Chapter 52: Baby Nursery
It's the first week of October, meaning that May is 29 weeks pregnant.
Drew is on his throne, ruling alone like he has been doing for the past month. May entered the Throne Room and smiled at Drew. Drew smiled back and internally questioned if there's a problem that May has, and she needs help with.
May walked up the stairs and stood in front of Drew. "Drew, do you have a minute?"
"I always have time for you." Drew said.
"Great!" She said excitedly. "There's a room that I'd like to show you."
"A room? Haven't I seen the whole castle by now?"
"Yes, but what I mean is...I want us to turn a room into a nursery!" She said happily.
"I think that's a great idea." Drew said. "Do you know which room?"
May nodded and then took Drew's hand. "Come on! Come on!" She pulled Drew's hand toward her.
"Okay, okay." Drew said, standing up. "I'm coming." They walked down the stairs. "No need to rush things. You need to be careful."
May slowed down. She smiled at Drew before facing forward again. "You know best, so I'll listen to what you say I can and can't do."
Drew smiled. "Having a nursery for our baby is a really good idea. Do you think that she'll like being spoiled and living in a castle?"
"I sure hope so. It will take time to adjust to it like you did, but we're gonna make sure that she loves it here."
May and Drew are in the room right across the hall from theirs. "Wow…" Drew said, looking around. "This really is the perfect room for a nursery. There's tons of room for all of the baby's things."
"Yeah. And right across from us too." May said. "It's perfect."
"Well then. I think it's time to make us a nursery." Drew said, pulling out his sword and keeping it in its sheath. "I'll teleport the things we need from the store, making sure to pay for them too. And you tell me what to get and where we'll put them. You have an eye for design."
May giggled. "I sure do." She walked over to the bed that was in the room to begin with, sitting down on it. There's also a walk-in closet, bathroom, lounge area, TV, rug, and nightstand just like in May and Drew's room. "Alright. Let's start by removing some things from this room."
"I'm on it. Teleport." Drew's jewel of honesty glowed and the nightstand disappeared. It reappeared in a different guest room. Drew then teleported the couches and chairs to different rooms as well, leaving the wall TV and rug.
"Great! Now let's get some baby furniture. And make sure it's cute."
Drew looked at May. "I think you'll be the judge of that."
"Kay kay." May said, giggling.
Drew faced forward, smiling. He stayed like that for a while before looking around the room. All of this...thinking about starting a family with May...raising a child which is a sign of how much they love each other...It's all so breathtaking. And in a couple of months...it'll all become a reality. A life like what he's dreamt about. Sharing his happiness with the people he loves.
(This song is "A Million Dreams" from The Greatest Showman.)
Drew continued to look around the room with a smile. "I close my eyes and I can see the world that's waiting up for me that I call my own. Through the dark, through the door, through where no one's been before, but it feels like home."
Drew looked at May who just smiled at him. "Crib." She said.
"They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy." Drew sang, channeling the magic in his sword. "They can say, they can say I've lost my mind." Two different baby cribs appeared to both sides of Drew for May to choose from. "I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy." May thought for a bit before pointing at the crib on the right. "We can live in a world that we design." Drew sent the other crib back to the store and left money in a cash register for the chosen crib.
"'Cause every night I lie in bed." He continued. May told him the next item to get. "The brightest colors fill my head." Drew made a black and pink stroller appear in the corner. "A million dreams are keeping me awake. I think of what the world could be." He teleported a bunch of soft baby blankets to the spot next to May, and she started looking through them for the best ones. "A vision of the one I see. A million dreams is all it's gonna take. Oh, a million dreams for the world we're gonna make."
May picked out three of the blankets and Drew teleported the rest back to the store. "There's a house we can build. Every room inside is filled with things from far away." He sang and teleported a car seat to the room on May's request. "The special things I compile." Some packs of diapers appeared in the corner. "Each one there to make you smile." He teleported two packs of three bottles next to May. "On a rainy day…"
"They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy." May told Drew to get clothing next, so he teleported a ton of baby dresses, onesies, socks, shirts, and pants to May. May just stared at all the clothes in shock of how much Drew teleported. "They can say, they can say we've lost our minds." May looked at Drew who just shrugged. May smiled and started looking through the clothes. "I don't care, I don't care if they call us crazy. Runaway to a world that we design."
"Every night I lie in bed." Drew sang. "The brightest colors fill my head. A million dreams are keeping me awake." While May is still looking through the clothes, Drew teleported a box of formula to the bed with the bottles. "I think of what the world could be." He added packages of baby wipes to the room. "A vision of the one I see." He teleported diaper cream as well. "A million dreams is all it's gonna take." He got a pink diaper bag too. "Oh, a million dreams for the world we're gonna make."
