Chapter 55: The Royal Baby
Drew had slept on the couch that's in May's hospital room. Amaryllis was sound asleep in her bassinet. May is asleep, because giving birth had made her a bit tired.
It's 7 in the morning when Drew woke up, because he heard Amaryllis crying. He sat up and got off of the couch. He walked to Amaryllis's bassinet, looking down at Amaryllis. "Shhh…" Drew hushed. "It's okay…"
Amaryllis kept crying loudly.
"Hmm…" Drew hummed, thinking. He grabbed his sword's grip and teleported his guitar to him. He put the strap over him and started playing a slow and gentle melody of notes.
Drew watched Amaryllis cry and scream some more. But then...her crying actually started to quiet down.
Amaryllis opened her watery eyes and looked up at Drew. Drew smiled, still plucking the strings of his guitar.
At this moment, May opened her eyes. She looked at Drew to see him playing his guitar. She sat up and turned her head to look down at Amaryllis.
May looked back at Drew. "Was she crying right now?"
"Yeah." Drew answered, smiling. "I think she's hungry."
"Okay then. Give her to me and I'll breastfeed her."
Drew stopped playing the guitar and he took it off and placed it on the couch. He walked back to the bassinet, carefully picking up Amaryllis. May took off her maternity dress and laid it on her body. Drew then handed her the baby.
May held Amaryllis in her arms and started to breastfeed her. Drew sat down on the bed by May's feet.
May looked at Drew. "I'm impressed with the way you calmed her down."
Drew smiled. "Thanks. I guess we have a musical baby, huh?"
May giggled. "Yeah. Amaryllis loves music. She stopped kicking when you'd sing before she was even born, and she stopped crying when you'd play." She looked down at Amaryllis. "I can tell that she's going to love music."
After a moment, May looked back at Drew. "And I'll be counting on you to play and sing for her, okay?"
"Okay." Drew agreed. "I think it will be easy to calm her down if I play."
"And it could be like your moments to bond with each other!" May said excitedly. Drew chuckled.
Ring ring ring!
Ring ring ring!
"Oh. Drew, that's my phone." May said. "Can you answer it?"
Drew reached over May to her phone that's right next to her on the bed. He answered the call and put the phone to his ear. "Hello?"
"Drew?" Dahlia asked on the other side of the call.
"Yeah. What is it, Dahlia?"
"Where are you and May? Everyone here is questioning that."
"Well...we're at the hospital."
"Hospital?" After a moment, Drew heard Dahlia gasp. "...Is it time?"
"Yeah." Drew answered. "Actually it was time. And we're actually going to be here for all of today. May is free to go home tomorrow."
Dahlia gasped again. "The baby was born?" She asked excitedly.
"Yes." Drew answered. "We can't wait to show her to everyone. But like I said, we won't be ruling today, okay? Tell everyone at the castle the good news, but make sure they don't come here to see the baby right away. They'll see her when we go back."
"Okay, Your Majesty. Congratulations. And another thing…"
"What is it?"
"Kiara and Bradley arrived earlier today."
"Oh! Perfect. Send them here. And could you call the whole gang? Tell them to come here. And also mine and May's parents."
"Right away, Drew. Tell May I say 'Congratulations'." Dahlia hung up.
Drew put May's phone back next to her. "What did Dahlia say?" May asked.
"She asked me where we are, so I told her that we won't be back until tomorrow, and that the baby is born." Drew started. "And she said that Kiara and Bradley arrived today, so they're now on their way. And she says congratulations."
May smiled. "Yay! The gang and our parents plus Bradley are going to see Amaryllis! This is so exciting! I can't wait to see their reactions."
May finished breastfeeding Amaryllis after thirty minutes and she handed her to Drew. Drew rocked her in his arms while May put on her dress.
May looked up at Drew and smiled. "When did you learn how to hold a baby?"
Drew looked at May. "I might've done my research before we came here. I had to be prepared before you gave birth."
"Aww…" May cooed.
Drew handed May Amaryllis back and he walked to the couch to get his guitar. He went back and sat down on the bed, positioning his guitar to play.
(This song is "Truly Madly Deeply" by Savage Garden.)
Drew started strumming his guitar. "I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy." Amaryllis looked at Drew. "I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need. I'll love you more with every breath. Truly, madly, deeply do. I will be strong, I will be faithful. 'Cause I'm counting on a new beginning, a reason for living, a deeper meaning, yeah."
Drew looked at May. "I wanna stand with you on a mountain. I wanna bathe with you in the sea. I wanna lay like this forever. Until the sky falls down on me."
"And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky," he continued. "I'll make a wish, send it to heaven, then make you want to cry. The tears of joy for all the pleasure and the certainty. That we're surrounded by the comfort and protection of the highest powers, in lonely hours, the tears devour you."
"I wanna stand with you on a mountain. I wanna bathe with you in the sea. I wanna lay like this forever. Until the sky falls down on me."
"Oh, can you see it, baby? You don't have to close your eyes. 'Cause it's standing right before you. All that you need will surely come."
"I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy." Drew sang. "I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need. I'll love you more with every breath. Truly, madly, deeply do. Mmm, mmm."
"I wanna stand with you on a mountain. I wanna bathe with you in the sea. I wanna lay like this forever. Until the sky falls down on me. I wanna stand with you on a mountain. I wanna bathe with you in the sea. I want to live like this forever. Until the sky falls down on me." Drew sang, finishing the song.
"I feel the same way." May said. Drew smiled. May looked down at Amaryllis. "Did you like that song?"
