CHAPTER 57: The Deception Between The Void And The Crime (Fandom: Dark Deception)

(Apologize for being late, life happened. You get this chapter a day early as an apology.)

(This chapter is canonically between Chapter 28: Alone In The Void Boogaloo With No VOICE To Hear You and Chapter 46: There's A Body, Where's The Crime? If you go back to read them, be warned that they are very dark. You should be able to read this without knowledge of them however.)

Dfn'kd woke up with a startled scream, grabbing onto his throat to stem the bleeding that… should have been happening.

He glanced around the room he found himself in, something a far cry from where he was before. The emptiness of the void that was suffocating and he was suffocating! No, focus on the now and the ballroom he was currently in. He put his hand back down, head looking down after it when he felt the smooth screen of his tablet.

"Oh! Another one. How nice to have some company again. Come over here. Let's have a look at you..."

He looked back up at the sound of another in the room with him. She didn't sound like the one who killed him, but she stood in the shadows with only jewelry of purple shining out…

"Who are you?" He asked.

The mystery woman stepped out, revealing someone who had none of the signs of being a fellow employee. "My name is Bierce, now don't be shy, come here," she said, waving him over.

He slowly stood up, wobbling slightly, and stepped closer.

She hummed before saying, "You disappoint me love. You really do... So many fears... So many desires... I thought you'd be bigger."

He looked down at himself, noticing how the form he was in now was very skinny and short, although not much more than the average human.

That was it though, 'Average Human'. Every drop of Void in him was gone and here he stood, human all the way through.

"Don't look so confused... I know everything you've got hidden in that brain of yours. I know all the terrible things you've done. So many good intentions laid to waste... I can see the regret, eating away at your soul…"

He couldn't help but comment, "The regrets of being murdered?"

She gave him a look, "That and others…"

Well, if she knew what was in his head, she would have known he wasn't human. Given her actions, she didn't.

She continued to speak, "Now your time has come and here you are, to grovel and beg. You can't go back. Only death awaits you there now. Fear not love, you've got potential! I see it in you, and I can help change your fate. But if you want a new life, you're going to have to suffer quite a bit to get it."

A chance to get back at the one who killed him? To prevent her from killing others?

"Tell me what I have to do."

She smirked, "Eager are we? The pieces to a powerful ring are hidden in nightmares behind each of these portals. Find them, and bring them to me. And you'll get your wish. Fail, and you'll find there are fates far worse than death awaiting you here."

To the side was a deep, echoing boom as a red portal opened up, attracting his attention.

"Clock's ticking…" she said as she walked over to beside it.

He looked down at his tablet. He is Dfn'kd, he figured out how the door was broken when no one else could. He could rewire this tablet to find the ring pieces on the fly.

He confidently stepped through the portal, as confident as someone getting used to human legs instead of gooey imitations could at least.

! #$%^&*()

"Well she didn't last long," Bierce muttered to herself, "Is she a girl? Doesn't really matter, she was slow and now she's dead, but that tablet could come in handy…"

Unknown to her, Dfn'kd had typed up a single message before he had died, "If you get the ring, Find the Dollar General at the oasis in the desert and kill the employee working there."

He couldn't do it, but someone else might.
