I watch Kagome sit beside us, staring down at her lap, eyes wide and lips parted in her shock. The kitsune stands and collects Kagome's tanto's to put back on the wall, giving the miko a moment to process.

"Kagome?" I call to her quietly, dipping my head a bit to try and catch her eye.

"I... I didn't know." she stammers in reply.

"Hn." I reach for her hand, unsure what to say. When my fingers brush hers, both of her hands latch onto mine, clasping it tightly. She finally looks up at me, her cobalt orbs shining. "Come. Let us see you to a bath, and then we will have lunch before your afternoon engagements." I rise to my feet and effortlessly lift her to hers, tugging her to me to press a kiss to her temple.

"Yeah. Okay. Morina? Let's go." Together, the three of us amble along towards the bath. Or at least, we were until I am stopped by Akiro to inform me of yet another report of a border skirmish. I wave the females on, telling Kagome I will see her for lunch after, watching as she walks away, arm in arm with her guard. Sighing, I turn back to my general as we move to follow behind, heading instead to my study.

Just as we are about to turn the corner away from the direction my intended has travelled, a pulse of reiki brings us to a sudden halt, before I flash down after Kagome, Akiro a step behind me.

I can hear the clash of blades and shouting as I fly down the corridor before I am forced to stop by a wall of Kagome's. Morina is at my feet outside of the barrier, bleeding from a head wound.

"Kagome!" I call, unfurling my youki, preparing to break her shield to get to her. "Kagome, release the barrier!"

A sharp cry rings out and her barrier drops. My eyes bleed red as my beast rises, fear coursing through me at what may have happened to my miko. I dart forward, intent on protecting the woman- only to find that Kagome is fine. Panting, a small cut on her cheek, but fine. The attacker on the other hand, is half turned to dust on the ground before her, one of her tanto's sticking from his chest, the other in her hand.

She turns to me, eyes taking a second to focus before she all but collapses on the ground. "Morina? Is she okay?"

"I'll be fine, Kagome. Just a headache." the kitsune groggily answers as she sits up with Akiro's help.

I kneel down beside Kagome, running my hands lightly over her, checking for any injury I can not immediately see. "You are unhurt?"

She nods, staring at the would be assassin. "We were leaving our room to go to the springs, and he came out of no where. I know I'm not always very observant, but he had no aura." Her voice is flat, emotionless as she continues to stare at the dead youkai before her. "He just appeared behind Morina and knocked her out, then lunged for me. If I hadn't..." her eyes finally shift, moving to the tanto in her hand, clutching it in her hands like a lifeline. "It has a name. They both do."

"What are their names?" I ask gently, running my claws through the ends of her hair, not wanting to startle her.

"Aotokisaiga."*She nods to the blue and black handled blade sticking from the youkai, before looking down at her hand again. "Akitsukisaiga."*

"Interesting names they have chosen. They are appropriate however." I look her over once more before moving to scoop her up. Standing again, I turn to my general and Kagome's guard. "I am taking her to our room. Have it collected and examined. Be wary of the blade, it is of my fang." Both of their eyes blow wide but they nod regardless, rising to complete the task.

I turn and walk to our room, only a few steps away, intent on ensconcing us in it for the day so that she may recover and I may settle my instincts and nerves.

5/1/21 A/n: So, if my made up names are terrible, I'm sorry. I used a few different things to figure out a good way to make up sword/dagger names.

Aotokisaiga- blue time fang

Akitsukisaiga- white moon fang
