White Demon and Fallen Angel
Avice's POV
So, I have to say it. Wonderland has looked better than this. But seriously, how many dimensions were out there, and how did the people of the other four miss this one and Graild's home? Like, how can you miss a whole-ass fucking dimension you fucking dimwits? I could understand Graild's dimension since there were a lot of things wrong with that one, but this thing is just a fucking road that goes on forever, or so I hoped. I just didn't feel like I would have the energy to get thrown into a wacky interdimensional adventure, INSIDE my whacky interdimensional adventure.
"Pyopara doesn't look much different from the last time I was here." Sola Starlit's spirit appeared next to me and looked around curiously. "But I was expecting some creepy ruins to be still standing, instead the whole thing has been leveled. Such a bummer."
"Wait, you've been here before?" I asked her mentally.
"As expected of an ancient spirit such as you," Oh yeah, that Zenith girl was here too, but it was easy to ignore her since-! Hold on a minute!
"Wait, you can hear my spirit talking?!" Yes, yes, I know, it was Yugioh, so that should be obvious, but no one else has been able to see her, friend or foe, so when this generic background character noticed her, it came out of nowhere.
"I've been born with the power to see spirits." Oh, so a Jaden knock-off then.
"Sola," I turned to my spirit. "Give me a quick rundown on what exactly Pyopara is."
"Oh, wonderful!" Sola clapped her hands together energetically. "Where do I start? Hmm-! Ah, yes! You see, originally Pyopara was just a small empty pocket dimension. Completely unrelated to the Yu-Gi-Ohverse and all of the different timelines and dimensions inside of it. That was until a group of colonists settled on this pocket dimension and, as most sapiens things do, decided that they can do God's work better than God and tried to increase the size of the pocket dimension. It all went horribly wrong and instead of the dimension getting bigger, it just got stretched out, like a rubber band. The endless road you see is just the entire world stretched to its breaking point. This also explains how our friends over here were able to sneak into the Arc-V Dimensions without getting noticed by the higher-ups, isn't that right?"
Zenith didn't respond, choosing to instead stand silent and give us a hand glare. I was starting to get what Sola was meaning. Since Pyopara wasn't a dimension related to the Yu-Gi-Ohverse, there wouldn't be any reason for Graild or other higher being to watch over it.
"Quite the smart play, if I say so myself," Sola crossed her arms smugly. "I had forgotten about this place until you brought us here, so it would be no surprise if the Guardians had forgotten about it too. I guess that I'll just have to remind them. Oh, wait, my Astral Angels have already done that."
"So?" Zenith decided to answer to Sola's provocation, raising her shoulders. "I decided to bring you here because there's no need to keep our usage of it hidden. It has already served its purpose."
"So you brought us here to gloat?" I smirked, activating my Duel Disk. "I guess it would be fair, but don't get used to things going your way. For one, this duel surely won't."
"Tough talk for a doll!" Zenith spat back at me, trying to… insult me? By calling me a doll? "Let's see if you have the skills to back up that talk."
"DUEL!" We both shouted in unison.
『Zenith LP: 4000 Hand: 5 (VS) Avice LP: 4000 Hand: 5』
"Old hags go second!" I shouted, taking a card from my hand. "I activate Star Transcendence! By releasing one Astral Angel in my hand, I can Normal Summon a monster with one level higher directly from my deck! I release the Level One Astral Angel Harmonograph Fünf to Normal Summon Astral Angel Accipit (Lv. 2, ATK: 800) from my Deck!"
The monk wearing a long white cloak with golden stripes appeared on my side of the field and held his staff up in front of its body.
"Next, if I Normal Summon an Astral Angel monster, I can Special Summon Astral Angel Geschwindigkeit Bord (Lv. 5, ATK: 1000)!" The flat blackboard with blue circuits running through it appeared next to my monk. "And now, I activateGeschwindigkeit Bord's second effect! I target one Astral Angel on my field and all the levels of all my monsters become the same as it! I choose Accipit!"
Astral Angel Geschwindigkeit Bord, Lv. 5 → 2
"And now! Using these two Level Two monsters, I built the overlay network!" My two monsters turned into golden beams of light that flew into a galaxy portal above our heads.
"The king of beasts whose blood is boiling for war! Raise from your throne of skulls and conquer this world! Xyz Summon! Rank Two! Astral Angel Wild Löwe!"
A surprisingly organic-looking monster appeared on my field. I wasn't sure how to describe it as the monster was literally a lion, a humanoid-lion to be exact. It was wearing a white chest plate and gauntlets, with a glowing red orb in the center of its chest. Large golden claws sticking out of the back of its wrist, and of course, it had fire coming out of the back of its arms and around its head like a mane.
Astral Angel Wild Löwe
Rank: 2/Attribute: LIGHT FIRE/Type: Beast/Xyz/Effect
ATK: 900/DEF: 900
2 Level 2 LIGHT monsters
Effect: If this card battles an opponent monster: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; this card's ATK becomes that monster's ATK, and that monster's ATK becomes this card's original ATK. These changes last until the end of the damage step. If this Xyz Summoned card you control has no Xyz Materials: Double this card's original ATK and DEF, also it cannot be destroyed by battle.
"I'll set a card and end my turn." My new Xyz Monster should prove capable of protecting me for this turn, and allow me to get a better idea of what type of opponent I'm facing.
"Are you seriously thinking that this beast would be enough to defend you against me?" Zenith narrowed her eyes. "I'm a Tracer too! I'm not stupid enough to fall for your tricks! My turn!"
『Turn 2 [Zenith] LP: 4000, Hand: 6』
"I activate a Normal Spell called BlooDark Style – Fatal Strike!" The card showed a masked assailant and a knight confronting each other, with the assailant having been stabbed into the stomach while they swing their sword at the knight's head. "I negate the effects of one monster you control, but in return, I must take damage equal to its attack points!"
BlooDark Style – Fatal Strike (Spell) Normal
Target 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls: Negate its effects, and if you do, take damage equal to its current ATK.
My monster growled and swung its claws, unleashing a powerful slash that connected with Zenith and sent the girl flying back, while my own monster dropped on its knees, panting and holding its chest.
『Zenith LP: 4000 - 800 → 3200』
"You know, there are a lot of other cards you could have used to negate my monster's effect without getting slapped around," I told her, though that 'BlooDark' part of her card's name… I felt like it wasn't just some random spell card she had put into that deck of hers.
"When I take any damage, I can Special Summon BlooDark Casualty – Decapitated!" The head of a commander of some sort appeared on the girl's side of the field with empty eye sockets. Just great, it was one of THOSE archetypes.
BlooDark Casualty – Decapitated
Level: 1/Attribute: DARK/Type: Zombie/Effect
ATK: 100/DEF: 0
Effect: If you take battle or effect damage, you can Special Summon this card from your hand in face-up Attack Position. If your opponent adds a card(s) from their Deck to their hand, except by drawing them, you can banish this card from your Graveyard to look at your opponent's card, then return 1 card from their hand to the top of their Deck.
"And when Decapitated is on my field, I can Special Summon BlooDark Casualty – Impaled from my hand, but at the cost of taking a hundred points of damage!" A large wooden spike appeared out of the ground, with a knight in light armor impaled on it through the chest. As soon as it did, Zenith was surrounded by a dark red aura that made her grimace.
BlooDark Casualty – Impaled
Level: 8/Attribute: DARK/Type: Zombie/Dark Tuner/Effect
ATK: 0/DEF: 0
Effect: If you control a Level 2 or lower "BlooDark Casualty" monster, you can Special Summon this card, and if you do, take 1000 points of damage. This card cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster, except for the Synchro Summon of a Dark Synchro Monster.
『Zenith LP: 3200 - 1000 → 2200』
"Ok then, I'll take a not so wild guess and say that you wear bandages on your hands because you like to cut yourself, right?" I sneered.
"Wrong," she deadpanned. "I wear bandages because of this."
She grabbed the ends of her bandages and started undying them, and I groaned. I was making fun of this idiot because of how edgy her damn deck was, I didn't actually care about what was under those damn bandages. But who am I kidding, of course, she was going to use this as an excuse to talk about her sad backstory. About how terrible her parents treated her, how she ran away and had to survive on the street on her own her entire life. Fucking edgelords, I swear.
"This!" She raised her hands and they were… burned. It, uh, it wasn't very pleasant to look at her hands, but the scars weren't that terrible.
"So you wanted to show me that you prefer burning instead of cutting?" I crossed my arms. "Weird flex, but ok."
"No…" She put a hand on her chest and lowered her head. Here comes the sad backstory! I told you, here it comes! "The world I was taken from… was different from this. I guess you could call our times the Middle Ages, or more suitable, a Dark Age. It was a grimdark world where monsters roamed the earth, dark sorceress destroyed whole kingdoms with their cursed armies. I, like my mother, had the power to hear spirits. Our bloodline was shunned, called witches, and forsaken by the rest of the human world. Even though we weren't malevolent, they banished us, leaving us in the dark forest to survive on our own."
"Aha," I rubbed my eyes trying to remain awake.
