Rebekah stays with her in the bathroom long enough for Elena to take a second test to confirm the impossibility of her situation. They don't talk much and Rebekah isn't exactly comforting, but it's the longest amount of time they've spent together without either of them yelling or walking off. She's grateful for the shared silence even if she doesn't express it to Rebekah.

Klaus comes to bed with blue paint stuck under his nails. He's exhausted, having spent all day working on his secret project. He's asleep before she has the chance to blurt out the news. The next morning, he's back in his studio before she's awake.

Rebekah had coerced Elijah into taking her into town and Kol had opted to join them leaving her with an accusation of how boring she was before they left. Finn had assured her she wasn't boring even though her big plan for the day was to learn chess with him while keeping an eye on the hallway, waiting for Klaus to come out.

"You seem distracted, Elena. Are you regretting not joining my siblings for their outing?"

"Not all. I'm having fun here with you."

"You keep glancing at the hallway. Waiting for Niklaus to appear? It may be some time before he comes out of his room. He tends to become obsessed easily, particularly when inspiration hits him." His next move takes out her queen again and they re-start the board.

Eventually she gets tired of chess and Finn wanders off to his room, the rain rhythmically hitting the windows makes them both tired of company, seeking out their own reverie. She's flipping through pages of a book she's read dozens of time when Klaus finally leaves his studio.

"Are you so bored without me, love?" he smirks at her with his crooked grin.

"No, I was just playing chess with Finn not that long ago."

"Well, that explains why it feels like the air has been sucked out of the room." He sits on the couch next to her, propping his arm up on the top of the cushion.

"He's actually interesting to talk to if you gave him a chance."

"If you insist."

"Hey, do you have a little time for me?" She leans into his side, curling her feet under her legs.

"For you? I have the world."

It's nice to have a moment alone with him. The house has been so busy ever since they woke up all three of his siblings at once, a decision she only occasionally regrets. She enjoys the presence of his family, but is also nostalgic for the rainy days she spent alone with him in London.

"So, I've been feeling a little off lately. And the other day, I took a test." The front door slams and punctuates her sentence for her. When Rebekah appears around the corner, Elena can tell she's been crying.

"You made him forget about me," she accuses. "I can't believe you!"

Klaus looks panicked and Elena nearly falls off the couch when he stands up, blocking her line of sight to Rebekah. "Not here."

"Oh why not? Scared of what she might think? Afraid she won't love you anymore if she finds out how truly terrible you are to those you claim to love?"

"Don't make me repeat myself, Rebekah."

"Or what, Nik? You can't compel me. The only threat you have against me are the daggers Elijah have hidden away."

Elena finds her balance and stands next to Klaus. Unconsciously, she's gripping the back of his shirt. There is something about the wild look in Rebekah's eyes that have her worried she might spill her secret in an effort to burn down the entire house.

"It's not fair, Nik. Time after time, you ruin my happiness and yet allow it for yourself?"

"This is different, Rebekah. I did it to cover our tracks. To keep us safe."

"I could have ran with him." Her voice softens, but then she looks back to her brother and Elena at his back. "But you couldn't stand that I could leave you. You can't stand that anyone could dare leave you!" Her tone is rising again. "Will she stay with you? When she learns that you've been keeping this from her all along?"

"Rebekah!"

"Nik and I knew Stefan. In Chicago. In the 20s. He's known him this entire time, Elena. They were best friends. And we were in love. But Nik made him forget about all of it." Rebekah turns and storms out of the room like a blond thunderstorm, leaving a crack exposed between Elena and Klaus. He takes a step to follow her, but Elena still has a hold on his shirt stopping him.

"What…what did she mean? You've known Stefan? This entire time? You knew him before me?" Her words trail off and start again like shaky lines on a sketchpad. She's lost in all the weird moments he'd had with Stefan she had explained away as romantic jealousy. Perhaps there had been some of that, but the truth was deeper. "Why did you lie?"

"I didn't want further complications, love. We were never meant to stay here and I thought simple was better." He keeps glancing at the open door where Rebekah had just been.

"Our life was always going to be complicated, Klaus. No. You wanted control. To keep me in the dark? Why are you still hiding from me?"

"Elena, love, I have to go make sure Rebekah isn't going to do anything drastic or damaging."

"We aren't done talking about this."

"I realize that, sweetheart."

He leaves her in his attempt to escape her questions and find his sister to stop her potential for destruction in its path. Kol and Elijah walk in and explain their run-in with Stefan. How desperately Rebekah had tried to get him to remember her. How angry she was to see Caroline on his arm. Elijah offers to sit with her but she waves him off.

She sits alone, typing and erasing different variations of the same message to Bonnie. She needs to talk about this with someone, but she isn't sure her friend is the right choice in this moment. Some truths change things forever. Maybe she could forgive Klaus after this, but it would taint Bonnie's opinion forever.

She doesn't have long to think about it though, because Rebekah reappears without Klaus.

"I need to go shopping," she announces and Elena looks around like there is someone else in the room she could be talking to. "Well, Elijah won't let us drive yet and you're my only option right now."

"What about Klaus?"

"I gave him a dose of his own medicine. Don't worry, it won't keep him under long. So, we should probably hurry before he comes around." Elena doesn't move and Rebekah huffs. "You owe me! I've kept your little secret."

