Yippee Kayak

So, just to recap, you left an unmarked package on a police captain's desk on a random Monday with a suspicious message written on it that looked like it was scrawled by a crazy person.

Uh-huh.

Bomb! There's a bomb! Everyone out! Let's go. This is not a drill.

Great gift, babe.

Amy was in the backseat, her arms curled around her knees, her puffy coat pulled tight around her. Her heat was beating faster than it ever had, and her palms were sweaty with anxiety.

She knew it was part of the job and they could face moments like that every single day, but it didn't make it any easier. She was scared- no, she was terrified. Jake was inside. Jake and Charles and Gina, and she didn't know who she should be more worried for. They were her family, the family she chose for herself, and they were in danger.

Rosa's hand snakes into the backseat, patting her knee awkwardly.

"It's Jake", she says simply. "He's gonna be fine".

Amy offers her a shaky smile, biting her bottom lip. Her heart was beating too fast, and she knew it wouldn't settle until she saw for herself that Jake was okay.

"Jake!"

She throws herself at him, smashing her lips to his.

"Ames!"

He holds her tight, rubbing her arms with his hands.

"You're freezing!"

"You're okay!"

And she wraps her arms around him, feeling his heart beating in his chest. He hugs her back, resting his chin atop her head. He smiles softly, kissing the top of her head.

"It's okay", he whispers.