"I was the fifth generation. Living in a small hut deep into the forest, all we did was communicate with the forest spirits, following their will, helping Mother Nature."
"But one day, the humans came for you, didn't they?" Fool! I can already foresee where this story will go!
"Yes, they killed the beasts that were protecting us, burned our hut till nothing but ashes remained, and imprisoned us." Zenith gritted her teeth and clenched her fists in deep anger. "The council of the small town that imprisoned us found us guilty of dark witchcraft and the punishment was death. Both me, who was only seven, and my mother, were put to be burned at the stake. My mother died on that die. And I would have too if Miss Trevor hadn't saved me. She treated my wounds, taught me how to read and write, and raised me!"
"What a bittersweet story. Will you continue with your turn now?" I asked.
"But no matter how much time passes, the pain from those wounds will never cease." Slifer, please have mercy on me… "Every time I go to sleep, my mother's screams echo in my ears, and the face of the one responsible flashes in front of my eyes. A saint sent by the so-called Gods, a blessed soul that can heal any wound, the one that sentenced me and my mother to death was a girl named Avice Griffith!"
"Um… First off, I'm Avice Greyson, not Avice Griffith, you got the wrong person." I told her. "Second, if you were burned on the stake, shouldn't your legs be the ones that got burned instead of your hands? In fact, by the time the fire got to your hands, shouldn't your whole body be covered in third-degree burns? How are you even moving?"
"My mom's magic protected me."
"Oh, so there was magic involved? And you wonder why they found you guilty of witchcraft?"
"I'm not on a petty quest for revenge," now she's changing the topic! "You may not be Avice Griffith, but then tell me, why do you have the exact same face as her?"
"A coincidence? I wasn't even born with this face!" I shouted back at her. "It's the look I got when I got summoned into this world. Did you look the same in your world? Green hair and everything?"
"No, I did not." Zenith sighed. "But let's return to this duel! I Dark Tune the Level One BlooDark Casualty – Decapitated to the Level Eight BlooDark Casualty – Impaled!"
The large corpse on a stick transformed into eight black orbs that surrounded the head and then flew inside of it. The head became transparent, showing as one of the dark orbs merged with the single white orb inside the head, causing both of them to shatter along with the monster, as the remaining seven flew in a circle, unleashing dark electricity.
"From this battlefield of death, a lone survivor will arise to avenge the damned! Dark Synchro Summon! Negative Level Seven! The dark knight armed with a sword of blood, Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger!"
The shaking of chains could be heard as Zenith's monster rose from the darkness. Her skin was a pale white, like a ghost with long blood-red hair. Her orange eyes glared at me and I felt a chill run down my spine, looking at them felt like I was staring directly into a burning inferno of hatred. She wore a torn red dress and black stockings, but more importantly, her entire body was kept locked by chains. No, not just locked, those chains, each of them ended with a long sharp blade that was lodged into the monster's body. Her arms, her hips, even her chest and legs, all were pierced by those blades with thick lines of blood slowly flowing out of her wounds.
Suddenly, the monster screamed at the top of her lungs, her screams sounding like a screeching as she broke through the chains with the blades still lodged into her body. The blood that was flowing out of her suddenly flew upward and into her arm, crystalizing and turning into a long but slim claymore that she held.
Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger
Level: -7/Attribute: DARK/Type: Warrior/Dark Synchro/Effect
ATK: 2600/DEF: 2100
1 Non-Tuner Monster – 1 Dark Tuner Monster
Effect: While your LP is less than 1000, you take no damage. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 Equip Spell equipped to this card; return that target to your Deck, and if you do, equip 1 Equip Spell with a different name from that card from your Deck to this card. This card cannot be destroyed by battle while equipped with an Equip Spell.
"Hi there, Dark Synchro." I waved at the monster. "Long time since I saw one of you guys, I believe."
"I equip BlooDark Curse Claymore to Zelsa!" A dark aura surrounded the Dark Synchro's claymore weapon, with black runes appearing all over the blade for a moment before fading away.
BlooDark Curse Claymore (Spell) Equip
You can only equip this card with a Dark Synchro Monster with 2500 or more ATK. If the equipped monster destroys an opponent monster by battle, you can inflict damage to both players equal to half the destroyed monster's original ATK, and if you do, the equipped monster gains that amount of ATK while equipped to this card.
"Battle!" She screamed at the top of her lungs and threw both of her arms forward. "Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger attack Astral AngelWild Löwe! Dark Blood Slash!"
The Dark Synchro Monster charged at my Xyz Monster and swung her sword, unleashing a wave of black and red energy that collided with Astral AngelWild Löwe, which howled in pain as the attack carved its way through its body.
"Not so fast! I activate my Continuous Trap – Astral Angel Variable! Once per turn, I can release one Astral Angel monster I control to Special Summon an Astral Angel monster with less attack points from my Graveyard! So bye-bye Wild Löwe and welcome back Astral Angel Accipit (Lv. 2, DEF: 400)!" The monk appeared on my field once more, but this time kneeling and holding its staff in front of its entire body.
Astral Angel Variable (Trap) Continuous
Pendulum Scale: 3
Pendulum Effect: Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase, if you control no monsters: You can Pendulum Summon Pendulum Monsters from your Extra Deck, and if you do, shuffle all monsters Pendulum Summoned that way into your Deck during the End Phase.
Main Effect: Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 LIGHT Monster you control to target 1 "Astral Angel" monster in your Graveyard whose ATK is less than the Tributed monster's ATK; Special Summon that target. Once per turn, during your turn: You can place this card in your Pendulum Zone.
"And now I activate Accipit's effect! When it's Summoned, I can revive one Level Four or lower Astral Angel from my Graveyard! Come back, Astral Angel Harmonograph Fünf (Lv. 1, DEF: 200)!" The white Harmonograph appeared on my field next to my other monster, forming a small wall.
"You managed to protect yourself from most damage, but I'm still going to attack you!" Zenith shouted. "Zelsa, destroy Astral Angel Accipit!" The girl's ace monster sliced through my monk, destroying it, but thankfully without inflicting any damage to my Life Points.
"And now, I activate the effect of BlooDark Curse Claymore!" the black runes reappeared on her monster's blade as she spoke. "We both take half of the destroyed monster's attack points as damage!"
A black aura surrounded both of us, and I winched in pain, while Zenith didn't seem to be too bothered by her own effect's damage.
『Zenith LP: 2200 - 400 → 1800』
『Avice LP: 4000 - 400 → 3600』
"After we took this damage, Curse Claymore shall increase Zelsa's attack power by the same amount that I have suffered as damage!" The black runes flashed red for a moment before merging back with the sword that the monster was holding.
Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger, ATK: 2600 + 400 → 3000
"With that, I set one card and end my turn." Finally, that turn felt like forever because of her backstory.
"It's back to me then! I draw!" I exclaimed.
『Turn 3 [Avice] LP: 3600, Hand: 2』
"First things first, I banish Star Duplicate from my Graveyard to add one Level Four or lower Astral Angel monster from my Deck to the hand!" Astral Angel Einplus popped out of my Deck and I grabbed it.
"At this moment, I activate the effect of Decapitated!" Zenith exclaimed, as the ghostly head appeared in front of me and projected the cards in my hand for her to see. "Since you just added a card from your Deck to the hand, I get to pick one card from your hand and return it to the top of your Deck!"
Damn it! The cards in my hand, aside from Einplus were Astral Angel Der Erste and Dimension Wiederherstellung. If she picked any of the cards aside from Einplus, I wouldn't be able to recover them.
"Hmm, I think I'll go with Astral Angel Der Erste!" She pointed at the Continuous Spell and I returned it on the top of my Deck. That was the worst pick she couldn't have gone with.
"I Normal Summon Astral Angel Einplus (Lv. 1, ATK: 100)!" The triangle appeared next to the Harmonograph. "And now, I tune the Level One Astral Angel Harmonograph Fünf to The Level One Einplus!" One ring, one orb, one small bolt of light as my new monster appeared.
"The unbreakable circle of life! Activate the builder of miracles! Synchro Summon! Level Two! Astral Angel Traumdirigent!"
A tiny white drone-like monster appeared out of the light and floated in front of me. A small blue visor covered its front, while the top of its body was open showing a small blue orb that was powering the little guy's entire body. A pair of plugs were attached to its sides acting as arms. The one on his right side was colored red, while the one on the left was colored blue.
Astral Angel Traumdirigent
Level: 2/Attribute: LIGHT WATER/Type: Machine/Synchro/Effect
ATK: 0/DEF: 1000
1 Tuner + 1 Non-Tuner monster
Effect: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls and 1 LIGHT Monster you control, except for this card; that first target loses 1000 ATK, and if it does, the second target gains 1000 ATK. If this card is used as Synchro Material for the Synchro Summon of a LIGHT Monster: Draw 1 card.
"I activateAstral Angel Einplus' effect from my Graveyard! By increasing Traumdirigent's Level by one, I can Special Summon Einplus from my Graveyard, but it's banished when it leaves the field!" The little triangle emerged next to Traumdirigent, which had three stars that appeared over its body.
