"She isn't a member yet." Professor Cerise explained.
"We decided that since you three would be working with her, the final vote would come down to you." Ren said.
"I'm guessing Ash is already a yes." Chrysa said with a laugh.
"As much as I'd like Serena to be part of the team, I'll agree with what Goh and Chloe choose, good or bad." Ash said. "I don't want there to be more problems in the group than there already is, if they don't like her. So what do you say guys?"
Three days had passed without much of a yay or nay from either Goh or Chloe. Both had chosen to wait for a proper mission to test out how Serena did. In the meantime Serena was staying at the Pokémon Center, and visiting often.
"So what're you doing today?" Chloe questioned, as Ash checked his closet.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Ash said.
"Please, you've spent every day with Serena since she got here, what's your big plan for today?" Chloe egged on.
"I don't know." Ash said, pulling out a skirt. "Serena picked the activity."
"Ooh, romantic." Chloe said. "Letting the guy think he still gets a choice."
"Hey, last I checked I am the guy." Ash said.
"You're wearing panties, a bra, and comparing three different skirts. You're not the guy." Chloe said. "Besides, I thought you hated skirts."
"This is different, with Serena, I guess it feels more natural?" Ash said, slightly confused. "Hold on, and tell me what you think."
A few minutes later, Ash came out of his bathroom, with a white flared skirt that ended above his knees, and a blue tank top that hung a little loose.
"Add it with the necklace from Olivia, and if you have some matching heels, add them." Chloe said with a giggle.
"Fine, maybe I'm not the guy in the relationship, but that doesn't mean I couldn't be." Ash pointed out, digging through his things.
"Okay sweetie, whatever you say." Chloe said.
"There we go." Ash said, tying his shoes.
"High tops?" Chloe said.
"Comfier than heels, besides if it was formal, Serena would've let me know, trust me." Ash said with confidence.
'Knock knock'
"Who is it?" Chloe asked.
"Good you two are in here, come to the lab quickly." Ren said.
"I'll text Serena." Ash said, grabbing his phone.
"Aren't you going to change?" Chloe asked.
"Hurry!" Rem shouted.
"I don't think so." Ash said, as they ran out of his room.
At the main lab
"So does anyone want to tell us why Ren looks like he's ready to pee himself?" Goh asked.
"Take a look at this." Ren said playing a video.
"It's Saffron City, what's so exciting about that?" Ash asked.
"Just wait." Ren said.
'Crash!'
"Guys we have a problem! Things are floating outside the city!" Serena shouted running in.
As if on cue, the video showed cars, tables, anything metal floating in the air before dropping them.
"A magnetic field over an entire city!" Ren said. "Think of the possibilities!"
"It looks like it's growing, could be bad for any equipment." Chloe said.
"Go in, find what's causing it and try and stop it. All four of you." Professor Cerise said.
Saffron City
"The chaos is getting more intense, what's the plan?" Chloe asked.
"Something like this is probably above ground, or it wouldn't be this strong." Goh said, dodging a sewer grate.
"Chloe! You and Serena look in Silph Co.! Goh we're going to look into the sky." Ash said grabbing a Pokeball. "Charizard! Let's go!"
"Golurk! I choose you!" Goh called out.
"Well, let's look in Silph Co.". Chloe said walking off.
"Umm, okay." Serena said, disappointed Ash didn't choose her.
In Silph Co
"I can assure you two, we are doing everything to try and find the cause of these pulses." A man said to Serena and Chloe.
"If it's the same with you, can we check around just in case?" Serena said.
"I'm afraid you can't be unescorted through the higher levels." The man said.
"Then find someone to take us through there." Chloe said.
"I can't do that, now I'm going to have to ask you two to leave." The man said, ushering them out.
"Something's definitely suspicious, there's something they don't want us to see." Chloe said.
"Then let's find a way in." Serena said.
"How, they'll just push us back out again." Chloe said.
"A building like this has to have a fire escape that gets to every floor. We just need to find it." Serena said.
As another magnetic pulse filled the city, a crash was heard, as they saw the fire escape float above the building.
"Found it." Chloe said, a bit stunned.
"Let's go, that's our best shot." Serena said, heading to the backside of the building.
In the sky
"Another wave, it's getting worse." Goh said, timing out the pulse.
"I'm not seeing anything! Maybe it's not in the air?" Ash said.
"Ash look out!" Goh shouted as an electrical pulse hit Ash and Charizard, sending them blasting off.
Back on the ground
"Worst idea ever." Chloe complained.
"Seriously? You work with Ash, and you're saying this is the worst idea you've seen." Serena said, surprised.
Pausing for a moment to think, Chloe shrugged saying, "Fair enough."
"Hold on. Look at that!" Serena said, peering into a window.
