Summer Bay Beach
"Kyle, mate wait up!" Heath shouts as he runs over to his brother, feeling bad as Kyle turns to face him. "You overheard me this morning, didn't you?"
"The part where you said you find it hard hanging out with me now because it's basically boring or the part where you said you can do more with Lucas and Tyler?" Kyle asks. "If you hate having me around that much, why didn't you just tell me instead of talking about me behind my back? I get that we don't have much in common but we worked around that, it thought it was better than nothing."
"It is, I love hanging out with you. I didn't mean any of it in a bad way-"
"Just be honest with me for once, Heath! I know you would never choose me over Tyler, like you said, you've got a lot in common with him and he's some great surfer, and I don't even surf, even Lucas chose to take up surfing." Kyle scoffs, shaking his head. "I'm not stupid, I just thought it didn't matter that I wasn't like you guys."
"It doesn't matter! You will always come first, I don't care that we have nothing in common, you're my little brother and you gave me a reason to stay in the Bay when you turned up." Heath says. "I didn't fit in with Brax and Casey, they never let me in when they hung out and I was ready to leave this place for good, then you turned up and I finally had a brother to do stuff with."
"You have Tyler and Lucas to do stuff with now. They surf, they're into football, they're into basketball… I'm just the odd one out who isn't sporty or outgoing. You can do more with them, just admit it!" Kyle argues.
"Fine, yeah I can do more with them because they like the same stuff, but it doesn't matter to me!" Heath says.
"Yes it does." Kyle mutters, quickly walking away down the beach.
"Kyle!" Heath sighs, feeling like he made things a lot worse by being honest, but he really did like having Kyle around, no matter their differences.
Surf Club
"Did you get a chance to speak to Kyle?" Brax asks. "I went to find Lucas on my shift but Casey said he went into Yabbie Creek, and I didn't have time to go there."
"I did speak to Kyle, it just got a bit heated." Heath says. "More on his part. Turns out he was the one who overheard me and Bianca, he's really taken it to heart and wouldn't believe me when I said it didn't matter to me. He walked off and his phone is going straight to voicemail." Heath replies.
"I'll go and look for him." Brax says, walking around the bar. "Bianca came in looking for you, she wanted to talk to you about something."
"Where did she go?" Heath asks as he walks out with Brax.
"To the diner with Ricky. She asked me to let you know that she'll be there awhile if you want to meet her when you're free." Brax says, seeing Casey and Tyler outside of the gym.
"Okay." Heath nods, walking over to his two brothers as Brax walks out of the Surf Club.
"What did you do to my triplets?" Tyler asks, staring firmly at him.
"We know it has something to do with you and neither of them are in the mood to talk to us." Casey says.
"Since when were you two best friends?" Heath asks.
"Don't change the subject." Casey says. "You know Brax and Ricky were having relationship troubles because of this family and you're lucky they've worked through it. Don't give Ricky a reason to turn her back on this family for good because we like having her around."
"You go marry her then." Heath jokes.
"No, she's basically a big sister to me!" Casey glares. "Now tell us what happened."
"I need to go and meet Bianca in the diner."
"We both know she'll wait for you." Tyler says, having seen her before she left with Ricky.
"It's just some stuff between me and Kyle, you don't need to get involved. I don't know why it caused him and Lucas to fall out, actually I kinda do but it's going to get sorted." Heath says.
The Headland
"Thought I'd find you up here." Brax says, sitting down against a rock next to his brother.
"How?" Kyle asks. "Actually, let me guess. I told you I came up here for time out when I was drunk?"
"Yeah, you did." Brax lightly smiles. "I can understand why, it's peaceful up here."
"Why did you come?"
"Heath told me the chat he had with you didn't go very well." Brax says.
"Yeah." Kyle whispers, looking down at his hands as he twiddles his fingers together.
"Talk to me." Brax says, nudging Kyle when he stays silent.
"I don't feel like I belong here anymore." Kyle mutters.
"Why, what's changed?" Brax asks.
"You all have things you do together, even Tyler and Lucas do… I don't have that with any of you. I've never been sporty or outgoing like the rest of you." Kyle says.
"Why do you think that would matter to us? You're our brother and we enjoy having you around. We don't care that you can't surf or don't enjoy watching the footy with us. You've still got us either way." Brax says.
"No I don't. Even the River Boys said I don't belong with any of you and the little things prove that. I've always struggled fitting into things, I was bullied for it all throughout school. I thought it would have changed when I moved here but it hasn't. I can't stay somewhere I don't feel welcome and don't fit into."
"Kyle, don't you dare listen to the River Boys, they had no right to say that to you. We are your family and we want you here, I want you here. I wish you told me sooner so we could have found things for us all to do. We're your family, doesn't that count for something?" Brax asks, getting a shrug in reply. "Where would you even go?"
"I met up with Emily after overhearing Heath… She's been offered a huge modelling job in New York, her dream job." Kyle sadly scoffs. "I don't want to lose her but that's going to happen if I don't go with her."
"Can't she turn it down?" Brax asks.
"They're going to let her go from the company if she turns another opportunity like this down. And this is with the biggest modelling company in the world. She wouldn't stop talking about it when we first started dating, she made it clear if she ever got the chance to go to New York for it, then she was going to accept. I never thought it would happen this soon and I don't want to move to a country I don't know anyone when she would be away all the time." Kyle sighs.
"Have you spoken to her about this?" Brax says.
"I tried to but she was so excited and talking about all the amazing things she could do while she's there." Kyle replies.
"So it's only a short time she'll be there?"
"No, it's a full time contract, so years." Kyle says. "I couldn't tell her I didn't want her to take it, or me to stay here when it made her so happy."
"You can't keep this from her." Brax says. "Please, just stop putting other people first and focus on you. I don't want to see you like this, but you have to help yourself."
"I don't know how to do that." Kyle says, glancing at Brax.
"Then let me help you, okay?" Brax says.
"Okay." Kyle nods. "Just no fake weddings this time." He jokes.
"Got it." Brax smirks. "It'll be real this time."
"Really?" Kyle frowns.
"Me and Rick had a chance to chat, well more than one chat, but we want the wedding to be this year like we originally told people." Brax says. "The problems we've been having are hopefully in the past now so we can move on and finally focus on what matters."
"Are you hinting that I need to focus on what matters as well?" Kyle asks.
"You caught on that?" Brax smirks.
"I… I would be grateful for your help." Kyle says, not finding that easy to say. "I don't think I could do it by myself."
"There's no question about it, you've always got me on your side." Brax says, pulling Kyle close. "I know things have been really hectic for a while now but I'm hoping things will be different from now on. Tyler is apparently doing great with his counselling, so that must be good."
"I really want things to change." Kyle sighs. "But I don't want things to change."
"I get what you mean, but most of it will be for the better. You don't have to keep things to yourself, no one will think differently of you if you speak up when needed."
"Thanks." Kyle smiles.