Astral Angel Traumdirigent, Lv. 2 + 1 → 3
"Also, when Einplus is Special Summoned, I get to add one Astral Angel monster from my Deck to the hand! I choose Astral Angel Golden Ring (Lv. 4, ATK: 1700), who can be Special Summoned to my field if I control a LIGHT Monster."
The glowing green cube with golden wings accessories formed on my field next to my other monsters.
"Since you brought out your ace, it would be only fair to bright out one of mine, don't you think?" I raised my hand forward, commanding my monsters. "I tune the Level Three Astral Angel Traumdirigent and the Level Four Astral Angel Golden Ring to the Level One Astral Angel Einplus!"
The core inside my triangle glowed and its metal body dispersed as the core transformed into a ring that my other two monsters flew through, their cores glowing similarly, stripping away their mortal bodies to turn into seven stars that lined perfectly.
"The supreme angel with the burning soul of a star. Spread your beautiful wings of destruction and erase our enemies with your blazing light! Synchro Summon! Level Eight! Sola Electra the Synchro Seraph (Lv.8, ATK: 3000)!"
"What a suitable form to face our enemy with!" Sola exclaimed as she flew next to me.
"When Traumdirigent is used as Synchro Material, I get to draw a card!" It… wasn't what I was hoping for, but it would work too. "I activate Sola Electra's effect! Once per turn, I can halve the attack points of one of your monsters, then Sola gains that lost attack! Photon Link Conversion!"
My monster's wings spread to the side and then fired several needles made of white energy that pierced through Zelsa's body, but unlike other monsters that Sola's effect has been used on, she remained standing unfazed by the needles piercing her shoulders and stomach.
Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger, ATK: 3000/2 → 1500
Sola Electra the Synchro Seraph, ATK: 3000 + 1500 → 4500
"I guess the Dark Synchro's just as much of an edgelord as its user," I muttered under my nose. "Let's see how unfazed you will be after the second part of Sola's effect kicks in! You take damage equal to your monster's lost attack!"
My monster returned her hands back to her sides and fired a series of energy needles at Zenith, piercing her thighs, arms, and chest before exploding, sending the girl flying back and hitting a large rock before falling face-first on the ground.
『Zenith LP: 1800 – 1500 → 300』
A few moments passed before the girl pressed her hands firmly against the ground, supporting herself as she got back up. Blood was dripping from the wounds left by Sola's attack, but despite that, she was still able to stand back up. Her eyes looked up at me, and I could see a spark of life in them as she smirked in spite of her wounds.
"You know what? This! This right here is the only reason I will never have a crush on a Yu-Gi-Oh girl in my entire life! Because you all are nuts in the head!" I snapped at her. "From Aki's psycho episodes, through Serena's moronic stubbornness, to your 'hit me harder daddy'! It's like being a girl that's good at dueling and not have some sort of mental defect or unbearable personality trait is impossible with you people!"
"Please, I don't think that my playstyle is that different from the Psychic decks." She shrugged. "But thanks to your effect, Zelsa's effect is now applied! While my Life Points are below a thousand, all damage I take is negated!"
"Yeah, no," I replied. "I banish Accipit from my Graveyard to activate its effect! Your monster's effects are negated until the end of the turn!"
The ghostly form of my monk monster appeared over Zelsa and cast a spell upon her, covering her in a white mist that, unlike the needles from Sola, was able to drop her on one knee.
"Now let's battle!" I shouted. "Sola Electra the Synchro Seraph, cook this freak and her monster with Photon Particle Stream!"
My monster threw her arms to the sides and all the bolts attached to her gauntlets flew off, creating a circle in front of her that then charged itself and formed a barrier of solid light. Sola charged her arm beams and fired them together through the barrier, which increased the size of the attack by ten times, enveloping both Crimson Zelsa and Zenith, who screamed as her body was sent skidding back again.
『Zenith LP: 300 → 100』
Finally, I don't have to deal with this-! Wait, what!?
"S-surprised?" Zenith muttered weakly as she lied on the ground, with a trap card glowing over her body. I looked closer, and my eyes widened.
BlooDark Curse of Blood (Trap) Normal
If a Dark Synchro Monster you control battles an opponent monster whose ATK is higher than that of your battling Dark Synchro Monster with 1000 or more, your Dark Synchro Monster cannot be destroyed by that battle. If you control a "Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger" monster, any battle you take this turn that would reduce your LP to 0 instead sets it to 100.
"In hindsight, I should have probably expected something like that," I sighed, taking the two cards in my hand and placing them inside my Duel Disk, which projected them face-down on my field. "You know, despite how freaky you are to me, maybe you should try dating my brother. You seem to be a perfect match."
"Make your little jokes, see how much I care," She muttered as she got back up once more, this time her clothes had burn marks on them, with her sleeves having been torn, and new wounds having been opened on her arms from Sola's attack.
"No jokes." I put my hands on my hips. "You're seriously messed up. For real. Like, I understand forcing yourself to fight on despite how badly it hurts you, but in my case, I do it because if I lose, I'm going to die. What about you? What are you going to lose if you just drop down?"
"It's a matter of principle."
"Aha, sure."
"Either way, at the end of your turn, Zelsa's effect are restored." The Dark Synchro monster rose back on her feet. "It's my turn, I draw!"
『Turn 4 [Zenith] LP: 100, Hand: 2』
"I activate a Continuous Spell! BlooDark Style – Dark Sacrifice! With this card's effect, any damage that either of us takes will be doubled!" Oh, what a surprise, more cards to inflict damage to herself.
BlooDark Style – Dark Sacrifice (Spell) Continuous
All damage inflicted to either player is doubled. If a "BlooDark" monster you control would be destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect, you can send this card to your Graveyard instead.
"And now I activate Crimson Zelsa's effect! By returning BlooDark Curse Claymore back into my deck, I can equip a new BlooDark Curse to her directly from my Deck! I choose BlooDark Curse CrimSaw!"
The dark runes on Zelsa's sword changed shape, rearranging themselves into a new order, with new symbols appearing as well, after which they faded into the sword, showing that the card was properly activated.
BlooDark Curse CrimSaw (Spell) Equip
If the monster equipped with this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent: Gain LP equal to the damage inflicted to your opponent. If this monster battled: At the end of the damage step, you can destroy as many monsters your opponent controls whose ATK is higher than this card's attack as possible, and if you do, inflict 600 damage to your opponent for each.
"And because Claymore is no longer equipped to my Crimson Zelsa, the attack gain that she gained while wielding it will disappear as well," Zenith told me.
Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger, ATK: 1500 – 400 → 1100
"Battle Phase! Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger will attack your Sola Electra the Synchro Seraph!" Her Dark Synchro Monster leaped into the air and raised its claymore over its head, ready to deliver a devastating blow to my monster.
"I won't let you! I activate Interdimensional Matter Transporter to remove Sola Electra from play until the End Phase!" Even though I was going to lose more Life Points this way, Sola wouldn't be destroyed, which was the more important thing!
A dimensional portal appeared behind Sola Electra and she glanced back at me for a moment, nodding, before flying through it. The portal closed behind her, leaving Zelsa to redirect her attack toward me instead. I crossed my arms in front of my body as she swung her claymore, releasing a powerful wave of black and red energy, which sliced through my body. I bit my tongue to hold in a scream as blood spurted out of my hip from the attack.
『Avice LP: 3600 – 1100*2 → 1400』
"Let's see how you like it! When my Life Points fall below a thousand Zelsa's fighting becomes deadly aggressive!" Zenith smirked and a pale green aura surrounded her body. "Oh also, Crimsaw's effect activates too, increasing my Life Points by the damage you just took!"
『Zenith LP: 100 + 2200 → 2300』
"I'll now set a card and end my turn." Zenith finished. "At that moment, the effect of Interdimensional Matter Transporter ends, right?"
I glared silently at her as a beam of light shot out of the ground in front of me and Sola Electra the Synchro Seraph flew through it, spreading out her wings and raised her fists in front of herself, ready to continue fighting.
『Turn 5 [Avice] LP: 1400, Hand: 1』
"At this moment I activate the effect of Crimson Zelsa! I return BlooDark Curse CrimSaw to my deck and equip BlooDark Curse Blood Cloak!" The dark runes on Crimson Zelsa's sword moved to her body and glowed red as they changed once more before fading.
BlooDark Curse Blood Cloak (Spell) Equip
A "BlooDark" monster equipped with this card cannot be targeted by your opponent's cards and effects. Once per turn: You can reduce the equipped monster's ATK by 200 to inflict 200 damage to your opponent. If this face-up card you control is destroyed: Inflict 600 damage to both players.
"Due to Blood Cloak's effect, the monster it's equipped to cannot be targeted by your cards and effects!" Zenith explained. "In other words, you can't use Sola Electra's effect to win this duel!"
'I don't want to say it, but she is right!' I thought as I analyzed our fields. 'Since Zenith's Life Points have risen well above one thousand, I was planning to halve her monster's attack points once more and then attack with Sola Electra to inflict three thousand points of damage at once, but now that strategy wouldn't work! However…'
"I activate Cards of Purgatory! By destroy one Spell Card on the field, I get to draw a card, and then if the card I drew was a Spell, I get to draw another one!" Of course, there was only one target that my card could target, and it was the one I needed to get rid of. "I choose to destroy BlooDark Curse Blood Cloak!"
