Chapter 54: A New Hope Part 3
In Tatooine...
Lisa was quiet during the ride back through the desert.
The blonde haired girl really wanted Luke to come to Alderaan so that they can help Leia and the Rebellion together, but knew she couldn't change her brother's mind on whatever he decided.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she felt a disturbance of the Force.
Something terrible has happened.
The group notice the Jawas were all laying dead in the desert and from the looks of things it looked as if it was the Sand People that were responsible for this.
Lisa, Luke, Obi-Wan and the two droids got out of the speeder to examine the dead Jawas.
"It looks like the Sandpeople did this, all right."Luke said and notice the items on the floor. "Look. There's gaffi sticks, bantha tracks. It's just, I've never heard of them hitting anything this big before."
"They didn't, but we are meant to think they did."Obi-Wan admitted. "These tracks are side-by-side. Sandpeople always ride single file to hide their numbers."
"These are the same Jawas that sold us R2 and 3PO."Luke stated.
"And these blast points, too accurate...for Sandpeople."Obi-Wan replied and gripped Luke's shoulder. "Only imperial stormtroopers are so precise."
"But why would imperial troops want to slaughter Jawas?"Luke asked.
Lisa's eyes widen as a horrible thought came into her mind.
"Luke..."Lisa started.
"If they traced the robots here, they may have learned who they sold them to, and that would lead them back...home!"Luke exclaimed.
Both Luke and Lisa rushed to the speeder.
"Wait! Luke! Lisa!"Obi-Wan protested. "It's too dangerous!"
Luke and Lisa got on the speeder and immediately took off to go back to Owen's homestead.
When the Skywalker twins arrived to the homestead, they found it destroyed and burned.
Luke jumped out and runs to the smoking holes that was once his home with Lisa right next to him.
"Uncle Owen!"Luke called out. "Aunt Beru!"
"Owen!"Lisa shouted. "Beru!"
Lisa covered her mouth and began to tear up when she saw the smouldering remains of their uncle and aunt.
Luke looked at the dead bodies quietly as Lisa quietly cried in his arms.
In the Death Star...
Two stormtroopers opened a cell door and allowed several Imperial guards to enter.
Princess Leia's glaring look slowly gives way to fear as a IT-O interrogator droid entered followed Darth Vader.
"And, now Your Highness, we will discuss the location of your hidden Rebel base."Vader stated.
The torture droid gave off a steady beeping sound as it approached Princess Leia and extended one of its mechanical arms bearing a large hypodermic needle.
Then the door slide shut as the muffled screams of the Rebel princess were barely heard.
Back in Tatooine...
Luke and Lisa returned to where Obi-Wan and the two droids after they buried their uncle and aunt near their grandparents' graves.
"They're gone, Obi-Wan."Lisa admitted as she dried her tears. "They're dead."
"There's nothing you or Luke could have done, Lisa."Obi-Wan responded. "If both of you had you been there, your brother would've been killed while you and the droids would now be in the hands of the Empire."
Lisa nodded as she forced a small smile on her face.
"Lisa..."Luke started.
"Yeah?"Lisa asked.
"I want to come with you and Obi-Wan to Alderaan."Luke stated. "There's nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father."
"Of course."Obi-Wan answered. "And I have no doubt Ferus will be a excellent teacher to you."
Luke and Lisa smiled at each other before they continued their journey along with Obi-Wan, Threepio and Artoo.
Luke stopped the speeder and they all looked down on a small town in the middle of the desert.
"Mos Eisley spaceport."Obi-Wan declared. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."
Luke started up the speeder to head to Mos Eisley.
Suddenly the speeder was stopped on a crowded street by four stormtroopers who look over the two droids.
Lisa remained calm as she sat on the seat at back where she was close to Threepio and Artoo.
"How long have you had these droids?"A stormtrooper questioned.
"Three or four seasons."Luke answered.
"They're up for sale if you want them."Lisa insisted.
"Let me see your identification."the stormtrooper ordered.
Lisa and Luke fumbled to find their IDs while Obi-Wan spoke to the stormtrooper in a very controlled voice.
"You don't need to see their identifications."Obi-Wan instructed.
"We don't need to see their identifications."the stormtrooper repeated.
"These aren't the droids you're looking for."Obi-Wan said.
"These aren't the droids we're looking for."the stormtrooper declared.
"They can go about their business."Obi-Wan stated.
"You can go about your business."the stormtrooper replied. "Move along."
Luke moved the speeder away from the stormtroopers causing Lisa to sigh in relief.
That was a close one.
Luke pulled the speeder up in front of a rundown blockhouse cantina on the outskirts of the spaceport.
