Date: 5-17-2021 (Five Months Later)
Place: Erin's hospital room
Situation: The premature labor and birth of Hazel Brown Kennedy Lindsey Halstead (Erin and Jay's daughter)
Erin (writhing in pain on the bed): OH GOD! This hurts so badly.
Jay (holding Erin): I understand
Erin (to the attending nurse): I am five months pregnant. It is way too early for the baby to be born. Is it possible for my labor to be stopped?
The nurse: It is too late for your labor to be stopped since your bag of water has broken. We must wait now.
Erin (struggling through a contraction): The baby is coming. I can feel it coming. I must push.
Jay (trying to stay calm and strong for Erin): Please breathe, honey. You can't push until the doctor checks you.
Erin (hysterical): The baby will arrive before the doctor can check me
The nurse (running to get the doctor): I am going to get the doctor
Erin (trying to hold in the baby): HURRY UP!
(Five minutes later, the nurse returns with the doctor)
The doctor (checking Erin): You are fully dilated. You can start pushing.
Erin: I am experiencing a lot of pressure.
The doctor (preparing for the delivery): Lets meet this baby
Erin (giving into her pain and sorrow): AHA...AHA...AHA..AHA
The Doctor and Nurse (Counting): 1..2..3..4...5
Erin (still highly emotional and pushing): AHA..AHA...AHA
Jay (squeezing Erin's hand): You are doing an amazing job, honey
Erin: AHA...AHA...AHA...AHA
The doctor: The baby is almost out
Erin (tired but relieved): Finally!
Jay (choked up): Our little angel is almost here
(Erin pushes one more last time and Hazel slips out. Hazel has a chance to bond with her parents before being transferred to the Nicu).