This inspires movement and soon the two women are in the car driving a few towns over to an actual mall instead of the small, stuffy boutiques that Mystic Falls offers. At first, Elena worries that it might have been a mistake. Rebekah looks overwhelmed but very quickly she smiles. "It's massive."

Rebekah takes a liking to the flashy dresses and outfits and especially the ability to easily boss the salesperson around. She twirls and shows off for Elena with each change. She invents different backstories of the person who is wearing each outfit. Elena laughs along with Rebekah's imagination and to anyone on the outside they look like friends.

"Is this in fashion?" she asks, modeling a burgundy jacket.

"I don't think a girl like you could ever be out of fashion." The blonde pauses and her eyes squint trying to figure out what she means. "You're beautiful, Rebekah. A girl like you sets trends." She turns away to hide her pleased smile from Elena.

"Will you pay for this?" Rebekah asks, gesturing to the counter piled with clothes. After Elena hesitates she continues, "It's really the least you could do. You've stolen my necklace, my boyfriend and now my brother."

"I don't know how fair that is."

"I am not one to play fair, Elena. None of us are."

After Rebekah has her fill of shopping and they have enough bags between them to build a fort, Elena looks up movie times at a discount theater on the way home. The rain still hasn't let up and the two women huddle together under Elena's small umbrella and dash inside the cinema.

"I think you'll like this one. It's older, but really good. It's about a girl who goes away with her family on vacation and she falls in love, but it's kind of about her finding herself," Elena explains as they stand in the line for concessions. Rebekah picks out more food than Elena thinks is possible to eat and after shopping, Elena has learned that she doesn't like to limit herself in any way. It's a trait she admires, because Elena too often limits herself with no rhyme or reason.

Rebekah is entranced with the movie, particularly the love story and how the main character stands up to her father. Afterwards, while driving home, she demands to make this a weekly ritual.

"You are more fun than I thought you capable. But this doesn't mean that I like you."

"Yeah, I figured as much," Elena responds smiling. Rebekah turns up her music and Elena spends the rest of the drive home listening to Rebekah hum along to the songs. It's late when they make it back to the mansion, but a single light is on and Elena can guess that it's Klaus waiting for her.

They walk in on Klaus, drink in hand, standing in the foyer between the two staircases. His face is set in stone and he doesn't move to offer them help as they struggle to bring the bags inside.

"Have you two made up? Magically bonded over a little shopping spree? Wonderful thing, technology. I get a text alert when you use my card, Elena."

Rebekah drops her bags and marches up to her brother, pointing her finger at her chest. "You will not put us in the corner, Nik." She walks away to her bedroom, throwing her hair over her shoulder.

"Guess she'll bring her clothes up to her room in the morning." Elena sets down the rest of the bags by the front door and readjusts the purse strap on her shoulder.

"What the hell is she going on about?"

"I took her to see a movie after we went shopping," she replies, like it actually answers his question.

She's getting ready for bed, her hair up in a messy bun when he leans on the bathroom counter next to her. "Are you two friends now?" he asks, clearly the question was burning in his head since they walked in together. She doesn't realize, but each connection she establishes with his family makes him feel like theirs grow weaker. He wants to be the only sun burning in her sky.

"Maybe on the road to it? So, you and Stefan? Friends?"

"Yes, he was like a brother to me a long time ago."

"Why keep this from me? What were you afraid of?"

"I don't want to live in the past with you. I like how you see me now and I can't bear to see that changed. I won't allow it."

"If you keep hiding the past, making it this big secret, then it will. You have to trust me. Trust that I'm sticking this out with you."

"Show me." It sounds like a command, but there are begging undertones to it. Later they will talk about his time with Stefan. He'll tell her every detail including the ones that make her squeamish. For now, he is an imploding star as he pulls her close and into his orbit. He trails kisses down her neck to her collarbone like the tail of a comet and she forgets all about their conversation earlier. With his mouth on her, she thinks he has the power to make her forget to breathe if he wanted.

He picks her up and swivels around, knocking off her bottles to set her down on the counter. She shivers between the cold of the marble and Klaus's heat on her lips. His hands grip her thighs and she struggles to undo his belt buckle. He stops her suddenly and his voice comes out husky with desire. "Let me take my time." So, she does.

His kisses linger on her skin in the hollow above where her hip bone juts out and up the line of her stomach to her breasts. He works to make her need for him mount higher, her legs wrapping tight to his hips. He enjoys teasing her, making her want him. She's been spending so much time getting his family acclimated lately that he's enjoying being her sole focus. He reclaims her from them in a way only he can, scoring her with his teeth and soothing her with his lips.

Klaus tortures her all night, bringing her to a peak and then slowing his pace. She wonders how he can manage to keep this up when he turns her over on her stomach. She raises her hips just enough to meet him and moans when she feels his cock. He's hard and eager, sliding himself between her legs. Up until now, Elena has been able to hold her moans low in throat. Klaus takes this as a challenge as the thrusts inside her, slick and ready.

He's delighted when she finally screams out his name, a sound he'll never tire of. It seems to be what he needs to let himself go and soon he loses his steady rhythm when she tells him she's close. Like always, he chases after her like he has been since the day they met.

A/N: The smutty scenes are definitely harder than I thought they'd be when I first started writing. It's a balance between too much and not enough. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter. I especially liked writing for Rebekah. She's so much fun. Next chapter - Elena finally tells Klaus. Until then, catch me over on tumblr.
