Prompt: Send In A Word, And I'll Write A Drabble Or Starter Based On It. Or send in multiple words and I'll attempt to work out a drabble around all of them!
Prompt words: Freedom, Dishonesty, Coffee, Home, Steal, Youth, Alone
I tried my best to incorporate every word, though some are blink and you'll miss them.
"I hate these stupid youth group meetings!" Shelly complained to Kevin, as they entered the church's multipurpose room.
"At least they're givin' us pizza tonight," Kevin replied optimistically.
Shelly sighed. Kevin would have sat through a six hour lecture on the proper way to use an enema if it meant free food at the end.
The two friends grabbed a couple of seats in the back of the room. Nearly every seventh to twelfth grader in South Park was milling around, chatting idly.
Father Maxi clapped his hands to get the youth group's attention. "Okay, kids! Settle down! Tonight we have a special guest speaker!"
Shelly and several other teens groaned loudly. Father Maxi didn't have the best track record when it came to choosing guest speakers. Shelly was still having war flashbacks about the "Abstinence is Totes Awesome!" lecture from a few months ago.
"Please welcome Mr. Richard Tweak!"
"Why the hell is he here?" Shelly hissed to Kevin. "His kid is only in the fourth grade!" Kevin shrugged in response.
"Hi, kids!" Mr. Tweak greeted warmly. "How are we doing tonight?"
He was met with stony silence.
Undeterred, Mr. Tweak continued. "Being a teenager is hard. There's peer pressure, school, arguments with your parents. For you juniors and seniors out there, you have to worry about SATs and college applications."
Shelly rolled her eyes. She already knew that being a teenager sucked. She didn't need some geriatric reminding her of the fact. Next to her, Kevin kept peeking longingly at the boxes of pizza that were stacked on the tables behind them.
"But no matter how stressful things get, there's somebody who will always be there for you."
Shelly snorted loudly, ignoring the warning look that Father Maxi shot at her. God was there for her about as much as her dad was. God didn't seem to give a shit when she was alone and miserable.
"Tweak Bros Coffee! Whenever you need to get away from your parents for awhile or study for those final exams, Tweak Bros will be there every step of the way! With our fast Wi-fi and our variety of coffees, Tweak Bros can provide you an escape. An escape like a wintery weekend in Aspen. Tweak Bros coffee is that snow-capped mountain you see when you look out the window of that cozy ski lodge. It's that rush of excitement you get when you've conquered that double black diamond trail. It's the-"
Shelly couldn't sit there and listen to that turd hawk his coffee any longer. "Let's get out of here," she whispered, tugging on Kevin's sleeve.
Kevin was torn. He hated youth group too. But at the same time, he wasn't about to turn down free pizza. He was ready to decline when he saw the daggers that Shelly was glaring at him.
After ensuring that Father Maxi wasn't watching, Shelly crept out of her seat. Kevin followed. As they passed the stack of pizzas piled on the table next to the door, Kevin grabbed the nearest box and bolted out of the room as quickly and quietly as he could.
The two teens burst out of the church's double doors, relishing in their freedom. They sprinted towards Stark's Pond, which was just down the road.
"You better have stolen something good, turd!" Shelly panted, as she and Kevin approached the pond.
Kevin lifted the lid of the pizza box. "It's pepperoni."
Shelly was satisfied with that. She and Kevin found the nearest bench and dug in.
Shelly raised an eyebrow as Kevin inhaled three slices of pizza before she even finished her first. She knew that Kevin's home life had been getting worse lately and that money was tighter than ever. No wonder he was so hungry.
Kevin offered her the pizza box. "I'm full," she lied. She could grab something to eat at home. Kevin didn't have that option.
The two sat by the pond for quite some time before Shelly glanced at her phone. She heaved a sigh. "I guess we better head back now."
Shelly and Kevin trudged back to church, where their dads were waiting to pick them up. As much as they hated youth group, they hated going home even more. Being at home only reminded them of how alone they felt within their families. At least they could suffer together at youth group.
