Chapter 57:
It was almost six. Dinner was about to start. Everyone was at the tables they usually occupied. Everyone but Moon Shadow. Shay glanced around and looked eyes with Kaz. The look in the younger boys eyes spoke loud and clear. He knew something.
"If I can have everyone's attention now," Aster spoke from the doors of the hall. "The Professor has something he would like to say to all of you."
"It has come to my attention some of the cadets have been harassing our brave and loyal Juvenile Officers. This will not be tolerated. If you continue we will take action and severe punishment will await you whoever you are. We will find you eventually so I suggest you stop now or you will have some regrets later."
The Professor scanned the room slowly from beside Aster as if he was looking for something or someone. His eyes landed on the table Shay and his friends occupied. More specifically on Shay himself. Out of the corner of his eye Shay saw Kaz stiffen. He would ask him about that later.
Moon Shadow entered the room and all eyes turned to him. Moon Shadow stood to attention and waited to be addressed.
"Cadet Moon Shadow. May I ask why you're late to dinner?" Leo Akaba calmly asked.
"I lost track of time. I was on my way here when I realized what time it was but needed to use the bathroom on the way."
"You missed an important message concerning the Juvenile Officers being harassed. So here it is again. We are looking for whoever is behind the harassment. They will be punished accordingly once found."
"Understood. I will keep a lookout," Moon Shadow lied calmly before joining his friends. "I have news for you," he mouthed to Shay as he sat down in front of him.
At six thirty everyone was gathered in Moon Shadow's room. Moon Shadow sat on the floor cross legged with his eyes closed. The girls Rain and Bree sat on Moon Shadows bed. Kevin, Dennis, Gong and Yuya sat on the other bed. Shawn sat on the floor next to Moon Shadow's bed with Devon. Kaz and Kale were in front of Moon Shadow. Shay leaned against the door. Bret leaned against the wall next to the door and Colin and Shadi took the two chairs.
"It seems like some of us have something to say," Shay started.
"I'll go first," Kaz volunteered. "At dinner we all heard the Professor's message. Their looking for us."
"Technically their looking for whoever's harassing the Juvenile Officers," Bret corrected.
"No. well yes but they're suspecting us," Kaz informed. "Earlier today while I was heading to breakfast I saw Aster and instructor Roget go into the Professor's office. I lingered outside the door and heard everything they were saying. Aster mentioned talking to some of the other Juvenile Officers. Kit told him about Yuya being sick a few days ago but Iggy said he saw Yuya a few minutes after Kit had and he looked just fine. They both also reported to Aster a piece of paper Yuya had with him."
"The one Shay now has," Yuya added softly.
"I continued listening for a while and heard them talk about knowing something was up and Shay is a prime suspect," Kaz finished explaining.
"That's why the Professor's gaze landed on me and lingered," Shay whispered.
"Then it is possible the Professor did not believe my made up story of why I was late for dinner," Moon Shadow concluded.
"We might be in some trouble then," Dennis chimed in.
"Moon Shadow you also have something to say," Shay claimed.
"Yes. You might want to sit down Shay."
"I'm fine just tell me what you found out."
"It is not what I found out. It is who I found. I have found Kite," Moon Shadow confessed.
Shay's eyes widened and his breath caught in his throat. Moon Shadow had found Kite. His roommate and friend. They could go rescue him now. Shay locked eyes with Moon Shadow but there was no indication he was lying though he was well trained to do so.
"It has taken me sometime to locate Kite. At first I thought he had been taken off academy grounds as we had not seen him in over two weeks now."
"How did you find him," Shay exclaimed.
"I noticed a door at the very back of the academy about a week after Kite was taken from us. It was locked so I assumed it was the basement and that the academy stored things down there," Moon Shadow calmly stated.
"So it's not a basement?" Devon asked.
"No it is a basement. But the academy does not store things there," the experienced boy told his friends, new and old.