"WHAT!?" Zenith's eyes shot wide open, and her Dark Synchro Monster looked down as the black runes covering her armor all vanished.
"And I drew the Spell Card Dimension Geschenk, which means that I get to draw one more card!" With two cards in my hand, and Zelsa targetable once more, I could use Sola Electra's effect to win this duel!
"Fool!" Zenith shouted at me. "When Blood Cloak is destroyed, we both take six hundred points of damage! And because of BlooDark Style – Dark Sacrifice the damage is doubled for both of us!"
A black aura surrounded both of us, and I gritted my teeth, feeling the pain from the wound inflicted by Zelsa multiplying.
『Zenith LP: 2300 – 600*2 → 1100』
『Avice LP: 1400 – 600*2 → 200』
"And now, I activate a Continuous Trap – BlooDark Curse Origin!" A card showing Crimson Zelsa leaning against her sword, while covered in wounds, with the bodies of defeated soldiers and monsters lying all around her, showed up on Zenith's field. "This card lets me take one BlooDark Curse resting in my Graveyard and equip it to a monster on my field at the cost of taking five hundred points of damage! Doubled, thanks to Dark Sacrifice!"
BlooDark Curse Origin (Trap) Continuous
You can activate this card by targeting 1 "BlooDark Curse" Equip Spell in your Graveyard; equip that target to a proper target on your side of the field, and if you do, take 500 points of damage for each "BlooDark Curse" Equip Spell you currently control. Once per turn: If a card or effect is activated that would remove a "BlooDark" Monster you control from the field, you can negate that effect, and if you do, take 1000 points of damage.
The same black aura surrounded Zenith once more, causing more blood to spurt out of her wounds as her Crimson Zelsa regained the black runes that were covering her armor. Just when I thought that I had outsmarted her, she went and reduced her Life Points to below a thousand again!
『Zenith LP: 1100 – 500*2 → 100』
"I… I don't think that I have a card that could deal with her monster in my deck now!" I gritted my teeth. It couldn't be destroyed by battle, is protecting from targeting, negates all damage, and is protected from effect removal too! "S-should I just give up, Sola?"
"Do you want to give up?" She looked back at me.
"It's starting to get bloody, ancient one!" Zenith shouted at us from across the field. "You cannot defeat me, the limit of your powers is here."
"The limit of my body, yes." Sola narrowed her eyes. "But Sola Electra wasn't the me who has been accompanying this girl from the start. I ask again, Avice. Do you want to give up?"
"I really want to beat her face in," I admitted.
"Then, if you want to give me the power to do so…" Yeah, I understood what I had to do.
"I activate the effect of Astral Angel Variable! By releasing Sola Electra the Synchro Seraph, I Special Summon Astral Angel Golden Ring (Lv. 4, ATK: 1700) from my Graveyard" Sola Electra turned into a white mist that faded away as the small golden ring appeared on my field.
"You gave up on your Synchro for this garbage?" Zenith asked.
"If you want to win, you must be willing to sacrifice! Isn't this the philosophy that your entire deck revolves around?" I asked back, not expecting an answer as I grabbed one of my Spell Cards and activated it. "I play Dimension Geschenk! By banishing Golden Ring from my field, I can Special Summon any number of Normal Monsters on my field, as long as their total Level equals four! I Special Summon two Astral Angel Wenig (Lv.2, DEF: 1500)!"
Two copies of a tiny black monster with two large orange eyes on the front of its body and a white half-ring levitating around it, formed on my field, but they weren't going to stay there for long, as I activated my second Spell Card.
"I activate Nildimensional Summon! This card's effect allows me to Tribute Summon one monster from my Deck! I release one of my Astral Angel Wenig to Tribute Summon Sola Starlit the Pendulum Seraph (Lv.6, ATK: 2500) directly from my deck!" A blue portal in the shape of a triangle appeared on my field, and my ace flew through it, landing on my field with a wink.
"It was about time!" She exclaimed, then turned back to me. "Are you ready to win this duel, Avice?"
"Let's do this!" I shouted, my Extra Deck starting to glow as I gave my command. "Using my Sola Starlit the Pendulum Seraphand the remaining Astral Angel Wenig, I'm going to perform a Contact Fusion!"
"What!?" Zenith gasped as Sola Starlit grabbed the little robot and its body started to glow as it infused with Sola, whose armor started to change.
"The queen of angels that holds the tradition of destruction! Accept this sacrifice of pure light and pierce the dark that holds us, prisoners! Contact Fusion! Level Nine! Sola Ravager the Fusion Seraph!"
A golden pendulum formed around Sola and then shattered and her new form appeared from inside. Her eyes were golden with white stars inside of them while her long white hair floated behind her as if the laws of gravity didn't apply to it; who knows, maybe they didn't. Her primary outfit was still a white one-piece suit that covered her body. The sides of her thighs were covered in black semi-transparent fabric that extended downward, forming a semi-transparent black skirt covered in small white star-like ornaments, cover the bodysuit. The same black fabric covered Sola's shoulders and upper arms, merging into a pair of slim silver gauntlets.
Rotating around the monster were four large white swords, each of which depicted the dark silhouette of an angelical figure reaching with both arms toward the sky; toward the heaven had forsaken it, while two smaller figures resembling guards stood on either side of the angelical figure with their weapons drawn and pointed at it.
Sola Ravager the Fusion Seraph
Level: 9/Attribute: LIGHT/Type: Fairy/Fusion/Pendulum/Effect
Pendulum Scale: 1
ATK: 3100/DEF: 2000
Pendulum Effect: Once per turn: If a LIGHT Fiend-Type monster you control battles an opponent's monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck; halve your opponent monster's ATK until the end of the Damage Step.
"Sola Starlit the Pendulum Seraph" + 1 LIGHT Monster
You can also Special Summon this card (from your Extra Deck) by banishing the above cards you control (You do not use "Polymerization". And this Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon). If this card is Fusion Summoned: Shuffle into the Deck all monsters your opponent controls with 3100 or less ATK. Once per turn, during either player's turn, If an opponent's card or effect is activated: You can banish 1 card from the opponent's Graveyard; this card gains 1000 ATK until the end of this turn, and the activated effects of all cards with the same type (Spell/Trap/Monster) as the banished card are negated, also they cannot be activated until the end of this turn. If this card in your Monster Zone is destroyed: You can banish 1 card from your Pendulum Zone, and if you do, place this card in your Pendulum Zone.
"So when I pushed you into a corner, Sola was able to reawaken another part of her natural powers?" Zenith narrowed her eyes.
I smiled as I looked at my new Sola. Something about her was just making me feel warm on the inside, and the pain from my wound had also started to fade. I looked down at my hands and noticed strange symbols starting to glow on them, as my skin turned paler, and my hoodie grew longer, almost like a cloak. All of this felt so… normal…
"I activate Sola Ravager's effect!" I cried out. "When she's Fusion Summoned, all monsters you control with thirty-one hundred or less attack powers are returned to the deck! Seraph's Word!" Sola's golden eyes turned completely white as divine power filled her body and she threw her arm forward, unleashing a powerful and dominating aura that could force anyone and anything to obey.
"It won't happen!" Zenith shouted back. "I use BlooDark Curse Origin's effect to negate my monster's removal at the cost of taking a thousand points of damage!"
"That's what I was expecting!" I grinned in response. "Once per turn, Sola Ravager can banish one card from your Graveyard to increase her attack points by a thousand, and also negate the effects of all cards that are the same type! And I choose BlooDark Curse of Blood! Reality Order Editor!"
In the end, the trap card that Zenith had used during the last turn to keep herself from losing the duel was the one that caused her loss, as Crimson Zelsa the BlooDark Avenger was forced to fall through a portal and disappear, it left Zenith unprotected, at the mercy of my monster.
Sola Ravager the Fusion Seraph, ATK: 3100 + 1000 → 4100
"This time you're losing for serious! Sola Ravager the Fusion Seraph! Attack them directly! Divine Javelin!" Sola raised her arms and the four swords around her all flew in front of her, their blades connecting to one another and they then launched themselves forward at once, like a missile.
"W-What kind of monster are you!" Zenith cried out as the attack made contact with her body and a large explosion engulfed her side of the field.

『Winner: Avice』
Evan's POV
"How lucky, it seems that you're going to be my opponent for today." The guy that was screaming about the wall early bowed before me.
"I wouldn't exactly say that you're lucky to face off against me," I replied, crossing my arms. "But I'm sure that you will figure that out on your own in due time."
"Should we introduce ourselves before we start then?" The guy asked. "Actually, only I'll have to introduce myself, Mr. Greyson. My name is Tikhon Yakovich, but everyone that I know just calls me Lucky."
"Wait, Yakovich?" My eyes shot wide open at the mention of this name. "Ты русский?"
"How many languages can you speak?" Lucky raised an eyebrow. "I thought you were German or something."
