Chapter 62
No Cure
Lucy
Finally, the mansion was in sight. Siegrain was still being supported by Loke, and they had slowed down tremendously. Siegrain was struggling to keep himself conscious and it showed. I ran ahead to the two Rune Knights guarding the front door.
"Help," I shouted as I ran in their direction, "We need help right now."
The two knights looked at each other in confusion, before they noticed Siegrain and Loke further back. The immediately took off running towards the two of them. They took Siegrain from Loke and escorted him into the building. Loke and I followed them into the building.
"Someone, get a doctor!" A Rune Knight called out to his companions, as he escorted Siegrain into a room with a bunch of beds.
He laid Siegrain on the bed and turned to me.
"What happened?"
"Oracion Seis poisoned him." I informed him.
"What's all this commotion about?" came Lahar's voice.
The magic council representative walked in along with the Blue haired woman who owned the building. Behind them was a man in a white lab coat, pushing past them to the front.
"Hey, watch it." I heard Wendelyn mutter.
I repeated that he had been poisoned to the doctor.
"Do you know what kind of poison was used?"
"Uh…no, it came from the Celestial Spirit Ophiuchus though." I told him.
"It's extremely potent and needs to be neutralized NOW!" Loke informed him with urgency.
The doctor inspected Siegrain's arm. His veins gave purple glow.
"I'm afraid I don't know what kind of poison a Celestial Spirit uses." The doctor explained, "Can you give me a name?"
"I've only ever known it as Ophiuchus' Poison. If you have another name for it, I don't know it."
The doctor sighed in frustration, "Tell me exactly what happened."
I went on to describe Siegrain's battle as best as I could. Loke added in that by the time he was summoned Siegrain was already out of the battle. He also reassured the doctor that no one else was bitten by the snake.
"I'll need to make a call." The doctor said before walking out of the room.
"I…don't like…the sound of that." Siegrain managed to groan out.
He was clutching the bed, his pain obvious. I hated seeing him like this. I'd never seen him look so weak like this. For as long as I could remember, he'd always looked so strong, whether it be by strength or character.
"I'm sure he'll come up with something." Lahar assured him.
I grabbed his good hand between my own, "We'll get through this. If you could survive the Tower of Heaven, you can survive this."
Wendelyn scoffed, "Please, like this is comparable to the Tower of Heaven."
I chose to ignore her. I don't know why she chose to take a jab like that, but what was important right now was being there for Siegrain.
The doctor came back in hurry and showed Wendelyn a piece of paper, "Ma'am, you wouldn't happen to have these ingredients?"
Wendelyn took a glance at the piece of paper and said, "How the hell should I know? Ask Shelly."
A blue haired maid appeared in the doorway. I'm not sure if she was always there or not, but I assume she is this Shelly character. She took a look at the paper.
"I'm sorry, we don't have any of those. Or…at least I don't think we do."
"What do you mean you don't think you have it?" The doctor asked, "Do you not know what they are?"
The maid shook her head.
The doctor described some of the ingredients to her, but it was obvious it just wasn't clicking, or they didn't have the ingredient.
"So…guess…that means…no cure." Siegrain heaved out.
"Told you," Wendelyn said matter-of-factly, "Nothing like the Tower of Heaven."
Siegrain glared in Wendelyn's direction. I could feel the hate oozing off of him. He so clearly didn't enjoy her company and didn't want her around him at all.
"Can you…PLEASE leave."
"And what if I don't want to?" She leaned in closer to Siegrain, taunting him, "What are you going to do?"
"Wendelyn, enough!" Lahar cried out, "I don't know what's gotten into you, but now is not the time for this!"
"Oh, I just think this is justice." Wendelyn replied.
Part of me was curious as to what made Wendelyn meant, but I was too focused on Siegrain to really care. I turned my attention back to Siegrain and helped the doctor and Loke make him comfortable.
"Wendelyn, I think you need to step out for a bit." Lahar advised her.
