It was coming up to lunchtime and Nick and Fin had just returned from interviewing witnesses. Amanda and Sonny had been watching CCTV until he went for his lunch. Olivia was out at a meeting, and Fin was moaning about how hungry he was. You two interested in getting some lunch today? he asked Nick and Amanda. Amanda looked at Nick as Nick replied, sorry mate, I've got an appointment with my grandfather's lawyer, and Amanda's taking me. Fin looked at them both, yeah right, you two are off for some alone time now the kids are away. Amanda blushed and Nick laughed. No really Fin, I've to sign a few papers at the lawyers, Amanda's taking me as there's no parking at their office. Yeah Amanda finally said, while he's off sorting that I'm going to pick up something for us to eat, and I need to pick up some groceries. You're more than welcome to join me if you want, she laughed. Nah I think I'll pass on that thanks Rollins. Hey, the 3 of us will have lunch tomorrow Nick said, my treat. I'm holding you to that Amaro, Fin replied. Fin said his goodbyes and left Amanda and Nick alone, Amanda sitting on the spare chair at Nick's desk. She sighed, thank God he didn't take me up on that offer she said. Nick laughed, yeah what were you thinking Rollins? I don't know she said, but if I ever do that again, you have permission to hit me she chuckled. He looked at her, I'll never, ever do that to you mi amor he whispered. Amanda smiled, leaned forward and put her hand on his. I know, she replied smiling comfortingly, I didn't mean it like that. He smiled, I know you didn't he said. Maybe I'll smack that sexy ass instead he growled. She smiled shyly, easy you she said.
Just under an hour later Olivia returned as did Carisi. Hey guys she said, I thought you two would have been away by now, yeah Amanda said so did I, but Nick had to make a few phone calls 1st. Carisi asked, you two off out somewhere? Olivia looked at Amanda and raised her eyes. Amanda replied, no, I'm dropping Nick off to an appointment and then heading to get some lunch and groceries. Oh, he said, is he OK? Yeah, as far as I know she smiled. Nick returned, as far as you know what? he asked. Nothing, she smiled at him, Carisi was just asking if we were off somewhere and if you are OK. Nick smiled, yeah, I am thanks man, I've never been better he said smiling. Just tying up a few things with the lawyer he smiled. He turned to Amanda, OK are we ready to go? I was ready 15 minutes ago Amaro she sighed. Ok let's go then he laughed. See you later Liv said. See you two later Amanda said, and she joined Nick in the elevator. When the doors closed, Nick put his arm around her. You ready mi amor? I am she replied smiling at him.
On the drive to the estate agents Amanda said, we'll need to see about putting my house up for sale too Nick. He looked at her and said, yeah I've been thinking about that, I don't think I'm ready for you to sell your house yet. Amanda pulled up to the parking lot. She parked the car and said in a panicked voice why, what's wrong? Nick took her hand and smiled; nothing is wrong my love he said. It's just I was thinking maybe we should rent it out instead. She looked at him confused. Are you trying to tell me something Nick? she asked cautiously. No, he replied and leaned over and kissed her. It's just, I don't think I'm ready to give up our 1st home just yet. She smiled, Ok, and he continued, yeah, it holds too many great memories of me and you, we got together in your house, it's where we 1st made love he smiled, your 1st Christmas tree, our 1st Christmas, the 1st time we said we love each other, He kissed her softly, I'm not sure I want to give that up yet baby he whispered. She sniffed and wiped away a tear…. Well when you put it like that she chuckled, let's think about it for another while he said, there's no rush. Ok she said and kissed him. She composed herself and said, right let's go and see what you've got to do here. He smiled and said, let's go start our new life.