"Nope, I'm Russian!" Evan pointed at his chest proudly. "If it's because of Avice's deck, I… don't really know why her cards' names are in German. Maybe it's just a phase."
"I… I just don't know what to say on that." Lucky sighed. "Whatever. Let's just get this over with!"
"I was just about to say the same thing!" I replied, activating my Duel Disk.
"DUEL!"
『Lucky LP: 4000 Hand: 5 (VS) Evan LP: 4000 Hand: 5』
"I'll take the first turn!" Lucky exclaimed, taking four cards from his hand. "I Normal Summon Star Tuner and set three cards. That's it for my turn!" A single glowing star appeared on my opponent's side of the field.
Star Tuner
Level: 1/Attribute: LIGHT/Type: Thunder/Tuner/Effect
ATK: 0/DEF: 0
Effect: During your Standby Phase: If you control this face-up card, you can Special Summon up to 2 "Star Tuner" from your Deck, and if you do, they aren't treated as Tuner monsters. Once per turn: You can roll six-sided dice, and if you do, this card's Level becomes the same as the result until the end of this turn.
"A single monster with no attack points and three set cards?" Nightshroud's spirit spoke to me. "I would say that he's trying to bait you into a trap, but there's no way he would know who you are and expect of you to fall for something as obvious as that."
"Whatever it is, I can't just turn down an invitation like that, can I?" I wouldn't know what he had planned if I didn't attack, right? "It's my turn then. I draw!"
『Turn 2 [Evan] LP: 4000, Hand: 6』
"I, use the Scale seven, ChronoDevil Timescale Champion, and the Scale five, ChronoDevil Timefrozer Ghost, to set the Pendulum Scale!" Two red pendulum columns formed behind me, and a red pendulum swung over my head. "And now for Timescale Champion's effect! If a different ChronoDevil Monster has been set in the Pendulum Scale, I can draw a card!"
I looked at the card that I drew; it was just what I was waiting for!
"With the set Pendulum Scale, I can Pendulum Summon Level Six monsters! From my hand, Supreme Devil King, Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer (Lv. 6, ATK: 2500)!" A single spiral of black energy fell from the sky and my ace emerged out of it. "Timefrozer Ghost's Pendulum Effect now applies, increasing the attack power of all my monsters by five hundred!"
Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer, ATK: 2500 + 500 → 3000
"Three thousand attack points right off the start," Lucky rubbed the back of his head nervously. "You aren't playing around."
"Battle!" Evan exclaimed, throwing his fist forward. "Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer destroy his monster! Double Void Slash!"
At my word, the wheels on the sides of Phantomus' boots extended and the jetpack on his back activated, launching him forward as his arm-blades extended from the metal gauntlets and he swung them at the defenseless monster.
"But will that attack hit?" Lucky asked. "I activate my trap card! Dimension-shifting Bridge! By this card's effect, you must toss a coin, and depending on the outcome one of two effects will apply!"
Dimension-shifting Bridge (Trap) Normal
During your opponent's Battle Phase, you can activate this card. Your opponent must toss a coin, then apply the appropriate effect.
Head: Level 6 and lower monsters cannot attack for the rest of this turn.
Tail: Level 7 and higher monsters cannot attack for the rest of this turn.
"N-no way!" T-that couldn't be real! I'm facing against a luck-based deck that's made to test my luck! Gritting my teeth I felt a chill run down my spine at the mere sight of this card.
"You suddenly seem terrified," Nightshroud noticed. "What is it, you just have to toss tails and your attack will continue!"
"You must realize it now." My opponent said. "The reason I'm called Lucky is that I'm, well, lucky. No matter the situation, my luck always prevails. This is also why I said that I'm lucky to face you."
"Because of my bad luck," That was the reason why I didn't have any luck-based cards in my deck, and why I avoid using Action Cards. Well, that and also because both of those things are stupid with a very little pay-off in the long run.
"So, you're unlucky?" Nightshroud said. "I guess it does make sense, since you can be around the True Darkness without showing any negative reactions, and you were also able to absorb my soul and remain sane. I guess you're just a magnet for negative energies; including bad luck."
"Well, will you toss your coin?" Lucky asked.
"Like I have a choice," I muttered, raising my hand forward, as a holographic coin appeared in front of me. "Give me tails!"
The coin flew up and landed on the ground, in the middle of the field. As it did, the result was lighted up for both of us to see: Head.
"Too bad! Level six and lower monsters can't declare an attack this turn!" Lucky smirked as a barrier formed in front of his monster and Chrono Phantomus' blades slammed into it instead, bouncing off the barrier.
"I set two cards, and end my turn!" Phantomus flew back to my side as two face-down cards appeared behind him.
"Then it's my turn!" Lucky exclaimed. "I draw!"
『Turn 3 [Lucky] LP: 4000, Hand: 2』
"I activate the effect of Star Tuner!" his monster flashed brightly, as two more copies of it appeared on my opponent's field. "I Special Summon two Star Tuners treating them as non-tuner monsters. Then, I use Star Tuner's second effect to toss a six-sided dice!"
A black dice appeared next to Lucky and he threw his hand forward, commanding it. The dots on the dice glower and it rolled on the field, landing on a 6.
Star Tuner, Lv. 1 → 6
"Now, I tune the two Level One Star Tuner to the Level Six Star Tuner!" The Level 6 copy of Lucky's monster transformed into six rings that flew around his remaining two copies, turning them into two white orbs. "Synchro Summon! The legendary beast embodying luck! Light of Fortune – Aries!"
A large mechanical white ram appeared out of the light. Its entire body was covered in heavy armor, including its legs, which had small openings through which one could see the black mechanical joins that were moving the beast. A pair of golden horns rested on the monster's head, curled up. Its eyes were made of green crystals, which seemed to reflect the light.
Light of Fortune – Aries
Level: 8/Attribute: LIGHT/Type: Beast/Synchro/Effect
ATK: 2800/DEF: 1400
1 Tuner + 1+ Non-Tuner monsters
Effect: This card cannot be targeted by the effects of Level 5 or lower monsters. Once per turn, if an effect involving a dice roll was activated; after that effect resolves, you can toss a six-sided dice, and if you do, destroy 1 card your opponent controls in the column whose number you rolled. Destroy 1 random card in your opponent's hand if you rolled 6. Once per turn, if an effect involving a coin flip was activated; after that effect resolves, you can flip a coin and apply 1 of the effects depending on the result.
Head: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to half this card's ATK.
Tail: Gain LP equal to half this card's ATK.
"I activate Graceful Dice! By throwing dice, I can increase the attack power of one monster I control by the result times a hundred!" A little fairy guy wearing a pink outfit appeared on the field holding a blue dice that was the same size as it. He threw the dice and… another 6.
Light of Fortune – Aries, ATK: 2800 + 600 → 3400
"And now for Aries's effect!" the monster's black eyes turned blue and it projected a rolling dice in the center of the field. "Since I rolled a dice, I get to roll another one, and depending on the result, I get to destroy a card in the specified column!"
Five numbers appeared on my side of the field to show which column was which number. The one at the most left of me was 1 and the one at the most right was 5, with Phantomus being in 3. If he destroyed him, then he would be able to get a direct attack with a 3400 ATK monster.
And then, the dice rolled on 6.
"Since it's a six, that means that I get to destroy a random card in your hand instead." Lucky sighed. "I guess I'll go with the left one."
I tried not to show it, but losing the card from my hand was hurting a lot more than losing Phantomus. Of course, the holographic screen still had to show Lucky that the card he just blew out of my hand was Kurigear, who could stop my opponent from declaring any attacks for three turns if he had attacked me directly.
"Oh my!" Lucky mocked a gasp. "If I haven't gotten rid of that little guy I would have lost three Battle Phases. How lucky, am I right? I'll now activate another trap card! Game Nullified! Like last time, you get to toss a coin, and if the result is Head, the effect of all cards I control will be negated until the end of this turn. If the result is tails, your cards will lose their effects for this turn!"
Game Nullified (Trap) Normal
Your opponent must toss a coin, then you get to apply the appropriate effect.
Head: All cards you control have their effects negated until the end of this turn.
Tail: All cards your opponent control have their effects negated until the end of this turn.
"Let me guess, I'll get a tail?" I gave the coin the order to flip and… Yep, I got a tail. Meaning that Timefrozer Ghost's effect was negated, reducing Phantomus' attack.
Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer, ATK: 3000 - 500 → 2500
"And now for Aries' second effect! I get to toss a coin as well!" The Synchro's eyes turned yellow and projected a coin, which showed Heads. "How unlucky for you! If the result is Head, you take damage equal to half of Aries' attack points!"
The Synchro monster raised its head and fired a beam of yellow energy from its eyes that hit me right in the chest, knocking me back.
『Evan LP: 4000 - 1700 → 2300』
"Now battle! Light of Fortune – Aries destroy Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer!" Like a real ram, Lucky's monster charged my Phantomus and slammed head-first into him, sending my monster flying back as a red laser beam projected from Aries's eyes pierced through its chest, destroying it.
