I carry Kagome into our private bathing chambers, stepping over to a bench to seat her on before I slowly strip down to just my hakamas, then begin to disrobe her. Plucking the tanto from her hand, I set it aside, watching her carefully in her catatonic state. Once her clothing has been removed, I lift her again and carry her into the water, seating myself on a low ledge, and her in my lap. I begin to carefully cup water over her skin, washing away sweat, blood and ash. When her skin is clean, I shift her again to begin working a gentle lather through her hair, still watching her closely for any signs of... anything.
Her lack of response begins to worry me greatly, my brows furrowing as I rinse her hair. Once done, I gather her close and nuzzle her jaw.
"Kagome, koi," I start, still unsure what to say to her, only knowing that this state she is in can not continue. The scent of blood reaches my nose and I see the small cut on her cheek has begun bleeding again. Cupping her other cheek, I lean forward and drag my tongue across the cut, before watching it seal shut and heal to a faint pink line from my saliva.
Casting another worried look over her, I stand and carry her back to the bench, where I wrap her in a towel, before stripping from my hakama and wrapping another around my waist.
"Kagome, I am going to take you to bed, and we will stay there today." I tell her, unsure if she is able to hear me. Perhaps I should bring the kit again. It helped the last time. Sighing, I move us to the bedroom, tucking her beneath my mokomoko and the fur covers before fetching a clean pair of hakamas. Glancing over her again, I go to the door of the bed chamber and find Akiro waiting in the hall.
"Good. Report."
"Morina is in the infirmary, the wound looked worse than it was. Kioshi and Lady Kimiko are examining the body now. They will report their findings later tonight after a thorough look. I have brought back Kagome's tanto." The black inu holds out the blade, wrapped in silk, just in case.
"Thank you. We are not to be disturbed unless it is an emergency. We will rejoin the pack tomorrow." I nod to Akiro, dismissing him and step back into the room. Sighing heavily, I go to retrieve the other tanto from the bathing room, as well as a yukuta from her tansu, and set the items on a low table near the bed.
Kagome has not moved, though tears have begun to slip down her face as she stares at the wall.
"Little bird, please speak to me." I murmur, kneeling next to her, brushing her tears away with my knuckles. Slowly, her eyes slide to mine, and I watch as she crumples, her hands flying up to cover her face as sobs begin to wrack her body. I climb into the bed behind her and gather her to me, curling protectively around her as she burrows against me.
"It is okay, koi. You are safe." I reassure, rocking her gently as I begin to rumble. After several long minutes, she finally begins to calm, her wrenching sobs now mere sniffles.
"I don't," she starts, her voice thick, small gasping breathes interrupting her, "I don't understand. Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why are they after me? Why can't they just leave me alone?"
"I do not know, little bird. But we will find out." I curl a finger under her chin to raise her head, before leaning down to kiss her gently. "We will keep you safe."
"I know. I just don't like the feeling of having to look over my shoulder, worrying that someone might attack me again. If I hadn't grabbed the tanto's..." Kagome takes a shuddering breath before pressing her face to my neck, her nails dragging against my chest as she curls her hands into fists.
"But you did. And you will have them on you from now on." I tell her, combing through her hair.
"Is Morina okay? I remember asking before but not the answer." Her voice is small, frail in her exhaustion.
"She is. She had a minor head wound and was taken to the infirmary immediately. She will be healed by dinner."
"Good. That's good. And no one else got hurt?"
"No. Only the cut upon your face, which I have healed. You put up a barrier that prevented the assailant from escaping, as well as any possible energy attacks."
"He managed to hit me?"
"It was a very small cut. It would have healed on its own in a matter of days, regardless. Even at a human healing rate. I merely helped it along." I watch her as she lifts a hand to run over her cheeks, before I gently take her hand and trace one of her fingers over the barely visible line. "It will not scar. The faint mark left will fade quickly."
"Thank you." She sits up a bit to look at me, before leaning down and kissing me. "For everything."
"It is my pleasure. Come. Sleep. No one will disturb us for the day." I tug her down to lay across me, my arms wrapping around her comfortably.
"M'kay." she mumbles as she nuzzles my chest. "Love you."
"I love you as well, Kagome. Now, sleep."
