Author's Note: Aaaaas usual, Prom Dresses have been copiously deliberated over and selected from actual episodes. Here's the rundown, keeping in mind that some of these I'm making more floor-length than the original:
Laurel: 2x01
Alex: 2x13
Thea: 4x07
Sara: 2x01
Felicity: 4x20
Kara: 3x08
Iris: 1x18
Caitlin: 3x08 (in the Supergirl episode of the crossover)
Nia: 4x01
Okay, here we go! Sorry for the day's delay; I somehow missed my reminder to post yesterday smh.
It was a good thing Macy's was a part of a mall, because otherwise it wouldn't have been prepared for the group of 9 giggling, giddy girls that tumbled in through the sliding glass doors and beelined to the dresses.
"This is so exciting!" Thea squealed, leaping up and down. "I love dress shopping! I love prom! I love friends! I love prom dress shopping with friends!"
"This is the apex of Thea's life," Iris teased, giggling even more. "It's only downhill from here."
Thea wrinkled her nose at her best friend and darted towards the first rack.
"There's so many," Felicity said, looking around in aw.
Kara made a face, pushing a few dresses aside and then walking to a different rack. "You see so many, I see like two that don't have cutouts or would be itchy or are two pieces."
Iris winced sympathetically. "Girl, you're going cutoutless? Good luck."
"I'll see what I can find," Kara agreed, letting out a sigh as she began to filter though another rack.
Nia was looking around in a way similar to Felicity, eyes wide with all her options. "I don't even know where to start," she admitted. "I don't even know what color I want."
"Traditional prom colors are pastels," Thea advised. She already had two dresses slung over her arms and was starting on the clothing hanging on the wall. "Pinks, light blues... spring colors." She considered. "I don't want something traditional, though, so you might not either."
"I like pink," Nia agreed with a shrug.
Kara sidled up next to Caitlin, who had been pretty quiet so far. "Hey, you okay?" she asked in a low voice, rifling through the dresses in front of her. They were all sparkly and two-piece, but she was hoping there might be an appealing one hidden in their midst.
"Hm?" Caitlin looked up and blinked. "Oh. Yeah, I'm fine." She frowned confusedly. "I don't even want dresses in this style, what am I doing over here?"
Laughing, Kara moved after her to a different rack. "You just seem kind of distracted," she went on. "I just wanted to make sure everything was okay."
"Thanks, Kara," Caitlin replied with a smile. "Everything's fine. I'm just... I'm really nervous to meet Julian's parents, honestly. I mean, we've been dating since the beginning of the school year and this is the first time he's even mentioned wanting me to meet them. And now it's tonight, and I'm really freaked out that they're going to hate me our something."
She let out an anxious laugh, stroking her hand down a dress. "I know it's stupid; most parents don't actually end up hating their kids significant others. But it's... it's hard not to stress out, you know?"
Kara nodded, reaching over to give her hand a squeeze. "You are perfectly entitled to be nervous," she said. "I get it 100%. But I'd say you're a naturally collected, likable person, Caitlin. At the very least, you won't start nervously babbling like I would."
Caitlin laughed. "Thanks, Kara. I guess you're right. But sorry if I'm a little out of it. Just... planning introductory sentences and questions to ask at dinner."
Kara nodded and assured her it was alright before moving on to a different rack.
"Okay!" Iris called after a solid ten minutes of perusing the dresses. "Who's ready to try on?"
"Meeeeeee," Thea cheered. She had no less than seven dresses already draped over her arm, and eagerly followed Iris and the other girls into the dressing room.
There weren't enough cubicles for all nine of them, so the two pairs of sisters let Thea, Iris, Caitlin, Nia and Felicity go first. Felicity came back out pretty quickly wearing a sparkly blue dress and a 'meh' kind of face. "I don't love it," she said, peering at herself in a mirror.
"Yeah, it's not screaming yes to me, either," Kara agreed. "You have any more?"
"Yeah, I got a pink one that I liked; I'll go try that on." Felicity slipped back inside the dressing room in time for Nia to come out. She spun, and the four girls waiting clapped, but she was quick to go try on another dress.
The girls slowly went through their options. The first person to find what they liked was, surprisingly, Kara, who had swapped with Nia while she went to keep looking for dresses.
