Chapter 51: Future is now

Arizona's POV

It had been almost fifteen years since Calliope, and I got married for the second times and there was nothing wrong with our lives.

Sofia was now twenty years old and a student at Columbia University while her little brother, Will, was fourteen.

A year after Will's abduction, we bought a beautiful apartment with a huge terrace where the children could play together while we read and sunbathed. We also bought a little house in the Hamptons across from the sea where we spent the weekends so the kids could let off steam.

That morning, the four of us were relaxed since it was the first day of summer vacation. I got up early to prepare breakfast for my family, set the table on the terrace and then went to wake up my three favorite people in the world.

I started by waking Callie up because I wanted to have as much time as I wanted to take care of her.

"Good morning baby," I said as I walked into the room with a coffee in hand, "you need to wake up. I've prepared you a breakfast."

"Thank you, honey." She replied as I sat down next to her. "Are the kids up yet?"

"Not yet, I wanted us both to have some time before our two monsters woke up."

"Wow, you really are perfect!"

"Indeed, I am perfect and the best thing about me is that I love you. I love you so much, Calliope."

"I love you too, baby." She said before kissing me softly.

"Well," I concluded, "you have all the time you want to wake up while I will take care of our two wonders."

"I will put on a T-shirt and then join you on the terrace."

I placed another small kiss on her lips before going to wake up our two children. Thirty minutes later, once everyone was ready for breakfast, we all sat down to eat.

"Okay," I started, "what do you want to do on this vacation?"

"On a personal note," Sofia suggested, "I'd love to go to the Hamptons for a few days next week for Scott's birthday."

Scott had been Sofia's best friend for almost ten years. He met because his mother worked at the research center Arizona ran.

"Fine," Callie agreed, "we'll go to the Hamptons next week, but this week I suggest you both go to your grandparents' in Florida for a few days. That way, me and your mom will spend a few days just the two of us to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Is that okay with you?"

"Yes!" They all said at the same time.

They all agreed, and the day went perfectly. It was a perfect day with my perfectly imperfect family.

Callie's POV

Two days later, we dropped our kids off at the airport to go to Florida before leaving for a vacation together.

Arizona still had not told me where she wanted to go, but I trusted her to make it a perfect surprise. She knew me by heart, I knew her by heart, and we understood each other perfectly. I knew I would not be disappointed by her plans.

After watching from the waiting room as our children's plane took off, my wife finally announced me where we were going for our romantic vacation.

"Baby," she announced, "I am happy to announce you that we are going to spend this week in Los Angeles."

"Los Angeles?"

"I know it's been a long time since you've seen Addison and she agreed to lend us her beach house."

"It's great, it's...perfect!"

"Besides, the advantage is that we do not even have to change airport. Our plane leaves in two hours and in the meantime, we are going to have a drink in a chic bar in the airport."

"Are you aware that you're perfect?"

"I'm not perfect, but I try to make you think I am by making you extremely happy."

"You make me beautifully happy, baby."

"Well, let's go."

We both sat down in a nice quiet café and had a cappuccino while talking about our children. Several hours later, we landed in Los Angeles where Addison was waiting for us. Despite the distance, she had remained one of my best friends and we visited each other regularly. In fact, Henry and Sofia were very good friends.

However, it had been almost a year since we had seen each other as we both had busy years. Once we saw Addison, we hugged warmly. There is nothing like a good friendship to make you smile.

Arizona's POV

Once we were done hugging, we headed to the parking lot to have Addison take us to the beach house. It had been almost five years since she had bought another house closer to the clinic, but she had kept this house and was subletting it. She parked the car in front of the house before bringing our things inside the house. The three of us went inside and sat on the terrace with glasses of fresh lemonade.

"It's really nice to have you here," Addison began, "and it's nice to be able to spend a week with you."

"We are as happy about it as you are." I continued. "It will do us good to be quiet and peaceful for a few days."

"It's true that this year, we've had a lot of work to do, so it's going to be nice to get some rest." Callie added. "I don't feel like I've had much time for us without the kids."

"The purpose of this getaway is for you to relax and spend time as lovers without thinking about anything but each other." Addison explained. "I have a pretty quiet week so I can be there whenever you want."

"That's fine with me." Callie said before placing a kiss on my cheek.

"I'll take you out to dinner tonight at one of the best restaurants in town, Reno's." Addison concluded. "Then I'll drive you back here and you'll have the whole night to yourself."

"It's even more perfect!" Callie agreed.

"I booked a table at seven o'clock." Addison said, looking at the kitchen clock. "So, we still have some time before we have to go."

"Girls," I suggested, "I'm going to go upstairs and pack our bags. You stay there. I know you two like to chat."

"But you can stay with us!" Callie said.

