Steven was working as hard as he can to get things ready for the trail. The opening remarks will be held here in Sweet Valley, the rest of the trail will be in Los Angeles. His father, Ned Wakefield was working side by side with the head DA, Robert Mauldur.
He managed to track down those texts to Cara, it was traced back to a group of teenagers playing a prank. They pretty much cried to their parents when they were threatened to be charged and arrested with California's anti stalking laws. When asked how they obtained Cara's phone number, one of them tearfully admitted they found it on the Dark Web.
Steven immediately called the FBI to tell them about the texts. The DA's office was still waiting for answers, they had to know how Cara's number was leaked. ATF agent Nick Fox was still in Europe, he was working hard to find that captain of that boat, he disappeared minutes before the ship was invaded.
Steven threw his head in his head. Karl was wanted for the multiple charges in Sweet Valley back when Steven was a student at SVU. But these new charges, Interpol wanted him prosecuted for those drugs and guns charges. Which is why the trail was in LA. If convicted, he may be transferred to a highly secured supermax prison in Italy. Pagliarelli was one of the most secure, Marco Karl may be sent there after he is prosecuted. If Nelson is found guilty, he will be sent to Pelican Bay to serve his sentence. Many former drug lords were sent there.
As for Cara, she was laying low. She couldn't change her number, any calls or texts may be used for evidence, especially how her number got leaked. Cara swore no one knew her number, except her friends and family. Ned and the DA knew it as well. Hopefully the FBI can track down the user.
He opened up the Internet. Nelson Karl refused to make a statement, but his attorney just said the case against her client will be thrown out.
Steven hated to admit that may be true. Karl was smart. Really smart. He used underground money laundering services to move his money around. No paper trails, no digital print, guy was paranoid. The only thing he had was his family's money from his investments, all legit and legal. How he got over a hundred million was a mystery. That amount of money was hard to move around. There had to be many players out there, hopefully Nick played it safe.
He jumped when his phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Steven?"
"Hi. Who is this?"
After a few minutes Steven hung up. He gave Bruce Patman some legal advice, Bruce and Reggie was getting sued by Clay DiPalama's family. They were blaming Reggie for speeding and were suing him for a wrongful death suit for Clay dying. Never mind Clay himself was drunk at the time of the crash. Chances are high the suit will be thrown out, but there was a small chance that a suit may be merited. Bruce thanked Steven and was hiring the most expensive defense attorney in Southern California to fight his case. He didn't want Reggie being stressed.
He liked being a lawyer, but Steven always wondered if he should have been a basketball star instead. He was great at SVH back then. He would have given Billie and Austin a luxury life. His job payed well, but he and Billie wanted to buy a house. Especially since they wanted to expand on their family. Maybe he should ask for a raise. He worked hard enough.
