Ginny and Athena couldn't seem to find Adeleine for her life. They knew that Marion's potion would be done by then and they had to tell her everything they knew. Apparently, Draco hadn't seen his girlfriend anywhere either.
She didn't even show up to their study date in the afternoon which had left him extremely disappointed. He didn't know where she was. The last time he had seen her was the previous night when he had dropped her off to the entrance of the Ravenclaw common room.
According to Athena, Adeleine never even showed up in their room and hadn't gone to sleep in her bed. The even weirder thing was that Marion was nowhere to be found. Marion hadn't shown up to any of her classes that day either and even her minions hadn't seen her all day.
"I think we should report her missing to McGonagall," Ginny said worriedly.
Athena nodded, along with everyone else, "You think they'll be able to find her?"
"I hope so" Neville muttered, glancing at Draco who had been pacing back and forth for the past 5 minutes.
The portrait door to the Slytherin common room opened, revealing Adeleine in the same exact dress as the previous night. The group immediately ran over to the girl in worry.
"Where have you been?" Ginny yelled scoldingly and Adeleine merely laughed at the girl.
Adeleine smiled at the group, "Sorry I didn't tell you, but I went back to get to know my father better again. He truly has changed and his fiance is really nice. I was surprised."
Ginny and Athena smiled warily at the brown haired girl. They didn't think the girl was lying, but they weren't sure why she wouldn't have told them in the first place or why she would need to see her father in the middle of the night after a whole night of getting to know him better.
"Where did you stay?" Athena asked quietly and Adeleine tilted her head.
"My fathers house" she answered calmly with a small smile on her lips.
Everyone nodded nervously.
Adeleine raised an eyebrow at everyone, "Are you guys done interrogating me?"
"Yeah, sorry" Theo was the first to answer, "We were just worried, that's all."
Adeleine chuckled, nodding. She was glad to have such good friends like them, "It's alright. I'm okay now."
Ginny nodded before beginning to speak, "We have so many things that we have to tell you."
Adeleine tilted her head slightly to the right, raising her brow at the red head girl. "What about?"
Ginny and Athena all gestured to the table as everyone else followed, taking seats around the couches. Draco wrapped an arm around Adeeline's waist, pulling her into his chest.
She took the chance to kiss him on the cheek and snuggle into his chest as Ginny and Athena had begun to present their case like it was a class presentation.
"Okay, so Bleu may or may not have told us some shit about psycho bitch" Ginny started and Adeleine inferred that psycho bitch was Marion. She nodded, allowing for Ginny to continue speaking. "So Athena and I were doing our own shit, homework and stuff when he comes up to us and tells us that Marion is planning something big. So logically, we follow her."
"What did he say?" Adeleine asked almost in demand.
"Well, he just said that Marion had been planning this for a long time and that we should try to figure out what it is" Ginny spoke with a small shrug.
Adeleine's jaw was clenched as she tilted her head to crack her neck. Her fists were balled up as Ginny continued to speak.
"And you guys believed him?" Adeleine continued to question, "I mean for all we know he could have been easily lying and led you guys straight into a trap. He's related to her."
Ginny and Athena both had confused looks on their faces. Why couldn't Adeleine just accept the fact that Marion was planning something deviously evil and listen to them? They also didn't understand why Adeleine continued questioning them about Jackson when she was also friends with him.
"What are you talking about? We know Jackson's nice. He fucking hates Marion" Ginny replied, scoffing and spitting her words with a slight malice that Adeleine detected.
"I'm just saying" Adeleine snapped back with a shrug. "You never know, but please go on."
Adeleine rolled her eyes at Ginny's snappy attitude and tilted her head back up to Draco. He narrowed his eyes down at her, confused as to why she was picking a fight with Ginny when they were only trying to help.
"Are you feeling alright, love?" Draco asked, his right hand covering her forehead to feel her temperature.
Adeleine nodded shortly, smiling at the boy to make him think that she was fine. "I'm alright, just a little tired I guess."
Draco nodded in understanding. If she had gone back to get to know her dad better, then of course she would be tired and that was why she was snapping at Ginny.
"We can sleep in a bit. Just let them explain, okay?" he said softly and she closed her eyes, leaning her head into his chest and nodded.
Ginny began to speak again, "So when Athena and I had begun to follow her, we found out that she was making a potion in Myrtle's bathroom."
Draco felt Adeleine stiffen against him and he tilted his head to hers. "Are you alright?"
Adeleine quickly put on a fake smile and nodded. "Just scared is all. I mean, she's insane and we don't know what she's capable of."
Draco took his hand in hers and rubbed his thumb against her hand in soothing circles. "Hey, I'm here. She's never going to touch you. She has to get through all of us, okay?"
She gave a strained smile, tightening her hold on Draco's hand as they continued to pay attention back to Ginny.
"At first we had no clue what potion she was making because I don't fucking pay attention in class and Athena's well, Athena" Ginny said, making everyone collectively chuckle except for Adeleine who was intently listening. "Okay, well then we searched everywhere in books and again I say, we are fucking dumb so we couldn't find it, but you know how we did it. Because Addy, you are a fucking beautiful genius with that big brain of yours."
Adeleine's face did not even waver at the jokes that Ginny were making to make the situation seem lighthearted. She could care less about the stupid comedic act that Ginny was attempting to put on and rose an unimpressed brow.
