate noticed the months ticking by as well. She still had quite a while with her dad but was afraid that she would blink and it would be over. She became more antsy as the days ticked by. She wanted to fix everything and keep him around forever. She hadn't had any visions since they left Bobby's house when Sam got hurt. It was a little weird but a welcomed break.

Hannah was excited about Halloween. She chatted non stop about her costume and trick or treating.

Kate had never gone trick or treating before and Hannah was insistent that she go with them. Her daily life was Halloween without the candy.

Sam picked up his buzzing phone to see a text from Kate. Is trick or treating dangerous? He chuckled and told her it was usually fine but he could walk around with her if she needed him to.

Kate told Sam that she would consider it.

Dean stepped out of the shower and flopped down on his bed. He had put in more miles to handle the stress he was under.

"Do you want to go trick or treating with Kate?" Sam asked.

Dean looked behind him. "Isn't it a little early?"

Sam rolled his eyes. "Not today, dumbass."

Dean shrugged. "Maybe, but I'm not dressing up."

Kate was pleased that they would even offer.

#######

On the morning of Halloween, the impala pulled up in front of the cabin. Kate tackled them with a hug, just as she always did. Dean noticed the lifeless look on Brian's face.

Brian had been quiet for weeks. He didn't say more than he needed to.

Kate did her best not to bother him. With Sam and Dean there, she could have some fun and leave him alone for a few hours.

Dean reminded himself to talk to the man later.

They met up at Mandy's house and Kate and Hannah were all squeals and giggles. They went inside to change into the costumes they had worked so hard on.

Dean cocked his head to the side as they ran back down the stairs. "What are you supposed to be?"

Kate laughed. "You, silly!"

Dean took a step back. "Me?"

She hugged him around the waist. "Our group decided to dress as our favorite superhero."

Dean coughed and wiped his eyes. "Allergies." He said, hiding the fact that he was turning into a puddle.

Hannah spun around. "And I am Sam."

Sam blushed.

Mandy smiled. "I hope you two are okay with that. They were pretty insistent."

Dean stayed silent because he couldn't talk around the lump in his throat.

"Relax Dean. This is warmer than the costumes the store sells and dad would never let me spend money on a costume I can only wear once." Kate said with a grin.

Dean smiled and took a pillowcase that Mandy was holding out for them. "Okay, kids. I expect at least two of these full of candy. One for me and you can split the other one."

Kate snatched the pillowcase out of his hands. "You don't need any candy."

Dean shook his head and followed them out the door.

Mandy waved. "I'll be here handing out candy. Just call if you need anything."

Dean looked at Hannah. She had brown hair that nearly reached her jeans. She had it pulled back in a braid. "Hey, Sam. She does look like you, hair and all."

Sam smacked the back of Dean's head. "Jerk."

"Bit-" Dean stopped himself, remembering Hannah was beside him.

Hannah pulled out a knife and showed Sam. "It isn't real but it is like the one Kate has. She said you have one too."

Sam looked approvingly at the craftmanship. He then looked at Kate. The look clearly read 'Why did you have your knife on you around Hannah?'

Kate smirked. She had shown Hannah all kinds of things but they didn't need to know that.

They walked along the sidewalk until they got to a house with a porch light on. A sweet older woman opened the door.

"Trick or treat." Kate said happily.

The woman smiled sweetly. "What are you two dressed as?"

"My favorite super hero."

The woman looked confused.

Kate motioned behind her at Sam and Dean. "My big brothers."

The woman thought that was the most adorable thing she had ever witnessed and gave them several handfuls of candy.

They thanked her and skipped back to the sidewalk.

Dean raised a brow. "Big brothers are we?"

Kate scrunched her nose. "Basically. Plus, it sounds better than two random guys who like to hang out with little kids."

Dean ruffled her hair. "You have a point there."

The night drew on and the pillowcases filled with candy. Dean had to admit that Kate was an excellent salesman.

One of the houses was passing out hot chocolate. They each grabbed a cup and found a picnic table to rest while they sipped the warm liquid.

Hannah was on a sugar high and vibrating with energy. She talked rapidly and Kate followed right with her.

"Stop. What did you just say?" Dean asked.

Hannah paused. "She wasn't sure."

"Kate."

Kate shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know."

"Katelyn." Dean urged.

Kate bit her lip.

"Oh, about vampires? Yeah I know those are real, and ghosts and all kinds of things. I mean its kind of cool. Scary but cool and people dress up like those things but it isn't like the movies." She rambled rapidly.

Kate elbowed her.

Hannah's eyes got wide. She forgot that all of that was supposed to be a secret.

"Kate, a moment please." Dean said, flicking his eyes.

Kate got up and walked a few yards away from the table.

