Although it hurt her to write it at all, she worded her letter carefully. In it she told Doc all of her feelings about why she couldn't go back to Texas with him. As she
put the envelope into the mailbox, she hoped that he would understand. She wasn't Lula Mae Barnes anymore and never would be Lula Mae again.