"Thoughts...?" Kara asked hesitantly, stepping out of the dress room in a gorgeous, pale pink dress with lace and beading and zero cutouts.
"Kara," Alex gaped. "Kara, that's gorgeous."
"Oh honey that's it," Iris agreed, just coming into the dressing room with more cloth draped over her arm. "I love it."
"Me too," Kara agreed excitedly, bouncing a little and grinning. "And it's modest, and it's not that expensive! This is it! Haha, I beat you all. I'm gonna change and then who wants my dressing room?"
Caitlin took it, and the next dress she tried on had her sold. "This is pretty," she declared, smoothing down a flowy pink dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves and an elegant slit near the bottom.
Felicity nodded, poking her head out of her dressing room to take a look. "It is," she agreed, and held up an identical dress. "I actually just tried it on, too... but I think it looks better on you."
"Oh, if you want to wear this one you totally go ahead," Caitlin told her hurriedly. "I didn't realize you had grabbed it."
"And this is why we shop together!" Thea called from her own dressing room. "Can you imagine how much of a prom disaster that would have been if you two had bought the same dress?"
Felicity and Caitlin both shrugged, unconcerned.
"It's okay though, seriously," Felicity went on. "I have another one that's kind of like this, just with a darker pink that I'm gonna try on. That color just looks so good on you."
Sara came out of her dressing room, complimented Caitlin on her dress, and slouched on to a bench. "I can't find one," she sighed. "I wanted to do a blue one because that's Leonard's favorite color, but I just don't like them that much."
Thea popped her head out of her dressing room, shoulders (and presumably the rest of her) bare. "How about this?" she suggested, tossing a dress in Sara's direction.
Sara frowned. "Um... this is yellow," she said, wrinkling her nose. "Wait, Thea, are you color blind?"
"No," Thea groaned, pulling back inside the dressing room. "But I'm sure that Leonard will think you look just as beautiful in a yellow dress as he does in a blue one."
"Okay," Sara sighed, getting up and swapping with Laurel.
Laurel peeped into the mirror and was unable to resist smiling at her own reflection. She was dressed in floor length coral gown with a rounded neckline, the excess cloth making elegant ripples at the front of the dress. "Thoughts...?"
"YES!" Sara called from the dressing room.
"Yes," Alex agreed, smiling widely at her. "That color is killer."
"You may be the only person in the world who can pull off coral," Thea agreed as she stepped out of the dressing room and spun. She was wearing a dark red dress that had a pattern like a lace doily over a nude base, a high neck, and a diamond cutout in the back.
"Thea you look amazing," Nia gaped as she stepped into the room with a new armload of dresses, awed.
"Eh, I don't love it," Thea shrugged.
"I do," Alex spoke up. "Can I give that one a try?"
Thea nodded her agreement and ducked back into the dressing room. "I'm going to go look through evening gowns," she called to the other girls. "I want something a little different."
The red dress Thea rejected Alex absolutely loved, and she ended up choosing it after trying on a few more. Nia had also found her dress, and came out in a slightly more beachy style gown, with a long, fluttery overlay of fabric at the top and thin straps tied around her neck. It was peach, with black and white flowers, and she took one look in the mirror and grinned. "And this girl is officially good to go."
Kara, done trying on dresses and now sitting and playing judge, applauded. "Gorgeous," she agreed.
"Theaaaaa," Sara hollered from her dressing room. "Come see the dressssss..."
"She went to look at more dresses, Sara," Kara told her, laughing. "Come on out?"
Sara popped out of her cubicle wearing a lacy yellow dress with an empire waistline and pleats. The straps were thick and bunched, also lacy. "I like it," she declared. "I'm gonna get it."
"You sure?" Iris asked dubiously, laughing. "You know Thea won't ever let it go that she found your prom dress."
Sara shrugged. "I don't care," she replied. "It's cute."
Thea agreed on that sentiment when she saw the dress. "Hahahaaa!" she cried. "I found your prom dress! Go me!"
"Told you," Iris sighed, before coming out of her dressing room. "Yay or Nay?"
"Definitely yay," Thea gushed, gazing at the grey-blue, skintight dress Iris had on. It had lacy detailing over a base for the majority of the dress, but the arms were just cutouts and the neckline was delicately scalloped. "You like it?"
"I love it," Iris decided, grinning. "Originally I had grabbed a pink one but it looked a lot like Kara's and I think this one's better, anyway. The other one was a little floofy for my tastes."