May signaled with her hands the clothes that they won't be getting and Drew teleported them back. "However big, however small, let me be part of it all." May sang, standing up. "Share your dreams with me." She walked closer to Drew. "You may be right, you may be wrong." Drew put his sword away and took her hand. "But say that you'll bring me along. To the world you see."
"To the world I close my eyes to see." They sang together. He twirled May. "I close my eyes to see."
"Every night I lie in bed." Drew sang. "The brightest colors fill my head."
"A million dreams are keeping me awake." May sang.
"A million dreams, a million dreams."
"I think of what the world could be." They sang together as Drew brushed May's cheek, tucking strands of hair behind her ear. "A vision of the one I see. A million dreams is all it's gonna take. A million dreams for the world we're gonna make…"
"...for the world we're gonna make." They finished the song together softly. Drew leaned in closer and kissed May, backing away slowly. They smiled, staring into each other's eyes.
"We're not done yet." May said.
"Right. What's next?" Drew asked.
"Bath supplies."
"On it." Drew backed away from May and pulled out his sword, keeping it in the sheath. "Teleport." A pink dolphin baby bathtub, baby shampoo and body wash, and baby towels all appeared in one area of the room.
"Nice." May said. "Let's see...how about getting a high chair?"
At that moment, a pink one appeared.
May smiled. "That was fast. How about...pacifiers?" A pack of three pacifiers appeared on the bed. "And now...toys!"
Drew finished levitating everything to the spots that May wanted them at. They looked around the room. "Wow...it's so cute!" May said.
"You did a good job with the placement of everything." Drew said. "It looks perfect."
"Mm hm." May paused for a moment before looking at Drew. "Hey Drew, do you have any name ideas?"
Drew looked at May. "It's time to think of the name?"
May nodded. "I want her to have a unique and beautiful name...like she will be."
"Alright then. How about naming her after a flower too? Flowers could be beautiful names."
"And flowers are beautiful." May added. She smiled. "I like that idea. What flower should we do?"
"Let's see." Drew pulled out his phone and went to Google. He searched 'List of flowers'.
Drew clicked on a website that gives him a long list of different flowers. May looked over at Drew's phone. He started scrolling down while reading each of the names of the flowers in his head.
"Ooh. What about that one?" May asked. Drew stopped and let May tap his phone screen.
"Amaryllis?" Drew questioned. "That's a pretty flower."
"I think it's perfect. What do you think?" May asked, looking at Drew's eyes.
Drew smiled at May. "It's the right name since it's unique and beautiful. I like it."
"Okay then. Amaryllis it is!" May said happily. Drew put his phone away. May faced forward and placed both arms over her stomach. She exhaled. "Having a baby will be stressful…" she paused. "But I love that I can start a family with you. I hope we can handle raising a baby while still making time to rule over the kingdom."
Drew walked behind May and wrapped his arms around her, placing his hands over May's on her stomach. He leaned his head down to the left side of May's head. "We can do anything...as long as we're together."
May smiled and turned around to face Drew as their hands dropped to their sides.
"We're always better together, right?" Drew asked. May nodded.
(This song is "Better Together" from Austin & Ally.)
Drew took May's hand. "Sometimes, I get in my own way. I need someone to say, 'Hey, what are you thinking?' Your words, they're always just in time. Just like a perfect rhyme. Like, you're not even trying."
"Like pieces of a puzzle." He continued. "Without each other, we're in trouble, trouble."
"Hey, I will always stay by your side forever. Drew sang. "'Cause we're better together. Hey, there's no other way. We'll make it through whatever. 'Cause we're better together."
Drew twirled May and then took her other hand. "Remind me when I'm losing touch. When I'm a little much. Pull me back to reality. You keep my feet on the ground. 'Cause when you're not around, I feel I am floating."
"Like pieces of a puzzle." He continued. "Without each other, we're in trouble, trouble."
"Hey, I will always stay by your side forever. Drew sang. "'Cause we're better together. Hey, there's no other way. We'll make it through whatever. 'Cause we're better together."
"Like the waves need the sand to crash on." He continued. "Like the sun needs a world to shine on. You're the bright side of every day. Me without you just isn't the same. It's not the same. Better, We're better. Oh-oh. We're better together."
"Hey, I will always stay by your side forever. Drew sang and twirled May. "'Cause we're better together. Hey, there's no other way. We'll make it through whatever." He twirled May the other way. "'Cause we're better together."
"Hey, I will always stay by your side forever. Drew sang. "'Cause we're better together. Hey, there's no other way. We'll make it through whatever. 'Cause we're better together." He finished the song.
May smiled and wrapped her arms around Drew's neck. Drew's hands went to her waist.
After a moment, May started giggling.
"Why are you giggling?" Drew asked.
May pulled away from Drew and placed her hands on her stomach. "When we hugged, Amaryllis started to kick again. I think she knows that I was hugging her father."
Drew smiled. "She's smart."
May giggled again. "Just like her father."