"Are those Magnemite?" Chloe asked, inside the window was a growing pile of Magnemite, slowly breaking through each floor going up.
"We need to get ready for them. We need to get to the roof." Serena said, continuing up.
"Shouldn't we fight them here?!" Chloe argued.
"How, there's no room in there. At least on the roof we'll have Ash and Goh for backup." Serena said.
Pewter City
"Ash? Is that you?" Flint asked, seeing Ash and Charizard on the remains of his shed.
"Oh, what hit us?" Ash asked, rubbing his head. "My team! I need to get back to them!"
"Ash, you fell through a steel shed, how are you going to be okay." Flint asked.
"I've survived worse, I need to get back there. Charizard let's go!" Ash said, climbing back on his Pokémon.
"Wait Brock wants to see you!" Flint shouted after Ash, but he was long gone.
Saffron City
"Golurk use Hyper Beam!"
"Delphox use Fire Blast!"
"Eevee use Copycat!"
The attacks hit the large group of Magnemite, as they rose into the sky.
"Where's Ash!" Serena shouted to Goh.
"No clue, he got blasted and was sent flying." Goh said. "Cinderace let's get some help."
"Delphox use Mystic Fire! Pancham use Stone Edge!"
"Eevee use Copycat! Koffing use Gyro Ball!"
"Cinderace use Pyro Ball! Golurk use Shadow Punch!"
The attacks momentarily shook the growing pile, but it kept rising and growing as more Magnemite were pulled in.
"CHARIZARD USE BLAST BURN!" Ash yelled, his eyes glowing. "That's for sending me all the way to Pewter!"
The immense fire seemed to do a fair bit of disruption as the Magnemite shifted around.
"Goh in the center! A Probopass!" Ash called out.
"What's the plan?" Goh asked as Ash landed.
"We give it everything we've got, and you catch it." Ash said grabbing his other pokeballs. "Everybody ready? Let's do this. Aim for one spot."
"Delphox use Fire Blast! Pancham use Stone Edge! Sylveon use Moonblast! Grookey use Bullet Seed!"
"Drizzile use Water Pulse! Cinderace use Pyro Ball! Golurk use Hyper Beam! Arctozolt use Ice Beam! Registeel use Flash Cannon! Aerodactyl use Ancient Power!"
"Eevee use Copycat! Ponyta use Confusion! Corvisquire use Air Slash!"
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt! Charizard use Blast Burn! Kingler use Bubblebeam! Muk use Mud Bomb! Snorlax use Hyper Beam!"
The shots hit in a large explosion giving Goh a small window to hit the Probopass.
"Alright! Pokeball go!" Goh shouted. "Cinderace course correction!"
Cinderace leaped up, striking the pokeball straight at Probopass.
"Everyone be ready, we might not be done." Ash warned.
What seemed like an eternity passed for the trainers, as they watched and waited for something. Slowly but surely the Magnemite dispersed, as a Pokeball fell from the center of them.
"Is this what it's like every day?" Serena asked Chloe.
"No, sometimes it gets weird." Chloe said with a laugh.
Back at the lab
"Good work today team." Professor Cerise said. "We're going to look into what brought the Probopass here, along with why it became overly magnetized."
"Hey Serena, you did great today." Chloe said. "When push came to shove, you didn't back down."
"I learned from Ash, thanks for sticking with me." Serena said. "Speaking of which, come on it's my turn to choose where we're going." Serena said turning to Ash.
At their date
"Sorry if you had something better planned than this." Ash said, pushing some hair from his eye.
"Nope, this was about it, but can we talk about what has happened." Serena said, handing Ash an ice cream cone.
"What do you mean?" Ash asked.
"You didn't say yes to me joining from the start, and then today, you didn't want me working side by side with you." Serena said. "Do you not want me here?"
"Of course I want you here. Look, if I said yes to you joining the team, Goh and Chloe's answers would be influenced by that. As for why I didn't take you into the sky, I only had Charizard, and you don't have a flying Pokémon. Goh has more than I care to count, and he always has at least one with him." Ash said. "I chose the teams based on what our strengths were, not our preferences."
"So, we're good?" Serena asked.
"I think so." Ash said. "Can I be serious with you about something though."
"What's wrong?" Serena said.
"Chloe pointed out, I'm not really the guy between the two of us." Ash said.
"So what? Does it bother you?" Serena said.
"I mean, I thought it would, but it doesn't, at least not with you." Ash said.
"Then it's your choice, if you don't want us labeled as boyfriend or girlfriend, we don't have to. And if you want to be the girlfriend, that's fine too." Serena said.
"And if I want to be the boyfriend?" Ash asked.
"Then you'd have to not wear a skirt on our next date." Serena said.
"Yeah, but you like me in them." Ash said with a smile.
"Too true." Serena replied.