Thea laughed. "Can I steal your dressing room?" she requested. "I found two more that I'm dying to try."
They swapped, and Felicity stepped out at that moment. True to her word, she had found a dress with a similar cut of floor-length and off-the-shoulder, but this one was almost magenta and had a defined strap across the neckline. "What do you guys think?" she asked, pushing up her glasses awkwardly as she smoothed her hands down the dress. "I think I really like it."
"I think that's the one," Kara agreed, enamored. "Aww, guys, we're all finding dresses!"
"Thea, you're the last one," Iris added. "Pressure's on."
"Pressure's off," Thea countered, and stepped out of the dressing room.
One wouldn't look at Thea's dress and think 'prom', but that was what she was going for. The garment was silver with burgundy flowers and stopped about mid calf, leading into a floor-length extension of sheer black fabric. The neckline was high and the sides were open, just covered with black lace. There was more black lace detailing on the edges of the dress' bodice, and a keyhole slit at the back.
"Whoa," Sara said, mouth falling open.
Thea grinned. "That's what I was going for," she said happily.

Once the dresses had been paid for (and there had been much cringing over the prices), the girls made their way back out of Macy's with their prom clothing in giant plastic bags. Caitlin checked her phone. "Julian should be here soon," she said. "He's picking me up to bring me to dinner."
At that moment, a black Bentley pulled into the parking lot. Kara whistled. "Dang that's a nice car for a Junior to be driving."
"Rich parents," Caitlin replied with a laugh. "Hopefully... nice parents, too."
Felicity put an arm around her shoulders and gave her a squeeze. "Good luck," she wished.
"FaceTime us to tell us how it went when you get home!" Thea suggested eagerly. "Then it'll be like you're at the sleepover. And we can get the tea."
Caitlin nodded her agreement and was passed around for hugs, all of them careful not to crush their dresses. "Okay, love you all," she said as her boyfriend got out of the car. "I'll see you guys later."
"Bye!" Iris waved, and Caitlin hurried across the parking lot.
Julian met her with a hug. "How did it go?" he asked with a smile, giving the other girls a friendly wave before walking around the car to open Caitlin's door.
"It went well," Caitlin replied, glad that her new dress was concealed from him. A girl had to have some secrets before prom. "And hopefully, this will, too."
Julian cringed, a reaction that did nothing for Caitlin's confidence. "You don't really think it'll go that badly, will you?" she asked almost pleadingly as he got into the drivers seat and they both buckled.
"No," Julian relented. He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. "Hopefully."
"Julian," she groaned, putting her head in her hands.
They arrived at the restaurant a few minutes early, but Julian's parents were already seated. Julian spotted them halfway across the restaurant and reached for Caitlin's hand, giving it a squeeze. "No matter what happens," he said bracingly. "I love you."
"I love you, too," Caitlin replied, her heart melting a little as she squeezed his hand right back. "Let's do this."
The Alberts stood up when Caitlin and Julian approached. "Hi," Caitlin said, reaching out a hand. "I'm Caitlin Snow. I think we've seen each other in passing before."
"Yes, after the school shooting," Mrs. Albert agreed, shaking Caitlin's hand. "It's nice to meet you, Caitlin."
"Likewise," Caitlin replied, shaking Mr. Albert's hand next. He nodded at her, virtually expressionless.
The four of them were seated and Caitlin laid her napkin in her lap and then folded her hands on top of it. "My mom should be here soon," she said, not daring to take out her phone and see if she had texted for fear of seeming rude. "Sometimes her work goes a little late."
"What does your mother do for work?" Mrs. Albert asked, pleasantly enough.
"She's a scientist," Caitlin replied.
"That's a very broad statement."
Caitlin smiled a little. "Right now she's working on an alternate treatment for cancer that doesn't include radiation," she summarized. "I'm sure she'll be able to explain it further to you once she gets here."
"A cure for cancer," Mrs. Albert replied, nodding appreciatively. "That's quite the goal. You must be very proud."
Caitlin nodded and a long silence fell. She squirmed a little, uncomfortable, and felt Julian's hand fall onto her knee.
"What do you do for work?" Caitlin blurted. "You and Mr. Albert both, I mean."
"Oh, I don't work," Mrs. Albert replied demurely.