Everyone would have thought that Adeleine would at least give a small smile at the joke, but her face remained stoic and almost bored like. Draco tried to think that maybe it was the sleep taking over, but he wasn't so sure.
"Anyways, with the help of Addy here, Athena and I figured out that she was planning to use polyjuice potion. We couldn't find the potion yesterday when you and Malfoy were at the ball, but she hasn't been seen all day. For a second we thought she got you, but you're here" Ginny finished and Adeleine nodded.
"So, how are we supposed to stop her if we can't find her?" Adeleine asked with an eyebrow raised. "I mean, what was she even planning to do with the potion. She wouldn't even be able to turn into me because she hasn't even been near me."
Ginny's smile faltered, "I know we might not be able to do much now, but we can go to McGonagall-"
"No!" Adeleine jumped out, causing everyone to flinch and contort their faces to confusion. "I mean, we should try to figure it out and make sure she's actually planning something dangerous before we tell McGonagall."
Ginny squinted her eyes at the girl before her. It was like Adeleine Wood had been possessed by an evil spirit because she was not acting like herself at all. Everyone could tell, but maybe it was all from sleep deprivation.
"Are you sure?" Athena spoke up in a questioning voice. "I think we should tell her because, even though Marion hasn't acted yet, doesn't mean she won't."
"I'm just saying we should make sure that there's even something to report. You don't have to potion so you have no evidence that she even was planning something. If you report it to McGonagall and they don't find anything then you'll all look like fools" Adeleine reasoned and Ginny understood where she was coming from.
But there was no way that Marion was going to make an illegal polyjuice potion for absolutely nothing. Even though the devilish veela hadn't even moved her chess piece on the board yet, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be prepared.
Although, Ginny did not have the authority to make that decision. It was up to Adeleine and Draco give a final decision since the whole situation revolved around them.
"Addy, I understand that, but we should tell McGonagall regardless" Ginny argued passionately and Adeleine stood up challengingly.
"It's not your decision to make. It's mine and I don't want to tell anyone yet" Adeleine spat. "I could care less about what you want to do."
Ginny scoffed at the girl. She physically could not believe what Adeleine was saying. Something was absolutely wrong and she would find out.
Draco cleared his throat at the growing tension. "I-I think that we'll think about it first. Clearly, Adeleine needs some sleep so we're going to go to sleep and we'll convene later, alright?'
Ginny nodded stiffly, turning her back to the girl and storming out of the Slytherin common room. The non-Slytherins walked followed, muttering their goodbyes as they followed Ginny out.
Theo and Blaise stayed behind to continue their game of chess that had been interrupted, but the two wouldn't be able to focus. There was something off about everything that had happened because they both knew that Adeleine would never react to something like that.
Draco dragged Adeleine to his private quarters and slammed the door shut. He didn't know what was going on with her because it was so unlike her to just snap at Ginny when all the poor girl was trying to do was help.
"Why are you acting like this?" he asked immediately, casting a silencing charm on the room so that no would be able to hear their conversation.
Adeleine put her hands on her hips and scoffed, "Are you serious? Well, I'm sorry if I was just voicing what I wanted to do."
Draco shook his head, "She was only trying to help us out and you're being an absolute bitch to her."
It was like Adeleine had a complete 180 because all of a sudden she was running to him with open arms and wrapping her arms around him. Draco was never a person for hugs, but whenever she hugged him, a warm feeling bubbled up in his chest.
For some reason, he didn't feel that now. Maybe it was because Adeleine was in some sort of mood and snapping at everyone for no good reason, but he just didn't feel the butterflies that made their way into his chest and fluttered about whenever she was smiling.
"I'm sorry" she immediately apologized, crocodile tears forming in her eyes as she began to sob. "I'm just so stressed out and with everything that's going on. I'm sorry."
Draco immediately felt sympathy for the girl and she knew that. Of course he would, she was his girlfriend. She could say anything and he would believe her. How naive.
"Hey, hey it's okay baby" he shushed her, petting her hair and kissing her forehead. "I'm sure Ginny understands. I'm here with you, there's nothing to worry about."
Adeleine nodded and Draco's shirt now had a wet patch inside. He could care less about the shirt as he continued to calm his girlfriend down.
"Let's go to sleep, okay?" he said softly and she nodded.
Immediately, she felt her fingers growing longer and her sapphire blue eyes, contorting into light blue ones. "On second thought," Adeleine said, panic indicated in her voice, "I'm going to use the restroom. I'll be back!"
Adeleine slammed the bathroom door shut and Draco shook his head, confused at the girl's behavior, but let it go. The brown hair began fading into a shade of light blond as the girl grabbed the flask that was hidden under her dress, attached to her thigh.
The girl took another swig of the potion, cringing at the taste and hid the flask under a loose tile she found next to the toilet. She glanced at the mirror once again, making sure her appearance was ready before walking out.
"Do you have anything for me to wear?" Adeleine asked. "This dress is kind of uncomfortable to sleep in."
Draco immediately nodded, getting up from the bed to grab her a t-shirt from his drawer and a pair of his boxers. He helped her get out of her dress, unzipping the back as she changed in front of him.
He was surprised that she wasn't shy around him as she usually was, but didn't mind it. Adeleine would usually try to stop him from looking at her when she was changing, but he didn't mind this new change.
"Just get some rest love" he said, kissing her forehead lightly before the girl dozed off inside his bed, wearing a large white t-shirt and a pair of his black boxers.
