Skylor clenched her fists tightly as she glared at the boiling kettle as she made herself some green tea to try and calm her nerves. When she saw Wendy signing the contract for the empty apartment across the hall from them yesterday she was in denial, at first. She had hoped that Wendy had some common sense and basic decency not to do something like this, but obviously, she was very wrong. She understood that Wendy just wanted to be with her grandchild, the only piece she had left of Morro, but anyone could see this was wrong.

Skylor had yet to tell Kai, or anyone, about the situation.

She just didn't know how to tell them. Kai was only just starting to return to his old self and she was scared this might send him back to square one. She just had to keep Kai and Wendy apart until she found a way to explain it to the brunette. Just then, Kai entered the kitchen, looking bored as he searched the refrigerator and cabinets for anything to end his cravings.

"Hey! How about we go and see a movie or something, we haven't done anything together in months." She suddenly blurted out, startling him slightly. She just needed to get him out of the building until she figured out how to get rid of Wendy.

"What? Now?"

"Yeah, I mean, you've only just got back and you need to avoid as much stress as possible." She replied with a large smile, hoping Kai didn't get suspicious. Luckily he was too bored to care and agreed. He excused himself to get changed and to check the local movie theatres to see what's one. Skylor told him that she was going downstairs to wait for him while she called a cab and left the apartment. As soon as she closed the door, she bolted down the stairs and headed straight to the lobby.

There she found the landlord's assistant who had been with Wendy yesterday doing some paperwork.

"Don't tell you've rented that apartment to Wendy Ren?!" She screeched before the assistant could even get a word in.

"I'm sorry Miss Chen, but I can't really discuss tenants with you." He replied, looking a little scared at this woman screaming and shouting at him.

"She's Morro Ren's mother!" She cried and the man instantly paled.

"Kai's Morro?"

"No, Kai's rapist!" She corrected angrily. "You've moved his mother across the hall from his victim! You'll have to get rid of her!"

"Well, she's paid-up six months in advance and she already signed a contract, it's all done." He replied, looking guilty, but Skylor wasn't happy with that answer.

"Then undo it!" She demanded just as Kai entered the lobby.

"Hey, Sky! I just looked online and that scary clown movie's on in the next hour." He said, not noticing the tense atmosphere between the man and Skylor.

"Mr. Smith, I really had no idea, I'm so sorry." The assistant suddenly apologized before Skylor could stop him.

"No idea about what?" Kai asked in confusion and the red-haired woman started to panic.

"T-That you're back from your vacation already!" She exclaimed with a wide, nervous smile. When Kai frowned, she knew she had to change the subject quickly. "Um, do you think a scary movie is right during the pregnancy? You're meant to be avoiding stress, and besides, I hear that movie's got a scene about underage kids and it's REALLY gross." She shuddered in disgust.

"I think that scenes only in the book." He defended but Skylor refused to back down. "Fine, I see what else is on." He groaned and headed back upstairs to 'borrow' Nya's laptop again. As soon as he was gone, the assistant turned to Skylor with a look of disappointment.

"He has to know or he'll be blindsided."

"Not if I talk to Wendy first, and give her the chance to see sense and go." She stated, feeling confident that she could convince Wendy to leave Kai and the baby alone.

"She really did seem very decent." The assistant sighed but Skylor glared.

"She's not though, is she? If she was she'd have never shown her face around here again." She growled just as Kai came back downstairs, this time with an acceptable movie. Skylor forced a happy smile as she called the cab and they drove off, hoping that she got to Wendy before she got to Kai...

Kai couldn't keep the big smile off his face as Skylor, Nya, and his three boyfriends helped unload the shopping bags from the cab. After the movie had finished Skylor had suggested they go on a shopping spree since the fourth of July was a month away and all the stores were having sales. His best friend soon regretted it, however, as she quickly learned that Kai was the textbook definition of a shopaholic. She had the smoking credit cards to prove it.

But it was totally worth it to see the joyful smile on Kai's face like he didn't have a care in the world.

"Aw! Look at this!" The brunette squealed in delight as he held up a snowy white teddy bear that was dressed up like Uncle Sam. The others chuckled at his child-like glee, and they all wondered whether this was hormones or Kai was starting to finally recover from what Chen, Morro, and Iron Baron had done to him. They also had a thought that his newfound excitement that was because the baby was due in six weeks. The baby's due date was mid-July and the midwife had once commented that summer was a great time to have a baby.

It seemed Kai agreed with her because he had been on cloud nine for the last couple of weeks.

