Needing to make sure he wouldn't get in trouble with his Aunt for helping Rose and to protect his cover, Draco wrote to her.
"Aunt Bellatrix,
You might not know this yet but news will soon reach your ears, the Daily Prophet might write about it soon, if not, student will surely tell their parents about this anyway. A 7th year Slytherin, Montague, attacked Rose Potter in the girl's bathroom today. He almost killed her, pretended he wanted to do it to please Our Lord, be marked and sit by his side. When it happened, I happened to walk by, and I wasn't alone.
I had to act fast and Neville Longbottom, a friend she has in common with her brother and Hermione, was there, so I helped him save Rose.
I hope The Dark Lord won't be angry with me. I had to decide quickly on what to do and how to act.
Montague was interrogated under truth potion by Dumbledore himself and they trust me so much that they allowed me to be present when it happened, though I was hidden, so Montague doesn't have any idea that I was present.
Potter even thanked me.
I hope you won't be angry with me, I believed I was doing the right thing for my plan. I have to think of the long run, not just now.
Draco."
The next day, he received an answer. Once again, she had been fast. It didn't surprise him, she was a fugitive, so she couldn't go out and there wasn't that much for her to do. Plus, his plan and his letter allowed her to spend more time with HIM, which she loved doing.
"Draco,
You did the right thing, not only they'll trust you more, but you pleased the Lord. He wants to kill both Potter twins himself for important reasons you'll learn this summer, once you're marked. Now she'll be grateful that you helped save her, they all will.
Don't brag though, it would make them suspicious. Once again, you make us proud, nephew.
Keep up the good work.
One day soon, you'll sit by His side.
Your proud Aunt Bellatrix."
Not wasting a minute, Draco took the letter to Sirius, pretending that he was asking for news of Rose. He wanted them to know that, in a way, Harry and Rose were safe, as long as Voldemort was far, because he wanted to kill them both by himself. He felt like it was an important detail and Sirius seemed to read more into it because he called Dumbledore and showed him the letter. The headmaster looked grave, stated that he had hoped to be wrong on this one and left.
.
Rose didn't wake up until three days later, and when she did, she saw Fred sitting on a chair by her side. He was reading her History of Magic book to her and didn't notice she was awake immediately. Rose couldn't help but notice that he looked very tired. She could see a lot of flowers, chocolates and cards in her room. Obviously people knew what had happened to her.
"Hey Freddie." She whispered, unable to speak louder for the moment.
"Rose! Finally! You had us all so worried Love!" he exclaimed, dropping the book on the floor and rushing to hug and kiss her.
"How long..." She asked, feeling still tired and weak.
"Three days... Hang on, I'll warn Miss Pomfrey. I think she still wants you to take some potions, especially now that you're awake. I'll warn your brother and everyone else that you're awake while she checks you up." he replied, kissing her once more before he left the room, soon replaced by the kind nurse.
For the past few months, he and other students had trained to create a Patronus and so Fred cast his Patronus to send him running first in Sirius' apartment where Harry and the other were, then to Dumbledore's office. The others would find out later. Already he could see paintings leaving their portraits to go spread the news all around.
His Patronus didn't need to speak, since it was the agreed sign, nobody would think it normal to see a silver ghostly fox running around the castle, especially when there was no trace of Dementors around.
"I called Remus, he'll be here in about 30 minutes. He was in Hogsmeade with Tonks anyway." Sirius announced.
"Ron and Hermione stayed back to warn the others, since we probably won't be able to all see her at the same time anyway. They'll come here later." Harry replied.
"Miss Pomfrey's with her. She seemed to have a hard time speaking though." Fred spoke, looking relieved.
"That's understandable, she probably tried to cry out, and call for help. The mute curse on her prevented her from doing so and she probably tried even harder." Dumbledore nodded.
"She'll be tired and need to stay here at least a week. I'm afraid her Easter Break won't be a very fun one. I've just given her a few more potions. I won't force her to take dreamless sleep potion, but I've warned her that I'd keep some available for her, should she need it." Miss Pomfrey explained before she let them all back inside.
Slowly, quietly, they walked in the room, happy to see Rose awake but noticing that she still looked very pale and obviously didn't have the strength to sit up.
