"Can I ask a question?" I asked, interrupting her before she began another lecture. "how are the princesses still around then? If they all went extinct I mean." she stayed silent for a few moments before I heard a sigh.
"because of a spell created by the royal family of the time for their imminent doom. They knew that regardless of what happened without alicorns to help keep the balance of magic. Without a single alicorn alive magic would run rampant, and it did, although not on the scale that it could have been. You see alicorns are also the caretakers of magic. Their own bodies draw in the rampant magic and purify it and release it with day to day activities. Even more so if they use magic. Think of it like a blocked pipe. Remove all the blockage and it would all be released at once. but leave behind a small bit of it…"
"it would still keep it blocked off… but wouldn't a good bit get through?" I then asked.
"correct, but while they may be two of the last alicorns alive they were a part of the royal family. Known to be the strongest of their kind and only getting stronger every generation and new magic was added to the mix unlike the nobles of that time. Magic needed new blood every generation otherwise it began to get weaker and weaker. With the Created being made entirely by magic magical power skyrocketed among them all. Three generations before the princesses had at least one Created parent."
"wow…" I was almost speechless.
"indeed. They were put into a stasis that would last for an unknown amount of time. They were simply foals at the time so they would barely remember the empire that existed. They were raised by a middle class family if I remember correctly. Celestia herself had her memories altered to remember how things occurred differently. For the safety of the entire Alicorn race despite their disappearance. Their future parents had a letter gifted to them to explain things."
"but arn't Alicorns immortal?" I then asked. "how were they going extinct?" silence was all that greeted my question. Before she spoke after a couple minutes.
"their magic…" she then spoke in a low voice. "their own magic was their own demise."
"but…"
"allow me… to explain. Remember what I said about earlier about them pulling in magic to purify?"
"yes…" not liking where this is going.
"their bodies slowly began to take in more and more magic at a time. To the point where it became to much for them. The Created had the same ability but due to only being made with magic… made their bodies much more vulnerable to the intake and release of magic. While they also had long life spans they were still behind the natural alicorns own life spans." Fear filled me… the princesses have been alive since the creation of Equestria… they were behind the unification! That was thousands of years ago.
"the… princesses…" the tears welled up in my eyes at this revelation.
"will live for a few thousand years more due to their lineage." I was confused by this. "while they may be nearing the average alicorns life span due to the magic intake… they came from the royal family. Their magic prowess is what extends their life… it also-" she went silent as I was wiping the tears in my eyes from the relief of knowing.
"is, something wrong?" I asked.
"it appears you are going to have company soon. I detect several presences approaching the vicinity of the castle above us." But who could be coming here.
"are… you sure their coming here?" I asked.
"certainly. There are two groups, it appears one has appeared at the outer edges and is slowly making their way towards the castle. The other group has almost arrived and appears they will be meeting up with the first group at the castle." But who could have come here? Why would they come here? I think the only pony that would know where I could have gone would… of… been…
…
The princess…
I… I'm… I can't see her yet… I just can't!
"is there anyway we can keep them out!" I asked quickly.
"certainly. I know the circumstances of why you were running from the royal guards in the castle. I believed you needed answers which is why I brought you here. I can conceal the entrance door for a time. But you will need to leave eventually."
"anything!" I cried out tears flowing out once more. "I cant see her again! Not yet!" she immediately went bright as the entire room filled up with bright light before I was forced to close my eyes from the bright light. When I was able to see again I could see that everything in the room had a bright shine to it. It was an amazing sight to be honest.
That was then I realized I was breathing heavily, most likely from what was happening. "I… I'm… sorry if I was… rude…" I spoke as I tried to get my breathing under control.
"perhaps it might be better if you rest for now… your judgement will be clouded if we continue."
"but… wait…" and with that… I simply saw darkness…
"I will be here when you awake…"
And with that… I heard silence.
