Author's Note
A Talking Cat - Well... there will be more talking... right now Anne's just swept away with her hair being romantic. I honestly think if Gilbert had gotten romantic and poetic about her hair she would have swooned and maybe not agreed to an engagement but a courtship their second year. That discussion is coming... soon as they've some privacy about the fight they had etc.
Denie1943 - Yes.. they've turned aside and are fast tracking to the happily ever after now. Sometimes it's a quick turn around when we realize what we're missing.
Oz Diva - Yes... I thought Davy was the perfect foil of practicality to the romance of the scene.

Why I rode all the way over to where I thought the sewing circle was meeting over at the Pyes, only to learn I'd heard wrong and Anthony told me it was meeting over at Frank Bell's. Well, the horse was tired and it wasn't a bad walk so when he offered to walk over with me, gosh, I jumped down and we walked the horse the half mile over to Frank's.
"Hello." He grumbled at us sitting on the porch whittling. "I ain't touched any of them again."
"Well Dora wouldn't let you. Taught her how to kick a man if any tries to steel a kiss again." I glared.
"Well, who'd have thought Miss Shirley had such loose morals." He spat. "Comes from being an orphan."
"Who'd have thought," I spat back. "That Avonlea could have such sinners with gossips everywhere you turn. Anyways they're setting everything right. That's what we ought to do when we make mistakes and you too. You'll be over to apologize to Dora won't you later? Though we'll be busy preparing for the wedding."
I didnt' wait for a response. Instead I pushed past with Anthony cheering on a grass leaf following me into the parlor where all the ladies were gathered. They froze watching me, no doubt talking about Anne and Gilbert. I didn't see Marilla. Though Mrs. Lynde was there looking quite out of sorts.
"Anne off to go west, no doubt the best." Mrs. Superintendent Bell, Frank's mother spoke. "Such loose morals. To think they never were married."
"Well, they're marrying Monday morning at Sunrise, and it'll be a proper wedding. Truth is, it's all you biddies that have caused the problems. If you hadn't gossiped about them non stop they wouldn't have tried to save face and would have just admitted their failures and planned their wedding properly this summer. Anne wanted to go west and take the blame, took Gilbert riding on his horse almost onto the train to stop her. What's more important? Be perfect like Dora and never make mistakes or make tons like Anne and I and learn from them? Even Dora learns from her mistakes and now knows how to handle a man whose trying to be fresh. And Anne knows to admit her wrongs, but have you learned? Nah. You're still gossiping."
They all stared at me.
"Well I'll say." Josie Pye glared at me.
"Guess not. Well those who are sorry can come over to help prepare the wedding. They've gone and decided to marry at Sunrise on Monday morning because Gilbert's always thought Anne's hair looks like the sunset at the island shore. Don't know if it does but I want to see if the minister stops when the rooster crows or just talks through him? Now, we've got a lot to do. Don't weddings take forever and don't you all got to say you're sorry to Anne and Gilbert? That's what Marilla always makes me do when I'm naughty and you're all almost as bad as I am. So I expect you all there, and making it ever as grand as Diana and Fred's last summer."
I didn't stay to hear their responses instead I turned on my heals to see a beet red Anthony biting his lips and holding in his sides. Soon as the front door slammed behind us he burst into the loudest laughter I'd ever heard. "Count me in. What will we need?"
"Don't know? Food? Don't think us fellas better cook. Might give them all food poisoning."
"We might want a bon fire for the wedding. Oh I know, let's go find Sam and Milty and then get Fred Wright. We're going to give Gilbert Blythe the bachelor's night he'll never forget!"
Now that was a swell idea. And as Mrs. Lynde rushed home to start preparing for a wedding, with a few others following. We dropped the horse off at Green Gables and continued onto together the gentlemen to plan the bachelor's night.
"We've best kidnap him." Anthony said as we all stood around in Fred Wright's barn. "Leave him in the dark. Take him to a bonfire in the woods."
"Go fishing at midnight!" Milty added.
Sam just grinned. "Scare him that he won't get back in time for the wedding, though he will of course."
Fred just shook his head. "Far better then my bachelor night. Older cousins trying to scare me about the wedding night."
"Well that is the wedding night ain't it?" I asked. "I mean the wedding starts so early."
Fred bit his lip. "We'll plan something for them also... Help them have some privacy after none before. I'd never want to set foot in Avonlea either if I'd been through what they've been through. Show them we stand behind them. Maybe Diana will have some ideas..."
So with plans set I went home to face a whirlwind of wedding preparations. For we had days to prepare a wedding that normally took weeks to plan. Diana had already come over and lists were being made, plans set and Dora and Minnie May were already washing vases from both their homes with a very sheepish looking Mrs. Barry sitting in a corner offering her best platters. Even Mrs. Blythe was there, smiling at us all, for all was glad in the world. Though we all knew that the real challenge wasn't the wedding. It was the committee afterwards.
