A/N: Post Wild Cards and Pre-Starcrossed.

John and Shayera were sitting in a downtown café in Detriot. It was small place where the customers never bothered the two Justice League members, which was probably why they both enjoyed the place so much. The public of Detriot had a very high level of respect for the resident Green Lantern. For the most part, the people of Detriot never bothered John when he was out in public. This seemed to extend to Shayera as they never bothered her either when she was out with him. That and no newspapers in Detriot ever printed on their covers that Green Lantern and Hawkgirl were dating.

John had ordered a coffee since it was freezing outside. While hating the winter time, Shayera didn't seem to care what temperature it currently was; she had ordered a cherry icee as she had never heard of it before. The two had sat in the corner of the café so that they were out of the way of others. It was right next to a large window. John and Shayera sat there every time, mostly because Shayera loved to look outside and watch the people that walked by.

John turned his head and looked outside. Right now the streets were empty since it was late. The café was open twenty-four hours. Currently it was past midnight, as the two had just gotten back from a League mission. Snow was flurrying down from the dark sky, layering the road and sidewalk with a thin coat of white powder.

John looked back at Shayera and watched as she had taken off the lid so she could chug the red liquid inside. It didn't take her long before she had finished. She flashed him a smirk as she set her empty cup down on the table before her eyes widened.

"Ow," she groaned, putting the palms of her hands to sides of her head. She gritted her teeth as John began to lightly chuckle. Shayera casted him a confused look. "John!" she frowned. "Something's wrong! I think...I don't know! My head hurts!"

John couldn't help but begin to laugh. The Thanagarian looked mortified and slightly offended. "Hawkgirl," he said in his laughter. "You've got a brain freeze. You drank that way too fast."

She gawked at him for a few moments before she groaned that 'it hurts' again. John shook his head, as he calmed his laughter.

"Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth," he suggested with a light chuckle.

The Thanagarian followed his instructions and sat there with her mouth slightly agape for about a minute before groaning and shaking her head. "It's not working," she complained before sending a glare towards the empty icee cup.

"Odd, it should," John lightly chuckled again. "Must be cause you're Thanagarian, I guess," he suggested. Shayera shrugged and muttered another complaint. John rolled his eyes. "You'd think you have never had a brain freeze before." The Thanagarian didn't reply and raised an unamused eyebrow at him. "You've never had a brain freeze before?"

"Obviously I never did. It still hurts," she mumbled.

John handed her his coffee cup. "Try this," she nearly started to chugged it, so he lightly backhanded her on the shoulder. "Not the whole thing, I still want some coffee for myself." Shayera rolled her eyes as she took only four sips from it. "Well?" She only groaned and shook her head in response, giving him back to cup. John shook his head in amusement. He tried to think of other methods he had learned over the years to cure brain freezes but couldn't think of anything.

"I'm all out of ideas. You got any?"

"You know," she started as John downed the rest of the coffee. "I actually just recalled a method for treating brain freeze."

"Oh really?" John asked. Shayera grinned and leaned towards him. "And what's that?" He asked with a smirk, although he knew perfectly well where Shayera was going with this.

"Well, basically it's..." she grabbed hold of his shoulders and pulled him forward, softly pressing her lips against his. She felt him grin so she leaned back again. Her smug expression said it all.

"You said you never had a brain freeze?"

"Nope," she replied and captured his mouth again. In response John wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her in close. Shayera wrapped her arms around his neck. John eventually had to pull back from her. Being Thanagarian, Shayera could easily hold her breath far longer than John.

"We'd better get going if you still want to get takeout for dinner," he grinned as they stood to leave. "You still hungry?"

Shayera slyly smirked as she wrapped her arms around his, "Not for food."