"It's good to have you back you know." Nya smiled as they hand almost the bags to Cole, who was the strongest of their group.

"Not properly, but I am trying." He admitted, his smile faltered slightly, but it didn't disappear. Nya gave her brother a quick peck on the cheek, only to freeze and stare angrily at something over his shoulder. They all turned to follow her gaze and Skylor descended into full-on panic mode when they saw Wendy approaching them after getting out of her cars. Cole, Jay, and Zane frowned when they saw boxes and a couple of suitcases through her car's back windows.

As Wendy approached them Nya stood between her and her brother while Skylor was frozen in her spot, her mind trying to come up with a quick damage control plan but failing.

"Hello, Kai." The older woman greeted, looking very uncomfortable as her eyes scanned over everyone in their group.

"Wendy? What're you doing back here?" Kai asked in confusion with a slight hint of irritation at seeing Wendy again.

"Well, I've tried to call and left you messages but you didn't ring back."

"What's your point?" Cole asked with a withering scowl.

"I didn't want to bother you but... I wanted to tell you."

"Tell me what?"

"I'm moving, into the apartment across the hall." She finally said and Kai's eyes widened in horror while the others looked angry, none more so than Nya.

"There's not a chance that you're moving in here." The younger Smith sibling snarled.

"Y-You can't be here." Kai stammered, his voice cracking slightly as he clutched the bear in his fist so tight it looked ready to burst. "Wendy please don't do this."

"I really don't mean to upset you."

"You're trying to force your way into his life!" Jay exclaimed in frustration.

"You're as bad as your son," Cole added and Wendy flinched slightly, but didn't back down.

"I'll not cause you any bother and I will stay out of your way." She promised them all just as another car pulled up and both Lloyd and Misako stepped out. Lloyd was sporting a black eye and a badly bruised nose; luckily it wasn't broken. "I promise that you'll not even realize I live or work here." She suddenly added, causing everyone, even Lloyd and Misako to stiffen.

"Work?" Zane frowned.

"Nurse practitioner; I-I start on Thursday at the GP down the road." She admitted as Kai looked ready to have a panic attack.

"Wendy why?" Misako asked her friend in disappointment.

"Because I needed to be nearer for the job."

"But you're next door to Kai." She argued and Wendy turned back to said brunette.

"I didn't mean to be so near."

"But you are! You could have picked any apartment but this one!" Skylor hissed.

"I looked around and nothing was quite right until this place." She tried to explain, but Nya stepped closer to her in a threatening manner.

"So keep looking." She growled into Wendy's face.

"Hey, back off," Lloyd warned, but Nya didn't pay him any attention and slapped the keys out of Wendy's hand.

"How can you think to scare me when you've already? When the worst has already happened?" She asked with a small glare. "We're all just trying to get on with our lives."

"But you being here stops me from doing that." Kai whimpered as tears welled up in his amber orbs and Wendy did look sympathetic.

"Well I'm sorry you feel that way Kai, and hopefully in time you'll come to understand why." She replied and glanced down at Kai's large baby bump that was protruding underneath Kai's thin tank top. As soon as she said this, Kai's eyes widened in fear as he stepped back and wrapped his arms around his bump as if to shield it from her gaze.

"You're not getting anywhere near my child!" He exclaimed and Wendy sighed sadly.

"You've made that very clear." She replied before going back to her car to collect her boxes. While Wendy and Lloyd moved to unload the boxes, Misako looked back at the terrified Kai and his enraged family.

"I had no idea, Wendy only called us to ask-" She started, but Skylor and the three agents had already started leading Kai away from her and away from the apartment building. "Kai, please, I didn't know!" She called out as she tried to follow them, but Nya blocked her path.

"Well now you do, what you're you gonna do?" She asked but Misako didn't know how to respond. Nya scowled at her for a few seconds before chasing after her brother...

"Kai, baby, I brought you here so we could get the measure of things, not to scowl at your hot cocoa." Jay smiled lightly as Kai glared daggers at the now cool hot cocoa cupped in his trembling hands. When he heard that Wendy was moving next door to them, he had all but shut down and hardly said a word. They had retreated to the cafe to talk things out, but Kai refused to speak. Skylor had yet to tell anyone that she had known since yesterday that Wendy was moving in and she decided that she wouldn't say anything.

There wasn't any point now. Nya had already told them that Wendy had helped Skylor with her cut hand almost as soon as they got back, so that wasn't a secret.

"Whatever," Kai mumbled, not meeting anyone's eyes.