Luke, Lisa, Obi-Wan, Threepio and Artoo went out of the speeder as a Jawa began to fondle their ride.
"I can't abide those Jawas."Threepio scowled. "Disgusting creatures!"
"Go on, go on."Luke instructed and made the Jawa go away before looking at Obi-Wan. "I can't understand how we got by those troops. I thought we were dead."
"The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded."Obi-Wan stated.
"Are you sure that we're gonna find a pilot here that'll take us to Alderaan?"Lisa questioned.
"Most of the best freighter pilots are to be found here, only watch your step."Obi-Wan responded. "This place can be a little rough."
"I'm ready for anything."Luke assured.
"Hope your not being cocky, Luke."Lisa thought. "I'm getting a bad feeling about this."
Luke, Lisa, Threepio and Artoo followed followed Obi-Wan into the smoke-filled cantina.
The murky, mouldy den was filled with a startling array of weird alien creatures at the long metallic bar.
Suddenly the rough looking Bartender stopped the Skywalker twins and the robots.
"We don't serve their kind here!"the Bartender snapped.
"What?"Luke asked.
"Your droids."the Bartender declared. "They'll have to wait outside. We don't want them here."
Lisa noticed several of the gruesomecreatures along the bar were giving them very unfriendly glare.
Luke patted Threepio on the shoulder.
"Listen, why don't you wait out by the speeder."Luke commented. "We don't want any trouble."
"I heartily agree with you, sir."Threepio agreed.
Threepio and Artoo went out as Lisa stood closely next to Luke.
"Luke, I have a feeling we're not wanted here."Lisa said with a nervous expression.
"It will be okay, Lisa."Luke assured.
Luke and Lisa sat down together as they notice Obi-Wan talking to a Wookiee named Chewbacca.
A creepy alien grunted at Luke in an unintelligible language causing Lisa's hand went to her lightsaber.
Luke simply nodded and turned back to his drink, only for a man with a pig like nose to touch his shoulder.
"He doesn't like you."the man said.
"I'm sorry."Luke responded.
"I don't like you either."the man retorted. "You just watch yourself. We're wanted men. I have the death sentence on 12 systems."
"I'll be careful."Luke responded.
"You'll be dead!"the man growled.
The man grabbed Luke's shoulder and threw him to the ground.
"Luke!"Lisa shouted.
Suddenly Obi-Wan came forward as Lisa rushed to help her brother.
"These little ones are not worth the effort."Obi-Wan said. "Come let me get you something."
Obi-Wan took out his lightsaber and slashed the alien's hand before he could use his blaster to hit him.
The old jedi turns off his lightsaber and replaces it on his utility belt.
Lisa helped Luke stand up as they stared at Obi-Wan in awe.
The entire fight has lasted only a matter of seconds and the cantina goes back to normal, although Ben is given a respectable amount of room at the bar.
Luke and Lisa walked up to Obi-Wan as he pointed to the Wookiee he was talking to.
"Chewbacca here is first mate on a ship that might suit us."Obi-Wan explained.
"Hello."Lisa responded with a smile.
Chewbacca gives Lisa a soft growl.
The Skywalker twins followed Obi-Wan and Chewbacca to where a human smuggler was sitting.
"Han Solo. I'm captain of the Millennium Falcon."Han stated. "Chewie here tells me you're looking for passage to the Alderaan system."
"Yes, indeed, if it's a fast ship."Obi-Wan commented.
"Fast ship?"Han questioned in disbelief. "You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?"
"Should I have?"Obi-Wan asked.
"It's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs."Han explained. "I've outrun imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's fast enough for you, old man. What's the cargo?"
"Only passengers...myself, the boy, the girl, two droids and no questions asked."Obi-Wan admitted.
"What is it, some kind of local trouble?"Han asked.
"Let's just say we'd like to avoid any imperial entanglements."Obi-Wan responded.
"Well, that's the real trick, isn't it?"Han said. "And it's gonna cost you something extra. 10,000, all in advance."
"10,000?"Luke repeated. "We could almost buy our own ship for that!"
"But who's gonna fly it, kid, you?"Han asked smugly.
"You bet I could."Luke replied. "I'm not such a bad pilot myself."
"I guess nothing will change your mind?"Lisa scoffed.
"I could lower the price, if you let me take you out on a date, blondie."Han flirted.
Lisa rolled her eyes as Luke became more irritated.
"We don't have to sit here and listen-"Luke started.
"We can pay you 2,000 now plus 15 when we reach Alderaan."Obi-Wan declared.
"Seventeen, huh? Okay."Han answered. "You guys got yourselves a ship. We'll leave as soon as you're ready. Docking Bay 94."
"Ninety-four."Obi-Wan said.