"Fine, it's not like I wanted to help him anyways."
Despite his struggling, Siegrain managed to get out, "Like…you could help."
Wendelyn had just started to step away when he said that. She stopped in her tracks and addressed the room.
"Silly Siegrain, whatever you got from those archives, doesn't even scratch the surface of what I can do."
"Hold on, do you actually have a way to cure him." Lahar asked.
"I do,"
Everyone looked at Wendelyn in anticipation. Seeing as everyone expected her to go through with this, she motioned for some people to follow her. Lahar and Shelly exited the room with her. I followed shortly after when Siegrain motioned for me to follow them.
Wendelyn led us into a large library. She took a seat a desk and pulled out a lacrima from one of the drawers. She then unlocked another drawer. She pulled out an old leather book. Written on the cover was "Belserion". She began sifting through the pages.
"Belserion…" Lahar muttered in thought.
Wendelyn suddenly slammed the book shut. She went over to the lacrima and punched in a phone number.
"Who are you calling?" Lahar asked.
"An old friend."
We all waited patiently for the lacrima to connect. Well, I wasn't all that patient. My heart was racing. My fears grew the longer we waited, what if this friend didn't pick up? What if they did and couldn't help at all?
Fortunately, someone did pick up. Two young girls, who looked no older than me. One of these girls had dark blue hair and wore a head band across her forehead. The other girl had orange hair tied into cute pigtails.
"Hi Auntie Marvell!" The orange haired girl exclaimed.
Both me and Lahar looked at Wendelyn confused. When she said an old friend, we expected someone older. To our surprise, it seemed she wasn't expecting these girls either.
"Idiot, she doesn't know us!" The other girl replied, "My apologies Miss Marvell, my name is Heine Lunasea, and my sister is Juliet Sun."
"We're Irene's kids!" Juliet replied with a bright smile.
"Lady Irene."
"Uh…yeah…whatever." Wendelyn shook her head, "Look, go get Irene. I need her."
"Um…Mom's sleeping." Juliet replied.
"Lady Irene is sleeping."
Juliet pouted at her sister.
"I don't care, go get her." Wendelyn ordered the two girls.
"Do as your told," came a third, male voice over the lacrima.
"Are you sure, Larcade?" Heine replied to someone off screen.
Wendelyn's eyes perked up on hearing that name.
The girls got up and left the view of the lacrima.
Lahar leaned in closer to Wendelyn and whispered in an accusatory tone, "Is this who I think it is?"
Wendelyn looked back at Lahar and replied in her normal voice, "Who do you think it is?"
Lahar shot her a look before whispering, "Irene Belserion."
I had a feeling I knew who they were talking about, but I thought there was no way that it was actually her! I remember learning about the founder of the Ten Wizard Saints, who's name happened to be Irene Belserion. But she was declared dead after the War with Alvarez several years ago.
"Yeah."
Lahar's eyes widened in horror, "Why do you have her number?"
"She's an old friend."
"She's an enemy of the state!" Lahar blurted out.
Before Wendelyn could reply, a new voice came from the lacrima, "Well, nice to meet you too."
Appearing on the lacrima was a woman with scarlet red hair. It covered the side of her face and was pretty messy. She looked like she was barely awake.
"You can ignore him." Wendelyn told the woman.
"New boyfriend?"
"Yes."
The woman, who I assume to be Irene, sighed, "I do wish you would just settle down already."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Listen that's not why I called you."
"Well then, please enlighten me as to why I had to be woken up in the middle of the night?"
"I need to know how to cure a poison."
"…what did you do?"
"I didn't do anything! Someone got poisoned and we don't have a cure for it."
"Oh boy, what kind of poison?"
"Ophiuchus."
A smile graced Irene's lips, "That's a pretty nasty one. Who's the poor sap who got poisoned?"
"Siegrain Fernandes, a Ten Wizard Saint."
Irene's smile disappeared, "I'm sorry, I can't help you."
