54. Chapter 54

1:30 PM

Sesshoumaru watched as his Mokomoko entangled itself around the little priestess. She really had done nothing in order to invoke a reaction out of it. This was not good.

'It's perfect.' His beast argued. His brows furrowed as he pulled on his clothes and waited for Kagome to finish slipping on her footwear.

Perfect was not the word he would use. Complicated would probably be a far better fit. His strange behaviour, his beasts demands for her, and his Mokomoko moving on its own could really only mean one thing.

'Yes. She's ...' He heard inside his head.

'No.' He cut himself off. He would not say it. Couldn't. There was no reason to entertain this idea. 7 days. That was the deal.

He debated giving her his hand again, wanting to gain some distance in order to deal with his troubling thoughts. But there was no denying the attraction and need to be with her. He ached for her even as she stood right next to him. Trying his best not to frown and show his frustrations he gave in and took her by the hand to lead her back to the cave.

The simple act of touching her was able to calm his frazzled nerves, and that made things even worse.

"Sesshoumaru?" She asked. "Is everything ok?"

"Hn." What else could he say? 'No, everything is NOT ok. I am thinking about waging war with my country, with my kind, all in order to have you by my side?' That would probably not go over well.

"Are you sure?" She hedged again.

"Quite." He assured her. This was not her problem, it was his. He supposed he should be thankful for the fact that she could not smell his dishonesty. Though if she could, this would not be an issue to begin with. And once again, just like that, he hit full circle with his little miko dilemma.

His mouth set in a scowl and he focused on the task at hand, getting her back to the cave, the rest he would deal with as the problems arose.
