Chapter 53 – Father and Son

Luke couldn't sleep. The images were still too vivid in his memory. He looked to his right and watched the hour: it was 2 am. Ines moved on his left and he looked at her. Sleeping deeply, laying on her back, with her left hand resting on top of her big belly. Apparently the baby was not moving that night. The other night, she couldn't sleep since their little Ben decided to stay awake all night, only calming down around 6 in the morning, only then they could fell sleep. He smiled remembering the day she told him she was pregnant, inside the Imperial Shuttle, before they headed to Endor and now, their son was a very active baby. He couldn't wait to have him in his arms, just like the vision that he kept remembering. Slowly he sat on the bed, and pulling the covers aside, he leaned down and kissed Ines belly, trying not to wake her up or the baby.

"I love you and your mother" he whispered to the belly.

Getting up, he grabbed a robe and went to veranda of their apartment. Life in Coruscant didn't stop, not even at night, with ships flying everywhere. Sitting down, he remembered Ines's father message. He hope he would know he will take care of his daughter. And Ines was right, maybe it was meant for him to revive the Jedi Order.

R2 appeared

"Hey little friend. Couldn't sleep either?"

The droid beeping.

Luke didn't have the little translation to understand what his little friend was saying, but R2 pointing and all of the sudden, holo images appears on the table in front of Luke.

He saw his father with a young woman, in that same veranda where he was at that moment. She was pregnant. Luke gasped

"My mother" he said looking at her. She was indeed very beautiful.

"I had a dream" Anakin spoke

"Bad" Padmé asked him

"Like the ones I used to have about my mother just before she died"

"And?"

"And it was about you?"

"Tell me"

"It was only a dream" Anakin said standing up and looking back at Padmé "You die in childbirth"

"And the baby?"

"I don't know"

"It was only a dream"

"I won't let this one become real"

"This baby will change our lives. I doubt the Queen will continue to allow me to serve in the senate. And if the council discovers you're the father, you'll be expelled…"

"I know… I know…" Anakin interrupted her

"Do you think Obi-Wan might be able to help us?"

"We don't need his help. Our baby is a blessing" he said as they hugged.

The holo stopped and Luke looked at R2. It was the first time he saw his parents together.

"They didn't know it was two babies at the time" Luke said looking at R2 "So that is when everything happened. He had a dream" Luke sighed.

R2 beeped again

"Show me more R2. Please"

The droid beeped and a new holo appeared. It was again his parents but this time they were in a different place. A lava planet. The situation was different.

"What are you doing here?" Anakin asked Padmé

"I was so worried about you. Obi-Wan told me terrible things"

"What things?"

"He said you've turned to the dark side. That you killed younglings."

"Obi-Wan is trying to turn you against me."

"He cares about us"

"Us?"

"He knows. He wants to help you. Anakin, all I want is your love."

"Love won't save you Padmé. Only my new powers can do that"

"At what cost? You're a good person. Don't do this"

"I won't lose you the way I lost my mother. I am becoming more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of. And I'm doing for you. To protect you."

"Come away with me. Help me raise our child. Leave everything else behind while we still can."

"Don't you see? We don't have to run away anymore. I have brought peace to the Republic. I am more powerful than the chancellor. I… I can overthrow him. And together you and I can rule the galaxy… Make things the way we want them to be"

"I don't believe what I'm hearing. Obi-Wan was right. You changed"

"I don't want to hear any more about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me. Don't you turn against me"

"I don't know you anymore. Anakin, you're breaking my heart. You're going down a path I can't follow"

"Because of Obi-Wan?"

"Because of what you've done. What you plan to do. Stop. Stop now. Come back. I love you"

"Liar"

Padmé looked behind and saw Obi-Wan

"No"

"You're with him! You brought him here to kill me."

Anakin started to choke Padmé, while Obi-Wan ordered him

"Let her go, Anakin! Let her go!"

Anakin let Padmé go as she fall on the ground unconscious.

The holo stopped and Luke stood up. How could he do that to his mother? He choke her. He could have killed her and him and Leia.

R2 beeped and a new holo appeared, making Luke turn and watched it.

"What is it this time, R2?"

Her mother was in a medical care somewhere with Obi-Wan by her side. She was giving birth.

A baby's cry was heard

"Ee-see-tah oy-doh" a robot said

"Luke" Padmé said as Obi-Wan took the baby and brought him near Padmé "Oh! Luke"

Than she started screamed again until another cry of a baby was heard

"Ee-see-tah oy-dah!

"It's a girl" Obi-Wan said

"Leia!"

After a while Padmé looked at Obi-Wan

"Obi-Wan, there's still good in him. I know. I know there's… still…" and giving her last breath, she died.

