Okay everyone, so I wrote this in about ten minutes because I wanted to put something out here before I start my weekend. Overall life is good. I just started playing Far Cry 5. And even though I'm not that far into it. I did start listening to the soundtrack of the choir songs. And goddam I love it. So sorry this is another short chapter. It was originally longer because I had a Glynda Goodwitch joke at the end and mentioning Lady Dimitrescu. But I figured that would be too obvious.
Plus I'm focused on trying to get CNC schooling through my workplace since they offer to pay for a few guys to go and get trained as CNC operators, so focusing on trying to get a slot for that.
When you have the opportunity to learn a new skill that could help you, do everything you can to try and seize it. I would be making double what I make now if I get trained as a CNC machinist.
So wish me luck boys.
"Holy shit." All of the Remnant crew could only stare in awe at their destination.
"Its just as beautiful as I imagined it would be." Jem said as he saw the crystal clear blue water of the havasu falls.
He had thought about traveling to places like this all the time when he was in the army. He would watch videos of people traveling to places like the Havasu falls, or Olomana in Hawaii and he would honestly wish he would be able to go. And now he was finally at one of the places he had dreamt about for a long time. It was absolutely amazing and lived up to all of his expectations. He walked up to the pool of water gathering down at the bottom of the falls and took some into his hands and threw some on his head and face. The cool water was invigorating and made the whole ten mile trip worth it.
"Okay, I'll admit this is pretty nice." Harriet grumbled as ten mile hike seemed like a small price to pay now.
"Now I see why you wanted to see this place so much." Winter said as she looked around.
"Shouldn't there be more people around here though?" She found it odd they were the only ones here.
"Well, lets just say people still need to learn how to live because they became afraid of dying for so long." Jem said as he never had a fear of death.
Death was something that was guaranteed. It was inevitable. But one should never fear it. When you fear it so much that you forget how to live your best life, you may as well already be dead.
"Is it okay to swim in it?" Nala asked as she wasn't sure what the rules were.
"I mean, all the videos I saw had people swimming in it, so I don't see why that would be an issue?" Jem was confused by the question.
"Well...I saw this history channel episode about ghosts in hawaii, and didn't know if we would be walking into a cursed pool." Nala said as Jem deadpanned.
"Nala, that was Hawaii."
"I know! But haunted pools still scare me!"
"Okay thats fair, but no its perfectly safe." He said as Nala breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Cannibals haven't sacrificed anything here for years."
"WHAT?!"
"I'm kidding!" Jem laughed as the look on her face was priceless.
Nala gave his leg a punch as she didn't like the idea of ghosts hanging around anywhere. Sadly, when she was home alone one time and had nothing else to do. The history channel was having a special on haunted locations in the united states. And now she knew the backstory behind nearly every haunted location in the country. Minus a few here and there. It was amazing that she still slept like a baby with all things considered.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm going swimming!" Nora said as she immediately was changed into a swimsuit and jumped right in.
"OH! ITS COLD!" She said as Jem laughed.
"Leave it to Nora to be the first to jump in." He said as he didn't even know how she got changed that fast.
Soon enough the whole group was laughing and swimming around in the Havasu falls. Jem was currently having his picture taken as he was right at the base of the falls. Why? Because he thought it would make for an epic photo. To top it all off, the sun was coming down at the perfect angle, they were in paradise. The suns rays were shining down, no hint of noise being made by cars, fresh cool invigorating water. This was absolutely perfect.
Except for one thing.
"Hey guys, look what I brought along." Jem went over to his pack and started to unpack something.
"What? They asked as he pulled out a collapsible grate grill.
"...You were carrying that the whole time?" They asked as it looked big for his pack.
"Hey, its lightweight, and you can grill off of it. I always try to keep a collapsible stove or grill on me when I camp just so its easier to cook." He also opened up the rest of his pack.
"I also got some skillets in here just in case."
"How do you find room for everything else?" Elm asked
"If you ranger roll your clothes you save a lot of space."
"But what about the food?" There was no way he fit that much in their packs.
"Oh ask Nora." Everyone turned to look at Nora.
Only for her to somehow pull a cooler out of her hiking pack.
"...What...how...why?...She was carrying that the whole time?" That thing was huge.
"Yeah, I only put in enough so that we could all enjoy grilled meats for lunch. But the rest of the food we got or this trip is just going to be rehydrated camp food, but for lunch I wanted to do something nice." He said as Nora was pulling out packages and package of ground beef.
"Still seems a bit excessive." Clover said as Nora just happily went along with it.
"Don't worry about me! This is nothing compared to Magnhild!" She said as she was happy to carry the food.
Jem immediately got to work grilling up the meat. While everyone may have been confused how they managed to fit a cooler that big into Nora's pack, nobody was going to complain about all the food being grilled up.
"How DID you guys get that much food down here?" Harriet asked as she had to ruin the magic.
"Anime logic." Both Nora and Jem said at once.
"OH COME ON!" She said as that was just irritating.
Jem sadly had the habit of using that ever since Ruby had used it to describe how she put a minigun on his motorcycle. Hey, shit hadn't been normal ever since they showed up, reality didn't make sense anymore.
Winter was sitting beside Jem as he was cooking. She noticed something odd during that whole time. While both Elm and her were in bikinis, Jem had not looked at either of them once. It was odd. You think a man who found them physically attractive would have been dying to look at them. Instead, he was focused completely on the nature around him and the peaceful serenity it brought him. Boobs just weren't that important to him right now.
He wasn't gay, he just loved nature.
And come on, boobs are temporary, the peaceful serenity of nature is forever.
"Now this is perfect." Jem had a cold beer in one hand, a burger in the other sitting next to a small campfire overlooking the waterfall.
Why would anyone do drugs when they could do this?
"I thought you quit drinking?" Winter asked as Jem shrugged.
"Not completely, I can still have a beer every now and then, but no way in hell I'm going full blown barracks party again." He said as he took a sip.
Jem was getting to that point where he could still drink like he could when he was 16, but the hangovers were getting worse with every year that passed. So rather than keep drinking like a fish, he just cut it out. Didn't mean he couldn't have a beer after work, just meant that he wasn't going to have anymore alcohol related incidents. Jem had a dream once that he got drunk and starting jumping from semi to semi dressed as a pirate.
It might have been retarded, but the dream was fun while it lasted. Especially since he was humming the POTC theme the whole time.
