Chapter 63

The Terror of a Wizard Saint

Lucy

I was sitting by Siegrain's bed resting my eyes. I had already sent Loke back to the Celestial Spirit Realm, which felt like a huge weight off my shoulders. Siegrain had finally calmed down and was sleeping peacefully. The procedure went off without a hitch and it looked like he was going to pull through!

Siegrain's eyes fluttered open. He scanned the room, before looking directly at me.

"Lucy?"

I smiled warmly at him, "How are you feeling?"

He turned his attention to the ceiling, "Much better now. I guess the cure came in?"

Right, he had lost consciousness by the time we returned. I nearly had an episode when I thought we had lost him. Loke and the doctor assured me that he was alright though, not that it helped assuage my fears.

"No, we had to use a different method cure you." I informed him, "It's actually pretty cool. Wendelyn enchanted your immune system to fight off the venom."

Siegrain furrowed his brow, "She helped me?"

He didn't sound very convinced, "She did…say, do…do you know the name Irene Belserion?"

He looked at me with a confused expression, "The only Irene Belserion I know of is the one that founded the Ten Wizard Saints and created Etherion."

The part about Etherion was news to me.

"Why do you ask?"

I bit my lip. I debated whether or not to tell him but figured he should know.

"Wendelyn called a woman by that name."

"You wouldn't happen to have gathered any more information, did you?" The seriousness of the question struck me, as if I could be in trouble for simply knowing this.

"She was…affiliated with Alvarez."

Siegrain fell silent.

"And…she made it sound like…she was Natsu and Erza's Mom."

"I don't know about that last part." He replied, "But Lucy…you cannot talk about this with anyone. This is classified information, that if gotten out, could result in some major legal trouble."

I gulped.

"Just don't talk about it." He advised me, "It doesn't sound like you know much to begin with, but still, I'd rather be safe than sorry."

That was somewhat comforting.

"We can discuss this further at a later date." Siegrain replied.

I nodded my head. Although I was still worried, I trusted Siegrain. He wouldn't lead me astray, and I knew he had my back.

At that moment, the ground beneath us began to shake. I heard what sounded like magic erupting from the distance. I realized what that must mean: Nirvana had been found. A purple, ethereal, mist flooded the room. I looked out the window to see that the same was occurring everywhere.

"Is this…Nirvana?" Siegrain said, straining to get his words out.

I looked over to him and noticed he was being enveloped by a black aura. I shouted out to him and jumped up from my seat. I had no idea what to do, or what was going on. He almost seemed like he was in pain. I cried out for the doctor. The black aura began to recede into him, and Siegrain slowly began to calm down once more. His breathing was still rough, but it was getting better.

"Siegrain, are you okay?" I asked as the purple all around us began to dissipate.

Siegrain managed to get his breathing back under control. He stared up at the ceiling, not speaking a word.

"Siegrain?"

He held out a finger to silence me, "Be quiet."

My concern for him rose. He didn't seem hurt by the purple haze, but even I could tell he seemed off. He looked like he was deep in thought.

"What's wrong?" the doctor asked as he ran into the room, "Did that purple stuff do something?"

Siegrain began to lift himself from the bed, "No, I'm fine."

The doctor ran over to try and put him back into bed, but Siegrain just roughly threw the doctor off of him, knocking him to the ground.

"Siegrain!" I yelled as I ran over to help the doctor up.

"I said, I'm fine."

"Siegrain, where are you...?"

I never got to finish, as Siegrain replied to me, "None of your business."

Something was very wrong with him, so the doctor and I chased him out of the room and into the foyer. We came out into the foyer to find Wendelyn on her knees crying her eyes out. Lahar and Shelly were kneeling next to her trying to comfort her. Across from us was Siegrain, and he looked furious. There was definitely something wrong here.

"The hell are you crying about?" Siegrain called out.

"S-Siegrain?" Makeup ran down her face as she looked up at the Wizard Saint. Her eyes widened in shock.

"What's an evil bitch like you got to cry about?"

I covered my mouth in shock. I had never heard Siegrain speak like that. He was always so refined and careful with his speech.

Wendelyn picked herself up off the ground, "Shelly, Lahar, get away."

Seeing how angry Siegrain was, the two followed her instructions without question. Even I was slowly backing away from him as magic radiated off his body.

"Siegrain, you need to calm down." Wendelyn pleaded, "You aren't in the right frame of mind."

"No, I'd say I'm in quite the right frame of mind." Siegrain argued, "A traitor like you needs to be punished, and the punishment for treason, is death!"

Siegrain lifted his hand towards Wendelyn. A golden yellow light enveloped his hand as he prepared to fire his magic at her. Everyone in the room shouted for him to stop, but he wouldn't listen. A powerful magical missile burst forth from his palm and struck Wendelyn in her midsection. The attack kept going and crashed through the wall to the outside, where it finally erupted.