"Hey Rosie, how are you feeling little sister?" Harry asked her, speaking before the others while Fred went back by her side and took hold of her hand in his.
"Exhausted, I still ache all over but Miss Pomfrey told me that it would pass in a couple of days... I... What happened to... him?" She replied, speaking in a small voice.
"Mister Montague, the 7th year Slytherin who attacked you, was caught thanks to Mister Malfoy and Mister Longbottom. We interrogated him and he was sent to the Ministry of magic, where he was judged 2 days ago in an emergency trial. He was sent to Azkaban." Dumbledore replied.
"It was in the Daily Prophet, I kept the issue in case you want to read it. There's a pretty complete retelling of his trial and of what happened to you." Sirius added and she nodded.
"How is Neville doing?" Rose asked and it made Fred and the other chuckle.
"Of course you'd be worried about him... He's angry, feeling guilty for not intervening sooner. They mentioned his intervention in the Daily Prophet and Dumbledore wrote to his grandmother telling her everything he did. His grandmother was quite proud of him and told him so in a letter, telling him he was finally living up to his father's name." Harry replied.
"What about Draco? It's not going to ruin his plan, right?" She asked again.
"No, don't worry. He wrote to his Aunt, explaining that he intervened not only because someone else was present and others were coming, but also because he hadn't heard anything about Voldemort's wishes concerning you. She answered just this morning that he did the right thing, that we'd trust him more now." Dumbledore explained.
"I'm sorry... I... I didn't have time to fight back and I felt so tired... My head started to spin too..." Rose whispered, tears in her eyes and she was immediately hugged by Fred and Harry.
"He planned everything for a while, he told us that he had been waiting for the right opportunity for weeks... He said that he even had a plan to get you to leave the common room if you didn't leave on your own, he would have sent a younger Slytherin student to get you, say they needed your help with homework... Despicable behavior... Anyway, I need to go, warn the Ministry of Magic that you're awake. Remus should arrive any minute anyway. Rest well, Rose." Dumbledore told the youngest Potter twin before he left the room.
"I... I need to know if... Are there others, from his house, who think like he does?" Rose asked shyly.
"We doubt it. Most of the others won't act while in school, and especially not without having received orders from Voldemort first. And the letter Draco received from his aunt confirms that Voldemort doesn't want anyone to act against you yet. He doesn't want to take any risks when it comes to the prophecy, especially since he doesn't know it fully. Now that you're alive, he believes that he should kill you and Harry himself. In a way, this protects you." Sirius reassured her just when Remus arrived, looking like he had run there.
"Rose! Thank Merlin you're awake! I was so worried!" Remus said as he rushed to hug her close to his heart.
"Yes, he got at least 2 grey hair because of your attack." Sirius joked to lighten the mood, making Rose chuckle as she hugged Remus back.
"You and your obsession with hair!" Remus rolled his eyes.
"Hey! That's not true! James was worst than me!" Sirius protested.
"James was never late to every class of the day, giving each the excuse that 'it was a very bad hair day'. I remember that day, we were in 6th year and you rushed to the bathroom between each class to dress your hair because you didn't like the way they ended up falling." Remus teased his best friend back.
"Yes well, I'm still convince someone cursed my hair that day, because it really was a bad hair day!" Sirius affirmed.
"Where you with Tonks then?" Rose asked Remus.
"Of course. She's worried too. She'll probably visit as soon as her shift is over." he replied.
A while later, Rose found herself alone with Fred. Harry had gone to warn Dudley that Rose was awake but that she wouldn't be able to call him before a few more days because she had trouble speaking in a loud voice and his cousin understood.
Dudley had told his parents about Rose's attack and Harry had been surprised to see that, along with Dudley's get well card, there was another from their aunt Petunia, asking for some news and whishing them both the best. It was new but it gave Harry hope. If the Dursleys could change and become better people, at least to him, then there was hope for everyone.
Well, maybe not Voldemort.
"If I've been sleeping three days, then your birthday was yesterday, right? I missed it?" Rose asked her boyfriend.
"Yes, we're the 2nd of April. Don't worry about it, you being awake and well if the best birthday present I could ask for." he nodded.
