A/N: Hi minna! I've been seeing cute puppies and kittens nowadays so I recalled Cerberus and missed his appearance in this fanfic so I decided it's high time for him to be back.
Kekeke. First commenter goes to you again TalithaSapph. Here's another chapter to satiate the HiruMamo hunger. I'll be awaiting more comments before I uploading about four or five more chapters so I could reply. Kekeke. Look forward to it.
Chapter 53: Back Home
It had been tough for Cerberus the past months. Due to his injury, he had to stay indoors for quite a while and since he constantly needed medical attention, he had to stay at the vet's place. The vet did take him out on short walks but he was used to running with the football team.
Mamori and Hiruma did go and visit every now and then. And Mamori often dropped by to give him treats so he wouldn't be lonely. Yet, it was quite obvious that Cerberus was getting annoyed at the fact that he was not able to tag along with them like he usually does. There was one time when they couldn't visit for a week due to a training camp and Cerberus totally ignored them when they finally went to see him. Even when Mamori was giving him his beloved treat, Cerberus just continued lying down as if he was asleep. He just gave a low gruff as if grumbling that she couldn't bribe him.
"Why! This mutt-" Hiruma got irritated.
"Hiruma-kun!" Mamori stopped him before he could utter mean things. "You must have been lonely neh?" she picked Cerberus up and settled him on her lap like he was some stuffed toy. The vet couldn't help but think that she's stronger than she looks.
"Tch. Don't make him soft," Hiruma grumbled. But he petted Cerberus and said "Get well already dumb mutt. I found a good hunting ground; we will go when you can run again. Kekeke. If you keep lazing around I'll leave you behind."
Cerberus eyes changed at what he said. Mamori didn't know what exactly that hunting ground meant but Cerberus seemed excited. She just hoped they were not hunting people; who knows if Hiruma was talking about letting Cerberus scare people again.
After that, Mamori dropped by everyday to make-up for their absence. Thankfully, today which was Saturday, they would finally take him home since he had finally recovered enough to walk around and run. She smiled and gently petted Cerberus. He had instantly bolted to the door when he saw her. "Yosh yosh, don't be reckless now," Mamori chided. She saw five little puppies running after Cerberus and they were all barking at her.
"Ara, so cute. They can run faster and bark louder now." She couldn't help but want to take them home as well but Hiruma would surely be annoyed and complain about the noise and the mess. Moreover, those cute little puppies were owned by the vet since the mom was hers. One stumbled and whimpered as it got left behind and Cerberus nudged him up and growled as if already telling the pups to be tough like him. The little puppy then ran after its siblings and they all barked at her as if asking for treats. She petted them all and picked up the last one to arrive. This made the other puppies jealous so she ended up picking them up one after the other.
"You're blocking the way," Hiruma grumbled behind her but she just ignored him. Cerberus barked at him, getting his attention. "Ho ready to go hunting?" he asked and Cerberus barked excitedly. "Kekeke. That's the spirit!"
The vet invited them for lunch so they stayed awhile as they discussed Cerberus' recovery. Cerberus' legs were fine now but he needed exercise to regain his usual stamina. As such Hiruma would take him along every morning for morning jogs but for a limited distance. Cerberus cannot go at full blast yet so as not to reinjure his legs.
They were about to leave when Mamori caught a heart-warming scene and took a picture. Cerberus was sleeping or was trying to, but the five puppies were crowding him. Two were playing with his tail, two were tugging at each of his ears, and one climbed up his back. The fact that Cerberus was not driving them off showed that he was already used to it.
"Maybe we should stay a bit longer," Mamori thought out loud.
"We still have a lot of work to do."
"How can you be so cold?"
"They're not humans. If he wants, then he can just stay here."
"How heartless."
"Tch. We can just drop by every now then." He had heard that so many times but still hearing it from her was irritating.
"Really?" Her eyes are all sparkly now so Hiruma couldn't help but nod. She obviously wanted to come see the puppies again. "Hmm, you are not so bad after all."
"Whatever." And so they left with Cerberus and had a meaty dinner later on to celebrate his recovery.
The vet had offered that they could take one of the puppies when it was old enough not to depend on milk so much. Mamori was delighted but Hiruma disagreed. So instead of getting a puppy for themselves, it would be given to Suzuna since she wanted one.
"Interesting. The Fucking Skates really likes imitating me. I'll take care of the deal. Who knows what information I'll get. Kekeke."
"Hiruma-kun, don't make Cerberus' puppy a bargaining piece."
"You'll be giving it to her anyway. Nothing's free now you know."
At Suzuna's place, Sena suddenly had a cold chill run down his spine like his life was suddenly on the line. He got the feeling that in the coming days, he would keep on running more and more.