"Looks like somebody's beginning to take an interest in your handiwork."Han admitted.
Obi-Wan, Luke and Lisa turned out and saw stormtroopers entering the cantina, but they quickly made their escape as the stormtroopers went to where Han and Chewbacca were.
Outside...
Obi-Wan, Luke and Lisa quickly headed back to the speeder to find Threepio and Artoo.
"You'll have to sell your speeder."Obi-Wan stated.
"That's okay."Luke assured. "I'm never coming back to this planet again."
"Well, in that case, Luke."Lisa remarked with a warm smile. "Welcome to the Rebellion."
In the Death Star...
Darth Vader talked to Tarkin after interrogating Leia in her prison cell.
"Her resistance to the mind probe is considerable."Darth Vader complemented. "It'll be some time before we can extract any information from her."
An imperial officer walked up to Tarkin.
"The final checkout is completed."the imperial officer declared. "All systems are operational. What course shall we set?"
"Perhaps she would respond to an alternative form of persuasion."Tarkin suggested.
"What do you mean?"Darth Vader questioned.
"I think it is time we demonstrated the full power of this station."Tarkin admitted. "Set your course for Alderaan."
"With pleasure."the imperial officer answered.
In Tatooine...
Obi-Wan, Luke and Lisa stood in a sleazy used speeder lot, talking with a tall insect-like used speeder dealer.
"All right. Give it to me."Luke insisted. "I'll take it."
Lisa placed on her backpack as the insect concluded the sale by giving Luke some coins before they walked away from the dealer.
"Look at this."Luke responded. "Ever since the XP-38 came out, they just aren't in demand."
"It'll be enough."Obi-Wan assured.
"The sooner we get into Solo's ship, the sooner we can leave here."Lisa commented.
"If he tries to hit on you again, I'll beat him up."Luke joked.
"Don't worry about that, Luke."Lisa chuckled. "I doubt I'm even his type anyway."
The old jedi and the Skywalker twins leave the speeder lot and walk down the dusty alleyway past a small robot herding a bunch of ant eater-like creatures.
Unknown to them, a darkly clad creature moved out of the shadows as they passed and watched them as they disappear down another alley.
Lisa notice Threepio and Artoo following them from behind.
"Where were you two?"Lisa demanded with a frown.
"My apologies, Lady Lisa."Threepio replied. "We were in the middle of hiding from stormtroopers."
Artoo beeped in agreement.
"Alright, but stay close to us now."Lisa ordered. "We're leaving."
"If the ship's as fast as he's boasting, we ought to do well."Obi-Wan stated.
Chewbacca waits restlessly at the entrance to Docking Bay 94.
Obi-Wan, Luke, Lisa and the two droids make their way up the street.
Chewbacca jabbered excitedly and signalled for them to hurry.
The darkly clad creature followed them from the speeder lot and stopped in a nearby doorway to speak into a small transmitter.
Chewbacca lead the group into a giant dirt pit that is Docking Bay 94.
Resting in the middle of the huge hole was Han's starship, the Millennium Falcon.
"Whoa..."Lisa said in surprise.
"What a piece of junk!"Luke complemented.
"She'll make five past light speed."Han declared. "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."
Chewbacca rushed up the ramp and urged the others to follow.
"But we're a little rushed, so if you'll just get on board, we'll get outta here."Han stated.
The group rushed up the gang plank, passing a grinning Han Solo.
Chewbacca settles into the pilot's chair and starts the mighty engines of the star ship.
Luke, Lisa, Obi-Wan, Threepio and Artoo move toward the Millennium Falcon passing Solo.
"Hello, sir."Threepio greeted.
Suddenly eight stormtroopers charge down the docking bay entrance holding their guns.
"Stop that ship!"A stormtrooper shouted.
Han looked up and sees the Imperial stormtroopers rushing into the docking bay.
Several of the troopers fire at Han as he ducked into the spaceship.
"Blast 'em!"
Han draws his laser pistol and fired a couple of shots which force the stormtroopers to dive for safety.
The Millennium Falcon's engines whine as Han hits the release button that slammed the overhead entry shut.
"Chewie, get us out of here!"Han ordered.
Luke, Lisa and Obi-Wan strapped in for take off as Threepio spoke to Artoo.
"Oh, my."Threepio said nervously. "I'd forgotten how much I hate space travel. "
More stormtroopers hear the general alarm and looked to the sky as the huge starship rose above the dingy slum dwellings and quickly disappeared into the morning sky.
Han climbed into the pilot's chair next to Chewbacca, who chattered away as he pointed to something on the radar scope.
Then the Millennium Falcon zoomed from Tatooine and into space.
