VILLAIN/TEMPTRESS
After a fight on their road to find the Avatar and Zuko, Azula and Ty Lee lie side by side in their tent, quiet and bathed in starlight.
"Can I tell you a secret?"
"Of course."
"Even if it's a treasonous thought?"
"You can trust me."
That has never been true, yet despite that, Ty Lee feels she can trust Azula completely.
"When I think about all the stuff we've done, and all the stuff I've seen, I kinda wonder if we're still the good guys."
Azula pauses. She never expected the people pleasing Fire Nation noble to ever say something so dangerous and bold. Save for when she told Azula she wanted to be together romantically (and Azula shockingly agreed).
"I don't care if we're the alleged bad guys or not," says Azula at last. "I only care about getting what I want."
"Yeah. I guess nobody is clean of doing anything bad in war." Ty Lee rests her head on Azula's chest and listens to her heartbeat.
"Why are you even think about this nonsense?" Azula quietly asks.
Ty Lee squirms a little, but answers her honestly, "I know it's selfish. But maybe deep down I just feel like the good guys wouldn't say we can't be together because a marriage between us would have no political value."
"I will be with you no matter who I marry."
But that does not sound like a happy ending to Ty Lee. More like a tragedy.
"We could disappear. Be together forever."
Azula is disgusted at herself for the few long moments that she finds that tempting.
"I won't give up my empire for love. It is not a reasonable trade."
"I… I know." Ty Lee kisses Azula's cheek.
They fall silent until they fall asleep.