"We need to sort this out and talk," Zane added and it was like a switch had been turned inside the pregnant brunette.

"Why?! What the fuck is talking gonna do?!" He bellowed, causing the group to jump and a few nearby customers and staff to look over at them, but this didn't deter Kai's rampage as he turned to a stunned and slightly scared Cole. "You know you've got it right with Lloyd, talking doesn't fix things it just makes things worse, knowing that you're completely helpless!"

"But you're not." The noirette agent argued and Kai laughed bitterly.

"No, I know I'm not, I do have a choice; I can live with Wendy being my shadow for the rest of this pregnancy and a few weeks after the birth, or we speed up our plans to move." He told them before took a breath and excusing himself to the restroom.

"Wendy's got to be mad," Jay grumbled into his coffee when Kai left.

"Mad with grief." Zane countered and they all turned to him. "Whatever Morro was, he was still her son; and I'm certain that losing a child damages a person so much that no amount of time will heal those wounds and there is no right or wrong, especially when it's this raw and she's not rational." He explained, but no one was sympathetic for her.

"So she can just make Kai suffer even more?" Nya huffed.

"We're not defending her," Skylor replied as Kai returned to the table. At that moment, Wendy, Misako, and Lloyd entered the cafe and approached the counter. As soon as Wendy saw them, she immediately walked over to their table with Misako chasing after her. She was about to say something but Skylor beat her to it.

"Uh, no Wendy, you need to go." She said sternly.

"Of course, we didn't know you were in here," Misako replied and tried to lead her friend away, but Wendy refused to move.

"Skylor, I-I thought we were alright now?" She stammered in shock.

"For God's sake! You want to harasser him here too?!" Jay exclaimed, getting really annoyed with Wendy upsetting one of his boyfriends.

"No one's harassing anyone." She argued, but they all ganged up on her.

"Not three hours ago you promised to steer clear of him!" Cole scowled.

"Yes, and I meant it!" She exclaimed before taking a deep breath and turning to Kai, who had yet to look up from his now cold drink. "I just came to let you all know that I'm here now at the GP full-time, so if you had any questions about babies or other issues then you know where I am."

"Well, he doesn't," Nya answered for him.

"Nya, stop it." Skylor scolded before looking back at the older woman. "Wendy, you being here is not right." She said just as Cole got up and walked to the door, holding it open and turning back to the trio.

"You've got five seconds." He threatened them. Wendy glanced back at Kai before taking the hint and walking out of the cafe with Lloyd and Misako following close behind. Lloyd and Wendy walked out without issue, but just before Misako joined them, Cole blocked her path with his arm. "Kai said you believe him, so you fix it or we will." He warned before lowering his arm and allowed her to pass...

Later that afternoon, after leaving Kai and his family back at the cafe, Misako had all but dragged Lloyd and Wendy back to the apartment. It was mostly empty as there were over a dozen different boxes to unpack. While Wendy excused herself to her new bedroom, Misako dismissed her son and told him to go out and get them all some lunch while she had a quiet word with her friend. As soon as Lloyd left, she headed to the master bedroom and found Wendy sat on the bed wiping her teary eyes.

"Are you okay?" She asked as so sat next to her.

"I hate this." Wendy sniffled, trying to fight away the tears.

"Then why are you making it worse for yourself?" Misako asked and Wendy glared at her.

"Oh, for myself? Or do you mean for Kai?" She hissed before sighing. "I haven't come here to torment him."

"Is it the baby?" She asked, but Wendy scoffed.

"Kai's made it very clear he doesn't want me to have anything to do with Morro's child."

"You do understand why that is right?"

"Of course I do! I am a reminder of him, but not in the way they all think! I am a reminder of his guilt and how his lies led to the murder of my son!" She exclaimed, but Misako shook her head in disagreement. "Look, I don't hate Kai, and I'm sure he never meant for any of this, but that first lie... it led to the rest of it and now I owe it to my son to here for his child; they are all I have left of him."

"I've known Morro since he was a child, but you and I both know that he did some terrible things, so I'm sorry but I believe Kai." She replied, but to her surprise, Wendy didn't look angry at her statement.

"I don't blame you, but please don't blame me for believing my son, who I knew from the moment of conception." She implored her best friend.

"I understand Wendy, honestly I do, I mean, I have never loved anyone as fiercely as Lloyd, nothing comes close!" She said passionately. "My son is the kindest, sweetest, most honorable, loyal, and loving person I know; but he is flawed, and as his mother, that's really hard to admit." She sighed sadly and Wendy nodded in understanding.

