Happy Sunday everyone! I hope your week has been great! The next update will be on Wednesday! Enjoy!
Chapter Fifty-Three
I had planned on telling her this weekend, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I needed to tell her, sooner rather than later. I just needed to work up the nerve. She was marrying me, and she needed to know about my family's involvement in crime.
Since I lost my nerve to ask her this weekend, I decided that I'd wait until I tracked down and killed Caius. Once the threats were neutralized, telling her would make it so much easier.
Tonight my parents were taking us to dinner to celebrate our engagement. Bella was at the spa now with Rosalie, Alice, and my mother getting her hair and nails done.
While they were doing that, I was paying a little visit to my friend James. He'd been in one of our warehouses for a week now. I ordered everyone to allow him one bottle of water a day and one meal per day. I needed him to stay strong for the interrogation.
"Hey boss," Michael said as I walked to the steel door.
"Hey, Michael," I said, rolling up my sleeves, "How's the guarding been going."
"Well, he started with threats, then offered to pay me a shit ton if I let him out, and now he's just begging. Pathetic."
I laughed, "So much for a tough guy. Thanks for sticking around. I went ahead and deposited your paycheck this week. I put a little extra in there."
"Thanks man. Well I'm going to head out of here," He said, "My wife's been missing me."
I smiled, "Tell Daniella I said hi."
"Will do."
I nodded at Emmett and Jasper as we walked into the room. I hadn't seen this warehouse, I bought it a couple weeks ago. I'd been quickly buying new property and selling old property to conduct the nastier part of my business affairs. Since James knew so much and was feeding information of Caius, I figured I'd need to start being a little more careful.
James was tied down to a chair that was bolted to the floor. He glared at us as we walked in. Jasper moved to the corner and opened his laptop. Jasper wasn't one for the torture, but he was really useful in finding the truth and logging away important information.
"I hope your stay has been satisfactory." I said sarcastically.
James rolled his eyes, "Just get on with it, Cullen."
"Naw, I'm going to tease you a little." I pulled a chair up and sat, "Are you ready to give me the information I need?"
"I know you're just going to kill me anyways. I'm not saying anything."
"I figured you would think that way." I lit a cigarette, "And that's why Emmett's here. I'm sure you remember how much he loves this nasty part of our job. You two worked together frequently, you should remember."
James sneered, "Yeah. I remember. But you're not scaring me."
Emmett cracked his knuckles and smiled. I put a hand up.
"Who killed Aro?" I demanded.
He chuckled, "Why don't you take a look at my necklace?"
I reached forward and snatched the necklace off of his neck. I stared at the silver and gold cross for a moment before I realized whose it was. I clutched the necklace tightly.
"You did it." I snarled.
"Bingo," He laughed. Emmett's hand clamped down onto James's neck and squeezed until his laugh came out as a wheeze.
I grabbed my cellphone and texted my father. He quickly replied back.
"You're going to pay for Aro's death," I said, "Now tell me what Caius is planning."
James shrugged, "Don't know."
I crossed my arms, "Hey Emmett, you brought your tool bag right?"
"I sure did."
"Why don't you get the pliers."
Emmett grabbed his tool bag and pulled out the pliers, "Hmm, they're a little dull."
"We'll just have to clamp harder," I said, "I want the middle finger. The entire middle finger on the left hand," my cellphone buzzed, "Jasper, when Emmett gets the finger off please make sure the wound is cauterized. I don't won't our friend bleeding out before we're done."
"Of course," Jasper stood and plugged in the iron.
I walked out of the room just as James started screaming. Dad and Alec were outside waiting for me. Sulpicia sent Alec down a week ago to start preparing for school. It was a good coincidence that he happened to be down here for this.
"Hey guys," I said, "Thanks for bringing him dad."
"Of course," He said, placing a hand on Alec's shoulder.
"What are we doing here?" Alec asked.
"Alec, your father wants me to take you under my wing and get you prepared for this life," I told him, "As the next head of your family, you need to be able to do things that normal people can't do. Things that protect your family."
Alec nodded as he listened to me, his eyes wide. I opened my hand and revealed Aro's necklace to him. Slowly he took it and clutched it, looking back up at me.
"The man who killed your father is in there," I said, "And since he was your father, I want to give you the opportunity to get your revenge. I want to give you the option of standing in there as we interrogate him."
"I want to be there," He said quickly.
