Chapter 60 – Baby Ben

Next day in Varykino, Naboo:

Luke woke up. The sun was rising in Varykino and he stretched on the bed, looking at his left he smiled, seeing Ines sleeping on her right side, facing him. She was exhausted from giving birth 13 hours ago and spend the night breastfeeding their baby boy. Right now she was resting and she deserved it. He couldn't believe he was a father. That his baby boy was already here and he was so perfect. He looked at Ines. He was so proud of her. If he loved her so much before, now he loved her even more after seeing her going through hours of labor and then finding strength to push their baby out of her. They finally have their baby.

Standing up slowly, he walked around the bed and stopped near the crib on Ines side and smiled when he saw his little boy, sleeping sucking on his pacifier, his little hands holding in two little fists. He was born with 3.2 kg and with 47cm. Picking him slowly, he rest his baby on his chest, holding his little head. He born with little brown hair. He hope he had his mother beautiful brown hair. Holding closer to him, feeling him moving, he walked back in bed and getting under the covers, he laying him on his right arm, while he grabbed his little hand, smiling when Ben opened it. He admired his son, his little hands and fingers. He was half of him and half of Ines combined. Leaning down he kissed his little forehead. He sensed the force in his son and it was in fact strong in him. That was his Ben, a life that he made with Ines and so far it would depend on him and his mother, and that he would protect with his life forever. He loved his baby boy so much a long side with his mother. They were his world. He felt blessed for having them.

Ines moved and opening her eyes, she smiled when she watched her two men she loved the most in the galaxy.

"Good morning my love" he said in a low voice, trying to not wake up the baby

"Good morning. What a beautiful image" she said and she sat up on the bed, wince when she did that, which made Luke wrapping his left arm around her right away.

"My love, are you okay?"

"A little sore down there. After all, that beautiful baby came out of it." she giggled and Luke smiled kissing the top of her head

"I hope it didn't damage to much"

Ines looked at him smiling.

"Don't worry. It would be fine for you when the time comes" she giggled

"I hope so" he smirked rubbing his nose on hers.

Ines looked at their baby, holding his little right hand the baby grabbed her finger right away, she rested her head on Luke's shoulder.

"You were really inspired when we made him" she smiled looking at him

"Of course I was inspired. I was making him with you, loving you for the first time. How couldn't I being inspired" he said and looked at his son "The first Skywalker born in the New Republic era"

Ines looked at her little Ben, while playing with his little fingers, with her head still resting on Luke's shoulder, when she remembered something.

"Luke, you felt Leia's pain yesterday, just like I felt. Do you think something happened to her and the baby?"

"I don't know. I hope they are both fine. I'm actually thinking of calling to Coruscant, if I had a way to do it. Are you hungry?"

"Actually I'm starving" Ines said. After all the exhausting labor of yesterday, she was actually very hungry.

"Then let me get dress and I will ask for the servants to prepare a nice breakfast for both of us. I will eat here with you" Luke replied "Here, take our little treasure" and he passed the baby, who make some noise, dropping his pacifier.

"Ups" Ines said, adjust her son on her left arm, and grabbing the pacifier she smile when the baby pout, making her heart melt at the scene. "Oh my sweet little baby" kissing his forehead, smelling her baby scent that was so good. Her baby. She was a mother. She had a baby with the man she loves. She remembered that many times she thought, those years after Yavin, how would it feel like to have a child with Luke. That happened and she never thought she would be so happy.

Luke smiled while he was putting his dark blue pants and a black shirt. Sitting on the bed he put his boots on. Turning around, he got on the bed and kissed Ben's head, and then Ines lips.

"When I had that vision in Dagobah, I couldn't wait for that to happen. In Bespin, when I gave you my pistol and told you to take R2 and leave the planet, that I would meet you later, that vision came into my head. And it happened yesterday and it was beautiful." he kissed her again "I'll be right back"

And putting his belt, he left the bedroom.

He saw two servants who greet him.

"Morning Sir" they said

"Good morning. May I ask you to make a nice breakfast for me and my wife. Since she needs to stay in bed, for at least a week to recovered, I would like to take my meals with her"

"Sure. Congratulations for the baby" the old one said

"Thank you. There is any place where I can make a call for Coruscant?"

"Yes, sir. In that room, there is monitor where you can make calls and have meetings."

"Okay, thank you"

"You're welcome. We will prepare the breakfast right away" and with a bow they left, while Luke head himself to the room.

When he entered there was a big monitor with a panel in front of him. Pressing the buttons he mark Coruscant and Han and Leia's apartment number and waited for the answer.

R2 appeared beeping.

"I don't know what you are saying but if you asking for Ines, she is fine and the baby is fine too" he smiled when R2 beeped again.

The image on the monitor changed and Han's face appeared on it

"Luke!"

Luke smiled at his friend

"Hey Han!"

"I'm glad you call, I was about to try to call to you. I just didn't know how. How is Naboo?"

"It is beautiful. You need to come here with Leia. We are in a Lake Retreat that our mother used. It was here our parents got married."

"Nice" Han replied

"Han I'm sure you know why I'm calling at this hour. Ines and I felt something happened to Leia. How is she?" Luke asked him

Han sighed. The first moment he saw it was a call from Naboo, he knew it was Luke and why he was calling.

"Well Leia is in bed, resting. At least for a week"

"And the baby?" he asked but he knew the answer the first moment he saw Han's face, and closing his eyes he sighed "I'm really sorry Han."

