Chapter 62 – Old Memories
1 week later:
Luke was helping loading their luggage inside the boat. It has being 2 weeks since they arrived in Varykino and since Ines gave birth, now it was time to get home, but first they needed to introduce their baby to his great grandparents, and to Queen Naluma, but before heading back to Coruscant, he wanted to go somewhere else. He had this in his mind since Ines was about to get into labor.
Ines was inside the bedroom. Ben was awake and she had putting on his tummy, making the baby, raise his head once in awhile, looking around with his big eyes, get his head on the bed when he got to tired.
Luke entered in the room
"Everything is ready to go" he started when he saw his baby laying on his tummy with his head in the air. Kneeling at the foot of the bed, he smiled "Look at you" he said making the baby fix his eyes on his father's face. "You know I'm your father, don't you" and he kissed his little forehead
"He is a strong boy" Ines said smiling, rubbing his little back.
"Ready to leave?" he asked her making Ines nod.
"Sadly yes" she replied and grabbing Ben's blue blanket and picking him up, she lay on top of it and pick the baby in her arms, while Luke grabbed the baby's bag, they both left the house, smiling when the servants were waiting for them to say goodbye.
"Oh please don't make me cry" Ines started "My hormones are still all over the place" she said making them laugh.
Once they saw Yolla, they hugged the midwife.
"Thank you for taking care of them" Luke said to her.
"You're welcome. It was a pleasure and an honor" Yolla said smiling at Ines and the baby.
"Luke is right. Thank you for being there when I was giving birth." Ines hugged her with one arm while holding her baby on the other.
Yolla smile at the baby, who was starting to close his eyes and fall asleep.
"Going to miss you"
"We will return. We promise" Luke replied.
As they walked outside a 9 year old girl came running alongside with her uncle and aunt.
"Hey Luna" Ines smiled at the black hair and brown eyes girl.
"Can I see him one more time?" she asked Ines, making her smile and leaning down she show Ben sleeping.
"Luna, you will see Ben again when you go to Coruscant" her uncle said
"I know, but he is not so small back then"
"But he will still be a baby" Luke told her and crouching in front of her "Who knows, maybe you can take care of him for a while when you don't have classes back in the Temple"
"Really?" she smiled at him
"Well we will be there with you and your future classmates"
"Cool" she said making Luke stand up and stroke her hair, looking back to her uncle and aunt
"When I officially open the Academy I can pick her up if you want" he told them
"If you don't mind, can we take her ourselves?" her aunt asked him.
Luke knew why she asked that and he understood. He would do the same for sure.
"Of course. It will be a pleasure to show you where your niece will be living for a while. But she can come here to visit you too. After all I want the kids who have families, have some vacations and visit their families too. And you aren't that lucky young lady, cause our vacation is here, so you don't even get rid of us, not even on your vacations" he laughed making Luna laughed
"I don't mind. At least I can play with him"
"I think the main focus on her is our baby" Ines giggled. "Luke we better go"
Luke nod and after saying goodbye to all of them, they entered inside the boats with R2 and they had to Theed.
A few hours later Luke and Ines had reached Luke's grandparents, with R2 and knock on the door. After a while the door opened and Iury appeared at the door. The first moment she saw she smiled
"Master Luke" and looking at inside she yelled "Sir! Ma'am! Your grandson his here" and then she looked to Luke and Ines "Please come in" and gasped when saw the baby "Oh My" she said looking at him.
"What is it. Iury?" Ruwee appeared from inside and the moment he saw Luke he smiled and pulled his grandson into a hug, being followed by Jobal.
"Luke! Ines" she smiled and stopped when she saw Ines holding Ben. "Oh my Goodness" she approached her and gasped when she saw the baby sleeping on Ines arms.
"We are about to get home but we couldn't leave without say goodbye to you and showing your great grandson" Ines said smiling to her baby.
"He is beautiful" Jobal smiled "May I?"
"Of course" Ines nod and Jobal just grabbed Ben, making the baby wimp for being moved from his mother's arms. That made Jobal giggled as she held Ben closer to her chest
"I know, you were so comfy on your mothers arms and now you are being moved" she said looking at her baby great grandson, as she adjust him on her arms. "You are a big boy. How old is he?"
"2 weeks old" Luke replied
"He is very good for a 2 week old baby" Ruwee said smiling
"Is your milk good?" Jobal asked Ines, making her nod "That is good. Yes it is" she said smiling to Ben "I miss when your mother and your aunt were like this. Enjoy while you can, cause they grow so fast. Yes you do." she smiled
"And thank you for suggest Yolla, she was amazing" Ines told Jobal
"I knew you would be in a good hands" Jobal smiled
"So, you are leaving already?" Ruwee said
"Yes, it is time to got home, but we will return." Luke informed him
"Next time bring your sister. We really want to meet her" Jobal told him
"I will grandmother" he smiled and looked at Ines. "We need to go babe. We don't want to get to late. Besides I want to stop somewhere else before we head back home"
Ines nod and Jobal handle her Ben and they said their goodbyes.
When they were walking down the street, Ines looked at Luke
"Where are we going before?"
"You'll see" he smiled "But we need to say goodbye to Queen Naluma first"
Reaching the Palace, the Queen received them with a smile on her face.