"Don't worry Callie," I insisted, "I'm going to go and pack our bags, then I'm going to call Nicole to see how the center is doing and then I'm going to call the kids to see if they're okay."

"Will you tell them I love them?" Callie asked.

"Of course I'll tell them that their moms love them." I said before kissing her and taking our bags upstairs. "That's the most important thing I have to tell them."

"And also tell them that Aunt Addi loves them." Addison added.

"Obviously."

Addison's POV

"So, how are you doing?" I asked once Arizona was upstairs.

"It's going great. Even though we both work a lot, we have really found a balance between our jobs, the kids and our marriage. We try to go to the Hamptons regularly to recharge in nature and spend enough time with our kids."

"How are they doing?"

"Sofia is really good, she is very happy and fulfilled in her studies. She has met a lot of friends at her university."

"What is she studying?"

"English language, she dreams of becoming a journalist or literary critic. She writes really well!"

"Do you remember the summer she and Henry had a brief relationship?"

"Of course, they were really cute together. I remember this image of Henry taking her in his arms and holding her tight to warm her up because the water in the sea was too cold."

"Too bad it didn't last long, barely a month."

"Don't worry, they've become even better friends since then."

"Yeah, it's nice to see that our friendship has carried over to the next generation, that our kids are still friends."

"I agree."

"And how is Will, my favorite godson?"

"He is doing very well. He's a great kid, he's extremely funny, extremely cheerful and extremely caring."

"A future doctor, right?"

"I honestly have no idea. He will do what he wants to do. Nevertheless, it will please my father to know that one of his grandchildren is becoming a doctor and continuing the family legacy."

"Your father is not the kind of man to give up his ambitions."

"Don't worry, he is totally crazy about his grandchildren and for them, he is willing to let go. He knows that we only want to make sure that our children are happy."

We continued to talk about our lives and then Arizona picked us up to go to the restaurant. The evening went perfectly well and then I dropped the couple off at my house so they could finally be alone.

Arizona's POV

Once we were all alone at Addison's, we began by pouring ourselves a glass of wine and sitting on the couch. We drank our glasses quietly, she was in my arms and regularly we put our glasses down and kissed tenderly.

At one point, Callie put both her hands on my cheeks, turned my head so I could look at her, kissed me gently and then placed a kiss on my forehead.

"I thank you, sweetheart." This beautiful woman said.

"What are you thanking me for?"

"For being a wonderful woman. You've made me happy for almost 23 years now, I couldn't have imagined that the night you kissed me in the bathroom at Joe's."

"At that time, I only thought I was capable of having one-night stands but you made me change, baby."

"You made me change too. You made me happy."

"I only want this deep feeling of love that we have for each other to last forever."

"It will last forever. I promise you that."

After making an unspoken agreement to do everything to make our love last for eternity, we kissed tenderly.

"Now I'd like us to go up to the room because I have a project I need your help with."

"What is it about?"

"To show you how much I love you."

"This is a project I fully support."

We went upstairs and spent the night showing each other love.

Callie's POV

After seven days of perfect happiness together, we decided to return home to our children and live out our happiness with them by going to the Hamptons. On the first night, Arizona offered to make us a nice dinner so that the four of us could have a good time. We all sat down to a delicious meal.

"Well," I asked, "how did it go in Florida?"

"It was awesome." William began to relate to us. "We spent our days playing in the pool of Abuelo and Abuela. It was great fun, Abuelo even taught me how to dive."

"You can show us your progress tomorrow." I suggested. "We'll go to the harbor in the afternoon, and you can dive from the dock. Afterwards, we'll go out for grilled fish together."

"That's a great idea." Arizona answered.

"With Abuelo," Sofia continued to tell us, "we made Mexican food and we both went to lunch with some of his Mexican friends. I even spoke Spanish with one of his old friends. He told me I had a good accent."

"I am proud of you, honey." I congratulated her. "Our short life in Barcelona has definitely been useful."

We laughed happily.

"Do you like the meal?" Arizona asked us.

"It's delicious, Mom." Sofia complimented her.

"By way of dessert," proposed Arizona, "I propose that we eat ice cream on the terrace in front of the sea."

They all nodded happily before preparing pots of ice cream and setting us all on the terrace.

Sofia's POV

It was really a perfect vacation. The four of us were so happy. I was lucky to have such a great family. Even though it had been a long and complicated process with many pitfalls, we had finally all managed to find our balance and be happy.

We were eating ice cream and looking at the ocean and everything was peaceful. My two moms were holding each other, and they were holding William.

Once we had all finished eating our bowl of ice cream, I suggested that my brother go watch a movie while Mom and Mama went to stay on the patio and be together.

"Good night you two," I said to them as I went inside the house, "I love you."

"I love you too," Will added.

"We love you back," my two moms concluded, "we love you kids. We will always love you."