"I'm the chief executive of a few high-end companies back in England," Mr. Albert answered.
"Oh, your job is still in England?" Caitlin looked surprised. "How does that work with you living America?"
"Father travels a lot," Julian put in. "There's quite a bit of back and forth."
"Why did you decide to move to America?" Caitlin questioned, feeling a little strange that she should have to keep the entire conversation going but ready to try anything to keep there from being that silence again.
Mrs. Albert raised a perfect eyebrow. "Julian hasn't told you?"
He had. But Caitlin really just wanted to keep them talking.
She was saved answering by the arrival of Carla, who should have seemed frazzled at being so late but instead walked in quite sedately. "Dr. Tanhausser," she introduced herself.
Julian's parents shook hands with her and Carla took a seat next to her daughter. "I apologize for my late arrival," she said as she hung her coat over the back of her chair and picked up the menu to look over dinner options. "I got a bit... involved, at the lab."
"No worries," Mr. Albert said.
"I notice that you and your daughter don't have the same last name," Mrs. Albert spoke up.
Dr. Tanhausser raised her eyebrows somewhat impressively, not taking the bait that Mrs. Albert's words had been prompting a response.
Caitlin stepped in to avoid any awkwardness. "My dad's last name was Snow," she explained, and felt Julian's grip tighten on her leg. "When my mom got married she already had a big enough title for herself that she didn't want to change her last name. But they decided to name me Caitlin Snow instead of Caitlin Snow-Tanhausser or Caitlin Tanhausser to make it up to my dad, in a way. Though..." she glanced over at her mother for clarification. "I don't think dad had much of an issue with it."
"He never had much of an issue with anything I did," Carla rejoined with a wry smile. "Whether or not he was right in the opinion I still haven't decided."
The Albert's smiled politely. "I take it that he... passed," Mrs. Albert said delicately.
"Yes," Carla replied. "When Caitlin was ten."
"That must have been very hard."
Carla looked over at her daughter, eyes skimming over her face. "We manage," she replied, the corners of her mouth lifting a little.
Caitlin smiled down at her hands. If nothing else good came out of this dinner, that comment would make it more than okay enough.

After Caitlin parted ways with her friends, the eight remaining girls piled into a few cars and headed to Thea's house. It didn't take them long to get set up with their sleeping bags and pillows.
"I wish Caitlin didn't have to miss this," Thea pouted. "I hate the idea of someone getting left out."
"See, that's what I like about you," Nia said thoughtfully. "You, Iris and Sara are the semi-traditional 'popular kids' of AV High, but you're not a super-clique."
"Aww, thanks," Iris said, putting her hand over her heart. "We try. See, if we were a super-clique we wouldn't get to know anyone so we wouldn't get any tea and that simply wouldn't do."
"Ahhh, so there's an ulterior motive, I see," Nia laughed.
"Okay, guys, I have the best sleepover activity," Laurel announced after a moment. "Horoscopes."
"OMG yes," Thea said, jumping on the idea immediately. "But you know what's even better than the stupid like, weekly fortune stuff? Relationship horoscopes. There's this site where you can put in your sign and the other person's sign and see your compatibility and it's so fun."
"Let's do it!" Felicity agreed, straightening up on her sleeping bag.
Kara grabbed for her phone. "I don't know my horoscope," she admitted. Alex crowded behind her to find out hers, too, and soon Thea had her favorite site up.
"Okay, who's starting?" she asked, ready to put in the first horoscope.
"You," Sara told her.
Thea clicked Aries and then put Sagittarius in for Roy. "Moment of truth..." she muttered. "Ooh! Intimacy is a 95%..."
"Oooooh," Sara teased.
Thea shoved her. "Trust is only a 70, darn. Communication is a 90, emotions are a 90, values are a 70, and shared activities are a 99!" She let out an incredulous laugh. "Okay this is officially wrong. We do not have 99% of our interests in common."
"No you do not," Iris agreed, snickering.
"Oh my gosh, look at this-" Thea giggled. "It says in the summary that we might have to defend our relationship to other people," she looked at Iris and Sara and wrinkled her nose. "Aka youuu."
"It also says that you can't go crazy about your differences," Laurel said, skimming the screen. "So go you, Thea."
They moved on to Iris and Barry next. "Leo and Pisces..." Thea murmured.
