Yumi stared at her wardrobe. There was little time left. Ulrich would be coming over immediately after changing clothes at his apartment. He would pick her up and together they would make their way over to Odd and Kelly. Going by car was faster than using public transport, especially in the evening when buses and trains had larger time intervals between departures. The latter couple didn't have a car, let alone a driver's license.

Her doorbell rang. Yumi let Ulrich in after confirming it was indeed her boyfriend. "You're not ready yet?" He asked. Ulrich now wore black jeans, a white T-shirt and a dark green blazer. His hair however, was a mess. Yumi laughed. "No, but what did you do?" She chuckled while ruffling his hair. "The weather decided to betray us. If you need a hair dryer, just stick your head outside," he grumbled. "I'm borrowing your bathroom."

"Go ahead," she said as she stepped inside her room again. Having seen Ulrich's outfit she had a palette of colours in mind for her own clothes. Ulrich knocked on her bedroom door. "Yes," she responded. He peeked inside. "So, how's this?" Yumi eyed his hair. "Did you change anything?" She joked. Ulrich reached for his head again. "It's fine," she said.

Ulrich walked to her mirror and shrugged after glancing at himself for a second. "I'll be out in a minute. So..," Yumi dragged out the last word and lightly pushed him out of the room. "It's a long drive to Odd," he reminded her. "I know. Five minutes," she adjusted her time. "I'll drink some water," Ulrich said, heading for the kitchen. "Sure." Yumi closed the door.

A while later Yumi checked herself in her mirror. A pair of maroon coloured high-waist skinny jeans combined with a black loose fitting blouse falling just over the edge. She had applied a small, almost unnoticeable, amount of make-up. Her hair was pinned in such a way that a few locks fell to the front, whereas the rest was combed to the back. Yumi put on her necklace as the finishing touch.

"Let's go," she exited the room. Ulrich took in her appearance. "I'm having a déja vû," he said. Yumi recalled the previous time this happened. "Well?" Yumi wanted his opinion. "Stunning." He grinned. She smiled and thanked him before gathering her bag, phone and keys.

A few minutes later they were on their way to Odd's place. "I hope it's just a normal event," Yumi began when they had just departed. "Hmm, I don't know anything about the sponsor. But I'm sure it will be fun," Ulrich replied. "Maybe Aelita and Jeremie did some research. They're the only ones who really had a chance to do so," she speculated. "Might be." Ulrich focused on making a left turn.

"I've been thinking about what you said the other day." Ulrich concentrated on her words and on the approaching traffic lights in front of them. Yumi continued. "There is a section in my university that guides students who don't really know what they want to do. I'm studying Business Management, but it's rather broad and I don't have any ambitious plans in life. Before I decide to stick with my current job however, I want to explore my opportunities. I do believe I'm at that point where I should really consider that. And I wanted to let you know I'm going to attend a few advisory sessions. If it doesn't get me anywhere, I might look into other methods," Yumi revealed after a brief silence.

"Okay, thanks for telling me," Ulrich said with a stoic expression as he stiffened slightly. "Are you upset?" She carefully asked. "No, I understand. I told you that it was fine for you to do so. I get it. But I wasn't expecting it so soon." Yumi put her hand on top of his hand that held the clutch. "I've still got two years until I'm finished with my studies. I'm only looking ahead. I won't suddenly disappear. I promise," she assured him. Ulrich relaxed and nodded. Yumi understood it wasn't easy to deal with the current uncertainty. "Sorry for bringing up this topic. Maybe today wasn't the best timing," she regretted it. Yumi retracted her hand.

Ulrich shook his head. "You don't need to be mindful around me. You should know that. We are now facing each other directly, so any time, any place, any topic. It's all okay. I'm glad you shared your thoughts and plans," he stated. Yumi watched the traffic light turn green. "I didn't want to make you worry too much about it," she admitted. There was no car behind them, so Ulrich stayed put and faced Yumi. "Let me," he stressed. Yumi tried to read him. "But,-" he interrupted her. "I always worried about not overstepping boundaries within our set friendship. That was one of my priorities. Now, that has changed," he took her hand and interlaced their fingers. "You occupy half of my thoughts so of course I'm going to worry about you. And the amount of worries only increased. For example, I feel anxious about not being able to see you as often (or not at all) and if that happens I will definitely sulk until Odd smacks some sense into me." Yumi smiled a little. "But I'm going to support your future final decision no matter what," Ulrich promised.

Yumi nodded. "Okay," she softly said. He kissed her on the cheek. The light had turned green again in the meantime and somebody honked in the car behind them. "Remind me to pull over next time," he said as he hurriedly drove on. Yumi laughed. "Is there going to be a next time?"

"Maybe, maybe not," he simply replied, stopping at another traffic light. "I have all the traffic lights against me." Yumi leaned over to kiss him, then sat back properly. "Apparently that's not a bad thing," she said. However, she wasn't used to such acts and blushed while she gazed at a tree next to the road. Ulrich chuckled. "Let's keep it safe though," he said. Yumi hummed her agreement, still refraining from looking at him. She stayed that way until they reached Odd's place.

"Yumi?" Ulrich tried to get her to face him. He poked her side, succeeding in startling her. "Hey!" Yumi began, but realized the car wasn't moving. "We're here," Ulrich pointed outside, "I think we're just in time." Yumi followed his line of sight and noticed Odd and Kelly walking towards them. The short male was dressed in a blue collared sweater and light grey pants, while Kelly wore a simple teal coloured sleeveless A-Line one piece dress with some ballet flats. They were carrying there coats.

When they were seated in the car, Yumi started laughing. "We're seated according to our length," she said. "Perfect fit for Odd," Ulrich chimed in. "But we'll never have a problem then. Even if Odd gets his license, he'll need to scoot to the front anyway. So that will leave you guys plenty of leg space," Kelly decided to play along. "It's so great to feel welcomed," Odd faked being hurt. They all laughed.

The drive to the venue took another twenty minutes. "Wow, I think Jeremie might have a hard time after all, Ulrich," Yumi gaped at the tall building standing in front of them. It consisted of two towers which were connected by a glass tunnel with a sphere in the middle. Ulrich gulped, being reminded of his own vertigo. "Well, here goes nothing!" Odd led the way inside. Kelly followed immediately as she was equally excited. Yumi put her chin on Ulrich shoulder and glanced at him. "You scared?" She teased. "Pfft, no," he dismissed, but wasn't too enthusiastic about going inside. "Let's go, the others are waiting," she pulled him along.

They were greeted by a staff member, who confirmed they were here for the event. Afterwards, they met up with Aelita and Jeremie as well as the remaining couple. Jeremie was wearing a brown dress shirt and Aelita was wearing a rose coloured dress. "Seems like everyone has matching colours," Kelly observed. The six of them stared at themselves. "Maybe it'll be our good luck charms," Aelita said. "Are you guys ready?" She asked. Jeremie had pressed the button, calling the elevator. "Yep," Ulrich said. "You bet," Yumi followed. "I'm always ready," Odd boasted. Kelly nodded as well. Jeremie smiled at his girlfriend.

The elevator door opened and they all stepped inside, ready for a fun night!