"You told her?" He asked.

"Well, she remembered more about the vampire attack than we thought." Kate defended herself.

Dean pinched the bridge of his nose. "There is a reason that we keep those things a secret."

Hannah looked over at Dean and Kate. "What is going on?"

Sam ran his hands through his hair. "She wasn't supposed to tell you about that."

"Why?"

"Because it is a rule." Sam tried to deter her questions.

"That is a silly rule." Hannah commented.

"Not to our family. We keep that a secret because it is dangerous." Sam said.

Hannah turned back and watched as Dean scolded Kate. She couldn't hear what they were saying but Kate looked worried. "Why is he so upset?"

Sam groaned. "Like I said, it is a rule."

Hannah tilted her head. "Well, I know and I'm fine. So it isn't really a problem."

Sam squinted his eyes. "It is a problem. She knows that it is an important rule and there's going to be some backlash from breaking it."

Hannah tilted her head the opposite way. She reminded Sam of a confused puppy. "So he is going to yell at her and then we can go back to trick or treat?"

It was Sam's turn to tilt his head. "Uh, we will probably head home."

Hannah furrowed her brows. "Why?"

"Because she messed up and she is in trouble." Sam wasn't sure what Hannah wasn't getting.

"Like grounded?"

Sam tried to answer her question in a way that would make her drop the topic.

Dean grunted as he was hip checked by mini Sam.

Hannah pulled Kate back and stood in front of her. "You can't hit her."

Dean threw his hands up and looked over to Sam.

"You shouldn't hit kids."

Dean rubbed his face. "I think you have your information wrong."

Kate's face was red. "Hannah, it is okay."

"No. The only reason you told me was because I read your journal. You wanted me to stop asking questions but I didn't. You told me some of it because I was having bad dreams and knowing that there was a way to fight evil helped me get over my fear. I am not going to let this barbarian hit you." Hannah said with confidence.

"God, you are mini Sam." Dean mumbled. "Why didn't you tell me any of that?"

Kate shrugged. "You didn't give me a chance."

Dean walked them back over to the table. "We need to sit down with your parents and let them know and I'm going to have to talk to Brian. That is pretty much how Sam found out so I can't put too much blame on you."

Kate relaxed. "Thanks for saving me." She said to Hannah.

Dean looked at Hannah. "For the record, I do not hit kids. She may get her butt swatted but that is about it."

Kate jabbed him in the side. "Dean!"

He shoved her shoulder. "I have a reputation to uphold."

Hannah wasn't sure how that was so different since her parents never did it but Kate looked happy again so she dropped it. "Sorry I caused all of this."

Dean shook his head. "Let's just head back out. My candy tax prices have risen."

Both girls' eyes were growing heavy as they ran from door to door. They were getting increasingly goofy as they grew more tired.

Sam snorted. "You act drunk."

Kate giggled and flopped down on the grass. Hannah followed suit.

"Come on you two, let's head home." Dean announced.

"Aww Dean, just a few more houses." Kate whined.

Dean smirked. "Kate, you can't even walk straight."

Kate frowned. He had a point

Dean patted his shoulder as a sign that he'd give her a piggy back ride. "You got her?" Dean asked, motioning to Hannah.

Sam bent so that Hannah could hop on his back. She weighed barely anything.

Mandy saw the boys walking toward the house holding the bags of candy and carrying the girls on their backs. "Are they worn out?"

Sam walked over and turned so Mandy could take Hannah from his back. "It might be a sugar coma."

Mandy laughed. "Did they have fun?"

Dean laid Kate down in the backseat of the impala and returned to stand in front of Mandy. "I'm sure you will hear all about it as soon as she wakes up." Dean chewed the inside of his cheek. "Apparently Kate has shared some of her knowledge about the supernatural, with Hannah."

Mandy looked concerned. "I didn't know that."

"She said that Hannah was having nightmares about monsters and she told her how to get rid of them. That apparently helped Hannah get over the fear. There is more to it but that was the gist of it. I apologize. I know that is something you weren't planning on telling her." Dean replied.

Mandy brushed hair from Hannah's face. She smiled warmly. "That is something I can talk to them about. Hannah has been in much better spirits lately so maybe it was for the best."

They said their goodbyes and got back in the car.

Sam looked in the backseat and chuckled. Kate was asleep with her arm thrown over her eyes. Her mouth was slightly open and she'd start drooling soon. "Now she really does look like you."

Dean smacked Sam's head. "Bitch."

"Jerk." Sam replied, rubbing his head.

Truth be told, Dean was flattered that she had dressed up like him. He was her favorite superhero. He was honored and secretly emotional. His heart was bursting with pride. Outwardly he was unbothered. After all, he did have a reputation to uphold.