"Yeah me too. But I warned her. The past week she didn't slow down one bit and didn't eat properly."

"Just give her a hug and a kiss from me and Ines"

"I will."

"How is she?"

"Devastated, even if she doesn't want to show it. You know Leia" Han said making Luke nod

"And how are you, my friend?"

Han just stood there for a minute in silence

"I was getting used the idea of being a father, so I have to say I'm sad, Luke."

"I'm sure you and Leia will have more kids. I know they will not replace this one, but don't lose hope. You two will be great parents, I know it. I wish I was there, but I also called to warn you that we will stay a little longer than we expected."

Han looked at Luke with a concerned look on his face.

"Why? Is everything okay with you two? Is Ines alright?"

Luke smiled at him

"Yes, she is fine. She just needed to be in bed for the week as well. Our son born yesterday at the end of the day"

Han gasped at that news.

"Luke, congratulations"

"Thanks Han. I know it is not the news you would like to hear after what happened"

"Hey. Nothing could predicted it. I'm really happy for you and Ines. How is she?"

"Tired and sore, but she is recovering well. She was amazing. If I loved her so much before, now I love her more than ever"

"And the kid. To whom does he look like?"

"He is a perfect little boy. And he is beautiful like his mother" Luke smiled.

"Well give a kiss to Ines from me and Chewie too and I'm really happy for you kid. You and Ines deserve it"

"Thanks Han. See you in 2 or 3 weeks"

"Bye Luke"

And the monitor went black. Luke sighed. He wish he could be with his sister right now, especially it would not be easy for her knowing that while she was losing her baby, his wife was giving birth his at the same time. He just hope Leia would not have the wrong reaction to the news.

Standing up he head to his bedroom, where he smiled as he watched his baby sucking on his mother left breast. He really couldn't imagine what Han and Leia were feeling right now. He almost lost his son but he was here.

Walking towards the bed, he removed the belt and the boots and got under the covers, wrapping his left arm around Ines shoulders.

"I see someone is already having his breakfast" he smiled

"He's devouring, I can tell you that" she laughed feeling her son sucking her breast, really hungry.

Luke leaned to Ben and said smiling

"Enjoy them as you can, because once these two stop being giving your food, they will return to their owner: your father"

"Excuse me? Owner? Since when?"

"She I had you in that Rebel Cruiser" he winked at her.

Ines shook her head

"Well Yolla was here, and she said I have a lot of milk which is very good. And I'm healing well. Meaning I can get out of bed at the end of the week"

"Good" Luke smiled stroking his son little head. Ines felt he was sad

"What happened? You talked to Han didn't you?" She asked him, making him nod, and Ines knew what happened. "Oh no! How are they?"

"Han is sad and Leia is devastated too but you know that Leia would never show that. She was always strong"

Ines nod in agreement. She knew her friend very well to know that even suffering, she always put that mask of strong girl and that nothing was bothering her, but deep inside she knew she was heart breaking. So she knew that was happening right now with her.

"I can't imagine what they are going through" she said looking at her son that she was breastfeeding right now. The idea of losing him, was very painful that she didn't want to think about it.

Luke knew what she was thinking and he felt the same. But they were not alone. They had them any time they needed.

There was knock on the door and two servants came with small table with their breakfast.

"Here is the breakfast"

"Oh thank you so much. You can leave there" Luke thanked them

"Can we?" the youngest asked seeing the baby and Luke looked at Ines who nod as they approached

"Oh he is so cute and so small"

"Wish all the good to raise him"

"Thanks" Ines said with a smile and with a bow the servants left the bedroom, closing the door behind them, leaving Luke and Ines alone with their Ben.

Coruscant:

Han entered inside their bedroom with a tray with Leia's breakfast. The first moment he entered, she sat down in bed, resting her back on the bed headboard

"Who was calling? It was Luke? When he will return?" she asked

"Hey take it easy" Han said putting the tray in front of her "First eat, you need it" he told her making her sighed "Then, yes it was Luke and well he and Ines will stay longer they were expecting"

"What do you mean? They were supposed to return in 2,3 days max"

"Well change of plans" Han said. He didn't know if he would tell her about being aunt

"Why? What happened? Look I felt something was happening with Ines yesterday." Leia told him

"Luke and Ines will return in 2 or 3 weeks max."

"Why?"

Han looked at her

"Because Ines needed to recovered. She gave birth yesterday at the end of the day"

Leia looked at Han. So her sister in law was being a mother at the same time she was loosing hers.

"Lucky them" she said under her breath

"You suppose to be happy. After all your nephew just born. The son of your twin brother."

"How can I be happy when I lost our baby yesterday"

"And what is the fact that your brother was being a father, as to do with the fact that we lost ours. One thing as nothing to do with the other. I'm happy for Luke and Ines. They deserved that."

"And we don't"

"Leia. Are you saying you wish that Ines had some complications at birth and something bad happen to their baby, because we lost ours? I will not believe that you ever thought of that. That is not you and I hope you didn't think that" Han said standing up and leaving the bedroom shaking his head.

Leia didn't say anything. Of course she would not wish that to her sister in law and baby nephew, but why Ines had to give birth the same time she lost hers. It felt like she was only doing that to shove on her face when she return that she had her bundle of joy and she was able to take a pregnancy full term and she didn't.

Pulling the tray aside, she laid back in bed.

Leia sadly lost her baby. Will that occasion be the beginning of a conflict between her and Ines. How Luke would react if that happens?