『Evan LP: 2300 - 900 → 1400』
"You lost more than half of your Life Points in a single turn!" I heard Nightshroud starting to panic inside my soul.
"I set a card, and at the end of this turn, Aries' attack points return to normal!" The monster lowered its head as its attack power dropped back to 2800. "Your move."
"The more luck-based cards you allow him to activate, the worse your situation would become," Nightshroud told me. "Not only do you have bad luck, but combined with your opponent's high luck, you're basically boosting his chances to get the best possible result by just being his opponent! Try to end this duel as fast as possible!"
"Thanks for the advice, I wouldn't have figured that out without you," I mumbled before drawing my next card.
『Turn 4 [Evan] LP: 1400, Hand: 2』
"ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Kitty and ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Raven." None of the monsters that I had in my hand were particularly good. In fact, I would be better off not playing those, since Kitty's best effect happens if she gets Special Summoned by her own effect.
ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Raven
Level: 5/Attribute: DARK/Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect/Pendulum
P.S: 2
ATK: 1400/DEF: 2100
Pendulum Effect: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls: That target loses ATK equal to its DEF until the end of this turn, and if it does, destroy this card. You can only use the Pendulum Effect of "ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Raven" once per turn.
Effect: Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 other face-up card on the field; return both this card and that target to the hand. Once per turn, during either player's turn: If your opponent activates a card or effect that would destroy a Pendulum Monster you control: You can reduce this card's ATK by 700 to negate that monster's destruction.
"Using the already set Pendulum Scales, I Pendulum Summon Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer (Lv. 6, ATK: 2500) from my Extra Deck!" At least, I could still use my ace and its abilities. "Phantomus' effect reduces the attack and defense points of all monsters you control by five hundred points, while Timefrozer Ghost's effect increases Phantomus' attack points by five hundred!"
Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer, ATK: 2500 + 500 → 3000
Light of Fortune – Aries, ATK: 2800 - 500 → 2300, DEF: 1400 – 500 → 900
"Battle! Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer attacks Light of Fortune – Aries!" My monster extended its arm blades and jumped at the Synchro once more.
"Trap activates! Skull Dice!" A tiny witch holding a red dice that was equal to her in size appeared on Lucky's field. "You know what this card does, right? I roll a dice, and your monster loses attack points equal to the result!"
"Even if he rolls a six, Phantomus will still have more attack points than his monster," Nightshroud commented. "So in order to defeat you, he must use Aries' ability and roll a three."
"And Skull Dice's result is…" The witch threw Lucky's dice, which rolled between our two monsters, finally landing on a… "Two? It's an ok result, I guess."
Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer, ATK: 3000 - 200 → 2800
Though Phantomus was still stronger than the opponent's monster with 500 points. Aries's effect was going to be next and I had the gut feeling that the dice roll there was going to be better; most likely better by one.
"And now for Aries's effect!" the monster's black eyes turned blue again and it projected a rolling dice in the center of the field. "Since I rolled a dice, I get to roll another one, and depending on the result, I get to destroy a card in the specified column!"
Five numbers appeared on my side of the field to show with Phantomus being in 3 once again since I had summoned it in the center of my field. Aries's holographic dice started rolling as I awaited that damned number to show up.
"And… It's a three!" Lucky grinned as his monster fired a red beam from its eyes that pierced through my monster, which exploding instantly. "Bye-bye Phantomus! It must hurt being so unlucky!"
"Actually, the unlucky right now is you," I replied.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I mean that by destroying my Phantomus, you gave me a chance to end this duel right now!" I exclaimed. "I activate the effect of ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Kitty (Lv. 2, ATK: 700 + 500 →1200)! When a card on my field is destroyed, I can Special Summon her, and if I do, I get to search my deck for a Timeline card!"
A black portal framed by a clock gear appeared on my field and a Neko girl with long black hair and golden eyes ran through it, holding a strange orb in her hands. She stopped in front of me and winked before throwing the orb at my Duel Disk, which absorbed it.
"The card I choose to add is Timeline Overlap!" My deck glowed, a single card popping out of it, and I took it, showing the Spell Card to my opponent.
"Because of the effect of the cards in your Pendulum Zone, your monster's attack points are going to get a huge boost." Lucky bit his lower lip. "So you had a backup plan to destroy my Synchro Monster then?"
"Not just your Synchro Monster!" I exclaimed, activating one of my set cards. "I activate the Trap Card, Pendulum Reborn to revive one Pendulum Monster from my Graveyard or Extra Deck! Serve me once more. Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer (Lv. 6, ATK: 2500 + 500 →3000)!"
"He's back too!? Weren't you supposed to have bad luck?!" Lucky shouted.
"That's not luck," I replied. "It's black magic! And now, I activate Timeline Over-!" Just as I was about to activate my Spell, an image flashed in front of my eyes. It was an image of Phantomus wearing a white cloak with a pair of large metal wings on his back.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Nightshroud called out. "What did you space out for?"
"I…" I shook my head. I've seen a lot of unnatural things happen, I knew not to ignore it, especially since it was about Phantomus.
All the ChronoDevils live within my soul, which is why their spirits are always there to speak with me, but Phantomus didn't have the power to speak. He was a mute Duel Spirit, so he couldn't communicate with me the same way as the rest of his kind.
"I activate my Trap! Urgent Tuning!" If that was what Phantomus wanted, I was going to trust him.
"Wait, what?!" Kitty turned around to look at me, shocked. But before she could protest, Phantomus quickly grabbed her by the waist and threw her into the sky before jumping after her.
"I tune the Level Six Chrono Phantomus the Pendulum Slayer to the Level Two ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Kitty!" Against her own will, Kitty turned into two rings that my ace flew through, turning into six stars that lined up perfectly.
"The bright burning demon king, builder of civilizations! Spread your majestic wings of metal and shred the clouds blocking our light! Level Eight! Supreme Demon King - Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer!"
A light green pendulum crashed on the ground before me. A glowing red eye appeared within the pendulum and it started to crack until it all broke at once, forming a new Phantomus. The new monster had short black hair which was swiped toward the right side of his face, covering his right eye. A pair of small white horns was sticking from the sides of his head, while a strange dark-red halo floated over his head.
He was wearing a long white cloak with red belts attached to the waist area and sleeves, and large black fur covering the shoulders and upper back. Underneath the cloak, he was wearing a red sleeveless shirt with a large golden reactor-like device in the center of its chest that was connected to four golden tubes. A golden belt that resembled a cloak gear wrapped around his waist held his black pants with metal plants covering his knees and thighs. On his back, the new Phantomus had a pair of large metal wings, each of which had a large green snake-like eye in the center, with four long scythe-like blades that were attached to the strange orb.
The new Phantomus crossed his arms and glared silently at our enemy, as my body started to glow. A sudden headache hit me as the Nightshroud mask appeared on my chest, attached to a white cowl that covered my body, like a cloak. Ok… that was something new…
Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer
Level: 8/Attribute: Dark/Type: Fiend/Synchro/Pendulum/Effect
P.S: 0
ATK: 2800 DEF: 2000
1 DARK Tuner monster + 1 or more non-Tuner Pendulum monsters
Pendulum Effect: Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can activate the effect of 1 Spell Card that was activated this turn as this card's effect.
Effect: Once per turn: You can swap the effects of two face-up monsters on the field. This effect can only be activated by 1 monster per turn. Once per turn: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower Pendulum Monster from your Deck. If this Synchro Summoned card is removed from the field by a card effect, including being Tributed, you can Special Summon 1 monster from your Pendulum Zone (if any), also place this card in your Pendulum Zone.
"W-What is this?" Lucky muttered. "You got a new ace?!"
"Pretty cool that I don't need to put my soul on the line to get those, huh?" I smirked, looking over my new monster. I could feel a new power surging within me with this monster's appearance as if a locked door suddenly opened deep within my heart. "Timefrozer Ghost's effect now increases Phantomus' attack points by five hundred!"
Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer, ATK: 2800 + 500 → 3300
"Now, destroy his monster! Celestial Void Slash!" The metal wings on Vigorous Phantomus' back started to move around, the five blades rearranging themselves, as the wings transformed into giant metal arms with razor-shard claws that slashed at Lucky's Synchro monster, tearing it into pieces, which were engulfed by black demonic energy and exploded, knocking the duelist back.
『Lucky LP: 4000 – 1000 → 3000』
"I must admit – this was quite unexpected." Lucky muttered. "New monster or not; that ain't going to be enough to defeat me."
"Why do bad guys always say that?" I asked, before clicking my fingers. Vigorous Phantomus took the sight and reverted his claws back into wings, then flew over me and projected a green beam from the eye-like orbs on its wings, opening a green portal. "But since Phantomus alone won't be enough, let me demonstrate to you Phantomus' special ability! Once per turn, I can Special Summon a Level Three or lower Pendulum Monster directly from my deck! Come forth, ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Beary (Lv. 1, ATK: 400 + 500 →900)!"
A 7 years old girl with short brown hair and yellow eyes ran out of the portal, wearing a pair of large metal fists as weapons. She stopped on my field and pouted before sitting down.