"I'm going to warn you Alec, it's going to be rough. It'll be brutal. Once you go into that room and participate, you won't be able to unsee or undo things. Is this what you absolutely want? Are you totally sure."
He nodded, "I want to be there."
I nodded once and lead him up to the room. Alec paused for a moment, my dad placed his hands on Alec's shoulders, giving him a bit of encouragement.
"I'm ready," Alec said after he took a deep breath.
I opened the door and lead them in. Emmett was busy wiping off his pliers. I looked to the bowl and saw James's middle finger sitting in it. James was shaking. I was surprised he hadn't passed out.
"James, this is Alec, Aro's son," I said, "Alec, this is James, the man who killed your father."
Alec nodded. I noticed that he had placed the necklace around his neck. He looked so much like Aro; it was almost scary. Dad kept a hand on his shoulder, making sure he was okay. Alec's hands balled into fists.
Alec lunged so fast that neither my father nor me had the chance to grab him. Alec got in three or four punches before we pried him off of James. Dad's hands kept Alec against him as he shook and cried.
James saw Alec's tears and started laughing. His laughter rough and strained, as he pushed through his pain.
"Your father cried as I choked him too," James spat, "You're a pansy, just like he was."
I backhanded James, "You won't disrespect Aro, and you won't disrespect Alec."
"What are you going to do about it?" He snapped. I backhanded him again. Blood began to run down his nose.
"Now," I leaned down to James, "You're going to tell me what Caius is planning."
He spit at me. I wiped it off and looked at Emmett, "Go ahead and take three fingers. Your choice."
"No wait!" James said, his face getting even paler, "Please. Stop."
"Then you tell me everything I want to know," I snapped, "You tell me everything. And if you lie to me, loosing a finger is going to be heaven compared to what I do."
"What do you want to know." He asked.
"What is Caius planning?"
"He wanted Aro's businesses, but then you ended up getting them," James said, "And that threw the plan off. So he decided to go another way. He's going to kill you, and then kill Alec. That way, the board will be forced to give to him the businesses. He's working on his relationship with board members."
"Which members?" I asked.
"All of them."
I nodded towards Jasper, who wrote the information down knowing to dig deeper.
"How many people does he have working for him?"
"I don't know, like fifteen maybe. That was mainly my job, recruiting people."
"I need names."
"I only know like three names."
"Give them to me," I said, "Where's Caius staying?"
"I'm not sure," He said.
"Emmett," I said.
"No please, I really don't know!" James said, "He moves constantly. He only stays in one place for a couple of days."
"Is he in Vermont or New York," I asked.
"He bounces around, but he mainly stays in Vermont."
"Who was it that attack Bella that night?"
"It was Laurent," James said quickly.
I leaned back in my chair and nodded, "Good to know."
Emmett had picked up Laurent last night and shoved him in another warehouse. Now that I knew he was the one who attacked Bella, I planned on torturing him, very slowly.
"How have you been communicating with Caius?"
"He keeps like three or four burner phones."
"What are the numbers?"
"I don't remember them." He said.
I nodded, "Well, thank you James."
"So, what… Are you going to kill me now?"
"I thought about it," I said, "You'd make great target practice for Alec. But then I realized, I need to make sure everything you're telling me is the truth."
"So you're going to keep me here?" He snapped.
"Did you think I was going to let you go? After everything you've done?"
"I knew I was going to fucking die," James said, "I just thought I'd die today. I've accepted it. Just kill me."
"Yeah, let's kill him," Alec snapped.
Dad placed his hand on Alec's shoulder, "Listen to what Edward is saying."
"Until Caius is six feet under, you're going to live. And if anything you've said turns out to be untrue, then you die." I said, "Until then, get comfortable. You're going to be here for a while."
We walked out of the room, leaving James tied to the chair. He couldn't get out from there, the door was steel, there weren't any windows or openings he could escape through. I called for a guard to get here within the hour, just in case.
"I need to head home and shower, before Bella sees me," I said; I had blood on my shirt. God only knows what she'd think if she saw that.
"Alright," Dad said, "We'll see you at seven."
I quickly drove home and took a shower before Bella got home. I threw my dirty clothes into the trash and took it out before she found it. I couldn't wait to tell her everything. Then I wouldn't have to sneak around like I do.
I made up my mind. I was going to tell her tonight after dinner.
Hopefully you guys liked it! Leave me a little review and let me know!