20 minutes later they were walking back out of the estate agents' hand in hand laughing. OK Nick said, I'm driving. Where are we going? To get some quick lunch and take a walk he said, one of my favourite things to do with you he smiled. 10 minutes later they were sitting at a small café across from a quiet park. They finished eating and took their cups with them and walked around the path hand in hand. Just as they were heading back Amanda's phone rang. She sighed as she answered, Rollins…. Hey Amanda, have you got Nick with you? yeah, I've just picked him up she lied, you need us back? Ermm no, have you two had lunch yet? I have yes, Nick's about to get stuck into his now. Nick looked at her confused but playfully raising his eyebrows, Liv what's wrong? she asked. Well Lucy has just phoned to say that Noah's crying and running a temperature but the chief is on his way in here. I was hoping if you were on your way back you could both call in to check on him? Yep we can do that Amanda replied, now feeling guilty for lying to her. We'll be about 10 minutes she said. Thank you Liv replied, I owe you one. Talk to you soon Amanda replied. She hung up and rolled her eyes at Nick, he pulled her closer to him and said, what am I getting stuck into exactly? he playfully said. You were getting stuck into your fake lunch she said, but now we're heading over to check on Noah, Lucy said he's crying and running a temperature. Nick kissed her head and said, lets get going then.
They arrived at Liv's apartment and let themselves in. Lucy was struggling with a screaming Noah. Hey Lucy Amanda said as Nick stepped in and took the little boy from Lucy. Hey, Hey little guy he said, what's got you all hot and bothered? He shushed him and bounced him gently to try and calm him down. He started to take the baby's t-shirt off. After a few minutes, the crying stopped, and Lucy sighed heavily. Amanda returned with a cup of coffee for Lucy and walked over to Nick and Noah, hey little man she cooed, you not feeling too good buddy? The baby sniffled loudly and reached for Amanda. Someone is calming down said Nick as he passed the baby to Amanda. Lucy said, I don't know what happened she said, he's never been like this before, Nick walked over to her and sat down, it's OK he said, you know when something's wrong he smiled. Can you go get the thermometer and we will check him again now he's settled a bit. Sure, she smiled, and headed to Noah's room. Amanda walked over and sat down beside Nick with Noah. He is sweating she said. Yeah, I know, that's why I took his top off. Take his trousers off too babe, see if that helps. Amanda done as he suggested as Noah snuggled into her arm. He leant over and put his hand on the baby's back and talked softly to him. Lucy returned to them and she took his temperature again. Oh, good she said, he's starting to cool down now. Good Nick said, have we any medicine for him? Yeah Lucy said, but getting him to take it is another problem. Nick smiled, go get it and we'll give it a go. As he sat back Noah was starting to fall asleep in Amanda's arms. Hey little guy, no sleepy time yet. Amanda lifted him up and tried to keep him awake. Lucy returned and Nick filled up the syringe for the medicine. Ok little guy let's try this he said softly. Amanda sat him on her knee and held him tight. Noah took half of the medicine before starting to cry again. Hey, hey little man Amanda said, and started to cuddle him again, Nick left holding the remainder of the medicine. Here Amanda said, give it to me and I'll try. She soothed him and let him snuggle into her arm again. As he started to settle, she brought the syringe to his mouth and she shushed him managed to get the rest of the medicine into him. Just as he started to fall asleep her phone started to ring, Nick she leaned forward, answer that, it's probably Liv.
Back at the station Liv was stressing when the Chief walked in. Hey Liv how are you today? he asked. Honestly? not too good at the minute chief she replied, I've just got a call from my sitter saying Noah's not well. He looked concerned, well if you need to go to him… no, it's OK Rollins and Amaro were out on their lunch so I've phoned them to ask them to call in and check on him for me. Chief Dodds smiled, well if you're sure Olivia, she smiled, sorry she said, yes I'm sure, they'll call me if anything is wrong. Why don't you call one of them now he said, and if you need to go, then go. She smiled again, thank you. He smiled and said, go, phone now, I'll wait here. No come on into my office with me she replied, it won't take too long.