No response.
Knock knock knock.
The door opened and Kiara's head poked inside. "Where's my niece?" She asked happily, entering the room with Bradley, Caroline, and Norman.
May smiled at everyone. Drew stood up and moved the bassinet to the wall, making room for family to see Amaryllis.
Kiara gasped excitedly and rushed to the bed, looking at Amaryllis. "Aww...she's so cute. And looks just like you two." Kiara reached out and gently took Amaryllis's hand with her thumb, index finger, and middle finger.
The others smiled at Amaryllis. "She's beautiful." Caroline said.
"Thanks, Mom." May said. "Would you like to hold her?"
"Would I ever?" Caroline answered happily.
May let Caroline lift Amaryllis off of her. Caroline rocked her in her arms.
Norman smiled at Amaryllis. "Our granddaughter is finally here."
"I know, right? It's so great!" Caroline said.
At that moment, Misty, Ash, Dawn, Paul, Gary, and Leaf all entered the room. May and Drew noticed them.
"Guys!" May said happily.
Dawn let out an excited gasp. She went to Caroline to get a look at Amaryllis. "Here's our Princess."
"What's her name?" Misty asked.
"Amaryllis." May answered. "We wanted a name that's both unique and beautiful."
"Perfect for a Princess." Drew said.
"Well, you definitely got that right." Kiara said. "That's the perfect name for her."
Soon after the gang had arrived, Steven and Julianna entered the room. They got to see their granddaughter. Everyone said their congratulations to May and Drew. And then May started a conversation after Caroline handed Amaryllis back to her.
"Tomorrow is when we'll introduce Amaryllis to everyone in Hoenn on TV. They'll be excited to know that their Princess has arrived."
"Sounds good!" Dawn said.
"We're glad we could be the first to see her." Kiara said.
May and Drew's parents, the gang, and Bradley had all left after a couple of hours of visiting May, Drew, and Amaryllis at the hospital.
May and Drew spent the entire day at the hospital. May would breastfeed Amaryllis, they'd both take turns changing her diaper, and they were learning how to care for a baby together. And they'd put her down in her bassinet for several naps throughout the day.
But now it's the next day when May and Drew could take Amaryllis home. Kiara and Bradley had gone back to Rose after leaving the hospital, so they won't be here for the big introduction to everyone, but they're still glad to have met their niece.
May, Drew, and Amaryllis left the hospital and made it home in a carriage without anyone in the city knowing that Amaryllis was born already. May and Drew had gone straight to Amaryllis's nursery in the castle, showing her everything before May put her in her crib for another nap.
While Amaryllis was sleeping, May and Drew were preparing the royal introduction ceremony with the help of the gang.
There's flower pots of amaryllises right outside of castle walls like a walkway. People are gathering around the front of the castle for the big announcement, and TV reporters are filming it, so everyone in Hoenn can watch.
Everyone awaits the moment that the royal baby will be shown…
May and Drew walked out of the castle to the gates, followed by Caroline and Norman. Drew is holding Amaryllis in his arms. Everyone in the audience quieted down when they noticed the royal family.
May and Drew stopped at the end of the walkway of amaryllises. They smiled at each other before facing forward again.
May stepped forward. "Citizens of Hoenn...we thank you for your patience. 5 months ago, we said that there will be a big announcement in December about Hoenn's Princess. And today is that day."
"Being the rulers of Hoenn takes compassion." Drew started. "We always put the people before ourselves. We care for everyone, even those outside of Hoenn. We protect all of Hoenn and its people from any evil that strikes. And you all look to us to solve any problems you may have." He paused. "But now...it's time to introduce the newest member of the royal family."
May used her scepter to Levitate Amaryllis up in the air. Everyone looked up at her.
"Everyone...meet your Princess…" May said. "Princess Amaryllis!"
Applause soon followed. Amaryllis looked around while floating in the air. And then, she showed a small smile.
May gasped. "Drew, she's smiling."
"Yeah…" Drew said, surprised.
May smiled brightly and looked back at the audience. "Princess Amaryllis is Hoenn's future Queen. And my wish for her is…" she looked up at Amaryllis. "...that she always shines her true colors. She'll be caring, compassionate, and loyal to her kingdom. She'll be willing to do whatever it takes to protect Hoenn. And she'll show us and everyone that she's right for the job as the next Queen." Applause sounded again.
After that ceremony, May and Drew decided to visit a certain magical being…
"Goddess, we want you to say hi to our daughter." May said.
The goddess smiled down at May, Drew, and Amaryllis. "I saw your arrival in the future. And now that you're here, congratulations."
"Thanks, goddess."
The goddess stared down into Amaryllis's eyes.
"...Do you see something?" Drew asked.
"Princess Amaryllis…" Goddess started. "...I'm seeing into her future."
"What do you see?" May asked.
"...She'll eventually have control of her own magic. And that magic will need to be used to protect Hoenn from several different villains…"
"She'll...get her own magic?" May questioned.
Goddess nodded. "Given to her by you and Drew." May and Drew looked at each other. "But that's not all." May and Drew looked back up. "I want you two to remember this…" she paused. "...when all of Hoenn is trapped within dark magic...you'll need to listen to your daughter...for she'll be the one to save us all."
May and Drew just stared at the goddess. May looked down at Amaryllis in her arms. "You'll...save us?" May asked quietly. "...what power will you possess?"
The next part of this series will be called "The Next Generation". Thank you for all the support for these first three seasons. Season 4 will take place when Amaryllis is in high school, as well as the rest of the gang's kids too.