Everyone waited as Moon Shadow paused his eyes continued watching Shay with worry. Said young man was now sitting on the floor staring at it with a look of pain, worry, regret and hope. Shay glanced up.
"Keep going. Tell me," he whispered holding back his emotions as best as he could.
"Every day I checked that door to see if it was unlocked but it never was. A couple days ago I saw Barrett and Iggy go down there. I had been hearing rumors of them coming back up from there and there would be blood on them or they would take things down there with them and bring them back up later to take elsewhere. I decided to find out what was going on so I followed them tonight. Right before dinner."
"So what did you see?" Yuya asked.
"Is Kite down there?" Dennis inquired.
"Is he okay," Gong wanted to know.
"What about Celina? Is she okay? We haven't seen her in a very long time," Yuya asked a second question.
"I followed them to the back of the basement to a door they had to unlock. I kept my distance but I could hear the screams of agony come from that room. I took a chance and peaked inside to see our friend restrained in the middle of that room. He is in horrible condition. I cannot locate Celina," Moon Shadow confided.
"Thanks Moon Shadow. You found Kite. Now we just have to think of a way to get him out of there," Shay weakly voiced.
There is more to say," Moon Shadow divulged. "I have spoken again with Faker. Kite's father. My Older Brother Sun Shadow has been dispatched to help with our plans of escape. He will be working in the shadows. I have been told Sora's body has been recovered and that pictures have been found on him. They were damaged by the ocean water but it is believed they are of injuries received from the academy. Faker is trying to get the academy investigated but we need to come up with a plan if his does not work."
"We have one," Shawn suddenly spoke.
Everyone turned to look at him. He shared a look with his younger sister and she smirked. He nodded to her to explain what she had been doing.
"Last meeting we agreed to find out what we could about the Juvenile Officers. I might have used my charm and good looks to learn a little bit about one of them. More importantly I found out his deepest fear as well as two others while pretending to be afraid of a spider I had run into."
Rain explained about her run in with Dipper and how she acted like she was interested in him and in trying to join the Juvenile Officers. Then she told everyone about the run in with the little house spider and how she pretended to be scared of it.
"Dipper revealed two of the Juvenile Officers are scared of spiders while making fun of how girls are always scared of them. I asked who it was I would get along so well with and he said the Tyler sisters."
"Rain that was brilliant," Yuya exclaimed proudly.
"I know," She replied with a smirk.
"So what's Dipper's fear?" asked Shay with a small smirk.
"Fire apparently."
"We need to find out what the others are afraid of if we're going to control them enough to rally the rest of the cadets," Shay figured.
"Leave that…"
Shawn was cut off suddenly by Kaz.
"Where is the note? The one Devon gave you?"
"Right here," Shay replied pulling it out of his pocket.
"Did you even look at it?" Kaz asked him.
"No I was waiting for the meeting and then I totally forgot about it until now."
Shay unfolded the paper and to his shock saw the names of the Juvenile Officers and what they feared. The paper was passed around so everyone could see it. All eyes landed on Kaz.
"The Juvenile Officers aren't just mean to us. Their mean to each other too. The night before the paper was handed out I snuck out of my room and observed the Juvenile Officers. This night they played a little game called fear factor. Tormenting each other. When they weren't out patrolling they were playing the game. I managed to get the information we needed and get back to my room before anyone knew I was even out of my room," Kaz explained.
"Good work."
"So wait everything I did was for nothing because we already had the information we needed. Thanks a lot," Rain said pretending to be angry.
"Sorry hun better luck next time. Though you're still a value to the team," Kaz teased back.
The room erupted into laughter. Shay even managed a small chuckle. Everything felt so normal, like the people in this very room weren't just minutes ago planning an academy takeover.
Kite. Just hold on. We're gonna get you back. Shay thought in his head.
Okay so Moon Shadow knows where Kite is and now so does Shay. Will he still be alive when they get him back? what is in store for the JO's? Keep reading to find out.