"Siegrain!" I shouted.

"Shut it, Lucy." Siegrain said, "I'm ending her."

"But why?"

Siegrain walked ominously forward, "Because…it's her fault."

"Wh-what do you mean?"

I chased after him, with Lahar and Shelly following. The doctor seemed to be too scared to move.

We stepped outside through the wall Siegrain blasted through to find Wendelyn picking herself up out of the dirt. She didn't look too hurt, though her outfit was damaged from the impact.

"I never did like you." Siegrain confessed, "Ever since I learned about you, I thought you were a terrible person."

"Siegrain…I-I'm sorry!" she replied, "I want to make it up to you, I really do!"

Siegrain ignored her and continued, "And then I find out your consorting with the enemy."

Lahar looked over to me, "You did not tell him!"

"I'd didn't think he would react like this!"

Wendelyn began walking forward, slowly and cautiously, "Siegrain, you aren't thinking straight. I know you don't trust me, but you need to listen to me. You aren't in control, let me put you back in control. Let me help you."

Siegrain's eyes twitched as he heard her speak.

"Enough out of you." Siegrain moved his arms so they were on top of each other. His top hand had his index and middle finger spread out, while his bottom hand had his palm open. A massive amount of magic began to gather around us. I couldn't believe how much magic he was able to use given his current state.

"Siegrain, stop!"

Siegrain glared at me before saying, "Be judged by the Seven Stars, Grand Chariot!"

Seven Magic circles formed a constellation over Wendelyn. I saw the panic in her eyes as she realized what was about to happen. The last thing I saw, before the attack descended upon her, was Wendelyn bringing her index finger up to her temple.

The impact knocked me from my feet into the wall behind me. The intense magical power washed over me as I shielded my eyes from the blast. The whole Earth seemed to shake as Siegrain's spell struck Wendelyn. No normal person could survive an attack like that.

My ears were ringing as I cautiously opened my eyes. As my hearing returned to me, I could hear Siegrain laughing…maniacally. It sent a shiver down my spine.

"Siegrain!" I heard Lahar yell, "What did you do!"

Siegrain turned to us with a creepy smile, "Right…she was you girlfriend, wasn't she?"

I was really getting scared of Siegrain now. He had a crazy look in his eyes, like he might just kill Lahar for being in a relationship with her.

"If you want, I can send you to her!" Siegrain pointed his hand towards Lahar, ready to blast him into oblivion. Oh, I wish I was wrong.

Suddenly, a voice called out from the crater formed by Grand Chariot, "That's enough, you brat."

I couldn't believe my eyes, rising from the ashes of Grand Chariot, was Wendelyn. Her clothes were badly damaged, but besides a cut in her head bleeding down her face, she looked totally fine. How did she manage to survive that?

"How are you still alive?" Siegrain asked, lowering his hand and echoing my thoughts.

"Oh honey, it's going to take a hell of a lot more than that to take me down." She said with a smirk.

Wendelyn's entire demeanor seemed to have changed yet again. She almost seemed like she was back to normal now. There was an air of confidence around her now.

Siegrain turned fully to face Wendelyn, "Oh, I'm going to enjoy this."

Wendelyn cracked her neck, "As am I."

"Meteor!" With a flash of golden light, Siegrain darted to Wendelyn's position.

Wendelyn had virtually no time to respond as he swung for her face. She took the hit but was still able to use a spell of her own.

"Enchant: Speed." Siegrain went for another blow, but this one Wendelyn was able to dodge, "Enchant: Durability."

Siegrain's went for another blow, but this one was effectively blocked by Wendelyn's arm. While she still showed signs of pain from his first attack, she showed no sign of feeling pain from his second attack. Wendelyn cocked her fist back and readied an attack of her own.

"Now it's my turn," She said with a wicked smile, "Enchant: Strength!"

Wendelyn connected a blow with Siegrain's midsection and rocketed him back into the mansion. Parts of the building crumbled around us, forcing Lahar, Shelly, and I to take safety away from the building. Rune Knights were in the process of evacuating themselves.

"Hey! You're paying for that!" Wendelyn yelled.

Siegrain busted out of the rubble and flew at Wendelyn. He got a few good hits in, but Wendelyn showed no signs of actually being affected by his attacks! She was effectively blocking and parrying his attacks. She looked like she was having fun!

"Is that the best you've got, Siegrain?" She taunted.

Siegrain cried out in frustration and, drawing more magic to himself, landed some powerful looking blows onto Wendelyn. This time, she actually stumbled back from his attack.

"I'm going to make you pay!"

Wendelyn quickly recovered, "And how exactly are you going to do it?"

She proceeded to roundhouse kick Siegrain away from her. He caught himself before he could crash into the mansion again. He stabilized himself and extended one arm so that his palm was facing up and shot his other arm straight up. With his index and middle finger extended, he called out his next attack.

"Pleiades!"