I stepped up and got in the view of the lacrima. I didn't even care if she was 'an enemy of the state' if she could help, then I was going to do whatever I could to persuade her.
"Please, we need your help, he's a close friend!"
I could see the sorrow in her eyes, as Irene told me, "I'm sorry, simply by taking this call, I'm risking my own livelihood. Relations between Alvarez and Fiore aren't exactly the best."
That name struck a cord with me, Alvarez. When I was very young, Fiore was at war with the Alvarez Empire. No, not just Fiore, all of the continent of Ishgar.
"I agree, I think it's time we ended this call." Lahar replied.
Before anything could go through though, Wendelyn spoke up, "What if we gave you some valuable information?"
"Wendelyn!"
Irene smiled again, "I suppose if you were to give me information, I could help you."
"No deal!" Lahar shouted.
"Deal." Wendelyn replied.
Irene actually casted her gaze upon me, "What about you? What's the girl from Fairy Tail think?"
A shiver ran down my spine. How did she know I was in Fairy Tail? I suppose she saw the guild mark, but what are the chances that she actually knows what it means?
"I…well…what kind of information do you want?"
"Smart girl." Irene replied, "Just some personal information. I'm sure Wendelyn could supply it easily. No doubt she already knows what I'll ask."
Wendelyn entered a state of thought. It looked like she actually wasn't sure what Irene was asking.
"So, do we have a deal?"
"No!" Lahar repeated.
"…Yes."
Irene nodded her head, "Good. Now then, since I assume you don't have any antidotes, your going to have to rely on the body itself to fight off the poison."
I couldn't believe it! She was just giving us our information! Was she so confident that we would keep our word? I guess she knew Wendelyn so well that there was no way she would go back on her words.
"Normally, the human immune system isn't strong enough to fight off Ophiuchus's venom, so it will have to be modified to handle it. This will require a high-level enchantment. Furthermore, you will also have to weaken the venom. A mid-grade enchantment should be all you need to accomplish that. Finally, he will need a blood transfusion. If he's a wizard saint, his blood type should be kept in a database. If nothing else, I do know that your blood type is O, so you could use your own blood."
"Great, I can do all the work." Wendelyn replied dryly.
"Sorry sweetie." Irene replied.
"Whatever, is there anything else I need to know?"
"I think you've got it, you're a talented enchantress."
Wendelyn giggled to herself, "I was trained by the best."
"That you were." Irene replied, "Now, time for your end of the deal."
"Right, what is it you want to know?"
I saw Lahar tense up. Clearly, he wanted to end the conversation right now.
"Simple…how are my kids?"
Realization hit Wendelyn like a bus. Lahar calmed down considerably. Any fear that she wanted government secrets were alleviated.
"Right, okay. Let's start with the girl. She's…an S-Class mage at Fairy Tail, and she recently got into a ton of trouble with the magic council. I believe she's on probation though and had her magic license revoked. Right?"
Wendelyn turned to me, and my jaw was already on the floor. It was obvious who she was referring to.
"Y-yeah." I replied.
"And as for your son, he is also a member of Fairy Tail, I actually just met him today. He's taken up the art of Dragon Slaying…and you'll never guess who taught him."
Irene looked very surprised.
"The Dragon King himself."
Her eyes widened in shock and awe, "You're kidding."
"Dead serious."
Irene leaned back in her chair, "That's…surprising."
There was silent on both ends of the lacrima now. I was floored by the knowledge that Natsu and Erza were related to this woman! Furthermore, this proved that they were related after all!
I was cut from my thoughts by a yawn elicited by Irene, "Well, I think we are done here. It was nice speaking with you again, Wendy."
"It was nice speaking to you too…big sis." Wendelyn replied.
The two bid their farewell and ended the call. We stood in silence in the library, before Wendelyn rose from her seat.
"Alright, let's get to it."
So who was expecting that? What do you think about Irene showing up right now, or the fact that Wendelyn knew her?
Let me know what you thought about this chapter in a review. The feedback really is helpful.