"I never saw that before" a voice came behind Luke and turning he saw the person he wanted to see all day

"Father" he called walking towards him "How could you do that? How could you betrayed the Jedi, Ben and how could you hurt my mother?"

Anakin sighed and sat down

"I regret that every single day"

Luke shook his head.

"I would never hurt Ines and our baby. I rather died than hurt her. How could you say you loved her and do that? If Ben wasn't there, you would kill her and me and Leia"

"Please son. I suffered long enough. I payed my sins. Trust me when I say I regret everything single day of what I've done. To everyone."

Luke sighed and sat next to him.

"How could you not see that the Emperor was using you all along. He didn't care about my mother, he wanted her to die because he knew your child would be a threat to him. And you fall into a trap"

"I was blind, my son. The idea of losing your mother was to painful for me. I have lost your grandmother, I couldn't lose the love of my life."

"I understand that. I lost my family too. I almost lost Ines and our baby too. But I accepted it. It would kill me inside not having Ines by my side and not having our baby, but I also knew she didn't want me to turn bad because of her."

Anakin looked at Luke

"Your love is different. You two were meant to be together. Like I noticed in the shuttle back in Endor, the love you two share gives you strength. That is why you didn't turn. Something that the Emperor never saw it coming. It was his mistake to bring Ines too that day to be closer to you. But he was more concern about my grandchild. His existence was a threat to him, as your future daughters will be to the ones who still support the empire"

"My daughters?" Luke said.

"In time you will see why your kids are important for the galaxy"

Luke nod.

"What was the plan of the Emperor all along?"

"If you didn't turn, he would kill you and make sure Ines would give birth and take back your son"

"And what about her?"

"He would killed her after that"

Luke sighed. He would knew that would happen for sure.

"And if I did turn?"

"He would try to make her turn. If she didn't, he would make you kill her right there along with your child"

"I wouldn't do that, not to her"

"I hope you can forgive me about what I have done. You were the first person who believed in me and never gave up on me, son. When I saw you and Ines together, I saw how strong your connection was and your love. Seeing her, on her knees, beginning for your life, and see you as well asked me to help you, I knew I couldn't allow him to separate you two. I own that to you and to your mother"

"She was very beautiful" Luke said

"Yes she was. When I first met her, I was 9 and I thought she was an angel."

Luke smiled as he father continue "I believe I had falling right there. The 10 years I've being separated from her, I never stopped thinking of her. We knew we were taking a risk by marrying in secret, but we choose our love. We were not expecting you and your sister"

"Well if you were sleeping together, you knew sooner or later that would happen" Luke replied "I think that was one of the mistakes of the Jedi. That is why I will allow the Jedi to marry. After all it would be very hypocritical of me that I would not allow them to do that, when I'm married. Love is not a bad thing. Ines and I are the prove of that."

"You did good. If the Jedi were allowed to married maybe this mess would have never happened. Either way, you and Ines would've always meet each other"

Luke looked at him

"How?"

"Bail Organa and Ken Talia were great friends of your mother. They knew her, so they would be here for sure, and you and Ines would have meet too. So as you see, no matter the situation, your paths would have always cross. But you two need to me careful. There still out there people who don't like you. You had a glimpse of that on your wedding day. Remember, your son and especially your twin daughters, they will be a threat to the followers of the emperor that still out there. You and Ines need to make a decision"

"What do you mean?"

"When the time comes, you need to make a decision to follow the force and conceived your daughters, knowing that your future will be in trouble, to protected them from the shadows of the empire."

"But why? Why my daughters would be a threat to them?"

"The force will show you at the right time. But the Skywalker name would be more important for the galaxy than you imagine, and you and Ines are the ones who will start that. You already begin that by conceiving my grandson. He would be powerful with the force."

Luke looked at his father. He knew that his child would be strong with the force. After all he and Ines were both force sensitive.

"Just be careful my son"

"I will father"

"You will be a great Jedi Master. I'm proud of you." and smiling Anakin vanish, leaving Luke alone with R2.

Ines and I would have twin girls, he though smiling.

"I think it is time to get to some sleep R2" he said patting the droid and heading back inside, he entered his bedroom where Ines were still sleeping, on her left side.

Taking off the robe, he got under the covers and wrapping his right arm around her waist, he pulled closer to him, resting his chest against her back. Kissing her shoulder, and resting his hand on her belly he thought:

"I would not allow anyone to hurt you and our children" and closing his eyes, he finally fell asleep.

So Luke saw some scenes from his parents, including his and Leia's birth. He also found out he and Ines will have twin girls and they would be important to the galaxy, alongside with their older brother. What Anakin meant about when the time comes they need to decide about having the twins or not?