A bolt of light shot down from the sky on Wendelyn's position. She simply jumped out of the way and laughed.

"Seriously Siegrain, are you sure this is your best?"

Another bolt descended upon her, followed by another, and another. A total of six bolts descended upon her, but none managed to hit their target. Wendelyn was able to dodge each and every attack with no problem at all.

"Alright, I think I've seen enough. It's clear you don't stand a chance." Wendelyn said, "So how about you just give up before you actually get hurt?"

Siegrain looked back at Wendelyn with pure hatred. He spread his legs, so he was closer to the ground and pointed on hand down and another up. A chill ran down my spine as the raw magical power washed over my body. I felt paralyzed by fear. I felt that I should summon Horologium to take cover, but I couldn't move my arms to grab his key.

"Oh, is this your last-ditch effort to take me out?" Wendelyn asked smugly.

The sky began to part in a circle as a massive magic circle formed in the sky. The spell took shape soon after in the form of a gigantic golden meteor. I feared for my life. If, no when, that spell touched down, we would all be dead.

"Siegrain, you need to stop!" I yelled, "You're going to hurt us!"

For a moment, Siegrain looked back at me.

"Bring it!" Wendelyn called out, drawing his attention back to her.

Siegrain turned back to Wendelyn and finished casting his spell, "True Heavenly Body Magic: Sema!"

The meteor descended from the sky above us. I felt myself fall to my knees as the pressure overcame me. Tears flowed though my eyes as the attack struck Wendelyn. All I could do was close my eyes and wait for the explosion that never came.

I opened my eyes to Siegrain's own shocked expression. Wind blew past me as Sema threatened to eliminate us all, but standing across from Siegrain was Wendelyn, holding up the spell with just one arm. She wore a big smile and seemed to be enjoying this. I noticed that the arm that held up the spell almost appeared to be covered in scales.

Siegrain shook off his shock and added more magic to the spell. Wendelyn seemed to buckle under the pressure, forcing her arm to fall a bit.

"You die here!" He screamed.

The smile on Wendelyn's face never disappeared, as she threw her arm up into the air, and launched Sema far into the sky. My eyes widened in awe as she closed her palm and the spell detonated in the safety of the sky. The magic safely rained down on us from above. All I could wonder was "Just how powerful is this woman? She wasn't phased in the least by any of Siegrain's attacks!"

Siegrain could do nothing but watching in horror as Wendelyn calmly approached him. He slowly lifted himself back up from his crouching position. He reactivated Meteor and tried to hit Wendelyn once she was in range. She bobbed to the side and slammed her fist into his stomach. Siegrain took a step back and clutched his stomach, obviously in pain. She followed up with a punch in the face, knocking him to the ground.

She surveyed her hand, now covered in his blood, "Get up."

Siegrain tried to pick himself up, but Wendelyn wouldn't give him the chance. As he was getting on all fours, she kicked him once more, making him cough up blood.

Finally, my body started to respond to me, and I shouted at her, "Stop, he lost! Just end this!"

Wendelyn looked back at and sent shivers down my spine. She licked the blood from her hands and turned back to Siegrain. She knelt down beside him.

"Aw, your girlfriend wants me to stop?" she teased, "What do you say?"

To my horror, Siegrain attempted to headbutt the woman. He successfully hit her, but it did nothing to so much as budge her. She grabbed his hair and pulled. Siegrain groaned in pain.

"Now listen here you little brat. I get that you don't like me, and frankly, I don't care. But just because you're a Wizard Saint, doesn't mean you're stronger than me. Just where do you think you got your strength form? It sure as hell wasn't from your daddy. Oh no, you got it from me, your soulless mother."

My eyes widened in shock. It was all beginning to click now.

"I. Hate. You." He replied, "The Tower of Heaven…Jellal…it's all your fault."

"Boo hoo, cry me a river," She placed her free hand over his temple, "Personality Enchant: Reset!"

Siegrain cried out in more pain. I wanted to rush to his side, but Lahar grabbed my arm to prevent me from running. A black mist began to exit from his body, before dissipating into nothing. Wendelyn let go of him and let him fall down to the ground.

She stood back up and turned back to us, "Shelly, get me a change of clothes. Something a little more combat ready."

"But…" She looked back at the structural danger that was the mansion but decided messing with the woman who took down a Wizard Saint probably wasn't the best idea. "Y-yes Ma'am."

Lahar followed her into the building, most likely to make sure she was safe. Or to stay away from the scary woman that was Wendelyn.

"I'll be accompanying you for the remainder of this mission." Wendelyn told me with an excited smile, "I'm getting shivers, it's been so long since I'd last had a good fight."

I wasn't about to argue with her. Behind her, Siegrain was slowly rising to his feet. I ran over to him to help him up.

"Oh, and Siegrain, don't forget." She said, looking back at her son, "Despite all of that, my magic is still keeping you alive."
