"Hey Daph… is Dominic still at work?" Ianto started the phone call to Angel's mother with a light hearted question, so the next one might not be a clanger.
"Uh-huh." He took a deep breath "Well… I was wondering when Angel had her implant last replaced?"
Silence.
"Daph? You know it has to be replaced annually right?" Ianto asked, his stomach in his slippers as he knew damned well it had not been replaced since its first insertion… what… two years ago?
"Oh dear, I need to get onto that."
"Well… it may be too late. She's not had her sanitary pads written down, I went back and she has not asked for any for at least four months. I get the terrible feeling she may be pregnant already." Ianto huffed.
"Oh my god! I thought they were chaste!" she squealed.
"Are you mad? They are two adults that are married and in the same bed each night. Two adults that have access to the internet, literature… are well aware of what sex is and like any healthy adult… dabbles" Ianto was angry now "We discussed this. You and your husband were the ones that did not want the marriage because you feared this, made it a stipulation that she be on birth control that was beyond her own control. You set that rule and she agreed to please you. Just like she knew damned well it had to be replaced as it wore out. Did she remind you? Say anything? No. I guess they have decided what is happening next and right now all we can do is support them."
"It may not be too late. If we get her checked out we might be able to book her in and simply…"
"Are you about to say something that I will never forgive you for?" Ianto cut her off "Because if you suggest an abortion I may be very angry with you. This is not your decision, not mine. It is theirs. The two consensual adults married to one another, it is for them to decide their steps."
"And if it is a baby? What then?"
"Then we roll with it" Ianto sighed "I am sorry that this is upsetting g for you, this is not the most ideal thing for me either but there ya go. Your daughter, you insisted it be your responsibility so if this is what I think it is… I don't think you really have any come back, do you?"
The silence was telling and Ianto knew he had put her on the back foot.
If Angel is pregnant he did not need that woman upsetting everyone.
After all... he was damned sure she knew what she was doing when she did not tell her mother about the appointments her doctor would have surely been texting her about for that bloody implant.
Angel had done this.
She wanted to be a mummy.