"Happy birthday then. I have a present for you and your brother, I'll ask Hermione or Ginny to get it and give it to you as soon as I see them." Rose told him before she kissed him.
"Thank you Love, but you don't have to worry about that. My birthday is definitely not a priority right now." He smiled.
"It is to me." She insisted and he let it go, because, at the moment, her happiness was all that mattered to him.
.
The rest of Easter break was spent in the infirmary for Rose, but she was never alone. There was always at least one of her friends with her, even during meal time and she received visits from a lot of people. Even a few Slytherins who wanted her to know that they didn't approve of what had happened to her and who promised to keep an ear out from now on.
Hermione had gone to get Fred and George's birthday presents for Rose and instead of giving to them, she gave it to Rose who gave it to the Weasley twins when they both visited her. She had gotten them pyjamas. They were a dark blue, like the night sky, with stars that sparkled. When one of them snored, the stars shone brighter. If you farted, then shooting stars went everywhere. They loved it and found it very funny.
Hagrid visited her every day too, always finding something to speak about with her, especially since she loved rare creatures as well. She had come often to visit him since the beginning of the year and he enjoyed talking with her. She was a sweet girl and he felt protective of her. She had even helped him bake better cookies, explaining that his were always a bit hard and that it could always be better, but downplaying just how hard they truly were.
Myrtle visited her as well, she spent all the nights in the infirmary with Rose and the youngest Potter knew that she was feeling guilty for what had happened in her bathroom and that she was trying to make up for not being there sooner.
As long as she was in the infirmary, Rose was able to rest and, on the day before class started again, when she was allowed to leave with the promise not to over-do things for at least one more week, she realized that it wouldn't be easy to go back to normal.
Everyone knew what had happened to her, and though they didn't mention it to her, she knew that they talked about it behind her back and that it had consequences. Nobody went to the bathroom alone anymore and Slytherin students who had never tried to hid their allegiance to the Dark Lord where often glared at and ignored by other students.
Rose still reacted and jumped up in surprise when a sudden noise was heard around her, but she was getting better, slowly. The good point was that, when she was in the safety of the common room, she was able to pretend nothing had ever happened. Although Serenity had come back and rarely left her, feeling like Rose needed her presence to feel better.
"Are you okay Rose?" Ron asked her at the end of their first day back to class.
Everyone else was still out, talking to a teacher or in the Library.
"I'm fine, just tired..." She smiled.
"Maybe you shouldn't read this." He frowned, noticing that he was holding the issue of the Daily Prophet where her attack was announced, along with the details of the trial.
"I have to. I need to know." She replied seriously.
"Do you want me to get Harry or Fred here before you do?" He asked her again, wanting to make sure that someone would be able to help her if the article made her cry.
Rose was his best friend's sister, he liked her, she was one of his friends too, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to help her if she cried. He was kind of afraid of girls crying, he tended to freeze and didn't know what to do except petting them on the back awkwardly.
"I should be fine but... maybe." She nodded and Ron smiled, rushing to get someone.
Less than 10 minutes later, he was back with Fred and they found Rose, looking extremely serious, sitting in front of the fireplace, reading the article. She didn't skip a bit, read it from the first line to the last one. Fred didn't speak, he just sat by her side and wrapped her in his arms. She snuggled up to him and kept on reading. When she was done, she smiled faintly.
"You're alright my love?" he asked her sweetly.
"I am. He was punished. He got what he deserved. And since everything was written in here, everybody knows what he did, what he's capable of." She replied.
"I won't let anything else happen to you." He promised her in a whisper in her ear.
"I love you, Fred. Thank you for being by my side, always." She smiled.
"Always, Rose. Always." he replied, kissing her sweetly before they simply snuggled together.
I hope you liked it
Last chapter I asked you to try and guess who the 3 babies I planned would be, everyone guessed (easy, I know), about Teddy Lupin, son of Remus and Tonks. A lot wanted Sirius to father a child, sorry, not in my plans so far. While Fred and Rose are together, and endgame, they'll probably have children, but nothing planned so far. There are still 2 babies for you to guess (they're harder to find, I think you have to be in my head to figure them out. My sister might be able to guess, but she might be the only one)
review please?
