The only one to ask for entry is Shippo at dinner time, needing to see that his mother is in fact okay. I permit him to stay with us- eating, making sure Kagome eats, and then sleeping curled up between us, his head tucked under her chin as she hums and gently combs her fingers through his hair and tail.
I cannot stop the flashes of images that my mind conjures up, of her doing such with our own pups. I ponder if she would birth hanyous, or if her immense power would produce full blooded youkai. Would they inherit her reiki? Would the jewels power affect them? If so, how?
My daydreaming begins to spiral into thoughts that cause worry and I forcibly shut down the line of thinking, instead opting to merely watch my intended and her kit as they sleep, and the unconscious movements they make to keep each other near.
I smile softly, drinking in the peaceful sight, when Kagome's hand moves, reaching for me. I offer my hand to her questing fingers, and she pulls it to tuck next to her face, fingers lacing with mine as her nose gently brushes the back of my hand.
Even asleep, she seeks comfort from me. No other besides Rin has ever done so and it warms my heart. My created family. My actual family, if one looks to InuYasha and Kimiko. My eyes dance across my miko's angelic face reverently as the thought crosses my mind.
This singular woman has given me much. She has bridged together myself and my two surviving blood relatives, when once, not so long ago, I was alone. I can only hope to repay her kindness one day.
We awaken the next morning to Shippo bouncing on the bed as he tries to coax Kagome from her sleep before she is ready. A truly daunting task.
"Mama! It's time to go eat. Come on!" Shippo whines, his tail simultaneously drooping and flicking side to side.
"Come, kit. I will rouse her and we will join the pack shortly." I tell him, rising to my feet. I open the door to the garden as I move passed it then escort the excitable kitsune towards the door leading to the hallway.
Sighing loudly, Shippo follows, bounding next door towards the food, the guards all smiling lightly. When I return to the bedroom, Kagome is sprawled out on her stomach, eyes fixed to the garden through open shoji door, her chin resting on her crossed arms as her fingers gently scratch behind one of Aimi's ears.
"Good morning, kotori." I murmur as I crawl over her form on the bed, gently resting my upper torso on hers, my arms reaching to wrap around her shoulders, as my chin rests on one. I nuzzle her gently as she giggles.
"Morning, Sess." she replies quietly, smiling as her eyes close in contentment.
"How are you this morning?"
"I'm... I'll be okay. Still a bit shaken, but not as bad as last time." She sighs, or tries to under my weight. "It helps not being helpless anymore. Not that I'm arrogant enough to think I don't still need Morina, but... if I hadn't had any of the training, or the tanto's on hand, I think it would've ended a lot worse. This one wasn't surprised by my reiki. Dodged it several times before I got lucky with the blade." Kagome sighs again and turns her head to lay flat against her arms, eyes sliding to look at me as best as she can from the position we are both laying.
"You know, you're kinda heavy." she teases, before her hands clutch at mine when I make to move off of her. "I didn't say move."
"Apologies." I reply, resettling my weight over her, and pressing a light kiss to the bottom of her jaw. "We should join the pack. They are worried." I feel her tense beneath me and press myself down on her just a bit, beginning a light rumble in my chest. "As well, we must announce that you have agreed to be my mate." I murmur, smirking when her eyes light up and she pushes against me futilely.
"Kami, you really are heavy." she mumbles as she gives up with attempting to dislodge me.
"Indeed. I am a 60 foot dog. My humanoid form is much denser than a human's to compensate." I shift up, putting my weight in my arms, allowing her to roll over and let me pull her up into a sitting position.
"Your mother is going to go apeshit with planning." Kagome remarks after a moment, causing my brow to crease slightly at the foreign phrase, though I am able to piece together what she means.
"She will indeed become insufferable. However, we must not put it off. For the sooner she is told, the sooner it may come to pass." Kagome gifts me with a radiant smile as she leans forward to wrap her around around my neck and press her lips to mine in a sweet, gentle kiss.
"I was thinking Midwinter. Since all the other Cardinal Lords will be coming anyways, and they're required to be there for the ceremony. It'll save them travelling time, us costs, and from having to host them more than necessary." Kagome tells me, eyes watching mine intently.
"You are not only beautiful, but intelligent, and clever beyond means. The perfect mate, little bird." I reply, kissing her soundly.
