Yesterday (Day 1) - 7:30 PM
InuKimi was quite fond of the little human who sat beside her. She was so full of energy and life, despite her past and her previous fate.
At first, she had merely entertained the idea of Sesshoumaru carring for this child, because she found it interesting. However, after spending some time with her and with him, she had grown to not only love the child as her very own granddaughter, but she began to hope that Rin would help thaw out Sesshoumaru's frozen heart, allowing himself to love and be loved; Which would eventually fill this castle with pups, something that had not happened since even before Sesshoumaru himself was a pup.
She continued to eat as she listened to Rin's retelling of their adventures, frowning at the thought of Sesshoumaru allowing them to travel by themselves such a large distance, regardless of the reason.
She knew he did not want a mate. She was aware of his behavior on recent blood moons. That he would go so far as to send away his ward and stay in the forest to not come across any bitch was simply preposterous. She had half a mind to grab him by the ear and drag him back.
Either he succumbed to his beast and rutted, or he would overcome his beast once and for all without need to stave off his desires in such an outrageous way.
Honestly, that boy was more trouble than he was worth.
She smiled a little at that thought. He always did hate to lose, even as a child he would do all he could in order to not be perceived as a failure. He would work harder than anyone else into late hours of the night, waking up earlier than all his peers, and braving any challenge set before him.
His need for success far outweighed any fear or obstacle. Not that Sesshoumaru would ever admit to having any fears or deeming anything an obstacle.
Perhaps she had allowed his indulgences a little too often, if only she could actually say 'no' to him and mean it. She sighed internally.
"Rin really likes Kagome too! She teaches me all about plants and healing and she even taught me about the stars and how to read them in case Rin gets lost!"
InuKimi came back to the conversation at the mention of some human instructor, afterall she had not approved outside lessons for her precious granddaughter, and she would not allow some subpar human to undo all the work that she was doing with her education now.
"How nice." She replied. "Does this ...Kagome...was it?" Rin nodded her head enthusiastically. "Does she get lost often? Is that what prompted her asking the stars for guidance?" She finished with a smirk.
The malicious tone was completely lost to the innocent child who kept eating. "Hmm, I am not sure if Lady Kagome gets lost often or not...but she is always being kidnapped!" Rin finished with a grin.
InuKimi almost choked on the piece of fish she was currently swallowing at the brazen description of Rin's 'would be' teacher. She was not sure whether to laugh or be concerned for this human that had apparently been in enough trouble over the years that they had to learn to read the stars of all things.
She covered her surprise with a quick cough and a napkin, it was not often someone caught her off guard.
"It would seem that your tutor would benefit more from learning about how to take care of herself than teaching about it."
"Lady Kagome prefers not to fight. She says that we should always look for a peaceful solution." Rin supplied.
"Indeed." InuKimi agreed. "However, what if a peaceful solution is not an option?" She countered.
"Peace is always an option." Rin said with a straight face.
InuKimi was a little in awe at the stern set of the child's voice.
"Hmm…" She said, deciding not to pursue the subject further, Rin was rarely a stubborn child, but when she set her heels in, she was as bad as a dog with a bone. Very much a little Lady Inu in the making.
Smiling at the little girl she decided to cave...for now, after all it was getting late and they had classes in the morning.
"Rin, finish your supper, your lessons begin at sunrise." The child ate in silence for the rest of the meal, wanting to finish quickly so she could go to bed.
After a quick dip in the private baths, Lady InuKimi tucked Rin into her futon. Since she normally slept with Sesshoumaru, despite having her own rooms, she thought it better to have Rin spend the night with her. The sound of the wind rustling through the trees was a gentle lullaby for the sweet child that lay in her futon, and within minutes she was deep asleep.
InuKimi's golden eyes ever watchful.