"When I received the news about the baby I was so happy" she said looking at the baby sleeping in Ines arms "He is beautiful. Congratulations for both of you"
"Thank you, your majesty" Ines smiled at Queen.
"And thank you for everything. You really helped us a lot" Luke agreed smiling
"You don't need to thank me. You are all welcome here anytime you want" The Queen smiled at them
"Your parents where ever they are, I'm sure they are so proud of you and they are watching their grandson" Mr. Hatickson said to Ines who smiled to the old man with tears in her eyes.
"I hope so" she said
Saying their final goodbyes they left Naboo with the promise they would return very soon
Tatooine:
The ship landed. Once the ramp touched the ground, Luke walked off, with Ines next to him, with Ben closer to her and being followed by R2 who beeped when he rolled out.
Ines knew where they were
"Luke, was this where you lived: the Moister Farm?"
He looked at her and then to his son and nod
"I wanted to show you where I was raised and I needed to visit my family, one last time" he said as he walked out. R2 beeped making Luke look at him "I know R2, it brings old memories, doesn't it"
Luke walked out and then he heard his aunt called him and he saw himself, with 19 years old, looking down at her:
"Luke, tell you uncle if he gets a translator, be sure it speaks Bocce" aunt Beru asked him
"Doesn't look like we have much of a choice, but I'll remind him" he told her.
He saw the Jawa's transportations and all the droids line up. The memory made him smiled.
"What is it?" Ines asked, making sure Ben was protected from the suns lights.
"I was remembering the day my Uncle Owen bought 3PO and R2. We almost didn't get R2."
"Why not?"
"My uncle choose a Red one instead of R2, but it had a bad motivator. I was actually upset when he asked me to clean them in the garage cause I wanted to go to Tosche Station" he laughed remembering that. Looking away he saw him and Uncle Owen:
"Take these two to the garage. I want them cleaned up before dinner"
"But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters"
"You can waste time with your friends when your chores are done"
"When was that?" Ines asked him, bringing back to reality.
"The day before we met" he looked at her. "Come let's get inside and get out of the suns.
Walking inside, everything was so different. The damage from the stormtroopers were still visible, as a lot of think was burn.
As they reached downstairs, they looked around
"They really destroyed a lot?" Ines looked around, looking once in a while to her baby, to be sure he was protected.
"Yes" Luke nod looking around.
He looked at the kitchen and the images of him and Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru appeared sitting by the dinner table:
"I think those new droids are gonna work out fine. In fact, I was also thinking about our agreement, about me staying on another season. If these new droids work out, I want to apply to the academy this year."
"You mean the next semester before the harvest?"
"Sure. There's more than enough droids"
"Harvest is when I need you the most. It's only one season more. This year we'll make enough on the harvest to hire more hands and then you can go to the academy next year. You must understand I need you here, Luke"
"But it's whole another year"
"It's only one more season"
"That's what you said when Biggs and Tank left."
"Where are you going?" Aunt Beru asked him
"Looks like I'm going nowhere. I have to finish cleaning those droids"
Luke smiled as he watched him passed by and leave upset that Uncle Owen made him stay here. He was really eager to leave that place. He did, the next day, he just didn't want to leave the way he left, with his family dead. But he was 19 at the time, and he was not a farm boy, never was. That was almost 5 years ago.
A wimping baby made him looked back at Ines, who was trying to calm down their 2 week old son. It was time for his meal. His son was a clock when the subject was food. He smiled at that thought: His son. Yes, he left here as a young, 19 years old boy, filled with dreams of adventure. Now, he was almost 24 and he was a married man and a father.
Walking towards Ines, he rest his right hand on a very upset baby's head and looked at his wife.
"It's his meal time" she giggled looking at him "What?"
He leaned forward and kissed her, which she accepted gladly. Once he pulled apart, he looked at his son and taking him on his arms, he looked at Ines.
"There is somewhere we need to go before we leave" and he climbed up, being followed by Ines and R2.
Once they got outside, he head to an open space and stopped what he seamed two graves.
Ines heart broke, imagining him, buried his family at 19 years old.
Luke stopped and looked at the graves
"Hey Uncle Owen! Aunt Beru! It's me Luke. I know it has being almost 5 years. A lot of things happened since we last saw each other. The Empire is no more. We now have a New Republic. I'm no longer that 19 years old farm boy. I'm almost 24 now and I'm a great pilot and Jedi Knight, like my father before me. But during those almost 5 years, something wonderful has happened in my life. The day you died, I met the love of my life, my wife and the mother of my son. This is Ines. You would liked her Aunt Beru, and this hungry baby is my son Ben. I wish you could see me now Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. I hope I got you two proud" he said sadly.
Ines looked at Luke and then to graves
"Thank you for taking care and raise him so well." she said smiling at her husband. "And I'm sure they are very proud of you Luke"
Luke smiled at her, as Ben started to crying loudly, indicating he was hungry
"We better leave so I can feed this hungry baby" Ines smiled, taking Ben from Luke's arms and started heading to the ship. Luke took one last look to his old home, as he entered the ship and lifting off he head to his new home: Coruscant with his family.
Luke found another future student. And what did you think of the fact that he return to Tatooine to pay one last visit to his former farm and the graves of his uncle and aunt?