"I'll set a card and end my turn!" I exclaimed as Phantomus landed back onto my field. "You know that if you're fighting because you want to return back to your world, you're fighting on the wrong side, right?"
"Sorry, but I'm not like you or Levant, there's nothing for me to go back to, except for a dozen mafia bosses wanting to see my head on a stick." Lucky replied.
"I feel like there's a story behind this, right?" I mean, having several different mafia groups on your tracks… Big oof.
"Not exactly," Lucky shrugged, almost like he wasn't carrying at all. Maybe he wasn't, seen how he was here, and they were back at his original world. "But if you're as good with the dice as me, it's natural to get a few people angry. Especially when you don't know where not to stick your nose. I don't really care what world I live in, I'm a survivor. All I need to worry about is being on the winning side."
"You say that, but I can't help but notice that for someone who wants to be on the winning side, you're standing across from me." I pointed out.
"What can I say? Egomaniacs don't stay on the top for long," I glared at him for those words. "It's my turn!"
『Turn 5 [Lucky] LP: 3000, Hand: 1』
"Will you look at that?! I activate Roll of Fate! I roll a dice, and get to draw a number of cards equal to the result, then sent the same number of cards from the deck to the Graveyard!" Oh yeah, should have expected Joey's cheat card to be in that deck.
Roll of Fate (Spell) Normal
Roll a six-sided die. Draw cards equal to the result, then send an equal number of cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard.
A holographic screen appeared in front of Lucky showing a dice rolling before it started to slow down until it finally…
"It's a four," Lucky shrugged not surprised by the result. He drew four cards, then sent another four to his Graveyard, before continuing with his turn. "The hand I got is good enough for me. I activate Summon Dice! By paying a thousand Life Points, I get to roll dice! And then, if the result is a three or four, a monster from my Graveyard gets revived!"
『Lucky LP: 3000 – 1000 → 2000』
A dark aura surrounded Lucky, reducing his Life Points, as the holographic dice rolled again, and this time the result was…
"Three!" Lucky exclaimed while I groaned. "That means that my old buddy's finally coming back! Show yourself once more, Light of Fortune – Aries (Lv. 8, ATK: 2800)! And now, let's battle! Aries, destroy Wild Tamer Beary!"
He fell for it!
As Lucky's Synchro Monster charged the trembling little girl, I pressed a button on my Duel Disk, activating her effect in response to the attack.
"I activate Wild Tamer Beary's effect! When you attack her, I can bring out a Chrono monster from my hand and make it the new attack target!" I quickly grabbed the last card in my hand and played it. "I Special Summon ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Raven (Lv. 5, DEF: 2100)!"
A tall young woman with waist-long black hair that covered the left side of her face appeared on my field. She had yellow eyes (at least the right one was yellow, the left was covered by her hair). She wore an all-black leather outfit that consisted of high boots, pants with small chains hanging out of them, and a sleeveless black vest. She had black tattoos that started from her neck and moved down to her arms, which had long black feathers coming out of the back of them.
"And when a monster is Special Summoned by Beary's effect, your attacking monster loses attack points, equal to those of the new arrival!" Raven flew in front of Beary and nodded to her before firing a blast of dark energy, which hit Lucky's Synchro Monster.
Light of Fortune – Aries, ATK: 2800 - 1400 → 1400
"Tricky bastard," Lucky growled. "I activate Second Chance! My Aries cannot be targeted by your cards or effects for the rest of this turn, and I get to flip a coin. If it lands on heads, my monster cannot be destroyed by this battle! But if it lands on Tail, all damage that I would have taken from the battle is added to my Life Points instead!"
Second Chance (Spell) Quick-Play
Target 1 Level 5 or higher monster you control; that monster cannot be targeted by your opponent's cards or effects for the rest of this turn, also flip a coin and apply the following effect based on the result:
Head: The targeted monster cannot be destroyed by battle for the rest of this turn.
Tail: All damage that you would take from battles involving the targeted monster increases your LP by that amount instead.
At the end of the Battle Phase, if the targeted monster is still on your side of the field: Draw 1 card.
"Your luck-based cards are even more situational than Joey's!" It was going to be almost embarrassing to lose to this punk.
"What can I say, it's what I managed to get my hands on for this duel." Lucky shrugged. "It's not like I've got gods behind my back, giving me free cards. But more importantly, for the coin flip. Go!" A golden coin appeared in front of Lucky, one side showing a shield while the other showed a cross. The coin flung into the air and landed between the two of us, stopping with the cross on top.
"Sweet! It's tail!" Since the monster he was attacking was in Defense Position, the head effect was going to be useless, how lucky indeed. Aries slammed its head into Raven, but my monster jumped over the Synchro and threw several black feathers which pierced its back and exploded, knocking the Synchro down.
『Lucky LP: 2000 + 700 → 2700』
"But more importantly, since an effect involving coin tossing just resolved, Aries's own effect activates, flipping another coin!" Lucky's Synchro Monster got back onto its feet and looked at me before projecting a coin, which showed Heads. "If the result is Head, you take damage equal to half of Aries' attack points!"
The Synchro fired another beam from its eyes, but this time the white cloak around me suddenly moved, forming a tendril that blocked the incoming blast before retracing back.
『Evan LP: 1400 - 700 → 700』
"Ok, that was… New." I muttered, and the Nightshroud mask that was on my cloak moved to look at me.
"That was me," I heard Yuksel's voice coming from the mask. "This white cloak seems to be able to act as a secondary body for me!"
"That's handy." Now he would no longer have to possess my body when he can form his own.
"Having your clothes take the physical damage instead isn't going to help you if your Life Points still go down!" Lucky exclaimed. "At the end of this Battle Phase, I'll activate the other effect of Second Chance! I draw a card." Lucky's expression grew into a grin as he saw the card that he got. "I activate Dicephoon! As its name suggests, I throw a dice, and based on the result, there are three possible effects!"
Another dice rolled on the field, stopping on the number 5. It meant that the card's second effect was going to activate now, destroying two of my Spell or Trap Cards. That meant…
"I use Dicephoon's effect to destroy your Pendulum Scales!" A powerful wind blew out of Lucky's card, destroying both of my ChronoDevils. Just like I expected, he was trying to make sure that I wouldn't be able to summon Chrono Phantomus again.
"Because Timefrozer Ghost left the field, its Pendulum Effect no longer applies," I stated, as my monsters' attack points dropped down to 2800, 1400, and 400 respectively.
"I'll set two cards, and with that, I'm going to end my turn." It was my turn again.
『Turn 6 [Evan] LP: 700, Hand: 1』
'Timeline Fusion.' I thought as I looked at the card that I had just drawn. If only I could Fusion Summon Berserk Phantomus' its second effect would have gotten rid of Lucky's face-downs, and the third was going to let me Special Summon Chrono Phantomus, but that wasn't an opinion now. I was going to have to rely on Vigorous Phantomus.
"I activate Vigorous Phantomus' effect! Once per turn, I can Special Summon a Level Three or lower DARK Pendulum Monster from my deck! I choose ChronoDevil Chthonian Champion (Lv. 3, ATK: 1200)!" The humanoid demon in dark armor with bandages wrapped around its arms and face appeared on my field with a curved sword in its left hand.
"I activate my Continuous Trap – Destructive Immunity! I target one Synchro Monster on my field and double its attack points, along with giving it immunity to the effects of all cards you control! The risk? During each of my End Phases, I roll a dice and if I get anything other than a six, my monster gets destroyed!"
Light of Fortune – Aries, ATK: 1400*2 → 2800
Destructive Immunity (Trap) Continuous
If your opponent Special Summons a monster(s), you can target 1 Synchro Monster you control. Double that monster's ATK, and if you do, it's unaffected by all of your opponent's cards and effects while this card remains face-up on the field. During each of your End Phases roll six-sided dice, then if the result is anything other than 6 destroy this card and that target.
"If you're going to play it that way, I'm going to activate the effect of ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Raven! I return both her and Destructive Immunity to our hands!" My monster flew over to Lucky's side of the field and grabbed his Trap Card, raising it off the ground as both returned to card forms and returned to our hands. "Now my Phantomus' effect can affect your Aries!"
"And?" Lucky smirked. "Their attack points are equal! If you attack, both of our Synchro Monsters will go down!"
"I've got something else in mind!" I exclaimed. "I activate Phantomus' effect! Once per turn, I can choose two monsters and switch their effects! I pick Phantomus and your Aries!" Phantomus spread its wings and fired a powerful green beam, which hit Aries and pulled its soul out of its body. The beast's soul flew into Phantomus' body and a moment later Phantomus' body flew out and into Aries' body.
"Wait, what are you doing?" Lucky asked.
"Battle!" I cried out. "ChronoDevil Chthonian Champion attack Light of Fortune – Aries!"
As my monster charged the Synchro, Lucky seemed to realize what I was planning to do. Since Chthonian Champion's attack points were lower than Aries with more than 1000 points difference, I can destroy his Synchro Monster without a damage calculation!
"I'm not going to let you do this!" Lucky shouted. "I activate Game Nullified! You get to toss a coin and if the result is Tails, the effects of all your cards will be negated!"