"Morro has his... had his flaws; you remember how he used to lie all the time?" She chuckled sadly, which Misako joined in. "About staying out too late, staining my rug with wine he stole, and he tormented Lloyd for fun sometimes, and he never did his share of chores at home, but he wasn't evil."

"An evil act doesn't make an evil person." She replied. "Listen Wendy, the things Lloyd has done, and what he's capable of, I would never have believed it! I would have gone to my grave swearing his innocence!" She said and Wendy was about to say something, but she cut her off. "Unless I'd have seen it myself, or he had told me." She added and that made Wendy pause. She sat there in silence, thinking for a few minutes, before looking directly into Misako's eyes.

"Morro told me." She said and Misako's eyes widened. "He told me... that he would never, EVER touch somebody who didn't want to be touched! He knew I would never tolerate that kind of behavior!"

"And that's enough to stop him?"

"Yes!"

"No, not from rape, from telling you." She said, but Wendy shook her head in denial.

"Don't twist my words!"

"I'm not trying to catch you out, all I'm say is if Morro knew that you would never forgive him then why would he ever risk losing you by telling you the truth?" She asked and Wendy's eyes widened as she hesitated, but only for a moment.

"That questions pointless because he didn't do it." She whispered, more to herself than anything. Misako shook her head in defeat just as Lloyd returned with their lunch. His mother left to go find which box they packed the plates into and left her son and best friend alone. Lloyd turned to the woman sat on the bed and gave her a sad, pitiful look.

"He's not gonna let you into the baby's life Wendy, not like this anyway." He told her. "You said it yourself, he believes Morro raped him, so does everyone else."

"What do you believe?" She asked, and Lloyd looked down.

"...I believe he's not a liar." He admitted, looking a little sick as he said it.

"You don't mean that." She said in disbelief. "You and Morro had your problems but..." She trailed off, not sure what to say. Instead, she stood up and took Lloyd's hands into her. "You do trust me don't you?"

"Of course."

"Well I KNOW he could never have forced himself on Kai or anyone, and I believed that of Morro as fiercely as I believe that about you." She said and Lloyd clenched both their hands, finally looking up at her.

"I grew up with him Wendy! He was like a brother to me!" He exclaimed angrily.

"So you know he wasn't capable of this! Morro did nothing wrong and he was killed for it!" She cried. "I miss him so much Lloyd; I just want my boy back, but I'm never gonna see him again, and his child, my grandchild, I can be here for them! I have to be!" She stated as the tears returned. Lloyd sighed sadly and pulled her into a hug, knowing that she wouldn't listen to his mother, never mind him...

That night Wendy couldn't sleep. Lloyd and Misako had helped her unpack everything and put it into the apartment before they left. When they were all carrying the last of the boxes upstairs, Wendy saw Kai and his family giving them death stares, but she refused to be scared off by them or anyone else. Kai was absolutely livid as Wendy finished unpacking. She couldn't just expect him to sit by and do nothing. His family all promised him that she wouldn't be here long, but he didn't believe them.

He seriously doubted there was much they could do now.

As she tossed and turned in her new bed, Wendy was about to drop off when there was suddenly a loud banging at her front door. She looked at the clock on the nightstand next to her and frowned when she saw it was three in the morning. Cautiously, she got up and walked to the front door, and screamed when she saw a pool of red, nasty-smelling smoke pooling at the bottom of her front door. When she didn't feel any heat or smell any burning, she was certain there wasn't a fire.

She quickly turned on the fans and the smoke blew away, revealing a small capsule lying on the ground just next to the crack under the door.

Someone had snuck a smoke bomb under the door and into her apartment. Without thinking, Wendy ripped open the door and rushed out into a dimly lit hallway, but there was no sign of anyone. All the doors were closed and she couldn't hear anyone. Some of the vapor from the red smoke bomb had dripped down the bottom of her white door, staining it an ugly red, blood-like color.

"Where are you?!" She shouted into thin air, pure terror trembling through her entire body. "Well come on if you wanna have a go!" She tried to taunt, but no one took the bait. "You're nothing but a coward!" She screamed and finally, a man from the other end of the hallway aggressively opened his door and glared at her. He cursed at the older woman and told her to shut up and go back to bed. Knowing that she wasn't going to catch the culprit now, Wendy did as she was told and went back inside.

She locked the door and stuffed a bath towel into the crack to prevent any more cruel tricks.

Despite all that, Wendy couldn't get any sleep that night...
