Chapter 5: A new start [part 8]: Lessons from Sir Carnegie's book

[6 ways to make people like you]

Now that Rukia is temporary removed from her duties as shinigami, she could not help but realize that being a noble lady of Kuchiki clan wasn't boring and easy as what she had imagined it to be.

In fact it's quite the opposite.

There are too much work to supervise, though the Kuchiki staffs managed the entire system in which the Kuchiki household functions, it were not as efficient as when Byakuya's grandmother managed it.

For 200 years, the Kuchiki household didn't have an active overall manager, Lady of the house, since Ginrie's wife passed away.

Because, Byakuya's mother died in childbirth, after just a year of becoming the Lady Kuchiki.

And Hisana had been very sickly to even perform duties as Lady Kuchiki, and eventually passed away just 5 years of becoming Byakuya's wife.

As for Rukia, she's just adopted sister to the Kuchiki clan head, and was not expected to act as Lady of the house, since she was very busy with her shinigami duties.

But now…

[Become genuinely interested in other people]

As Rukia read through the organizational chart of the entire Kuchiki clan, she felt like her head pounded with all the complexity of running a Kuchiki household, the most high regarded traditional family of the entire soul society.

She can't believe that, they employed 200 people just to run the entire manor!

How's that possible that she didn't even know about this?!

Her head aches.

But since she got plenty of time, she ventures into every nook and cranny of the manor, getting to know of every one.

Though, her efforts is quite late, it's still better late than never.

And off she goes, meeting the staffs and servants in the house, trying to understand their functions and help them somehow.

[Smile]

The staffs and servants on the other hand was quite pleased at their Lady's beautiful personality.

Her smiling and approving face, was a much welcomed change to her coldness.

Because for the past 5 decades, they almost never seen her smile, and she mostly kept to herself, confined in her room with her tutors, or practicing her shinigami arts in the garden in front of her room, and then leave for her shinigami duties without even looking back, as if she never wanted to live in the house in the first place.

Which was odd.

Since the Kuchiki clan is the most coveted family in the entire Soul Society, for their wealth and status.

And being a lady of the Kuchiki clan, entitles one to luxury everyone envies.

[Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language]

"Fuji-san" Rukia called out to the newly hired maid, who seemed to tiptoe all over the place, as if fearing for her life, as she walked over fragile eggs.

At the sound of her name being called, the maid from Rukongai 52nd district, turned around and bowed her head to the most beautiful and kind member of the Kuchiki clan she ever met, the Lady of the house.

Curious, and yet fearful.

Because, everyone knew about the lady's reputation as a cold shinigami, who has killed the head of the Shiba clan, and caused the recent chaos in Soul Society, due to her execution after she had committed the gravest crime in Seiretie.

[Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves]

Rukia was about to inquire about the pot she had seen Fuji took away, a few days ago, since her flower pots had been destroyed, she thought maybe the girl knew where the pots were stored.

But the expression on her face intrigued her, more than the location of the pots in the house.

And so, she decided to chat with her instead, as they walked along the hallways, trying to find the missing pots.

[Talk in terms of the other person's interests]

"So your family makes pots in your district, for decorative purposes" Rukia concluded as their talk progressed while their search hadn't. Enjoying her company.

At this, Rukia realized how much she had missed by not approaching people and talking to them, due to fear and inadequacy.

For the staffs and servants in the manor has some amazing stories to tell that anyone could spend days just listening to their wonderful life stories.

It was amazing, and mind opening.

[Make the other person feel important. And do it sincerely]

And finally, they found the pots and successfully replaced the broken flower pots the gardener had accidentally destroyed, after the branch of the Sakura tree fell on it, as he trimmed the branch.

"Thank you, Akina-San. I am very grateful for the personal stories you shared. I learned a lot. I hope one day, I can visit your family shop, and learned how to make pots myself" Rukia commented, hopeful.

"Arigatou, Rukia" Akina thankfully replied to her Lady. "I will tell my father about your wish, and prepare for you. He would be very happy to know that you are interested in pottery!" she added enthusiastically, with a broad smile in her face, happiness showing in her eyes as she looked at her unlikely friend, Rukia Kuchiki.

To be continued….

To Marialendra, thank you.