Iris read her results and let out a cackle. "1 percent intimacy!" she squealed, falling over on the sleeping bag. "That's not true!"
"And 1 percent trust!" Thea added as she kept scrolling. "35 for communication, 15 for emotions, 20 for values and 10 for shared interests- this is so wrong omg."
"Which is weird because Barry and I are pretty like our horoscopes, generally," Iris mused, sitting back up. "Well, I won't take it too personally. Who's next?"
"Let's do me and Maggie," Alex urged, weirdly feeling a little nervous. Obviously these results were stupid and meant nothing, but she liked to be affirmed in her relationship.
She was disappointed. She and Maggie had incredibly low scores, with a 1 for intimacy and emotions (not true), a 5 for values, 10 for shared activities, 25 for communication, and the highest, a 50, for trust.
"Oof," Alex said, making a face. "Welp, we did better than Barry and Iris so I feel like I should take some comfort from that."
"Guys, I'm dying," Felicity declared. "I need to know if Oliver and I are a match made in the heavens." She grinned. "Get it? Because horoscopes and stars, and the stars are in the-"
"Yeah, I got it," Nia laughed. "I liked that one."
"I'm a Sagittarius like Roy," Felicity said, leaning over Thea's shoulder. "Oliver is a... I actually have no idea."
"Taurus," Thea supplied promptly, putting in the signs. "25% intimacy... 5% trust... 50% communication, not bad. 25% emotions, and 20% shared activities!"
"Is it bad that I think all of those are legit except trust?" Felicity asked with a wince to end all winces, laying back on the floor.
"It says in the summary that you seem perfect on the outside but aren't really all that attracted to each other," Thea answered with a deep sigh. "Guys we're all going to be so insecure in our relationships after this- I'm so sorry."
"Except you..." Alex said suspiciously, squinting at her. "I declare this to be rigged!"
She and Laurel immediately started attacking Thea with pillows and soon the room was a mess of squeals and rolling bodies.
When everyone had calmed down and returned to the computer, Sara and Leonard were looked at next.
"Ooh!" Sara said eagerly. "A 65 for intimacy, an 85 for trust- that is true. 90 for communication, oh only 40 for emotions; I disagree. Then 30 for values and oh my gosh- 99 for shared activities; that's hilarious. Emotions should be higher and shared activities should be lower. But a total of 68, could be worse."
Laurel frowned. "Is it weird to anyone else that all of these scores are multiples of five except they throw in a 99 and 1? Like what's with that?"
"Can't be zero, can't be 100," Thea shrugged. "I have no idea why, though. Mauahaha, Roy and I still beat all of you with our whopping 87% compatibility."
"I claim next," Kara said. "Aries for me, Aquarius for Mon-El- wait a minute, Sara, that's the same as you! Whoa no way... we are way higher than a thirty for shared values!"
"Aww, Kara, we have the same relationship horoscopes!" Sara said happily linking arms with her. "How cool is that?"
"Pretty cool," Kara agreed with a grin.
The last person to go was Nia, because poor Laurel was the only girl there without a boyfriend or even a guy she was interested in. Kara crossed her fingers. "Okay... rooting for Brainia here..."
"Annnnd we start with a stunning 80% intimacy," Thea began.
Nia laughed outright. "We haven't even kissed yet," she said, wrinkling her nose.
"A 95 for trust, 60 for communication, 90 for emotions, 95 for values and 85 for shared activities but guess what, Roy and I still win because your total is only 78 percent haHA!"
"This was such a bad idea," Iris groaned. "She's going to be lording this over us forever."
"True," Sara agreed with a nose wrinkle. "But hey, at least none of us were as bad as Westallen."
Iris shoved her.
"We fully agree," Alex spoke up. "That all of this stays here, correct? No significant others find out?"
Though they had done it for good fun, the other girls immediately agreed that that was probably the best plan.
Author's Note: Ohhhh horoscopes. That was wicked fun. Kind of funny that Westallen (who's cannonically considered the "golden standard) got such a low score XD
I will add that I planned all these birthdays completely randomly, so these horoscope scores were also completely random. Also I used a real site to calculate these, so thanks to that site.
Funny note about Julian and Caitlin's plot (finally found one for them they've been floating in nothingness lately): I actually wrote a story awhile ago that had Caitlin meeting Julian's parents. I guess I just like that plot with the two of them XD