Nick answered the phone and told Liv how Noah was doing. Yes, he's cooled down a bit, we've managed to give him some medicine and he's currently sleeping in Amanda's arms. We will hold on for another bit here and make sure he's OK before heading back in ok? Sure Nick, thank you again, and tell Amanda I said thank you. He smiled, no worries Liv. He hung up.
Everything Ok? Chief Dodds asked. She sighed, yeah she replied. Nick says he has cooled down a bit and they have managed to give him some medicine. How they done that is a miracle in itself she laughed. He chuckled. Yeah, baby's and medicine aren't a good combination and smiled. She returned the smile. Well he has fallen asleep on Amanda, so they're going to stay a bit longer then head back in. The chief smiled, I'm glad you have a good team and friends behind you Olivia, and it's good you can call on them to help you when needed. She smiled, I am very lucky she said, and I would do the same for them too. He replied, I know you would. That's what I like about this team Olivia, you all look out for one another, like a big family. I know I can even call on any of you and you will be there. She smiled, of course we will Chief. He smiled, I'm very lucky to have this team too he said. OK what is it you need from us? she asked.
Back at Olivia's apartment Nick hung up the phone and smiled to Amanda, we've the OK to stay a bit longer to make sure he stays settled. He smiled at he as he rubbed her arm while reaching for Noah's forehead. Lucy offered them something to drink. Thanks Lucy he said. While she was in the kitchen making tea, Nick sat back beside Amanda and sighed. He put his hand on her leg and said, You OK mi amor? She turned to him smiling, I am she whispered. He smiled back and said good. He then said I need to use the bathroom, Ok, when you get back you can help me put this one down. As he walked out Lucy returned with the tea for them all. Thanks Lucy said Amanda. Hey, before you sit down, can you pull the covers back in his crib and I'll put him to bed for you. Sure, she replied. Amanda carefully sat forward and managed to stand up with Noah still sleeping. As she carried him into his room she heard Nick flush the toilet. Lucy left Noah's room again as Amanda walked in. As she lay the sleeping boy down, she felt a hand rub her back. She smiled, kissed the sleeping baby then stood back up. There he was waiting to give her a kiss. She smiled against his lips and he whispered, I'm starting to get used to this scene with you. She pecked his lips again and whispered back, me too baby. They walked out as Lucy sat down on the chair. You OK Lucy? Nick asked her. Yeah, she said, sorry for you two having to come by. Not at all he smiled, you felt something was up so we trust your instinct. They finished their tea, told Lucy to have a lie down if she could, and let themselves out.
A few hours later they were all in the squad room and finishing up the last bits of paperwork for Barba. Arraignment is tomorrow morning at 10.30 Benson said, until then that's us done, so off you all go. I'll see you all in the morning. They started to pack up and Amanda said, let us know how Noah is won't you? Of course Olivia replied, and again, thank you for calling in today. Nick smiled, no worries he said, you know we're there if you need us. They all walked to the elevator and when they reached the carpark said their goodbyes. Nick, Amanda and Sonny were all parked beside each other so they chatted as they walked. You any plans for tonight Sonny? Amanda asked. No not tonight he said, I need to do some cleaning at home so might do that and then chill just. What about you? Same here actually she said, I need to have a clear out of some stuff and do a run to the charity shop at some stage so might make a start on that. What about you Nick? Sonny asked Well I was in the middle of my housework when I got called in he chuckled, I got the kids to clear out their room at the weekend so I need to head to a charity shop and the dump he smiled. And there's loads of clothes that they don't wear anymore so will drop them off at the church shelter when I get the chance. Well don't we lead exciting lives laughed Amanda. Sonny and Nick laughed, yeah, we really need to get out more. They reached their cars, and each said goodbye. As Amanda got into her car, she rang Nick. Hey you he replied, miss me already he chuckled? She turned and looked through the windows to him. Yeah, she said, always. She chuckled, anyway, I was phoning to ask if we were still going furniture shopping? If you're up for it he said and she smiled, Of course I am. Ok head to your house, I'll park this and jump into your car and we can head out. Ok he said softly, see you shortly.