"Since you're in the middle of an attack, if Chthonian's effect gets negated now, you will take sixteen hundred points of damage and loss," Yuksel told me. "But if you manage to get a Head then…"
Question was, did I want to leave this duel on chance? I looked at the cards in my hand again, then at the cards on my field. Should I put all of my faith in my luck, believe in myself, or try to look for another path? The answer to this question was obvious.
"I chain Timeline Fusion!" I won't leave things to chance! "Using the ChronoDevil Chthonian Champion on my field and the ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Raven in my hand, I'm going to Fusion Summon!"
A large gear appeared in front of me with a red and purple portal inside of it. The spirit of Raven appeared on my right and jumped into the portal, with Chthonian Champion following behind her. As both monsters disappeared, I clapped my hands together and began to chant
"Champion of a thousand battles! Cross your future with the tamer of wild darkness to become the fabled demon holding the gift of death! Lead me toward immortality! Fusion Summon! Level Eight, ChronoDevil Grey Reaper (Lv. 8, ATK: 1700)!"
Grey Reaper flew out of the portal and swung its scythe, hitting the ground with it. The Fusion turned back and looked at me with its empty black eyes.
"Acquired more power, have we?" I heard its whispering voice. "Glad to see that you still rely on those who have brought you this strength."
I nodded and turned back to Lucky. "Already knowing the result, I'm going to toss your coin, and call it Tails!" The coin appeared on the field and flung into the air, landing, to no one's surprise, on tails, negating all of my monsters' effects. "And now, I activate Timeline Overlap! By releasing Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer, ChronoDevil Grey Reaper shall inherit half of its attack power along with the ability to attack twice!"
Phantomus bowed his head and his body started to fade, turning into a greenish-white mist that flew around Grey Reaper and was absorbed into its scythe, which began glowing in an ominous green color.
ChronoDevil Grey Reaper, ATK: 1700 + 1400 → 3100
"And because Phantomus left the field, its effect is no longer negated!" I pointed out, taking the card into my hand. "I activate Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer's effect! Since it was removed from the field by a card's effect, I can place it in my Pendulum Zone!"
A large red column appeared behind me, with my new Phantomus floating inside of it, his large metal claws, wrapped closely around his body as he looked over the field, with the number 0 glowing below his feet.
"Now let's battle!" I exclaimed and pointed at Lucky's monster. "Grey Reaper, tear this beast in half!" My Fusion Monster jumped up and brought its scythe down, severing Aries's head from its body with a single clean swing.
『Lucky LP: 2700 - 300 → 2400』
"Damn it," Lucky cursed, taking a step back.
"Now for Grey Reaper's second attack!" My monster's eyes flashed green and it leaped toward Lucky, without me even having to give it the command.
"Tch, so that's how it's going to be, huh?" Lucky narrowed his eyes. "I activate my Trap, Vengeful Rebirth! If a monster I control was destroyed by battle this turn, and the opponent is declaring a direct attack, I can revive one of my destroy monsters! Come back, Light of Fortune – Aries (Lv. 8, DEF: 1400)!"
Lucky's Synchro Monster jumped out of the Trap Card and landed in front of its user with its head bowed down, and a blue aura surrounding its body. So he put it in Defense Position to avoid taking any more damage.
Vengeful Rebirth (Trap) Normal
If your opponent declares a direct attack: You can target 1 monster in your Graveyard that has been destroyed by battle and sent there this turn; Special Summon that target, then, if the monster you Special Summoned by this effect has a higher level than the attacking monster, destroy the opponent's attacking monster.
"That's the trap card that stopped you from using Timeline Overlap last turn," Nightshroud told me. "Had you used Timeline Overlap, you would have been in a worse position."
"You have no idea." Lucky commented. "Due to Vengeful Rebirth's effect, if your attacking monster's level is lower than my monster's, yours would get destroyed."
"And Chrono Phantomus is a Level Six, compared to your Level Eight," Phantomus had saved me from losing this duel. "But Grey Reaper's Level is Eight, so it won't be destroyed! Go, finish his Synchro Monster once and for all!"
"You won't be able to cheat death twice." Grey Reaper growled before disappearing from view. After a second, it reappeared behind Light of Fortune – Aries and the Synchro Monster fell apart, cut into a dozen pieces by Grey Reaper's scythe.
"In the end, it appears that you were the one that lost." I narrowed my eyes.
"I'm still not out of Life Points," Lucky pointed out.
"You will be soon. I activate Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer's pendulum effect! Brave Mirage!" Phantomus' large claws turned into their wings form and the green eyes in the center started glowing, projecting the hologram of a blank card next to me. "Once per turn, during either player's turn, Phantomus can copy the effect of a Spell Card which has been activated earlier this turn as its own! I choose Timeline Overlap!"
Lucky's eyes shot wide as the blank card next to me slowly began to gain form, transforming into a replica of my Quick-Play Spell. Grey Reaper looked at ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Beary and nodded silently before handing its scythe over to the little girl, who lost balance for a second under the massive weapon's weight. Grey Reaper then looked ahead as its body faded away, his essence absorbed inside the scythe that Beary held with a determined expression on her face.
ChronoDevil Wild Tamer Beary, ATK: 400 + 1550 → 1950
"Now end it! Beary Double Beary Attack!" The Level 1 monster ran forward and swung her scythe, hitting Lucky, and then wrapped the scythe's curved blade around his waist and swung it, throwing him into the air.
『Lucky LP: 2400 - 1950 → 550 – 1950 → 0』
『Winner: Evan』
The moment Lucky's Life Points dropped to zero, everything around us started to fade away, like it was being torn away, leaving only empty white space behind. I looked at my Duel Monster, which also disappeared, followed by Lucky. Then, I felt myself becoming weightless.

A/N: First, I want to apologize for taking around 2 months to finish this. I couldn't concentrate on writing this throughout the entirety of April, often forgetting card effects and card interactions, resulting in a mess, so I decided to leave it until I can focus and fix what I've fucked up. Of course, there might be some errors in the duels that I haven't noticed, so if you find any be sure to let me know!
I was also planning to originally add the conversation after the conclusions of the duels to this chapter, so it wouldn't be just two duels without any conversations, but I really couldn't motivate myself to do it, so it ended up being left for the next chapter. Anyways, the new versions of Evan and Avice's ace monsters have finally appeared after over 40 chapters for Evan and around 30 for Avice, lol. So let me say some things about them.
First about Sola Ravager the Fusion Seraph. You must all be aware by now that despite Avice being a primary Fusion user, her gimmick is using Transformation Summon instead of normal Fusion Summoning. And originally, I was planning to go with a Transformation Summon, but I gave that up because the Sola and Phantomus are supposed to be tied more with the summoning method they are named after that the archetypes the Greysons are using them into.
Another reason is that Transformation Summong doesn't count as a proper summon, so Pendulum Transformation Monsters would be hard to describe even though I've already given the Transformation-related cards that Avice use the clause that the monster is treated as having been properly summoned.
And of course, the biggest problem, allowing the creation of a 3100 ATK through the simple Tribute of a Level 6 Pendulum Monster seems kinda unfair to me. Especially since said 3100 ATK monster's effect is Called by The Grave on steroids.
And as for Vigorous Phantomus the Synchro Slayer? I'll just say that he's probably going to be among the least used versions of Phantomus. Though I had come up with the card a few years ago, my initial plans were to have it replace Berserk Phantomus the Fusion Slayer as Evan's main Phantomus power-up, which was fitting since Evan is a primary Synchro user, but what I didn't take into account back then was the ChronoDevil deck - which loves the Battle Phase and going fast. The playstyle I wanted for Evan's deck was what made Berserk Phantomus' aggressive array of effects far more appealing than Vigorous Phantomus' more support-based effects. Also, duels with Berserk Phantomus are more fun to write.
Thanks to Vasto Mugetsu and roxtarsgalaxy for following and favoriting this story!
Now to the reviews!
Benny Farr: I understand where you're coming from, chief!
Findarato: About Blood Rose Dragon first, my guess is that it banishes everything that it can banish. Meaning that if there's something that can't be banished or is preventing her from banishing such as Imperial Iron Wall the second part of her effect, aka field wipe would still be able to resolve even if 0 cards were banished.
As for Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V: The Fifth Factor, I've seen it. I have a bit of a personal bias against huge unaffected by anything 4k ATK boss monsters, which a lot of characters in that story seem to have, but that bias aside, I agree that it's a great story.
BlaiseCandell: About Sealtiel, it's supposed to be a God-like card in this story, which is why it's so OP. Another thing about it is that I want my God-like cards to have superpower-like effects rather than being huge unaffected by anything killing machines. In Sealtiel's case, its superpower is the ability to transfer its soul to other beings.
Thanks for the comments on Stardust Aurora Dragon and Shooting Comet Dragon, but if I may correct you, Stardust Aurora Dragon is closer to Stardust Spark Dragon in terms of being an "alternative" than Arc Rebellion ;)
And that's all! Thanks to everyone for reading this! I hope you all have a great day and I'll see you next time!
Diabolic Tracer out!
